Title: Got a Theme Park?
Post by: aboutasoandthis on June 02, 2006, 11:24:37 PM
It's summer vacation for most of us. Do you have a local theme park or a favorite?

I'm from the Lou so I go to Six Flags St. Louis almost every weekend. Since the waterpark's now open, it only takes 2 hours to do all the good rides. Our roller coasters are pretty wimpy though. My favorite Mr. Freeze only goes 71 miles an hour. It's still fun if you got your friends there.

My favorite park is Universal Studios in Orlando. Both the Islands and the Original Park. Favorite rides are the Spiderman and the Mummy. Special Effect rollercoasters are my favorites.

Favorite rollercoaster is the Goliath at Six Flags in Texas. I wish my park had one.

I want to go to Cedar Point. The rides are bigger.

Got a favorite or a local park? Speak.

Dorney Park. One reason... it's the only park I've ever been to.

Plus, the arcade is easy. I spend only 5$ on skeeball to win 50$ worth of stuffed animals, which I sell at yard sales at twice the price... and it works!!

My fav by far is Six Flags Over Texas. Titan = awesome.

USED to have Six Flags: Astroworld, but some dumb-fucks tore it down for some reason...

Ah, a topic about roller coasters! Excellent! It's in my name. ;)

Funny, I just went there on a band trip! Except it wasn't really local because I had to travel across all of Pennsylvania. Yeah, the roller coasters there are amazing. Too bad I didn't get on Dragster. I did, however, get on Millenium Force. Great ride. I got on a lot of other good ones too. Might be my new favorite park.

Before that and favorite local park, Six Flags Great Adventure, which has been the home to the tallest and fastest roller coaster in the world for about a year now.  ::) Though I still haven't gotten on it... I'd have to say though my favorite roller coaster remains Nitro at Great Adventure. It really combined all the elements I think a good roller coaster needs (well, unless you include loops, but it wasn't a looping coaster so how can that apply?).

And btw about that one Mr. Freeze you mentioned, 71 M.P.H. really isn't that wimpy ya know.

Oh, yeah and Universal and Islands are great parks. Since my parents have a house down there, we have annual passes to that. I also have one to Busch Gardens Tampa and the waterpark, which is a great park too. SheiKra is a great roller coaster. My favorite Islands ride is probably still the Hulk though over Spiderman and Universal's The Mummy, but those are both cool too. Lol, after going so much I'm kinda tired of going on those over and over again, so Cedar Point was a real treat.

I live near Kings Island in Cincinnati, and that's a pretty sweet park.  The Beast is the best...

I'm not really a ride person. I have a phobia for heights (even though it isn't as bad as it was) and I don't like super speeds. However I still go to theme parks. My favs (and the only ones I've been too) are all in Queensland: Warner Bros World, Seaworld, Dreamworld and Wet n' Wild. I like Wet n' Wild the best.

My family, out of these parks, enjoy the Tower of Terror the best (Dreamworld). U are fired (from 0 to 100 mph in 7 seconds) along this track that goes 380 feet (38 stories) into the air  (on a track). It then stops and then u go backwards at the same speed until u get where u started at.... personally I'd never go on it.

I´ve been there. When I went to the US I went to: Sea World, Disney Land, Universal Studios, Bush Garden and  Epcot (sp?) Center...All of them were cool. And Orlando streets are so clean.

I missed this part.

You would love the place. I live about 2.5 hour's worth of a drive away from it, and it was totally worth getting up early and waiting in line for.

And... if you're a tall person, have back or neckproblems, or are grossly overweight, DON'T ride the Corkscrew. God damn that ride..... 35 seconds of pure pain I tells ya.

No, I'm not over weight. I'm actually rather skinner.

Disneyland. My brother works there, so he gets free tickets once in a while, and he lets me go with him sometimes. :)

Yeah, I live about an hour away. In fact some of my friends were there today... it's like, "bring a friend free" day for gold pass members.

I havent been there in a long time, but when I did I remember I really liked the Face Off, and the Vortex, and that one snaked themed ride where you stand up. The Drop Zone was a freakin let down...  I thought it'd be cooler.

I'm jealous cause I really wanna go to Cedar Point. I LOVE BIG RIDES. THE FASTER AND TALLER THE BETTER. I need a ride and I haven't got my license yet. (I should get it by the end of the year.)

It isn't that it's wimpy. It just gets old when you ride it at least twice a visit.

I admit I'm 6' tall and I'm a little chubby (I still have more muscle weight though) I have no problems getting on coasters. I even fit in the seats better than most people with the lap bar down lower.

