Title: Spam.
Post by: MrMister on August 03, 2006, 12:07:12 AM
I may play ball, but I will never sign this.

Hey, buddy.
BUDDY.
How's it going.
Great I bet.
'hateful and offtopic'. Hmm.. who does that sound like?
Hmm..

I know. EVERYBODY.
You ban me, you just do that. Then ban Drace, Razor, FFL, Trevlac, and everyone else. You're the worst thing to ever happen to Charas. Seriously, was Mid the obvious choice?
Fuck that. I may have made a few bad decisions in Charas past, but you've made millions. I bet Alex is spinning in his grave. And sending me this PM? What are you, the coach from Dazed and Confused? I'm supposed to agree to this? If anyone's hurting Charas, it's you.

I'm not going to take it up the flashpipe.
Thanks for ruining Charas for me.

Bye.

No sympathy whatsoever.

Insulting everyone is awesome until you get singled out and told to shape up? That's so sad! Can you get me a tissue? I'm tearing up here!  :(

He gave us all spam notices. Don't sweat it.

However, I do agree with MrMister about Midnight. I'm sure she didn't get a spam notice like we did.

Oh no, she didn't, not at all. She and the rest of the staff got a few hours of not-fun-at-all Charas Staff chat to put things in order.

What the hell does this have to do with me? I warned you, you decided to ignore it. *shrugs* If you wish to act like a child instead of the grown man you are, so be it. That's your business, but what you around here is everyone's concern.

The beginning paragraph reminded me of Carmen.

On topic, Don't leave MrMister! You are Charas's most unique member! You taught us how to eat like a not-slob! DON'T LEAVE AGGGHHH ARGGHH NOOOOOO..... :bee_wtf:

Edit: Dang, I forgot to take a screenie of my 800th post.

This is more between Sai and MrMister. Isn't much we can do to "assist".
Title:
Post by: SaiKar on August 03, 2006, 12:50:00 AM
I have very little left to say. I've been getting more and more complaints that people think MrMister is taking personal attacks too far. I sent him a respectful, calm private message about it asking him to tone it down: the same one I sent to multiple people. He blows up, curses out a mod that had very little to do with the incident, and vows to leave.

I'm never happy to see anyone leave, but I'm not going to beg him to stay. He has been an exception to the rules for a very long time and it makes people uneasy. If he can't play nice then maybe he shouldn't play at all.

I don't like the way Charas is run, so I'm not going to spend anymore time here.
I don't see how I'm acting like a child, going to Charas isn't an obligation.

....
Is all of this really that big of a deal? I'm not just talking to MrMister, I'm also asking the Mods/Admins.

Seriously, okay, i can kind of understand the disrespectful shit,
(even though if you cant take a joke from the INTERNET, you're a total loser) but spam? Cmon man, are you kidding? Spam is not a big problem on this forum at all. So sending PMs to EVERYONE and their mothers about it? Thats just..ridiculous. This is honestly the least spammed forum I have ever SEEN. This is really being taken too far. I feel like I'm in middle school. And props to MrMister for going out with a bang. We still love ya, baby.

And er...Mid you're a really good member and all but...I do believe there were alot better choices for Mod than you.

Thats my two cents. Don't sweat the technique.
Title:
Post by: SaiKar on August 03, 2006, 01:27:01 AM
I'm sorry that not everyone thinks getting attacked on the internet every day is fun times. And I ask no one to change themselves, but instead to be a little more mindfull of what they say. It's only as big of a deal as you guys want it to be.

On, and Rev, there is quite a bit to a moderator's job than posting on the forum. We have to talk to quite a few people to keep things as calm as they are around here. Mid's been doing an exceptionally good job of it. Like her as a mod or not, the fact is the girl knows how to help run a forum.
Title:
Post by: Tomi on August 03, 2006, 01:28:51 AM
I must say, I agree with the statement made above that MrMister has always been an exception to the rule, and that he has often taken advantage of it, which he shouldn't have.  However, I also agree with something that he and other "spammers" have said.  Midnight has recently also been the exception to the rule, most notably of these, spam.  We all know that Mid has been spamming the same amount as Meiscool or any other people, but has never (or at least that I have heard of) been scolded for it, such as this PM warning sent to the others.  Especially since moderators should be models for the community, I figured that the leadership of the forum would need to stop spamming (I'm not suggesting anything about the rest of the staff) before expecting regular members to do the same.  Lead by example.

