Title: The Obvious
Post by: Grandy on August 04, 2006, 12:34:05 AM
It's this theory I came up, that every human being, given the oportunity. will:

 Point out the obvious.
Negate(for a lack of a better word) the obvious.
And finally, won't accept the obvious as obvious.

Picture this: Three friends are walking, when a rock falls down in front of them.
The first friend points to the orck and says "A rock fell from the sky"
The second friend look at him and says "Rocks don't fall from the sky!"
And lastly, the thirth friend will call expecialists and will do many experiments to find out how did the rock appeared there, instead of only accepting that the rock is there.

 Questions?

So are you saying that any person will do one of those three things?

Grandy: *States the obvious*
Tomi: *Questions the obvious*
Meiscool: *Overlooks Grandy's statement for flaws, finds none*

Kinda like...
3 people see a bird crawling

1: Look, the bird's crawling
2: Birds cannot crawl
3: I thought birds flew for transportation

Deny is a better word then Negate.

This is because Tomi is the deep thinker.

Tomi can't fall from the sky... Oh, we changed subjects...

How exactly did you come upon this conclusion?

Interesting theory.

I wonder if you can tell something about who gives which step most frequently...

My guess is that the denile one is pessimistic.
The third one would be a logical person...
And the person who states to obvious might be someone who is observant...

No no, I thought you guys had figured it out by now. Sorry for the misunderstanding, and sorry if I hurt Tomi's feewings. I think that I was supposed to say something out of the ordinary, then someone else would chime in with a statement of the obvious that clearly questions what I had to say, followed by someone who wants proof of it. Is that about right, Grandy? Or am I celebrating too soon on having figured it out?

Post by: Razor on August 04, 2006, 04:45:50 AM
This thread is head trauma.

And I'd be the guy who points out the obvious, then questions how it happened. And then probably the third thing.

Your theory is wrong in my situation. If this happens, it goes as follows:
*it's hot in the room*
Person 1: It's hot in here...
Person 2: Nooo, it's cold in here. [/sarcasm]
or
Person 2: Good fricking call, [Person 1]

Title:
Post by: Drace on August 04, 2006, 05:16:04 AM
Or

Drace: It's on in here.
Razor: Yeah...
or
Razor: Hell yeah...

Grandy: I am bored.
Grandy: No way! I can't get bored! I just post random crap on Charas!!!
Grandy: Is this wise? The probability of  a popularity decrease is dangerously high. But, erm, why not!

Ah, I see. Anyway, I find that a lot of times, people agree with the obvious instead of negating it. If someone says its hot out, and it is hot out, the second person usually will agree with the statement instead of trying to deny it. The same thing is true for a lot of obvious stuff out there.

Like yesturday at work, I punched in and walked into the store, it was buisy. This is how our conversation went.

Person 1: Wow, its really buisy
Me: yup
Person 3: *nods head*
Title:

I think he means when something happens that's out of the ordinary. No ones going to honestly deny it's hot when it's 120 degrees if you ask them. Now, if a dog were to talk...

P1: That Dog just spoke!
P2: Dogs can't talk!

I mean, sure... P2 might say "Woah!", but odds are he'll be all "WTF?" and question it.

Ah, that would make more sence.

Though I don't really consider something thats out of the ordinary as 'obvious'...
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on August 04, 2006, 03:43:52 PM
Well, if you just saw the dog talk, then, obviously, the dog spoke.

Hence, it's obvious to you that the dog spoke, though it might not be to people that don't believe dogs can speak english.

But still, the rule is that p1 will state the obvious, p2 will negate the obvious, then p3 does something.

If its hot outside, thats obvious, thus it would fit the rules.

I think maybe we need to add that this only applies in cases where the obvious is a bit out of the ordinary. That might work a little better.

It still makes perfect sense though. I'd be either person 1 or 3.

Not quite. I believe what the original post says is that they are the three possible reactions that people could say. He's just using p1/p2/p3 as examples. It's not guaranteed that, should 3 people be walking down the street when something weird happens, they'll all react in those three ways.

I'd be Person 5, who waits for the first idiot to say something, the second  moron to counter-phrase him, and the third highly-intellectual person to pose a question about what happened.  After Person 4 (Rev), asks, 'Who the hell cares?'  I get up, walk away, and comtemplate what just happened.  And thus end the chain.

I really can't see anyone reacting as 'meh' for a talking dog.

Less for Drace. I can portrait him doing everything. It's creepy.

Wasn't he a wolf? Well... wolf look like dog... bah whatever...

If I was walking with two of my friends and that a rock would fall in front of us, it would mostly look like this :

P-1 : A rock just fall in front of us!
Me : That could be.
P-3 : Where does it come from?
Me : I don't know...
P-1 : Oh well...
*walk away*

Hehe, I'm awesome. I can jerk off with no hands and no one else around. Yeah, I'm that awesome. And about the talking dog thing, this is what would happen:

Dog: Hi Drace.
Drace: *grabs sticks* *smacks dog* Bad dog. *smacks dog again* BAD, DOG.

Person 4 could also say "touché". Person 1 makes the point, person 2 the counterpoint, person 3 questions it.

P1: That person on Starcraft is hacking!
P2: He's not hacking, you just suck.
P3: I wonder if he is hacking.
P4: Touché.

That convo goes on whenever my friends and I go on Battle.Net.

Drace: Well if it's hot, then why aren't you sunbathing, naked.
