what kind of anime do you like?
Title:
Post by: DragonBlaze on August 04, 2006, 03:33:22 AM
Yeah, I was going to BUY an anime series, yes BUY because if theres something I like, I'll support it by actually paying for it (plus I have around $19,000 worth of illigal crap on my compy, and I don't want to reach the $20,000 mark just yet :p)

The thing I like with animes more than american TV shows, is that from the ones I've seen, every episode is important to the series, and they usually run back to back, where as in other tv shows, 50% of the shows are pointless to the series as a whole, and then the plot developes really slow, and its just not as interesting to watch a large number of episodes back to back. Like this past week I watched the entire series of Dragon Drive while working in rm2k3.

Anyway, back on topic, if you like dragons at all, get dragon drive. If you don't like dragons much then  :yell:

Buy Get Backers like I did. It's a really good anime all the way till the end.
I remember I wrote a whole summary on that anime at Mid's forum, never even got one reply. Mid's forum sucks. v_v'

Especially around here, you don't get many animes (Other than something on Cartoon Network). I think my favorite anime is Gokusen. It's short, but it's nice. Every character got some kind of developement, and it had a nice plot. If you don't mind the anime stereotypes, it's good to watch.

Akira, Princess Mononoke, and Street Fighter were good anime movies.

I used to watch a lot of DBZ/GT, but that got old after awhile....

The Boondocks are good.

I've only seen one episode of Inuyasha, but that was pretty good. Adult Swim on CN idn't half-bad, by my low standards.

Rurouni Kenshin is probably one of the best animes I've ever seen.... along with Samurai X.  But then, I have only seen a handful of anime/manga.

Pokemon/Yu-Gi-Oh! used to be fun to watch, but then I grew up.
Title:
Post by: oooog on August 05, 2006, 12:59:44 AM
I don't consider pokemon and digimon an anime.  I consider it Japanese Disney.

That said, I would like to say that I still respect the pokemon games.  They're still kickass.  oooog likes Japanese Disney!  I also liked Kingdom Hearts.  That had American Disney, even though it was originally American.  Coincidence?  No, it was planned out.  Duh.

Major props to my Homeslices, Marvin the Martian and Roadrunner.

I have no idea what I am saying.  I'm not even sure if what I said even links together with anything.  So I will state it simply so this post isn't considered spam.

Pokemon and Digimon weren't very good.  Dragonball and Dragonball Z (To an extent) were good, but GT was not.  Boondocks isn't an anime, but it is good.  Kenshin is awesome.

I would like everyone to know, that I think Marvin the Martian and Roadrunner are my heros.  Next to Razor.  And Pyro I guess.  And half of Drace.

I'm an Eva fan. I don't find it overrated only because I'm into really weird, deep uinderstanding anime.

I can agree tho, that some animes which become very big can get overrated. I think tho its each their own opinion. I do agree with you on Inuyasha. Also Naruto is hell overrated.
Title:
Post by: oooog on August 05, 2006, 02:25:30 AM
Evangelion...just..I never got into it.  Don't know why.  My natural anime instinct.

Naruto, I afree with you.  They need to stop the filler episodes that aren't even in the manga though.  Pretty soon they will get out of their 50 episode crap filler, and get into the Kakashi's past episodes I've been eagerly awaiting.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on August 05, 2006, 03:17:09 AM
Yeah, Naruto has fillers.

Naruto may be a sissy anime, and it's plot only revolves around dreams and betrayal basically, but it's probally the best animated eye-candy anime out there. It's also got fights that are a million times better then robots and samurais.

Weregnome: Do you like Ghost in the Shell too?

Ah no point is taking points cause he cant stand it. Maybe he was watching it in english. I however never got to ep 2 on the english eps. Excels voice is horrible in english.

I only watch it in Japanese or I ignore it.

But I rather watch Tsubasa Chronicles, but so far I am stuck at ep 37 cause Japan hasnt finished eps 38-43. Plus it hasnt been translated to english yet.

Man I love Youtub website, all the anime you want all day all night, but only in japanese sometimes with subtitles :P

o_o

Wow you people are kind of.."happy anime" huh. I honestly cant stand alot of anime. I kinda like the off beat creepy ****. And maybe a few mangas. Seems like alot of you really are into the ridiculously overrated popular anime. Well er..

Mangas I'd suggest:
Q-Ko-Chan
DeathNote
Priest

Animes:
Hellsing
Neko Machi
Blood+
Gendai Kibunroku Kaii Monogatari
Gilgamesh
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust
Bleach

The "If you're lazy and dont want to DL them in japanese" animes:
Bobobo-bo-bobobo
FMA
Paranoia Agent ( <3 )
Samurai Champloo
Kurenbo (I think thats what its called)
Cowboy Bebop

Also, Naruto is in no way the best animated. Nor does it have the best fights. Although, I do admire how each fighter has a different style. But after the first 3 seasons, I kinda got tired of it. I felt like I was watching Dragonball Z with ninjas.

