Title: Middle-Eastern Stuff
Post by: thebard on July 06, 2006, 02:08:27 AM
I'm making a game with a middle-eastern/arabic theme, and I've been looking desperately for resources I can corrupt.  It's set in modern-day afghanistan, but involves a lot of mythological elements etc. too.

I'm looking particularly for military/arabic resources, lots of guys with turbans,  :frag: gun-weaponsets and chipsets with mud-brick houses, bunkers and -lots- of desert.  I'd appreciate any help you can give me on this, since it's a rather important project for me at this point in time.

Those are awesome... seriously, kudos.  (And thank you) :bend:

I've yet to master the editing of character sprites but I can do vehicles and chipsets pretty well.

Oh, and sorry for not reading the 'Newbs and Requests' thread... I'll pay closer attention to those posts.

And yeah, I'm going to post some of my finished resources (Starting with a humvee sprite) in the vanity section.

Wow, those are great.  I especially like the one with the adobe style walls...  My game is set primarily in contemporary Afghanistan, so it'll be no problem converting those to rubble.

Who do you folks want credited for this stuff, by the way?

Just a stab in the dark... maybe they'd want the names on the chipsets to be credited for the work.

Since I was the one asking, I figured I'd contribute some of my own creations/amalgamations, should anybody out there feel the urge to make an RPG about Terrorists.  I know I'm having a blast with this one.

This first one, based on the above set provided by Lonewolf, merges elements from Madmax's Darkmatter chipsets, (done in '95) and some bits from the standard RTP's to create a functional 'training camp' map.

This next, is my world-map (still in progress) that combines more elements of the Columbine RPG's Modern World set, with Madmax's Darkmatter Chips and more stock RTP bits as well.  By no means comprehensive or complete.  In my game it's the world-map for Afghanistan.  But... any middle-east/steppe region is possible.

A combination of some of the sets provided by Lonewolf, fixes what I think are a few glaring errors and shortcomings in both and merges the best.  Thanks a bunch.  I call it 'Afghani Town.'

This was generated using Charas Charset Maker, but has been heavily modified by myself.  It's the main character 'Husam' from my game, poses included are 'Prison Jumpsuit - Age 40' 'Youth' 'Youth Sleep' 'Youth Sneaking' 'Youth Sheathed Sword' 'Youth Drawn Sword'

Some random troops and a few associated death sprites, done in Charas Charset Maker and heavily modified.

And last but not least... my personal favourite: My hand-drawn Humvee sprite, for use in conjunction with my Afghani Worldmap set.

Thanks all who have contributed, and expect to be fully credited for your help.  Keep the material coming plzkthx!

A couple battlecharsets for my Mujahideen.  These are him as a youth, and there's going to be another set as a 40 year old man.

If you've got any criticism of my style or technique please let me know.  I'm interested in making this stuff as high-quality as possible.

Great resources. I doubt that any one's making a Role-Playing Game Maker Two Thousand/RPGmaker2000/RM2k or Role-Playing Game Maker Two Thousand Three/RPGmaker2003/RM2k3 game about terrorists or Afghanistan, though...I say, people might get offended. People could use desert-like resources and weapon resources for other things, though.

Also, I can't tell what the last weapon in the guns set is. A laser gun?

So, I've reached another roadblock in my development and I was hoping somebody could help me out.  I've designed my main characters and a number of terrorist/soldier charsets but I'm sort of stuck when it comes down to the non-combatant NPCs which I need to populate my world with.

Specifically, I need women, children, shopkeeps, men, musicians, old men smoking hookahs etc. etc.

If you feel like spinning a couple non-combatant arabic/middle-eastern style NPCs, I would certainly appreciate it.