Meh, my two cents.
Title:
Post by: Revolution911 on August 03, 2006, 01:30:55 AM
Nobody really wants it to be a big deal because...well it isnt a big deal. "Attacked." I'm sorry but..rofl. It's the internet. I've said it before and I'll say it again, if you can't take a joke on the INTERNET, you're a total loser. Anyway, I'm not trying to start some..revolt or anything, but I feel like I might aswell say what I think.
Title:
Post by: Kijuki_Magazaki on August 03, 2006, 01:41:00 AM
I was going to add my 2 cents to this but since I dont want to give more burden to someone who doesnt need it right now, I'll hold it for some other day.

In the meanwhile, MrMister, I do incist for you to stay, just try to balance out your "games"  with helpful actions.

Even though you are a favorite toa  lot of ppl you are the worst to others, i am sure you can find it in you to withdraw some of the aggression.

Don't go, your time in here, i guarantee is yet not up.

As for Midnight spamming. I kinda disagree. There's a difference in the kind spam she produces and the one mrmr meiscool and even i make. Her um "spam" isnt as harmful as other ppl's spam.

Yes its spam, we all spam dammit. But its gotten to the point were what kind of spam is the worst.
Title:
Post by: SaiKar on August 03, 2006, 01:47:08 AM
If you get your kicks by making feel bad on the INTERNET, you're a bigger loser.

It is my sole responsibilty to see that people are happy on these forums. Did Raffles break any rules? Technically no. But he made a great number of people very upset to the point where they didn't want to come here anymore.

Unfortunately it is very hard to code "don't be a jerk and at least try to respect other people" into a list of rules, so instead we forbid certain offensive actions. Every now and then someone finds something that bothers people that is not against a specific rule. That's what the PMs are about. Not because I hate anyone or think that they are the source of all the problems around here, but simply because some resemblance of order needed to be restored.

Some of the people that received PMs got the hint. That's it for them. They're 100% fine in my books. Apparently MrMister decided that being nice is out of the question. I guess that's it for him as well.

If you actually feel bad after the person said what he/she said, your the BIGGEST loser. ;) This forum in general need to stop being so sensitive. Honestly. And Mid is a fine mod, but its not about that. Its about other people who deserved that spot alot more than she did. Before she became a mod, she wasnt on charas for months. There were alot of dedicated members who DESERVED that title. And she just comes back and all of the sudden "hay guys i r mod lol." Dont misunderstand me, I'm not saying like "Oh I should've been mod." To be honest I'd rather not be one, but alot of members DESERVED that title alot more than she did. I kind of think she's only mod now cause she's friends with you. Look man, this is ridiculous and its been blown out of proportion not by spammers, not by flamers, not by average members or noobs, but by the staff that runs charas.

EDIT: Meiscools post wasnt SPAM. It was a well placed JOKE. A JOKE that I for one LAUGHED AT.
Title:

Then again you can trust friends more than other people huh  and you know them better too and know better if they are up the job:P like persay, if I was very good friends with mrm, and lets pretend I knew him for how he acts here... I wouldnt recommend him as a mod, ever. (no disrespect meant) but tll me of 3 people who deserved the positions and why <.< its an issue about trusting the decisions made rather than hope the worst to happen

I think the mod talk doesnt really fall into here . or maybe i miss something cause of this dumb internet

Title:
Post by: SaiKar on August 03, 2006, 02:03:44 AM
It is becoming more and more apparent that you think wandering around and locking threads is basically the gist of a moderator's duties.

Is Midnight my friend? Yes. Do I realize aponting my friend as a moderator is a controversial move? Of course. But out of all the mods lately, she has helped me the MOST with running this forum. BECAUSE she is my friend. She has no problems coming to me and saying exactly what she sees and what she thinks needs to be done. She doesn't always get her way (much to her bitterness  :p ) but simply having someone to discuss decisions with is invaluable, especially now that Kijuki and Darkfox are gone.

ALL of the current modeators are my friends. ALL OF THEM. For the simple reason that I MAKE SURE I am friends with them. Because I need people I can talk to and trust. People that I know will work with me when crap like this rapidly becomes a big stinking deal as things on the internet are oft to do.

