Title: MP3 or Reduced WAV? File Size.
Post by: aboutasoandthis on June 10, 2006, 02:10:03 PM
I want certain songs in my game to have more quality than the midis I'm using. Should I use MP3s or WAVs? I'm already fixing my Sound Effects so the file size doesn't go up. I want my file size to be extremely low. If I want a high quality song, should I reduce a WAV of it too or should I use my MP3 version?

(I don't understand the terminology and technical aspects of this at all. Can you keep it easy to understand?)

If you give a post. Thanks.

I don't know the details, but MP3 files are much more compressed than WAVs. Of course, they're still much bigger than MIDIs, but sometimes, it's better to have the real thing.

There are other music formats that are even more compressed than MP3, but RM2K3 doesn't take them. I believe RMXP can take Ogg Vorbis and WMA, though.

If you're using Rpg Maker XP, there's scripts out there that allow you to play many other formats

You could use .mod, .xm, .it & .s3m for example, which are almost mp3-quality (if well done) and a -lot- smaller.

what you do is, you download a converter, im using "audio conversion wizard" and i got the program and crack off of limewire, what you do is open the mp3, and convert it to mp3, but you can change the kb/s it plays at, change it to something around 60, the quality will slightly altar, but the file will be a smaller size
