Title: Single Favorite Video Game
Post by: aboutasoandthis on August 18, 2006, 10:40:47 PM
Hopefully, this won't turn stupid.

Just post your favorite game of all time. Why you like it? Is it fun for everybody, or just you? If it's that good, is it easy to find and play now?

My favorite game will always be Paper Mario. There are better RPGs and Mario games out there, but I got a place in my heart for this one. They took a turn based RPG and put a lot of time attacks into it. Things like that make RPGs fun for me. It had this cartoony style that reminded me of Parappa the Rapper. My little brother has mild autism, so has some trouble reading. I kind of teach him to read with RPG games. This one was probably the most fun for him. It was a fun game. I think fun should be the most important thing when it comes to videogames.

What you pick doesn't matter. You can pick something from a console, an online game, or even an RPG Maker game. You just can't go outside and play it.

Yes, I was that bored.

Well, as far as text-based operations go.....

Star Wars: Dark Forces

If Lucas Arts would just come out with a modern remake of that, the greatest Star Wars game ever would be back in action!  If...

Argh... I have two. I can't help it.

Star Ocean: The Second Story and Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse. I just really became attached to both of them. Castlevania III when I was really young and Star Ocean 2 once two of my friends and I were all into it.

EDIT: Oh, yes and Sonic 3 & Knuckles has to come next very close behind.

I have NFI.

I mean, I loved FF7, Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island was awesome, I've spent countless hours on Diablo/2, and many other things that have made life special.

One thing for certain, my favourite game is not THE GAME. WHICH I JUST LOST, LOL.

Wow... So many memories to choose from... I guess if I had to choose, it'd be... The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past/Four Swords. I would have picked Link's Awakening, but the inclusion of multiplayer in the remake of this SNES classic makes it tops on my list. I've beaten this game so many times that I've lost count. And I'll do it just as many times over again.

One of my favorite RPGs is Dragon Warrior Monsters II.
Also, one game I've always been kinda attached to and couldn't stand to sell was the first Wario game.  I believe I got it when i was about 4 from my grandmother, along with one of the original Game Boys.  Four batteries!  hehe....

Anyways, that's my best childhood memory.... don't destroy it, please, MIC!

Hmm, FF7 definitely being my top. Finished it sooo many times I've lost count, at one point I had 2 Memory Cards full of saves which were all very good (Gold Chocobo at least, in most cases both WEAPONs destroyed)...

Second would have to be Suikoden II. I loved the first, got the second and was hooked by the magnificent gameplay, storyline and music. Beautiful game -- one of the most emotional I've seen.

Aww, screw you ZKX ^.^, I have to say FF7. I can't dislike my favourite game of all time just because it's over liked. FF6, Mechcommander and FF9 come in closely afterwards, but nothing will top FF7 for me ^.^

1. Fable + Fable: The lost chapters (same game, but lost chapters has more features and areas.)

2. Conker: Live and Reloaded.

3. Halo (PC version, so you don't have to pay to play with others across the internet)

4. Soul Calibur (Dreamcast version)

5. Blinx: The time sweeper (Dumb, but very addicting.)

6. Destroy all humans.

7. Tetris

8. Hovendall tactics (games made with game maker count, right?)

9. Super Mario Bros. 3 (First video game I ever beat without needing cheats.)

10. Powerstone 2 (Again, dumb, but very addicting)

(OMG! Has FF9, never played it lol.)

I've been playing tons of games since I was six, actually... Master System was my first console and then I moved on to Mega Drive. About 25-30 games there. Next was Playstation and Playstation 2. About 100 games there. Dreamcast - about another 10. Nintendo Handhelds - about another 15. Gamecube, that's another 10. PC? 15.

25 + 100 + 10 + 15 + 10 + 15 = 175 Games, probably a lot more -these are only estimates and I went for the lowest value I know I definitely have. So, yes, I am an avid gamer. [STRIKE]And I have a life too![/STRIKE]

I personally can't find FF7 overrated as I love it so much, but I appreciate it could be very annoying if you don't like it

RPGs are my favourite genre too, and I've yet to see something top FF7, especially as I played it when it first came out (1997, I was only seven :p)

EDIT: @Cerebus: There's Ultima WEAPON too, but I don't count him as he's too easy to be counted as one of the superbosses. Beating him is hardly an achievement ;)

I thought there were four? Ruby, Emerald, Diamond and Ultima.
You fight Diamond out side Midgar
You fight Ultima to get the final weapon for cloud
You fight Emerald Underwater
You fight Ruby in that desert.

