Synopsis
"Should one always believe what they are told? Is not history mythological tales and personal documentations of a person's daily life? Do we really believe that what somebody wrote down in the past is what really happened in their present? Is it not possible that somewhere along the line, a simple lie was created to sway others from the truth, because of some tragic event in the past? Is it possible that this simple lie became greater as more were informed, and the already exaggerated fiction grew even more as the tale was told from civilization to civilization? Everything we believe in, everything we stand for; the very point of our existance... what is our purpose in life? Were we really delivered from a world wide slavery, or do we still satisfy others in a less harmful way? What makes history true? How can we know what happened when we never saw it happen? How can we be sure that what we are told is of truth and not false? What if everything we have been told is spawned from that very first lie? What if this one event changed the world forever? What if the real truth is being hidden from us...?"
Each of these questions were asked by select Senyaltians all around the world, from Trazunia to Sumeria; Fairn to Tecalthai. All of these questions received the same answer, "These are questions that have been asked for many years now. They do not need answers, history is history." Some time after these questions are asked, the following occurs, depending on the severity of the person's questioning.
- The person disappears, never to be heard again from that moment on. Any and all records of their existance are nowhere to be found, they are erased from history completely.
- An accident occurs, usually resulting in injury. There have been known cases where the person died because of the accident.
- The person's home is destroyed. This includes any and all crops or labor that the citizen took part in as well.
- More recently, people who have asked these questions have a very noticable change in personality. Their opinions on those subjects change dramatically, and their overall attitude changes as well.
Is this coincidence? It is highly doubtful that such occurences take place after each of these people question Senyaltian religion. Something is definitely being hidden from the people... and along your journey, you will come across places and people that will help solve a conspiracy that has taken place since the dawn of civilization on the planet.
Setting
It is the year 620 NA, and recently a war has broken out between Trazunia, a nation on the continent to the west; and Fairn, the continent to the east. The reasons for this war are unknown, but it is quite evident to most that it was started by Fairn for reasons unknown to the people. About 25 years previous, the now separate nation Sumeria, used to be allied with Trazunia. Sumeria and Trazunia were one continent years prior to the war, but when the Calathian leader went missing, his brother took the throne and broke of relations with their neighboring ally. He also declared Sumeria to be the anti-belligerant nation, and Sumeria no longer had any part in the war. Trazunia continues to fight, however, seeing Fairn as a great threat. Fairn's war tactics are ruthless, they don't care about civilians and will use any means necessary to accomplish their mission. Anything about Fairn; government, religion etc, is unknown to the world, because of the continent's isolation.Trazunia will continue to fight without the aid of Sumeria, in hopes to finally gain peace when the threat is nullified.
Religion
Religion is based on an event that happened in the early years of the planet. 7 sorcerers led a great slave rebellion in the years of the Empire, and remained victorious after an 8 year battle. They abolished slavery and became the respected leaders of the new world, leading the people into everlasting paradise. Their power was so great that they transcended the human plane of existance, and became ascended beings. They saved the citizens once again, years later, by a threat now known as The Omega Seal. It was a device created by an exiled priest, by converging the world's earthly essence into a relic that could call upon the very strength of nature. He brought the world to its knees with this power, but was stopped by the 7 greats and sealed into the relic he created. They continue to watch over and guide the people to this day, and are worshipped polytheistically as the gods of Senyaltia.
Characters

Ace: - Present
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Origin: Shurmer
Bio: Ace is an orphan, and knows nothing about his birth parents, although he doesn't tell anyone the latter fact. He enjoys adventuring and the outdoors, and hates being cooped up indoors for a long period of time - he would much rather be out hunting than studying in school. Despite his laid-back nature, he loves to take risks, and hates to back down from a challenge. He practices his swordplay almost constantly, and is talented with his weapon, the Sentinial.

Travis: - Present
Gender: Male
Age: 16
Origin: Shurmer
Bio: Travis is Ace's best friend, and is almost the polar opposite of the young swordsman. He follows orders and rules almost perfectly, and tends to be much more single-minded than Ace in following them. Although he prefers to spend most of his time studying the world and its history, he occasionally goes out with Ace to learn about the outside world directly. He is also interested in his own past, as he is also an orphan. Travis is weak in melee combat, but is a talented magician for his age, and among the only people in Shurmer that can use magic.

Fred: - Present
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown
Origin: Variun Forest
Bio: A strange gold-colored slime who lives in Variun Forest. Despite being a slime, he is quite knowledgeable, and knows things even Travis doesn't, making him a useful ally. His past is unknown to the party, and he keeps his all personal details to himself. Because of a lack of arms, Fred mainly uses his own body as a weapon, striking enemies with tendrils of slime or even eating enemies whole.

Sire: - Present
Gender: Male
Age: 21
Origin: Unknown
Bio: The highest-ranked knight of the Trazunian Army. He is a loner by nature, preferring to work alone. He is also very selfish and arrogant, holding himself in higher regard than others around him and insulting everyone else. But he has a good reason to be - he is an exceptional knight, and skilled in many types of melee combat. His preferred weapon is a magic sword called Exa, and the matching shield Vior.

Paige: - Present
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Origin: Calathia
Bio: A teenage Calathian girl, Paige tags along with the others after an unexpected occurrence of consecutive events. She takes a liking to Ace after the fact, and continues to stay with him from that point on. She may be a girl, but appearances can be deceiving. She's rather skilled with a dagger, and when angered, her innocent side changes to that of a more aggressive one.