And all these people that so-called "DESERVED" a mod position... who? Where is this mysterious line of people waiting for jobs? I hire new moderators based mostly on who tells me directly that they want a job here. I don't hire them all of course, but it's much easier than wandering around asking people "hey, do you want a job?" People that ask for jobs are much more likely to stick with them over the years. People that were elected by popular election, such as Trevlac or Red, that everyone liked? Not so good I'm afraid.

You can say what you like about how Charas runs. The fact of the matter is that the staff gets along better than it ever has and, barring a few extremely minor incidents like this, this has been the most peaceful summer I can remember. It's not my fault that lots of people have a ton of time on their hands and no huge crisis here to complain about.

My number 1 pick for mod would Probably be DragonBlaze. He's active, very understanding and doesent overreact over small things. Arcanagirl. And last but not least, Drace. All for the same reasons. (Drace is pretty much a less uhm...intense version of MrMr.) And if all mods are your friends, why would it make a difference if you chose someone else(Someone who deserves it, of course).

The posts above are called having FUN. Having fun on a fun FORUM.It wont lead the topic to an entire new discussion. It'll die out in like 3 posts. It wont kill anybody and I'm certain no one is offended.

When given the chance, usually people shape up. You were a respected and cool member when you had modship. Now you're probally the top spammer on the site.

You're living proof that people can change if they want to keep their goal.

If any of them want a job, my private message folder isn't full and I'm on MSN most of the time. I do seriously consider all applications and I do go out of my way to be friendly to all of the staff.

And maybe I wasn't clear... both normal members of the forum and some of the staff have been directly communicating to me that they find spam and personal attacks a problem and have been doing so for several weeks. I'm not making it up because I enjoy this conversation.

The title of mod shouldent be a title you can simply ask for. You should be asked because of the way you present yourself on Charas. And I'll admit sometimes the spam is a little much, but this forum has the least amount of spam I've ever seen. And once again, personal attacks, I can semi-understand.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on August 03, 2006, 02:33:22 AM
Rev, he likes people that ask more then people he requests because if a person asks for a job, he's more probable to do the job and work hard to keep the job. Like, for example, you don't want to be mod, but if you were given it and it's duties, you probally wouldn't be as enthustic about it as someone that wanted the job from the start.
Title:
Post by: SaiKar on August 03, 2006, 02:37:35 AM
Meiscool has the right idea. Over the past couple years I've found that people that ask for their jobs care more and stay on the staff longer. Every now and then there is someone who is clearly doing a lot of work in a particular forum (like Warxe in tutorials a while back) and I ask them first, but that's the minority. The Charas staff is a volunteer organization. No one gets paid and no one is under contract. People that ask to join usually know what they're getting into.

Rev, you said that it's just a joke, that the people who take it seriously are losers. But some people DO take it seriously. Some people DON'T like to be disrespected on the Net, even if it is a 'joke'. For example, MrMr. As has been previously stated, he was an exception to the rules because we knew he wasn't serious. But to some 12-year-old kid who's new to the Net, what do you think he's gonna think if some guy just starts insulting him for no reason? Even if we say it's just nothing, do you really think it's gonna make a difference? What if that kid takes it out on others, or himself (An extreme option, yeah, but it's happened tons of times before).

Whatever label you put over it, it's still a form of bullying. And people don't like being bullied, regardless of the reasons.

The internet effects pride in funny ways.

In real life, if someone calls you a dick, you either don't care, or retaliate. However, on the internet, people can't tell if you don't care, or if you're a pussy. So, to shield their pride, they responce out of fear for what the other person might be thinking.

Being as I didn't get to post this last night since my net died, I'll post it now..

First off, I do not write like an ignorant fool.. so please do get that straight. Secondly, whether or not I was around is not of your concern but if you must know..I WAS AROUND. Almost every freakin day, I never signed on tho because I was annoyed about how childish those same ppl you think should be mods (yourself included) acted.. but I was always in the charas business, making suggestions and so forth. Behind the scenes work you can say.

Thirdly, when there is a need for a new mod..we go down the list of people who are considered close enough towards passing. We give advice, but the choice is Harvey's. Not ours, not mines. Also, I've been friends with Harvey since I started charas, so please if that was true I would've been a mod/gmod when he first became admin. Now, if it's so rediculous as you say.. Why are you still on this topic?

Apparently I'm the only spammer? As I told everyone else, we're all spammers. Yet some spam worse then others. I spam, I have no issues with admitting that but I'm not as bad as Mr. As for Meis, he just thinks it's cool to follow in Mr's footsteps. Also, for your information I 'DO' get scolded.  *shrugs* I'm no different from any other member, which means the rules go by me too.

