Title: The Omen 666
Post by: Drace on June 06, 2006, 08:18:39 PM
I've just seen (and I do mean just as in... a half hour ago in the cinema) and I got to say, I'm impressed. Sure, The Omen 666 IS a remake of The Omen and sure, it's not a horror like A Nightmare On Elm Street, Dog Soldiers, Dawn Of The Dead or something a like. But The Omen 666 is a fairly great movie. I enjoyed it very much.

First of all, the overall story of the movie. I've always loved the whole Apocalypse and antichrist story and they do it very well here. They thrown in some priests, some stuff from the bible but overall a lot of dead. Though, you won't see the actual Apocalypse in this movie, you do get to see the start of it. The ending also implies a sequel.

Like I said, The Omen 666 isn't your average horror movie. You already know who the bad guy is so that turns the tables around. Though, the others don't know it. Said this, there are some who do know it and they have a big part in the movie.

Said that, I'm heading to the next point. The scares. Horror movies nowadays deliver almost no scares, going more for the gore or for the fun. Mostly both. But The Omen 666 doesn't include to much gore and... well... let's just say lil' Damien isn't precisly as funny as Freddy Krueger. But what this movie did, was actually INCLUDE scare-scenes in it. Some will come expected, some unexpected. Overall, it is a satanic movie.

In the end, The Omen 666 is perhaps for everyone. Though, it does has a nice story so if that turns you down, don't watch it. The cinema I was in was filled with all kinds of different people (even a bloody cowboy for fucks sake. And what the hell is up with the fact that there were like... 6 (including me) rock/metal fans who love 666 and around 50 chavs or chav-wannabees?)

I give this movie an 8/10. A fine example to show that horror has more than gore, slapstick humor and slashers.

I'm not much for horror films (except Shaun of the Dead, of course), but this sounds pretty cool.  Great review, Drace.

Well Shaun of the Dead does count as horror. Comedy-horror, but horror none the less.

I've never seen this "Shaun of the Dead" thing, but if it can blend the genres of horror and comedy in a seemingly impossible way, I must see it. But I DO doubt that it's possible to do it well...

Impossible?

Gremlins, Eight Legged Freak and Freddy (from NOES 2 and up) count as horror-comedy/comedians. Search wikipedia for 'list of comedy-horror.

Shaun of the Dead is the single greatest export of Britain since Red Giant (and Australia before that).
I guarantee it.

im not say all move,s are no good but
someone has to come up with some
thing new to give you
the s.h.its and make you be a

it over and over in your mind
what if this in like  this in real life

any way we all can not like the omen

It's pretty much like the original, but with a few changes here and there. At least it isn't as bad as the redone version of Psycho.

i don't. i'm more into much better sci-fi and i like comedy more then anything. action totally blows sometimes. the latest action movie i liked was mission impossible 3.  :taunt: The Omen might have some kind sci-fish element, but it doesn't win me over.
