Title: Custom Character
Post by: oooog on May 17, 2006, 11:46:14 PM
This a character that I drew.  He is based off the main character of the game I am making (Name in progress.)  I would appreictae any advice for improvements.  I did not use a single image, or tutorial, in order to make this character (Excluding the custom character set I made.)

(I will color it on paint or photoshop or something later.)

Anyway, opinions?

EDIT:  I know the face is not very good, but I am horrible with drawing faces.

Yeah, I had to de-include the feet, if you will, in order for the picture to look good in my plan.

Thank you for the compliment.  Perhaps we can become a team ;)

It's nice. He reminds me of a mix between Cid/Cloud/Squall.

Hmm...I think proportion needs some work. And you could give the clothes a little bit more of reality, adding some...foldings? What are they called in english? Anyway, keep it up! Practicing is the best way, even though I donīt do it in a long time now...

His face is like an egg. I want to eat it.

----> and heads

This was my first actual attempt at drawing something without looking at anything, or using a tutorial.

Whoa, work on hair. It looks like it sits on top like a bad rug XD And remember the clothes don't just fold in random places. Overall though, pretty cool.

Hm; seems like you slightly fixed your egghead problem in this version.

Alas, he still has no feet.

Alas he never will.  I'm using a custom text box, and the feet aren't included.  In fact, most of the legs and torso wont be seen most of the time.  Mainly because including everything would make it look bad, and I can't draw feet very well ;).

that looks way better in color. Add some anime cell shading into it and you're good to go =)

It's for a game? I was wondering why you used pencil.

Tis was mainly to get my thoughts together.  I prefer to be organized, so if I screw up somewhere, I can trace it back to where I messed up.  And, I can't draw very well on the computer.  Therefore, I draw by hand, and then color on the computer if needed.  Anyway, here is the character he is based off of:

He shall undergo a few more edits until I am truly happy with the results.

The only prob I see is the charaset has gray hair while the picture has black. And the hair still doesn't looke a part of the character. Other than that, I like it.

XD No, no. I meant I wondered why you outlined with the pencil tool XD

But yeah, his hair doesn't match the characters hair.

Okay's...I'm happy with the results finally. I believe I fixed the hair, shaded him much better, and well...overall better.

If you want to edit a little bit, feel free. Other than that, all comments accepted.

Piece of advice: the lines canīt be too messed up and altogether, cause itīll make the picture "unidentifiable". Like, his arm: there are some unecessary lines in it that you could erase and make the drawing smoother.

Yeah, like look at the top right of his left arm. Lots of random folds.

I see, I didn't notice that before.  I suppose I've been focusing too much on the hair.  Well, I'll get right on fixing that.

Dude, donīt take me wrong, Iīm not trying to be overcritical...anyway: The folds canīt be too...regular. They form themselves spontaneously (sp?), so they have to be random. Being a jeans, they shouldnīt even be many, cause the tissue is less flexible. If it is like Son Gokou's pants, then there are more folds...

EDIT: I just looked at it again...the jacket looks pretty cool. and the pose was well done too.
