Title: Inspiration
Post by: drenrin2120 on June 22, 2006, 04:05:29 AM
I draw a lot of my gaming inspiration from BoF3 and FF7. I love the events of FF7 and the story of BoF3, plus the graphics, battles, and music. :D So what game/games inspire your RMing style?

I personally will plot battles to fit in with whatever song I'm listenin to I think would fit it. My overall progression came from a game I forgot the name of XD It was "You get a brief explanation of the plot, then kind of do other stuff during the game til about halfway through, then you start to get good plot progression until the end".

This is actually a problem for me. A while ago now, I was playing Jak2 and loved it, and my rpg had huge, smokey cities like Haven city. But then LO! I finished Jak2 and started an rpg, and my game tried to draw inspiration from something completely different, and it imploded!

I have a originality sickness. I try to run away from everything thatīs been done storywise...but itīs almost impossible, unless you wanna do a Broke Back Mountain RPG  _sweat_

As for the systems, I donīt think I can makle things up when it comes to that, so I inspire me in FFs, Star Ocean and BoF's series.

well i love many games, and i have more than one favorite, but insparation is something different ^_^
my overall favorite game ever though is chrono trigger, where things you do in the game effect the outcome of the ending and what you can and can't get.
the american FF3, so much to do, so much fun, toilets and an opera house!just the amount of everything you can do and get as well as have fun with during adventures or not.

chrono trigger, american FF3, Chrono Cross, star ocean 3, radiata knights, dragon warrior, as well as anime ^_^ however i do my best to be original because i like to make my own stories and such.

DBZ LOG's ABS style intrigued me.  I try modeling my ABS's like that sometimes.

Other than that....I try to do my own thing.

Probably, the most influentual game on my RM design is TES, or BG. Pretty much any American RPG. TES inspires me to try and expand what you can do in the game as much as possible, and BG inspires me to make deep, realistic characters, or at least attempt to.

Well my battle system was inspired by the battle systems in BoF4 and Legend of Dragoon.

My actual story was inspired by a lot of differant things. I have scenes and places from old games of mine that never got completed, its my way of bringing them to life without finishing them. Some of my inspirations come from FF9, but not really any big ones. For example, in my game, there is a city called Dermango which is on an island. The inhabitants sealed the place off from the rest of the world by creating a large strom around the island and making it a place of eternal nightfall, those ideas kinda came from FF9's Treno and Clera. FF9 also inspired me to make my plot deeper, I saw how complex and well thought out these profesional games were, and though my plot was deep, it wasn't on the same level, so I decided to redesign some things, but in doing this I didn't take any of FF9's plot ideas. Some of my ideas also come from my rpg board. Other than that, most of my story ideas are original as far as I know.

ToP and SoM.

I'm making a game with Time Travel right now, so some CT elements are added too. Really though, I don't rip store shelf games off much.

No...

I like the dialoug in Final Fantasy X, the Camping system from BOF, the invention system of Star Ocean 2 and 3, The Mysterious feeling from Organization XIII from Kingdom Hearts 2, the humerous moments from Paper Mario 1 and 2 and how things arn't fully explained in Final Fantasy 6, 7, 8 and 9, which totallys leaves you speculating.. Is Jenova the true foe of FF7, is Laguna the father of Squall, What exactly is Necron, and where did he come from... Is Gogo really someone in disguise? Things that never will be answered, makes you think about it, and the more you think about it, the more you want to play it again, incase you missed something important in the dialoug....

I have a little something from every Final Fantasy out there (including the new 12). If I had to pick specific games, I'd pick Vagrant Story, FFTactics, Bahamut Lagoon, and FF6.

I know Vagrant Story isn't a FF. I liked how that game had fast-paced combo system that made you feel like **** if you missed your time. If you look at my Link Attack system, it's pretty much the same thing.

I liked how Tactics had a surface story that was revealed to be something else. The story was that a commoner named Delita single-handedly ended the war and became the next king. He sounded like a hero. You learned in the game that he was pretty much an evil bastard since he tried to kill his wife, he faked the death of the king, and he lied his way into the church. I want that demented history in my game. I also like the perverted church in that game.

I played the translated version of BH. I liked it. I'm using how you power up your dragons in my game as the Item Sacrifice system. I'm also making a turn based minigame based on this battle system.

I put 6 because I'm using the AP. After 6, it was pretty much recycled in every game (cause it is good). I think it was in 5 too.

I'm a story person. I don't do games.

Majority of my influences/inspirations come from dreams. Sometimes other sources, but mainly dreams.

Why does everyone keep saying Kingdom hearts has such a great plot? Pacman's plot is better then that!

When I used to RPG Make, I got ideas from either patching different things (movies, books, games) together, or dreams.

My favorite plot is Tetris.

OFF-Topic:  In the NES Tetris, there was a last level that you could only get to when your score reached a certain number. It featured Mario, DK, and Peach.

Here's a suggestion, try and find a walkthrough for Tetris.  :D

Back on-topic:

Mainly music is my influence for my RPGing. In stressful or depressing times, I listen to Static-X. In happy times, I listen to the more wacky songs by System of a Down. If a character is mourning, I listen to Evanescence and Simple Plan. I use a mix cd, it makes it easier.

However, I may also use common depressing thoughts. Not by me, thought, just the stereotypic thought s from Goths.

No, because Sora and Roxas are pussies. Roxas was cool though.

No, because Sora and Roxas are pussies. Roxas was cool though.

I know, but that doesn't change the fact that the plot is very good.
Oh, and roxas is gay.