And Diamond was easier then Ultima for me
Title:
Post by: Cerebus on August 19, 2006, 01:23:54 PM
Oh wait, Emerald's the one in the Water, right? And Ultima's the flying one? I thought it was Omega... well... and yes, there are four, actually, but Diamond get killed by the Huge cannon in Midgar, if I remember correctly, so it doesn't count.

Dun' forget Saphire Weapon. He was killed by the sister ray in Junion.

Revolution911: Not many can decide on just one, with so many good ones out there.

Why do so many like Chrono Trigger? I played it several times, but I can't like it. I really tried to get into it, but I just can't like it. I think DBZ ruind Chrono and Dragon Quest for me. I just can't seem to get into them. :|

BTW, there is no such thing as a Sapphire Weapon. That was Emerald Weapon+Bad Graphics at Junon. I'm replaying FF7 right now.

Yay someone feels the same way I do!

Try using the Eternal Sphere. Look up online how to craft it. Then once you beat the final boss, from the last save point of the game you can run back to the battle arena, go back to Expel, get on a Synard in Expel and fly to the insanely challenging cave of trials! I never made it past the 11th or 12th floor...

EDIT: Oh, yes and bunny shoes help. Now that I think of it you can go to the cave of trials before beating the final boss, where you can find bunny shoes. You can also win bunny shoes at the bunny races.

Blasphemy! For one, DBZ isn't even in CT. Sure the art style is the same, but that never bothered me. In fact, I liked the art. But eh, everyone has their own opinion. Maybe you didn't like it because the game itself was too simplistic when it came to super duper advanced systems or something. Or maybe the plot was just too complicated for you to grasp. I dunno, but my opinion still and most likely always stand the same.
And CT > FF7. 'nuff said.

The only reason I ever played CT in the first place was because of Toriyamas art. The game itself was me.

Because I'm now in my room, and can actually look at my collection, I'd have to say F-ZERO or Rayman. F*** Skies of Arcadia. Disembodied heads and anti-grav cars.

The farthest I've ever gotten to (just to play and not to rip sprites) was to the "trial" in Chrono Trigger. I tried, but it just wasn't fun for me. I wouldn't say the storyline was too complex for me. I completely understood games like FF7 and Vagrant Story. I just never played far enough to actually get into the story. If I'm not on the edge of my seat the entire game and I have to trudge to get to the good part, I just put the game down. The art style bothered me a lot. I don't like it...

I have a weird taste in games. Unless it's something like Resident Evil or Grand Theft Auto or something, My favorite games either have extremely deep and confusing storylines or they're like fairie tales. I don't mind watching anime, but I don't like my games to be like animes.

Close behind Paper Mario: Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Vagrant Story, FF9, and FFTactics are right behind them.

Whoever it was that said "both WEAPONS" in FF7 was probably referring to the NONquest ones, Ruby and Emerald.
Title:
Post by: Raen Ryong on August 20, 2006, 09:41:31 AM
Yep, that's what I meant.

Diamond and Ultima are nowhere near powerful enough to be superbosses, and one of them you HAVE to defeat, so therefore I don't bother stating that I've defeated them.

Otherwise, I might as well state that I in fact have beaten the almighty Guard Scorpion too. ;)

Suikoden II is a rare game, but an incredibly good one. I highly recommend it to anyone, especially if they play the first one before as they lead on to each other plotwise.

Legend of Dragoon was quite cool, albeit cliche. I hated the way you had to use the Divine Dragoon spirit for the last boss rather than the Red-Eye one though... it was so much weaker... :(

Well, I like all of the FFs and FF8 was also very good. In my opinion, the main problem was restricting your access during Disc 4 to only dungeons. Bah.

