Title: PS Emulator
Post by: drenrin2120 on June 24, 2006, 01:02:56 AM
How does the PS Emulator work? Does it work like the SNES Emulator where you download ROMs? Or do you need the actual CD to play?

There are apparently versions of it that plays roms, but non I found work.  I personally just use my TV Tuner Card that allows game systems to be plugged into it, and thus, turns my computer into a TV.

2 ways: you can either download the roms (iso) or play with the CD. Both work good.

thanks dude. I'll look for ISO.

EDIT: Wow, this is confusing. wth is an ISO Image?

Ok, a psx iso is an image of the game. By image i mean a backup. A lot of CD burning programs have the option to create an image of the disk, so you can get this image file, and then with that you can burn it to another disk later, hence, a backup.

A psx emulator is able to read the images made by some programs and emulate it like a rom.

Most commonly these image files are refered to as ISOs. Perhaps you download a file like FF7.iso, but there are two other main image type files that you'll also see around, they are the .bin and .img extensions. All three work with most emulators.

If you want to make an image, you can't just use any old image writing program, the emulators can only read the ones made from certain programs. So if you want to make your own, use clonecd or alcohol 120%, they're both free. Most of the time when I play a game that I own, I write it to an image file, it usually runs faster than if I use my cd drive.

Since isos are very large, you won't find them around like you do with SNES Roms or whatever. Most likely you'll have to go to a torrent site to find the iso you're looking for.

I have a ps2 hooked up to my tv tuner card, but most of the time when I'm playing a ps game, I just use my emulator. You can speed up or slow down the game, plus you can save it whenever and wherever you want.

If you're looking for a good psx emulator, download epsxe.

I hope that helped :)

Lol, and its all thanks to BoF3. I bought that game used, it didn't work, the gameshop wouldn't replace the game or refund my money. Thats when I resorted to my computer, after a long search, I came across the wonderful land of playstation emulation.  :vict:

Emulators are not Illigal at all... You have every rights to the Bios as well, if you own a playstation...

This is not included with the Bios, but they are easy to find with Google.

Best... PSX... Emulator... EVER!

I would get that, but I already have a large amount of HD space taken (random RPGM stuff and games)

Who calls it PSX? Just put PS1 or PS and save a byte!
Title:
Post by: DragonBlaze on June 24, 2006, 03:39:34 AM
I usually only have one or two psx games on my compy at a time, the rest are on backup dvds or cds.

I call it psx because it looks cooler, actually ps is the abriviation for a lot of other things, so psx is less confusing, and saying ps1 is just corny.

If you're looking for bio, don't bother ripping them that's a pain. You can download them just look up SCPH1001.BIN on google, it is illegal to "share" bios.  also this prolly wouldn't be any use to you but it's still a nice program for iso files.

http://www.daemon-tools.cc/dtcc/download.php
this tool is good for pc game iso's and vcd's and it's free.

However, don't getenraged when you try to set epsxe. I just got it a week ago because my brother kept hogging the ps2, and I really wantwed to play the final fantasy IX I got that week to try it out. It takes about five hours to find everything you need to set it up. Why it doesn't just install prepared, I don't know.

If you like using gameshark, you should also get PEC (playstation emulation cheater). It comes prepared with nearly every gameshark code for NEARLY every game. (It's missing Twisted metal 4 :()

5 hours to set up  :o

All you have to do is download the emulator, then go to petes plugin site (on the links page of epsxe), and download the gpu, spu, and cd plugins, find the bios, set the emulator to use the bios and the new plugins...

Ok, maybe it does take a while..

i got a ps2 emu working once, it only played onld ps2 games like DMC and FFX, and it only had a 3rd of the ps2 speed, so it took like hlaf an hour to load the ~DMC intro, but yeh anyway, it should take about 10 mins to set the ps emu up, like EPSXE thats easy to use

No.. If you knew anything about computer programming, you'd know that it was a byte (I won't go into an explanation)
And why get a TV tuner card when you have a tv already? unless you have annoying relatives who don't let you watch tv, it seems like a wasted effort.

Okay, so I've got the BoF3 ISO. It says I have to configure my ePSXe. I go to video to configure and it says select video plugin. I have none, what is a video plugin? And do I have to burn the ISO onto a CD before being able to play it?

Are we really allowed to talk about warez and other illgeal stuff?

Why not? No links are being given.

Emulators are not illigal, just thier bios, and the isos.

Neither were linked.

Hmmmm....

www.pbernert.com/

That is where I got my video plugin, and I have never had a problem with it.

Hmm... Okay, so I got the bios, the plugins, everything so it works. I may just have a bad ISO file, but when I go to select the ISO file to run it, I have to show ALL files. right itsn't saved as a .001 file. Do I have to burn it or something?

EDIT: And apex, thansk for the link. :)

Dude, I seriously don't think the difference would add up to a byte. And in any case, would it really matter? No, it wouldn't.

hmm, try downloading "magicISO" you'll need the full version to make a file that big an ISO so also look for a crack for it, then you add the file into the iso your making, save it and then it should work

Exactly, petes plugins are basically the best out there.

http://www.pbernert.com/index.htm is his site.

Dude, don't bother with magicISO, go with cloneCD, google it, its legal. The trial version makes ISOs that are any size, just after the trial period, you can't use cloneCD to burn ISOs, or I don't know what happens after it expires, but you can always make ISOs, I use it all the time.

I use a TV tuner card so I don't need my TV anymore. I have very little desk space, and theres not enough room for my monitor and tv. Since both my monitor and my TV are 19 inches, its not like I'm loosing any screen size when i watch tv. TV tuner cards are handy if you're like me and don't have enough space, but if you have a computer in your room and a TV already, a tuner card is pretty much worthless. And if you're computer isn't in your room, you might as well watch tv on your familys computer.

Well if you mean the PS2 emulator as in PCSX2, then it is bound to somtime soon be updated. They are saying it will be only 10fps slower than the real PS2, which is an impressive leap. The new release will support more games and for others will be bugfixes.

As for PSX, there is ePSXe or the new emu currently in the works. Either way you can get updates at the romhacking network somtimes for the new PSX emu.

Forget an ISO combining program, just use bittorrent..

That one Ps2 Emulator already owns, I love it! I played that wack
Da Venchi Code game on it. I could not run Kingdom Hearts 2 on it well it could run but ran slow.

This is kinda obvious but if you run a iso file instead of a ps2 cd then the game will run better. but with some games the ingame music runs too fast but that one button in the ps2 emu config fixes that.