I'm sorry but I really have to talk about my trip to Universal. My family got a 5-day pass there and we did everything in both parks in 1 day. A lot of people there kept giving away those speed line passes, so with that and the single rider lines, I did everything (even the shows). I remember leaving the park at midnight, only to go to Citywalk to see a movie. I HAD A BLAST.

I started this topic cause I'm going to Six Flags St. Louis again tomorrow. Don't you love season passes? Time to hit the waterslides!

Good night.

NO! I mean... the turn up-side-down turns you take and the speed it goes at causes problems for heavy and tall people. I was like 5"10 when I last rode it, and it hurt my neck like hell.

2 choices for me:

A 45 minute drive towards the finger lakes, where the cheap, but effective Seabreeze park resides.

What they've got: Jackrabbit, Some spinny thing, Screamin' eagle, some rides you get wet on, something else.

I've rode Jackrabbit too many times to think it's very fun. I haven't gone on Screaming eagle, though. It's this huge, inverting, swinging ship. Blah.

OR

A 1 or more hour drive to buffalo where Six Flags: Darien lake is, which is mighty.

They've got: Superman, Boomerang, Some go-karts, some waterslides, a lot of games, DDR! YAY!

This is where I conquered my fear of turning upside down; on the ride Boomerang. It's just a non-looping track that you are brought up on one side, go through a ton of twists n' stuff, then go to the top, pause, then go back down through the whole thing all over again.

And then there's superman; that thing is insane. At the top of the first drop, my eyes were watering with fear and regret, as my head filled with the thought of "Oh. My. Gods." The first drop is seriously intimidating.

Reminds me of the Backlash. You go forward, and it slams your head everywhere, then you do the track backwards. My god, your neck hurts like hell.

The closest theme park here is Kenny Wood near Pittsburgh.

The rollercoasters they have are the Racers, JackRabbit, Exterminator, Phantom's Revenge <--[FREAKIN AWESOME!!!! Max speed of 85mph], and ThunderBolt<--[Has a vertical drop right at the end of the station].

They have the Pitt Fall and Pittsburgh Plunge, still fun stuff.

I went there last week. :D

I believe you mean Disney World. :p Busch Gardens Tampa is a pretty cool place. You go on Montu or Gwazi or Kumba? They're all good. I'm assuming SheiKra wasn't around yet when you were there.

Funny, that was the first one I went on. It didn't hurt me, but it wasn't very exciting. But even worse than that, DON'T go on Iron Dragon. I held my photo from Millenium Force on that ride, and I waited in a bit of a line for it. 'Twas an extremely crappy ride. Mean Streak and Gemini were both really good wooden ones, seeing as woodens are usually bumpy as hell, but these were nice and smooth. I wanted to get on Mantis/Raptor, but there's just too much to do in that park... it was like being in heaven... Oh yeah, Magnum is awesome too. It's much like Steel Force in Dorney Park (well they are under the same owner you know).

Bush Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia is a tight park, the best ride was the big bad wolf
and then Paramount's Great America in Santa Clara, CA is another good park, the best rides where top gun and drop zone
-The quickest park to get to is sixflags (medussa)and then great america

Tivoli in Copenhagen, Denmark. kinda the only themepark around were I live (still 60 km away). But it rocks and unlike most other parks it's right in the middle of the city so you can go shopping on 'Strøget' afterwards (main street in Copenhagen). The Demon is my favorite rollercoaster, you kinda get a near-death experience when you're riding it.

Ive never been to sixflags and I am going soon and I wanted to know if the seats like

and
(http://www.pcwjunkies.com/images/parks/sfwoa/bkf_kev_john_brock_0600.jpg )

would fit some one around 190-210. I dont have a big stomach but kinda big thighs/butt. Just wondering. My bigger friend has been in seats like that fine.

I started the topic so I might as well respond.

Trust me. You'll fit. I have a big butt too, and let me say you'll fit better in the seats than most people. I'm guessing to be too big would be 250 with a beer gut and 270 without one. I've seen it happen. My dad is sounds about your size, he has trouble getting in the lapbar coasters (non-looping, wooden) cause he has long legs. If you're over 6ft tall, I'd say be careful.

For some reason I don't like theme parks, but I've never been to one. I also don't wanna go to one.
Title: Why Not?
Post by: aboutasoandthis on June 09, 2006, 01:43:09 AM
A theme park can go from a place with a lot of rollercoasters, to a place with a lot of shows, to a zoo, to a waterpark, to a penny arcade. Did you just not find your type or something?