I'm still playing it. I'm at the Guardian Boss in the Future so far. I say it's getting a lot better. I just don't like trudging through something just to get to the good part. That's like a bad filler song on an otherwise good CD.

Yeah huh.

Emerald weapon looks nothing like that beast, it wasn't even the same color, they killed Sapphire there..

I remember seeing proof somewhere that it's name was saphire.. I think it was on ebay, some guy was selling an official action figure of it and it was made by Square.

If you think that thing looks anybit close to Emerald weapon in appearance, you need your eyes checked.

Sapphire

Thats what I did. On Morrowind too. I'm not going to play through a few truding hours of a game because "It gets good later on!". A game doesn't have to go anywhere early on, but it has to bring you in. If it doesn't reel you in, you're well within your freedoms to not play it.

I don't understand the conversation!

Even if I did, I'd still say it's a wee bit off topic. It relates to the topic, but maybe this should just be moved to PMs as it's just argument after argument. [/POOR_BACKSEAT_MODDING]

I grew up on Xenogears, I love the graphics, the music seems so relaxing and the story pulls you right in. I just want to play it to hours....Its mainly fun for me due to the fact its single player and most of my friends don't even play it. I have never gotten tired of it except this year but now I want to go play it....so see ya'll later XD

You can find it i guess for like 20 bucks for PS-ONE...Rpg fans should buy this game...definately....not even rpg fans just video game fans in general....

Unless a mod states otherwise, you can go off topic a bit. Besides, we weren't arguing at all. To be in an argument, we'd have to be going back & forth about this. I only posted about Sapphire once as did he.

Nowadays, that difference is very small. You can't say anything opposite of the others' opinions with fighting that person.

From the way I read it, an argument was arising.

Yes, Duck Hunt was awesome.

I found the translated magazine. I need to learn to notice things. It has got every, single little detail.

Nowadays, that difference is very small. You can't say anything opposite of the others' opinions with fighting that person.

Welcome to the 21st century! Please take a pamphlet and don't forget to drink many beers. [/SPAM]

From the way I read it, an argument was arising.

quote:
YOU FAIL AT KNOWLEDGE

Nowadays, just a simple statement like that could arise into..

"Oh yeah, well you fail at life."
"You fail kindergarten."
"You failed in pleasing your mom."
"You wanna take this outside?"
"You sure people walking by won't run from your ugly?" [/BEER_INDUCED_FIGHT]

So far your last two posts belong less in this thread than anything else.

Don't rate a game if that's all the farther you've done in it. That would be like me playing the first hour of Morrowind and saying: "This isn't going anywhere, I h8 dis gme!"

Yeah, but games have to be interesting from the beginning. To paraphrase that other thread regarding Naruto, you can't just say "Oh you need to watch all 200 episodes before you can form an opinion."

Final Fantasy IX

And I know people who have played many good video games, but FF7 is still their favorite.  Just because n00bs like it too doesn't mean its bad.

I've never played a Final Fantasy game.  Ever.

In fact, I've played hardly any RPGs in my day.  Pokemon, Dragon Warrior Monsters, Mario & Luigi, and Diablo/II are about it.

So....  why am I on a forum full of people who play RPGs when I hardly do at all?  [/SPAM]

I couldn't really say...  I never get tired of a street fighter game, no matter which one.

Oh yeah, why?  I like fighting games the most and this is the first one i really got into. It even has family moments tied into it. And I like the characters and the small development that grew along with series.

Exatly, I'm more of a action man myself.

RPGs I've played:

Final Fantasy 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 10-2
Monster Seed (Great game)
Baldur's Gate
Jagged Alliance 2
Lord of the Rings: The Third Age
...
...
...
Oh, WoW and Runescape. That's it I think.

Oh, and Rei practically owns all other RPG characters in my book. Best. Character. Ever.

Duck Hunt still owns all these games.  The only game that can even come close to beating Duck Hunt is the remake of Duck Hunt for the Wii, which might even be better.

Oh, some RPGs that slipped my mind: Fire Emblem and Legend of Zelda (all of 'em that came for Game Boy).

