Ok, so I was messing around and came up with this tapping solo riff on my guitar. I want to expand on it and make a full blown solo from it, but uhh..... it sounds really familiar. I dont want to think that I'm ripping it off from anyone. So if you can help me out and tell me if this sounds original or ripped off I'd really appritiate it. Thanks.
-
I liked it, does sound original.
However, when I played it, the people in the office asked me "what the hell is that?" ... Old people...
-
Does sound familiar, but I don't know from where.
-
Sounds like one of those common overused guitar solos from the late 70s to late 80s. Not bad, but way too familiar.
-
Yeah, I think thats it. It sounds similar to other stuff but it isnt quite. Anyways, I love 80s metal.
-
Sounds like something I heard in some classic music part. Sounds really familiar.
-
sounds a lot like Bach's Tocatta and Fugue. Not quite, but a bit.
-
New riff. I was messing around... started off with some little scale thingy then kept ascending... turned out pretty good, in my opinon.

Nice, I like it a lot. :)
-
I call this "80's Riff" cause it sounds 80s. It even has the little triple picking thing in it... yeah...
-
I liked the 80's Style thing. It was pretty spiffy.
-
It's good, but I don't like (I think it's called scratching... anyways, it's the sudden stops in the music with a high pitched noise) scratching parts.

I think your talking about the fret noise. If you are, it's pretty much unavoidable.
I think it kicks *** desi. Sweet job.
-
Thank you...
And about the noise... I know what you mean... it's mostly cause of the addition of my pedal, it makes the strings really sensetive to any little thing you do to it... grah, ususally I tune it out, but now that you brought it up its bothering me... grah......
-
Ok, this one's not original, it's a cover. Fade to Black intro solo. I messed up a little bit... but whatever...
Also, Ill have the extended version of my ascending riff up later... so yeah...
-
Sir Desimo, I must say, that is quite a fine display of soloing you have there. Personally FTB is one of my favourite Metallica songs, and you most certainly did it justice. :D
By the way, what pedal are you using for that one?
-
Thank you.
I am using my digitech death metal pedal... not the best, but its the only one I've got right now...
-
*wishes that could hear it :("

Ok, been awhile. Got a new riff. It's not that great, and I'm not really playing it fast here, but I think it's pretty good for something I made up myself.
-
Hmm, obviously it'd be way better faster, and in context. I can't judge it until then, It just sounds like an average scale.
-
I've been practicing my neoclassical.
-
I liked the last one, the one before sounded just like MT said. Too much like a scale. The last one was good though.
-
Lol now the neo classical one sounded a bit like tocatta and fugue.
Are your strings real thick?
are they old?
Those could increase that fret slide noise alot. Depending on what guitar you use, and how you record it all play roles in it too.
Alot of times it's when I press on the strings to hard then slide off suddenly; like here:

(I know it's off beat at the end)

Get a metal zone.. :S
-
Hey it's Carmen!
Nice thing BTW.
-
Well, Ronnie..
On the Fade to Black intro, you didn't play part of it fast enough.
On the "Classical" thing, it sounded a LOT like "Last Rites"..
The riff that people sounded like a scale was just kind of blah to me..
That's really all I gotta say.
-
Thank you all for your comments. Most of my strings are like, almost 2 years old (some I've had since the day I got my first guitar, I've had to change a few b and e strings here and there, though).
Gunnar, I recorded that Fade to Black thing what seems like forever ago. I know that version sucked, but now the comments I get when I play it is "too fast"... meh... I dont feel like recording it again though.
Anyways. Here's what's new: A video!!! It's a very short solo excerpt from Symphony X's "The Damnation Game". Unfortunatly, the picture quality sucks (well, it isn't horrible, but still...) and I have to record clean because my pedal just died and I don't have any 9V's... uhm... anyways, hope you enjoy, please comment.
PS: WMV file.

I was watching that video earlier..
There's some slight error, but otherwise it's good man.
-
Ok, got a new riff for ya'll. It's part of a song called "Shretdboard" by Fugetta. Its on my myspace videos, for easy access.

Tell me what you think. By the way, quality kinda sucks.
-
Ok, this is a new video this time. It's been awhile, and I've gotten, much, much better. Unfortunately, this video doesn't completely show you every aspect I've improved on. But. Yeah. Check it out. It's the solo to "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. I've tried to replicate Brian May's sound the best I could. Kinda hard with the shitty pedal.
btw, it's on myspace.
