Title: Undecided Destiny
Post by: GreatNghiaHang on September 27, 2006, 05:41:05 AM
Undecided Destiny is a game set in a world called Tyrius which is formed by mana. Mana is basically a source of energy capable of countless unreal powers they are also contained in every living creatures(yes humans too) but requires potential to use. Many people study the art of mana to help them with either everyday things like stacking shops(which only require a low level) or use mana to help them in combat. Further capabilities with mana requires training and the amount of training needed depends on the power and complexity of the mana.

 Plot of Undecided Destiny:
The storyline of Undecided Destiny revolves around the legend of Exerioh who a thousand ago studied mana and aquired power far beyond imaginations can go. Exerioh's ambition for power required the deaths of countless millions of people on Tyrius. So soon miraculously he was killed.

But as the legend goes Exerioh left behind his children who will inherit his powers recessivley for a thousand years and oneday awaken in what we now call the thirteen descendants of Exerioh. These descendants are destined to become the greatest adversaries to the whole human race and to finish Exeriohs intention, REVENGE on all citizens of Tyrius.

So now it is up to a teenage boy named Hero(you can change the name if want) and his friends which are a team of 5 warriors, a senile professor and a messenger girl to become Tyrius's last line of defence and save Tyrius from complete annihilation.

But to do this Hero must uncover many secrets of the past, become stronger physically and mentally, and aquire the understanding concept of feelings, power and good and evil.

That's it.

So what do you think? Sounds cool right? After completing the demo I'll be releasing Undecided Destiny in 5 seperate parts each one leaving the player in suspense and I tell you the story goes really deep after each 1. So any questions or comments?

Looks good, and only slightly cliche.

So when you say cliche you mean the 13 descendant thing with the human extinction revenge right? because I don't know where I got it from I just came up with it somehow.

Sounds meh. The characters will make or break it.

This sounds like another everyday unoriginal and cliche game. The mana thing is kinda cool, its used in a hand full of games, the evil bad guy is uber cliche, having people come back for revenge or whatever is also uber cliche.

I see plots like this all the time. You should try to think of something very unique if you want yours to stand out.

Backstories.  Might wanna consider 'em.

Don't worry there are some side stories for each characters which explains their motives to join the battle. The part about the 13 descendants was only one part of it too. We soon explore more about the past 1000 years ago with Exerioh and the people he had connections with and how he really died. Hero also had a past covered in mysteries connected with the 13 descendants that we soon also learn.

The whole story is basically full of mysteries and surprises for every characters good and evil. So as I said the 13 descendants are just the start. Remember there are 5 releases (each one withe an average of 8 boss fights) to the game not mentioning the demo the stories has to go deep somehow. And besides each descendants inherit unique powers from Exerioh from fire, death, and mind controlling. So the battles are also quite tactical even for non-13 descendant bosses too.

PS: So just to catch peoples intrests would anyone appreciate it if I post a description of each character too(possible spoilers)? And by the way anymore questions on Undecided Destiny(You'll soon find out why it's called that).

I think it'd be good if you put the bios/discriptions up for the characters. Maybe put a little warning that it contains spoilers at the begining of the post. Chances are, by time you get a game out, no one is gonna remember any specifics anyway.

 Character description
Here I will give the descriptions on each characters age, gender, personality, bio, and specialized power. The * next to each name means the spoiler level rated from 1 - 5. For now I will only put down the Heroes and the major NPC's so if you want descriptions on the villains like the descendants please post a reply.

 Heroes

 Hero (renamable) ***
Age: 15.
Gender: Male.
Personality: Reckless with seemingly no sense of danger. He considers life and death moments as challeges that would satisfy him when overcome. He also understands feelings and what is right and wrong. He also value and protects his friends above all and realises what will happen if he just takes them for granted.
Bio: 5 years ago Hero's hometown was attacked and he was found stranded with Itami. The founders soon adopted them but as time went on Hero hardly remembers anything about the attack which was connected to the 13 descendants. He soon meets up with Reide and the TDT(Check further down) hoping it will lead him to the answer he has been looking for.
Specialised power: With the mana art of wind he can combine it with the swing of his sword to form an attack which spins his sword the surge and velocity of a tornado. This skill is what we call the tornado blade.

 Itami *****
Age: 16.
Gender: Male.
Personality: Brave, strong, smart, good looking, cool and skilled in both the mana arts and swordsmanship. Everything anyone would want huh. He also has very few friends(Hero and Kara) and many enemies. He prefers to do everything on his own even with the company of his friends. He is also very hot headed and really arrogant but he doesn't like to admit that he really cares about his friends.
Bio: Hero's closest friend until he discovers that he one of the 13 descendants which flips their friendship to rivalry. But Itami had no interest in following Exerioh's footsteps he hates being used and the idea that his destiny was decided from birth. He mainly just joined them to wait for a moment of weakness to destroy them. 5 years ago during the attack he promised to his old enemies that he will prove to them (even as spirits) that he can defeat the 13 descendants. Soon he betrays the descendants and once again help Hero out when both of them knows they can't defeat the descendants alone.
Specialised power: With his mana art of fire(Possibly inherited) he can combine it with his ruby blades to use the Burning Sword Blow. When fire is shot through the ruby sword it can fire a heat ray amplified by several thousand degrees bringing everything to destruction but the wielder. although this skill drains a massive amount of mana.