Warxe: - Present
Gender: Male
Age: 45
Origin: Calathia
Bio: A well-respected man within Calathian nobility, Warxe holds the titles of head philosopher and architect in Sumeria. He was a friend of the previous king, and both went on adventures in their youth. Various psychic powers, such as mind-reading and ESP, have been attributed to Warxe, although he denies any such ability. He is, however, known to have magical power rivaling that of top Sumerian magicians.
Screenshots
Keep in mind that most of the characters in these screens will not be used in game. NPCs are currently being redone in Warxe's character style (which is the style used in OS) and some of these screens were taken before the new characters were completed. Story wise, these screens aren't in any type of order.

(Just a note, for those who knew before, this is no longer Calathia. Calathia is currently in the process of being redone. It will be a much larger and more involved city, like it should be. It's a good map though, so with a few changes it'll still be used. :) )

(I don't really like the overlay, so I probably won't use it.)

Any and all comments or criticism is welcome, so please, tell me what you think. ^_^

Cool.
-
This is, what, the fourth OS thread? Why don't you just update the old ones? :)
-
Agreed with both Warxe and Robotam. Mainly Robotam.
-
Is it just me, or does the ace sprite from the profile have a differant hairstyle from the ace in the screenies?
Anyway, this game looks pretty good, I'm looking forward to it.
Fred is the da bomb :D
-

Has his hair always looked like that, or did you just take the black out acidentally?
-

As that says, all the characters are being redone. And the reason I just made a new topic instead of updating the old one is because the synopsis is new, and the other topic is like 5 months old. XD But yeah, this is like the fourth one, isn't it? :p
-
I like the Old Ace better. This new one seems very cartoonish. Unless that is the style you're going for, I would say go for it. But in my opinion, he looked better before. Sire too. Screens are still pretty cool though.

Battle System Info? I'm assuming you'll be using DragonBlaze's since you didn't post that yet. If not, what is it?
-
Actually, I'm currently trying something with the battle system. Regardless, it seems unlikely that we'll use DB's CBS.

Rejected...
Meh, my CBS is taking a while, I don't think its smart for any game to 'plan' to use my CBS at this time. Rather, they should plan to use the DBS or another battle system, then once I get my CBS done, they can replace it if they like.
I too like the old Ace better...
-
While we all liked the old Ace, his big overcoat thing always posed an annoyance when it came to posing or artwork. Also, in the latest full character art piece done for him, he had a more similar look to the new charset. Sadly I don't know if the person doing character art for OS is still going to, so I don't even know if I'll be able to use the piece, seeing as I'll have to try and find a new artist and the styles would clash. But alas, the old Ace is just a generated piece, and Warxe and I are working toward more customness and overall nonclashing style of charsets within the game.
-
:(
EDIT: Er, what Ace said.
EDIT 2: Actually, DB, I'm probably be using several of your algorithms in the new CBS to save some time. So your work isn't completely wasted, trust me.
-
My fan art no longer applies! ARGH!
-
Nice maps, seen a couple of threads about this game elsewhere too.
-
Its mainly the hair on ace, I liked the old hair better.

Lol, some of those algorithms are pretty much garbage and need to be remade. The battle damage algorithm for example gives me the results that I want for the heros being at level 20 and having an attack of 50 - 100, but they're pretty much thrown off for other circumstances. So I suggest that if you do use my algorithms, you check them over and test them because they might function right.
I'm curious, what type of battle system do you plan to have then?
-
Um, something more action-oriented. Like the Tales games, but with more focus on movement (ex. multiple levels in one stage, stages with moving parts, etc). That's what I'm going for, at least.
-
So platformer ATB battles?
-
Dude, you need to quit remaking your characters. That's wasting a lot of pose art that OTHER PEOPLE went through for you. Plus, the characters look great as they are. Maybe fred could be changed so he doesn't look so RTP, but really, nothing else should be touched.
-
Yeah, I kinda agree with Meiscool. You'll get a lot more done if you focus on the actual game. I have that problem, I focus too much on specifics and details and end up getting nothing done in the end.
But then again, it is your game. Though I DEFINITELY liked the old Ace better, he looks too much like a 'normal' Warxe now. lol, no offense.
-
There was too much clash, so we decided to do a whole custom charset style for the game. I guess I'll edit Ace's hair, but pose-wise, I'm still using all poses made for him, I just had to trace them into the new charset myself. And I do see what you're saying about focusing on the game itself, but all of these are a part of game making as well. The only character that won't be change, ironically, 'is' Fred. Slimes are too hard to make. <_< I appreciate your criticism though, and don't take any offense to it. :)
-
Now my sig won't work no more. Damn.

I'm still using it, aren't I? :D

Don't match eh?
What do you expect when you use Rudra charasets with RTP-style charas?
EDIT: Actually, I think i'd be pretty kickass if you could make your own Rudra styled sprites. I'd probally be harder then normal, but I've done a few before myself. They usually come out nice.

Nah, the clash occurred with the charsets, mainly. I do realize what you mean though, there is difference between chars and the chipsets, but the clash was occurring with the rudra NPCs and the main chars, so Warxe and I just decided we'd go all out custom so there's no charset clash at all. And yeah, I bet it is really hard to do that style. o.o
-
I never said chipset 0_o.

>_< wow, I don't even know how I mistook that. Oh well, all the same applies. :p

WHY AM I BUMPING THIS THREAD? IT'S A SECRET TO EVERYONE.
-
F*ck me! It's back!
-
My fucking god! I loved this game. Is it back? Is it really?
-
Ask Ace, methinks

Linkforce is here :)