I would say Donkey Kong Land 1/2 were pretty much my favorite games for the GB when I was a young whippersnapper.   I especially like the soundtrack from DKL 2.  DKL 3 wasn't as good as the other two, in my opinion.  Yoshi's Island was fun when I got the chance to play it with my neighbour.  Except, he got kinda mad at me for killing his black Yoshi...... >D

Donkey Kong Country 2 was freakin' legendary. I've got the soundtrack in my iTunes, lol.

I'll agree 3 wasn't as good, but I never owned 1 so I can't say how good it was. A bit hard IIRC, but then against I was like 7-8 back then.

Tales of Rebirth is my all time favorite RPG. Seiken Densetsu III is a close second though. Also Super Metroid is probably my favorite sidescroller ever.

OMG, that song IS awesome. I have the entire soundtrack as well. :D
I pretty much hated any of the levels with brambles though. :p

And btw, though not my favorite, I'd say I really enjoyed Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 (for the dreamcast, not GC) as my non rpgs.

What about Boss and Main theme? These were two of my favorite song in DK2. I liked the castle song too... and K. Rool's was good too. DK2 was the best in the serie, in my opinion.

I really enjoy the bramble theme from DKC2. There's something so... I don't know, calm, about it. Also, that theme "Snakey Chanty" is a nice happy tune.

The bramble theme is probably my favorite video game track ever.  Unfortunately, I could never find the original soundtrack in MP3 format, so all I have are a bunch of MIDI remakes on my computer.  Version 6 of that track is really....  peaceful.  I believe it's on VGMusic, although it may be from some other website I found the MIDI files on, I'm not really sure.

Another good track, while we're still on the subject, would be the game menu on ALTTP for GBA, when you choose between ALTTP and 4 Swords.  I ripped that and put about 25 min. worth of it on my computer.  I'll probably burn it to a CD and play while I'm trying to fall asleep.  :p  Just to be cool.

Chrono Trigger here. Others include Metal Gear Solid series, Final Fantasies VI, VII, and X, Resident Evil 2, and a game I just recently beat, Shadow of the Colossus. But definately Chrono Trigger #1.

Hmm... Kinda Tough to choose,

Chrono Trigger: First RPG I played that Revolves around Time Travel and has over 10 Endings to it, New Game+ makes it even more fun if you want to play through the story again while hyperpowered.

Skies of Arcadia: Ship battles and good plot.

Final Fantasy 6: You Overthrew the one who destroyed the world and as he ruled it's ruined state, not kill him beforehand.

Star Ocean 2: Finally a Villain without Silver Hair Plus 80+ endings Private Actions and a great story give massive replay value.

Live A Live: So many characters and cliches rolled into one.

Cave story: Mix Metroid's weapon system with Castlevania's RPG Element and you get a awesome shootem' up.

Final Fantasy 7: Good game with a great story but the fans really killed this for me

Final Fantasy 3j: Original game with Job System, Plus you get to fly an airship that also acts as an Inn and Item/Magic/Weapon Shops as well as storage with the Fat Chocobo

Romancing Saga: Has a more original Battle System: Stats grow based on what happens in battle, plus a decent story and you can do any event in any order unless you have to clear and earlier event to reach it. But if you fight too much you miss events. If you do certain actions you can go to The Trials of Elore (Best Weapons in the game are found there) or the netherworld (Where you can meet and Fight Death!)

Romancing Saga 2: Similar to Romancing Saga, but this has an inheritance system, after every few events, a new generation starts and your stats are passed on to the next generation. However the events are not timed based on how many battles are fought, so you can clear them all if you want. Introduces the Factor of Life Points (Character can be revived with normal healing items/magic but if you run out of LP, it's game over!) Waza points: Weapon points, Jutsu Points: Magic.

Romancing Saga 3: Similar to the First 2 games but has a much better battle system and more memorable story as well as characters. (What other game can you play that has a lobster, a vampire, a fairy, a snowman, and an elephant that can be in your party?) There are also several minigames you can play also from running a corporation, to fighting wars

Saga Frontier: Like the first 3 Romancing Saga Games but you can play as 7 Different characters Each with their own story. After Clearing all stories you can access 2nd Division which allows you to fight the bosses again and discover some stuff about the game as well as play the music found in it
