Title: Coolest Battle Systems
Post by: DragonBlaze on June 06, 2006, 01:49:28 AM
What games do you think have the best battle systems?

I was just bought Drakengard 2 the other day, and it has to have one of the coolest battles systems ever. Its very fast paced, there are hundreds of enemies on the field at a time, theres a wide variety of attacks, dodges, and blocks. And you can't just hack away at the enemies, you have to stratagise, time blocks and dodges. I was very impressed by it.

Star Ocean: Till the end of time haad a very cool battle system as well. It was my favorite actual rpg battle system, it was more realistic than the ordinary turn based rpg battle systems because you had full control over the movement of your characters, and they didn't just stand in a line to fight the enemies.

Then as for an actul full fledged rpg battle system, I'd have to go with Legend of Dragoon because when you attacked, you could press a certain combonation of buttons at the right times to preform more powerful attacks, and sometimes you had to switch what button you pushed on the fly in order to stop an enemies counter attack. It involved the player more than a normal  battle system did where you simply selected the moves.

ROFL, have you beaten Drak2?

Star Ocean 2 has a pretty awesome battle system.  I like it a bit better than SO3's for some reason.

FF9.

What I liked about it was that each character had there own skills unlike the last 2 FF but also so had a limit break.

Iīd say Tales of symphonia, I think itīs better than Star Ocean3 exept for the fact that you can only walk against and away from your enemy.

And then there was this cool edit of a common rpg battle system.
The gauge was divided in three parts, the first one was level1 attacks, the second level two and the thrid lever three. And you could buy level 1,2 and 3 skills and some were learned. But the mp was shared between the characters. It was kinda orignal.

Hmm.. I'd say ether Legend of legaia or Xenogears. I loooove both battles systems. I like the fact that you stumble upon attacks.

I never got bored of good ol' turn based to be honest, but I loved the ability to switch characters in FFX, that was a winner.

Man that game had a niiice battle system. I think it's the best active turn table system for many reasons one is. While a monster is running up to attack you if you're faster you can kill him before he attacks you or someone else and if you get hit while casting a spell you'll it'll take you a bit longer to do the attack. FF X-2 was a decent game it was too unorganized for me and the MAIN story was very short, battle system kicked *** though.

Haven't beaten it yet. I hate how the story is cliche with all the districts and crap, but I love the battles, so I keep playing it :)

FFX-2 did have a good battle system, very nice traditional style battle system with some new features. It was probably the only good thing in the game..

FFVII had a decent battle system for its age. I liked the materia concept, pretty original. I always liked FFT style battle systems too.

Hell yeah. Dude, that intro was go-od.

Hm...lemme see...Well, the most original and one of the best, to me, is Valkyrie Profile's battle System. But my fav would be the 6 people with unite and runes from Suikoden. Specially Suikoden 1, that the players and the foes atack all at the same time, and I love the mess!

EDIT: Gotta mention the Rune Unite too...awesome.

I loved Legend of Dragoon for it's battles.  It made each battle actually fun to play.  I hate when I dread the random battles.  Clue to gamemakers, when you have a puzzle which invovles moving around, NO RANDOM BATTLES!*coughMMBNcough*!!!

But yeah, the additions in LoD, though simple, have kept me loving LoD since I got it.
