So yeah, today, all the seniors at our school had to go to this meeting. They were talking about all this boring crap, but then they said something about we could graduate at the end of the first semester if we had all our credits in and everything. I thought to myself, and then I realized that I had everything I needed to graduate early.
So as of January 19th, 2007, I'm done with high school, and I have a 7 month break until collage starts :D In which time of course I'll be working and saving up money for collage.
I've been jumpy all day since I learned this and I just had to get it off my chest.
-
Is it manditory to grad if youy have the creds, or just an option? If youcan choose, I'd just stay.
-
Its just an option.
I want to get a career in computer programming or possibly game programming. I already took all the computer programming classes my school offers. I would have taken independend advanced computer programming next semester, but thats basically a 'teach yourself' course, so I don't need school for that. The only other class that is 'really' helping me in my career field would be math. I'm in a functions class for math right now, 80% of it is just an advanced algebra review (acording to my teachter). So school next semester won't really benefit me too much when it comes to my career.
Why should I stay?
I think it would be better if I worked full time in my job, make a lot of money. That way, I won't have to take out any loans for collage, and I'll be all set.

congrats bro! it is wise to save up for college, trust me I just started. Gas will kill ya though, I mean living in california it's pretty expensive for gas. I'm also taking a computer class, it's basic introduction to unix. THen from there I plan to go on to web design. You're going to miss high school, I think, I don't, I am actually glad high school is over
-
Thanks, I don't think I'll miss high school. My 3 best friends work with me, so I'll see them all the time, and I'll still hang out with my other friends.
I won't miss high school at all. At our high school, we only have 2 choices that we can make all day, 1 what to get for lunch, 2, where to sit for lunch. The rest of the day, we are told what to do, when to do it, how to do it, we have no say in it, we are required by law to do it, and if we don't do it, we get punished. I can't stand a system like that.

College si definitely more fun than high school and the classes aren't just busy work... usually. Depends on what classes you take. You do study a lot more, but it's not TOO bad. But it's cool that you can graduate early. I could've but I decided against it. But very cool. What university you looking at/going to?
-
Ooh you lucky sod.
All that free time, man. That'll rock. Then later you'll wish you had something to do.
Of course, games and friends fill that void!

American gas expensive pfft

I have a question moosey, how much was your gas before your prices went up?
Yeah and you might want to spell the word college right just once before considering it. 7 months isn't really enough to be working and expect to make a big dent, maybe for a quarter of the first year, to pick up where financial aid leaves off. You should just hold on to that.
-
You should just stick around for the hell of it.. Or take half days, those work too, 6 hours of playing video games and 2 hours of class... Yeah...
-
High-school ended early for me, too. School ends in May in Puerto Rico, but it ended in April last year because, somehow, all the funding for Education was lost, and the government had no money to pay the teachers with. So, school ended.
Believe it or not, I was enjoying my last few weeks of school, and I felt as though they had ripped food out of my mouth (I could only see my friends at school, because they live far away from me, and I don't have a car).

Nerd.

You lucky butch.

If I would finish the second semester, I would have to take at least 5 classes (required by law). I would most likely take 6 though, because most of my classes are two semster courses like physics, cisco networking, and such, so dropping them wouldn't make much sence. I couldn't make my schedual very easy either, because colleges look for that, I don't think they look at graduating early as 'taking it easy', but thats something I have to ask my guidance councellor tomarrow.
As for getting money for college. Working part time, at $7 an hour, I made $2000 over the summer (3 months). If I would work full time (it would be at $9 an hour) for 7 months, I would have enough money saved up to pay for my entire first year of college. I'm going to a 2 year college and then transfer to a 4 year college after that. The 2 year college I want to go to is within driving distance, so I wouldn't have to worry about paying for dorms or anything. My brother is going there right now, I think its only around $4500 per semester. If I was going to a 4 year college right away and needed to pay for room and board and everything, then I don't think I could pay it off working those 7 months.

Colleges see having the points to graduate early as a plus, but if you stay in school and take more classes, they will see you as someone who is dedicated towards their education, and will be more willing to accept you based on that.
-
My plan: Get as many physics scholarships as possible.
-
This sucks...
It seems that one of my 'enlish' classes doesn't count as an english credit, so I have to stick around for the .5 credit in english. Even though I only need one class, I'm required to take 5. Anyway, I'll just get out of shool at 12:15 each day instead.
My first hour is independant advanced computer programming, which is basically a study hall because most of the time we just order pizza and play games. Second hour in cisco networking which seems easy enough. Then physics and trig, then finally stupid mythology, damn enlish classes...

I get out a whole year early, thanks to my genuisness! I'm prob'ly one of the only seniors who are still only 16. And I got out early today as well! Go half-days! :D
-
Wee! We're in the same boat, Archem...'cept I'm already in college...and I already failed a Chemistry test (wasn't the only one, I tell you).
-
High-five for the Get Out of School Early club! *high-fives*
-
If it weren't for required classes, I could probably be out of school already... I have counted so far about 4-5 credits wasted on pointless classes. (forced to be taken, mind you)

Getting out a year early is no fun :p, you don't get any longer breaks because of it.
In my school, if you can graduate after 3 years, you might as well stick around for the 4th. Theres this tech program we have that allows you to go to a near by tech to take college classes and such, but as long as you get a C or better (or something like that) the school pays for everything. So basically you get a bunch of college credits for free. If you would already have all the high school classes you needed, you could basically just go to the tech all day and not bother with the high school.

Sure it's fun, because I can chill for a whole year longer than the rest of you! that's a whole year of slacking off! And jacking o-What'd I say?
Anyways, it means I can be done with it all faster, and that's a good thing. college? It's still school, and I suspect that most of you will go to some sort one of these days. Work is fine, not much more learning, you get paid, and no tests! I feel that you're just jealous!
