Title: Phantom Forest from FF6
Post by: SOLDIER4rthclass on June 30, 2006, 04:25:37 AM
I've been looking forever for the chipset for the Phantom Forest from Final Fantasy 6.
I love recreating dungeons from my favorite RPG'S. I've looked everywhere but I've never found ANY chipsets for this part of the game. I don't even expect to find the whole chipset but anything would make me eternally grateful. Is there anyone that can help me with this?

Looking at your other post, I can tell this is your first post. Please do not post in the requests forum until you've made a welcome thread in the welcome forum.

It's a mistake many members make, so don't feel bad. just post a welcome thread in teh welcome forum and everything will be dandy.

I don't really know if you can sprite rip the forest. I've been making rips from that game anyway so I can try. I'll get back to you.

Is this good enough?

I dont know who to credit though. I found it in a bunch of chipsets that probably dont exsist on the web anymore.

oh... lol

well, you ever heard of roms? If not, look them up on wikipedia or something. They basically allow you to play cartridge games for cartridge playing consoles on your computer. Such as SNES games. If you format the screen right in the emulator you can take screenshots by using the prt scr button of a perfectly pixelated game (Print Screen, located above Insert, just right of F12). You can paste your screenshot (CTRL + V) in MSPaint or whatever software you have to edit pictures and such. Then you simply edit out what you want, slap it into a template and you're done. Of course, it's not as simple as that. If you rip a chipset, thing such as water can take some time to rip.

wow thanx i'll try that out on some of the games i have for emulators but it still doesnt help me with this because i dont have final fantasy 6 on my computer and i dont know where to look.  even if it is hard its worth it to me i think the phantom forest is the best lookin forest in any rpg in the 90's and i really want to re-create it. i'd love more than anything to see a ff6 remake in 3-d but thats off topic. :)

I use gameshark to help me rip. Usually, there's a cheat to jump to any level, see if there are some for FF6.

Also, it might be easier, when looking for the right frame, to slow down the emulation by lowering the frame rate of the emulator.

not bad dude, buuuut, I guess I shoulda mentioned this earlier. You can press, I think it's the F1-12 buttons, and they will do certain things. For example, let's just say you press F1, *poof* no more sprites! The sprites are now invisible. You can make certain backgrounds and layer effects disappear by doing this, hence, allowing you to rip the entire panorama and not just what you can see.

It's the 1-5 buttons for certain ones. 5 For sprites.

Nice Job!
