Well, I've been working on a CBS lately and I'm using FE spritesheets to put together a good battle sprite. I've also decided to use the same spritesheet to make a characterset. So I'll be making front, rear, and side view/walking poses out of a few FE characters. Here is the first attempt. Suggestions and comments would be much appreciated since this is a fairly foreign field for me. The only thing I'm not liking about this sprite is the face. But the eyes can't be changed.
Here it is, Front view only so far.
-
You did what many spriters do wrong. The sprite appears to be looking right at you. For the charsets to look right he needs to be looking slightly down. Examine the RTP sprites and sprites from other games to get it. Eyes are located in the middle of real faces, but eyes on sprites are lower, to make them look 'down'.

Hm.. I did what you said and it worked. I just finished the front walking pose. What do you think? It seems like it would be okay, but when I put it into RMXP, it doesn't walk so good. The graphics are fine, but he moves too far for the amount of space his feet go
-
Wow, I've never seen anyone do an edit of FE like this.... I gotta honestly say, I don't like it, but a bit more practise and you might get somewhere with it. I dunno.
-
I had one that was in progress a few months ago when my comp fried. I'd show you if I still had it, but it was a simple nude char. His walk seems gawky though. Move the foot taking the step further up and the one hes resting on farther back.
-
How's this?
EDIT: The bottom is the old one.
-
Those are pretty cool.
-
It looks pretty good, but the feet look weird. I would suggest editing the feet so that they're straighter. I can't really explain what I'm trying to say, so I've attached an example of it:
-
Back view done! What do you think? It was pretty simple, a lot of copy pasting.
-
I like. Different.
-
Here it is, finished! Just one problem.. I can't get the walking right position. It's very hard because of the cape. Does anyone have suggestions?
-
I think you should do something with the back... anything with the back.
-
Yeah. The back doesn't hang over just one side. It atcually streches across the back I believe, and just stops in front of one leg.
-
What's wrong with the backview? You mean the cape? or the sprite itself.
Well, I've come across another problem, my first impressions of this sprite told me it would fit into RMXP chipsets, well, now I'm not too sure. I've summed him up to a house and I'm no longer so sure. I think the sprite looks great in the wilderness, like the forest. But next to things likes houses it seems off. What do you think? And if so, how can I fix this? I think it might be the doors, but I'm not sure.
-
I donno, everything looks just..Very big actually...
-
You're probally gonna have to shade him in more.
-
I've been studying my sprite in different RMXP environments and I'd like to share an opinion with you guys and I'd like to hear what you think. It seems to me that this sprite is more proportional to the chipset than the RTP. Compare it to barrels, the 2 (possibly 3) story house, the trees are perfect size. Even though he's a little small.
What do you guys think? One more thing, the only thing I think is real unproportionated are doors, so I adjusted them, what do you think now?
-
The sign is massive. But everything looks like it'd be fine. And don't listen to Meis. FE style is meant to have a minimal of shading.
