Title: Animations, Movies, And Questions
Post by: plightofthepureblood on September 19, 2006, 02:20:48 PM
If this is in the wrong Thread, I sincerly apologize to the moderators of this fine site.
***************************************************

So the project Im working on, is intended to be rich in cutscenes.
Not the lame-o cutscenes that play out on a tileset map....

At this point, I have many samaller battleanimations, paired up with some sounds and flashing lights and voice overs.....

I understand that if I had any knowledge on how to Make a Movie file for my game, it would likely accomplish what Im going for with alot more fluidity.

After pondering this, my first thought was to Educate myself in some kind of flash animation software....Make my movie there, and import it.

But you crazy mufukas, as a collective can probably help me refine this Idea...

Do any of you fine folks happen to know of any super easy to use animation software? Or some kind of user-friendly, pimped out powerpoint program?

I really dont know where to start.

Is there any input, suggestions, reccomended program downloads, or general advice any of you have in regards to this?

I dont know how to make flash animations....Ideally Id like to find something thats easy to use.

I may be artistically talented, but I am stupid otherwise. To learn anything complicated takes me forever...Hence my questing for easy to use, user friendly programs.

It would be alot easier if I simply had an Animation slave....where I could Draw some storyboards and tell him to "get crackin'"
But this luxury is not available to me.

Any sugestion is Nice. Advice. Tips.

Hmm. I don't know where this should be, but it's not RM Prog, so I'm putting it in AoA for the time.

As for your question, there are plenty of anim programs out there. Flash is a bit complicated for beginners, but it is the best program out there - of course, there's always other programs like Serif Drawplus that have basically the same functionality.

And if you need help with Serif Drawplus (NOT how to download it or get it free with a registration code, actually how to use it. I'm talking to you Braveheart :p) Then you can ask me anytime.

A good flash animation program is Macromedia Dirrector. I took a multimedia class in school a while back and we used this program to make flash movies, its pretty easy to use and it can do a lot.

Personally, I'd rather go with a 3d movie, because a second rate flash movie looks really stupid. Though I guess the same is true for a 3d movie, its just my personal preferance. If you want to try a 3d movie, go with Maya. I just bought a $50 text book on Maya so I can learn how to use it better.

Back in Highschool, In 97....I used a Mac's "Director 4.0"
And it was a pretty easy to use unit.....Allthough a bit archaic by todays standards.

Id like to eventually learn how to make 3D animations, but with this project, a 2D approach is definatly in order. I think 3D would be a bit out of place in my game.

However, Im going to check out some 3d programs as well, for future use. I'm a freelance artist, and like to have a bit of everything in my portfolio.

Thanks for the Help thus far.....I imagine Ill have more questions posted in this thread as time goes on.