I saw the first 3 episodes in japanese on Youtube, but they removed all the others :( Couldn't find the Japanese version so I had to listen to the english. I hear the piercing sound of her voice still every singe time it's quiet. It does, however, fit her character. And after half of the season she got a new voice actor (a better one) because the first had damage her voice doing Excel xD

Oh, off topic, english Bleach wont suck, I don't think.  Here is the cast:

Johnny Yong Bosch as Ichigo Kurosaki  - Vash from Trigun
Derek Stephen Prince as Uryu Ishida - Shino from Naruto
Michelle Ruff as Rukia Kuchiki - Elie from Rave Master
Stephanie Sheh as Orihime Inoue - Hinata from Naruto

Those are the ones I care about.  There are a few others, but they don't really matter.  All in all, I think it's a pretty good choice.

:yell: You're just being difficult......  How many episodes did you give it?  Keep in mind that many a series start off slow.

I call RaXhephon Evangelion 2.  I really didn't see much difference between the two.  I guess I don't like those types of anime.

Read or Die was good as well, but it still didn't make my list of favorites.

All in all, I think the general tone of the members is, Get Kenshin.

FLCL had a manga of about 3 volumes, i think. The nime is so much better cus it took a budget that would have enabled 22 episodes and used it for 6, thus increasing the dramatic voiceovers and animation and effects. orgasmed once.

Evangelion....hate...HATE IT..I saw one ONE episode on adult swim, it was so boring. The dude killed his friend (some blonde haired dude) with his robot. Like 6 friggin minutes for that ONE scene.. It was so annoying, and Rei was just there. Gah, the boy seemed like a straight up queer.

Read or Die..I saw only a small scene from it. A very long time ago..I loved it. I wish they would show it again, :(

Outlaw star was a friggin classic, I saw the whole thing..and then they never showed the second or whatever season..Why Gene!? Why did you shave off your lovely red hair... *cries*

And again, HELLSING!! just cause I'm a total spazz and love..LOVE ARUCARD!! *huggles*

Hellsing, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, and of course, Big-O. I agree with mid. Evangelion = ew. I saw a pretty cool japanese one called Shadow Skill. But its got subs. Gundress was a pretty cool movie. Hunter x Hunter is okay.

All CN exploited toons; meh.

I'll give you cred if you saw them somewhere else.

I saw 6 episodes of evangelion on my cousin's house once. Wasn't all that bad for me. Though it seemed more like a harem anime, like Tenchi Muyo was.

Paranoia Agent anyone?
Elfen Lied?
Witch Hunter Robin?
Rozan Maiden?
FATE STAY NIGHT?! 8D

Oh yah, btw: Naruto sux =X IMO anywho. SPECIALLY the CN version

I don't care if its "CN" exploited. If I like it, I like it.

Anyways, I saw Hellsing, Gundress, and SHoadow Skill at some buddies. I'm not enough of an anime fan to hunt down shows on me own... When was Hellsing on CN? WHat have I missed?

Michelle Ruff as Rukia Kuchiki - Elie from Rave Master
Stephanie Sheh as Orihime Inoue - Hinata from Naruto

Those are the ones I care about.  There are a few others, but they don't really matter.  All in all, I think it's a pretty good choice.

On topic:
A saw this listed once, it may have been on there more than once, but I dunno.  Bravo to you for listing this anime.

Love Hina.  That anime was hilarious.  It is definatly within my top 3 favorite animes overall.  Had a great plot, was unique (At the time) and was overall good.  For anyone who posted something positive about anime in this thread, this one is a must see.  I have not met a person who has not liked this anime.

Well...I absolutely hated it. I thought it was a...really stupid plot.

Well...I HATE soap opera/comedy animes. And I hate Evangelion. Way too slow paced. And that kid is such an emo queer. Kenshin and Vash(Trigun) are both little girly men. They need to kill SOMETHING. Samurai X was okay though.

We appear to be complete opposites when it comes to anime Rev.  Well, maybe not polar opposites.  Maybe I'm less picky or something.  I appreciate good humor in animes, a break from action animes.  After watching all of Dragonball Z, Love Hina was a great alternative.

I can basicly laugh at all kinds of humor, so I like almost everything. Even things that are supposed to be serious but done sooo bad, I can laugh at the stupidity of it.
Take Surface for example. I watched the whole bloody season of Surface, it's not high rated by me (and I'm a high rater), but still I've watched it all. The show started out ok-ish, but just a few episodes in, the show becomes so stupid, dumb and retarded, killing science and the laws of physics mixed with bad acting and stupid events, that I see it as a comedy, not a Sci-Fi Drama. I suggest that if anyone wants a laugh, they should see this show with their Comedy glasses on, not Sci-Fi Drama.

I can watch almost any anime, except Sailor moon. That old series traumatized me when I was like 11 and they showed it with swedish dubs, EXTREMELY HORRIBLE! I go nuts as soon as I see something that has ANYTHING to do with em, except a flash movie where a fat guy cosplayed as one of them.

Anyways, question and a bit off topic. Has anyone ever seen the movie 'Infection?' It wasn't an anime, but it was a japanese movie. A horror movie at that, pretty good o.o;;

Two. And the second book is completely different from the second half of the anime.