For anyone else who feels the need to say I suck, go ahead. I don't care. We already know what your opinions do. It makes things like Reain, Trevlac, and Carmen. That's a fact. I truely have no problem pointing that out. But hey, you guys know what's right..right?
Title:
Post by: Weregnome on August 03, 2006, 12:03:08 PM
its sad to see MrMr go, he has always had my respect.

I do feel though, that the personal attacks are the true problem of this forum, rather than the spam and the random flaming. I agree with posts made by quite a few here.

The moderators and admins are doing a good job. They have kept large waves of spam and flaming quite low, but I feel that it is not just them that need to control these current problems, but all of us as users. We spam every now and again, it can't be helped, but its this thickening of flaming that is ripening everywhere that is causing these problems. MrMister is not a bad spammer, yes he spams, but as noted we all do. We all make harsh comments to people, sometimes deserved, mostly not. Shouldn't we be thinking first at our comments before we post?

Don't be stupid Mid, your a good mod. Yes you spam, but i can tell you I've done and said things that are worse than what you have. Honestly, I'm surprised I haven't been banned (referring to the incident with Cyberninja). You have kept stability. That deserves a bow.

Heh.
Mid, I didn't mean to insult you, I was using that as an example of a bad choice Sai has made.
When I insult someone, it isn't out of anger. I'm exercising my God-given right to say what I think.
That may sound like a pretty lame argument, but I just don't censor myself. It never occurs to me that I should.
Uhm, I'm going because I don't enjoy going to Charas anymore.
I still like most of you guys.. and SaiKar, it's nothing personal. I think you lack the cognitive capacity to lead a forum, but you're still a pretty nice guy.

I need to post what I think. If I'm not allowed to do that here, I gotta go. Please don't stay pissed at me, because I honestly never meant to hurt any feelings. I've never had my feelings hurt on the internet, so I can't understand it.

MiC, I really don't care what someone thinks of me if I don't have any respect for them.

Sure, you can say whatever you want Mr. Mister, but it doesn't make it perfectly fine to say. I think you're a really cool dude, but sometimes you DO go a little too far. Words are words, whether you say them or type them, and words can be hurtful.

It's sad to see you go, especially like this. You kinda surprise me, you make yourself look like a hypocrite when you basically say, "I can say whatever I want about anyone and not expect rebuke." You can't expect to be able to go up to a police officer call him a "goddamn anal sucking pig" and not expect some kind of bad reaction, even he is a goddamn anal sucking pig. Sometimes, a little restraint isn't a bad thing.

Well, if you want to leave, go ahead. But I really don't think you should, Charas won't be the same without you.

Meh, you don't seem to understand.. Noone is telling you to shut the hell up, all we're asking is you tone it down a bit. Be alittle nicer for a while. Yet you wish to make a big deal out of it, *shrugs* That is why I said you are acting childish. You gotta understand, people (not includin you) have this thing called emotions. It's easy to hurt them and create another Jynce.

I'm going to make an extremely bold and daring move.... and be the only n00b to post in this thread thus far.

I have noticed that MrMr and several other people have gone the offensive in some of their posts, but it's not nearly as bad as other places on the internet, let alone real life.

I agree that people should be able to say what they want, but there was a mention somewhere in the Core Democratic Values that 'as long as it doesn't infringe upon other people's pursuit of happiness' or whatever. If you're just making fun of a friend of yours (do I have any on this forum yet?), that's fine by me, and probably most other people, although they may say, 'SPAM! SPAM!'  But attacking new members, and the youngsters,  ain't cool.

As for the spam, I've done that at least once.  Almeidaboo and a bunch of other people yelled at me for that, and I apologize profusely for it, and I try not to do it anymore.  But at least people aren't running amok on this forum saying, 'Hey! Buy my product!  By the way, I'll need your credit card and social security numbers for.....  processing purposes <.<'

And the random flaming....  I don't know what flaming means, so I'm leaving that one alone.

That's my perspective on this topic.

Oh, and fare thee well, Mr. Mister.

People can react however they want to what I say, and it's fine.
You are telling me to censor myself, which is something I'm not willing to do. Now excuse me, but I'm really going this time. Like, last post. Please just send me off like a nice person.

That's going to be really awkward in the workplace.

Anyway, take care.
