Hye,I managed to conect my laptop there on the Hotel in Brazil.
I`m at Rio de Janeiro,I just LOVE it.
Well I make this topic to ask everyone to think before they even make a fangame, because i have seen MANY games, that are called"Final fantasy sumting" but they have NOTHING to do with FF,besides,I bet there are almost more fangames that members in this forum.
For the love of the geezes!
Geez -.-.
Post your comments please.
That`s all.
PS: If This is a stupid trhead, let it be,it was just a suggestion ok?.

Don't make a big deal about it. People can choose to name their games what they want.
Typically, a fan game has the same characters or plot of the original game. Now games that just use the name and don't use anything from the actual games arn't exactly fan games... the author just lacks the ability to come up with a more original name.
Now; Naruto fan games. Those are stupid.
-
However, do you all think it would still be considered a fan game if it were based off something other than a game? Like a book?
-
Yes,Because it is s tory not made by you,you use the book`s plot, story and all,no?
-
Yes, it's still considered a fan game.
-
XD, ok, fan games in general suck, but sweetness of game can make up for the inability of some to be creative.
-
Is what I have a fan game?
I consider it one, but I'm using a side of Final Fantasy that hasn't been done before (From what I can see). Honestly, I've never seen an RM2k game set in Ivalice before. I have an original storyline, characters, battle system, world (Even though I'm using some of the names of the cities), so...does that mean I lack originality?
I just like doing an FFFangame cause for me, they're actually the most fun RM2k games for me.
It's an FF Fangame through and through. I've personally made sure to reference it to the real games as much as possible (And not the ****ing stupid ones like naming the monsters the same or using a past character). They are more subtle.
I can't make one? Why Not?
-
You can make what you want. It's just a plus to see new species other then Vera and bangaa that have already been used in a game before.
-
Fangames have got a bad rep because of all the RM newbies who make them, but some fangames can actually be well-done. For example, I had a great idea for a ToP fangame that explained Dhaos' side a bit more (it never came to fruition because of a lack of motivation), and I recently saw a Yugioh fangame that was actually quite intriguing.
Let me put it this way: there's bad original games, too.
-
I will make a fan game. And it will pwn you all. And no one will dare say, "Fan games suck!' Because then they will suck. And no one likes a sucky person.
-
Fan games don't suck. Bad games suck. Like Warxe said, doesn't matter if they're original or not.
-
I dont say fan games are bad,I mean that the original games get out better reputation,en yes, there are good fan games, but sometimes make "Fan games" when there is nothign `bout fangame on it.

Hey, you´re in Brazil! That´s cool man, welcome! And at Rio de Janeiro, lucky you, the roundest asses in the whole world. And the most beautiful girls too.
If you come to São Paulo PM me, I can give you some tips!
On topic: I dunno much about fan games :(
-
As long as it is fun, I don't care.
-
Just like I said, making it a fangame doesn't mean it will suck, it just means that it will (probally) lack originality in many cases where a non-fangame would have it in massive quanities.
-
The plot is what really matters.
So long as the plot is similar to the original game(s), it's fine to me. However, like Braveheart said, those who make a fangame with nothing to do about the series usually is not any good.
It is preferred if an original plot and series is involved. I usually play a few mario fangames, they all have their own plots and don't tie together in some way. That's why I never actually get past the first level on those games.
Kinda off-topic: Then there are those games who hope to get somewhere just by adding a popular character from another series in it as a cameo. I think Kingdom hearts is one big cameo. Yet then again, I haven't played it so my opinion doesn't really matter then.

What if I made a game where the nameless chosen hero went to collect crystals of power to seal away the evil force that wants to destroy the world for no apparent reason, yet all of the characters were original designs? Would that truly be better than a fangame?

I dont think so..really....