*SPOILER*  Now theres no point to me to read FLCL.  That was the only thing I was looking forward to.

For a good comedy, I'd recommend getting Cromartie High School.  It was great for a good random laugh, and is the only anime that is better in english.

Maybe nobody felt it was worth mentioning.  Kinda like me an Evangelion and Inuyasha.  I myself, can't mind it.  Perhaps I don't want to find it.  Who knows.  If you like it though, more power to you.

Thank you Robotam for posting.

Get Backers.  A very good anime.  It has action, drama, comedy, suspense, not really a plot, just several mini plots, but all in all, it's great.  Trigun also merges nicely with this anime.

Nope. *tells the whole story* Infection (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/film/618)

It's about two doctors and three nurses who accidently kill one of their patients and don't want to get in trouble for it. So they try to cover it up, and destroy the evidence. In order to do so, they need to keep the body hidden in a room with a heater for a few hours, hoping it will decay faster. Unfortunately, the next patient to arrive is carrying an extremely infectious and deadly disease that puts them all in danger.

The new patient suddenly turns into goo and disappears. Afterwards, they start seeing green instead of red (It reminds me of that thread Oooog made, about the seeing green instead of red and what not). So they slowly find out that they're infected. They get infected by touching the blood I think. The ones that are infected start killing themselves, and spread it. Towards the end one doctor is still alive, and he gets into trouble when another doctor (who was home) comes in to get her stuff. He cuts himself by accident, and then he ends up hiding in a locker, and she calls the cops blah blah blah. She didn't believe him..until the end  :D

It's a really friggin awsome movie. Scared me for a while ^^

if i were to start a seeing a comoleted anime series and the three first episdes were slow or bad i would skip toward seen a middle episode. if i didnt like that middle episode then i would watch it anymore.

Foor new animes i often watch the first 6 episodes.

as for excel saga, that would be last impressions 8X

For the last episode (they already wrapped up the show in the previous), the writers decided to go so over the top that even Japan wouldn't air it. And it did. Yes, it has hentai, extreme violence, pedophilism, lesbianism and other crazy stuff in it. Not my favourite episode.

Anyways, I usually try to cath the last episode. If it has a really cool ending, I'll want to see what led up to it and watch the whole thing. Rarely do I watch 1st eps. Hell, if you watch the last ep of Trigun thats the only one you need to get the whole plot.

Princess mononoke, I didnt like it as much as I did spirited away. It was pretty awesome.

Steam boy was good.

most of Hayao Miyazaki's films are quite good actuall, like Nausica and Howl's Moving Castle, and of course teh classics, Kiki's Delivery Service and Castle in the Sky.

Yep the princess of the wind. I think i remember her using some flying thingy that to purify the air or ground or something.

Kiki was awesome XD

Castle in the sky was cool too =D

Agreed, Kiki was too... not... good. Yeah. Pom Poko was a cool Miyazaki movie about raccoons who turn into people. He did another movie thats only japanese that I watched, but it was just about a girl growing up to be a 30 year old single woman who moves to a farm to pick flowers. Kinda odd.

EDIT: Bloodlust was what I saw. I Wanna see the first now.

Why do people always think yau hav to watch 1000 episodes to not like something? Anyways, for me Naruto is like Inu-Yasha.
Episode 1: Hey, that was pretty cool. I think I'll watch another.
Episode 2: Okay, its not going anywhere, but it was okay, I think I'll watch  few more.
Episode 10: The hell? Nothings happening. Every episode is the same.
Episode 26: Every episode is the same. Sure there have been some fights, and maybe theyv introducd the baddie, but every episode is still the same! Screw this. I'm going to watch Big-O.

I watched up to 156. And theresno way in HELL Im giving an anime more than 3 episodes to impress me. Let alone 100. Even FMA, sorry but I really cant watch an anime moving that slow. And I thought both Trigun AND Hellsing sucked, so, blah. Hellsing just...moved way too slow.

I learned that if you watch the first and last episodes of an anime, you get a better impression than just watching the first few. If both are interesting, then you need to watch the whole series.

I like watching stuff in order. Otherwise the plots get given away and there's no fun anymore.

Not really 'true' anime, but I like the animated part of Kill Bill Vol. 1.  Lots o' stuff.  Also, the music video for 'Breaking The Habit' by Linkin Park is pretty cool.  Again, they're not really 'true' anime, they're like 'Ameripan' or some crossover term like that, but meh.  Close enough for me.

Bad Anime: Zatch Bell.

Anime is just the style its done in. Japanime is japanese anime, or what I asume you mean by 'real' anime. Thats like saying "Its only a real 'cartoon' if its american. Anything else is just animated.". Meh.

Well, I don't watch much anime, and I don't know hardly any anime writers/producers except that one guy who makes Yu-Gi-Oh!, so I'm kind of a n00b at anime and stuff at this.  But true anime I consider to the more classical animation, like with big eyes and stuff like that.  But that's just the way I see anime.