 Reide **
Age: 21.
Gender: Male.
Personality: A professional warrior from the TDT. He is honest, smart, calm and always knows what he's doing. Most would consider him a prodigy because of his gift. He made a promise in the past 9 years ago to commit to his job and to never let his gift go to waste.
Bio: 9 years ago there was a betrayal incident between him and his friends(I'm workin on that) which lead him having to join the TDT. He soon made a promise to someone to never let his gift to waste which motivated him through his missions. Soon he meets Donna and Hero who seem to possess a greater gift than his own and decided to team up and create formidable team.
Specialised power: with his gift he is able to learn new mana skills by simply watching them.

 Donna **
Age: 19.
Gender: Female.
Personality: Considered very attractive by most guys. She enjoys the compliments but gets annoyed when they go too far. She also made a promise long ago so she is able relate with Reide which is why they became a team.
Bio: 8 years ago she made a promise to commit to helping out the TPT when she joined them. She soon meets Reide and finds that they make a good team.
Specialised power: Donna's power consists of most mental conditions and some physical conditions like sleep, confuse and beserk.

 Ben *
Age: 18.
Gender: Male.
Personality: Not so smart, perverted and drives you nuts. Most people don't appreciate him being around. But besides that he has a great sense of love and justice. He also likes Donna in a perverted way.
Bio: When Hero and Itami moved into Detior. He soon somehow became friends with Hero although Itami can't stand him. When he discovers Hero had joined TPT he got jealous and went along too and joined TDT.
Specialised power: His weopon is spear although with his mana he can manipulate earth for mostly defence and some offense.

 Kara ***
Age: 15.
Gender: Female.
Personality: Appearingly pretty and delicate but looks can be decieving. She is more of  fighter than the damsel of distress. She also has a crush on Hero.
Bio: Hero's and Itami's child hood friend she somehow dissapeared after the attack on Wintoh. But Hero meets again when she helps reveal his past.
Specialised power: She uses heavenly mana which is mostly used healing but sometimes offense. Her weapon in combat are her fists.

 Major NPC's

 Dr. Trant *
age: 78.
Gender: Male.
Personality: The professor of TPT. He has incredible knowledge but because of his old age he can go senile and say very crazy things.
Bio: The professor of TDT. We don't know much about him but he helps Hero in some cases.

 Rina  *
Age: 10
Gender: Female.
Personalities: Appearingly sympathysable. It's a pain working with Dr. Trant.
Bio: working part time at the TDT as the messenger girl. But sometimes her boss Dr. Trant just orders her to do anything. Sometimes she seems like the smart one.

TDT: TDT stands for Tyrius Defence Team in a world of mana there aren't many ordinary criminals in fact all the bad guys have mana making it harder to stop them the TDTs are responsible for training warriors in the art of mana and sending them on missions for extra protections for the people.

So anyone have any comments on my characters?

By the way I'm almost done with my demo so in around 2 weeks you can try it for yourself if you like.

PS: for the above for Hero and Itami I only listed the strongest skills so they can use more spells than that.

Demo will be out very soon you should consider trying it.

I put a lot of work in it.

Wait if you have a demo coming out, couldn't you atleast show us some screens of your game now? Some people will only play a game based on screen shots, others don't need them.

Post by: GreatNghiaHang on October 04, 2006, 02:30:54 AM
Well that's the problem at the moment I'm trying to fix up some graphics and I know I shouldn't post it up while it still has some crappy graphics. So yeah you got my point.

Besides that I finished everything else of the demo.
Title:

Well, the story sounds cool, so when you upload it I will play it. Gives me something to do while i jsut sit here.
Title:

Yes! I got the chipsets right. There are only a few small things I need to fix up.

- The characters. I changed some of the RTP characters to some charas recources but not all. I can't find any chara sets sets that match some specific characters and I know it's best off to use the least RTP possible.

- If I have no choice but to stick with a few RTP's I need cool looking battle characters which I'm editing at the moment for Precautions.

And by the how about someone test my game first. I mean this is only the second game in my rpg making career in the past 6 months. I know I put a lot of effort in this game but there are so many what ifs in my head. So I think it's a good idea if one of you could test out my demo and tell me what I might need to fix up before I release it.

Just post a reply and I could mail it to you. I would be really thankful for your help.

Oh wow your characters are all children and teenagers. I love the way some of the bios mention events that happened 'a long time ago' in their past. Like, perhaps they made a promise in kiddy school?

That's my big critisism, I mean, a 21 proffesional warrior that joined when he was 12? A 10 year old working part time for the TDT?

Characters should always be the focus of the rpg, so I suggest re-thinking them a leeetle.

Post by: I Have a Sandwich on October 04, 2006, 06:40:36 PM
Yeah, age is a big deal. DOn't be afraid to make em older. In reality anyone going on a massive quest would most like be late 20's mid 30's.
Title:
Post by: GreatNghiaHang on October 05, 2006, 06:17:25 AM
Well during their journey 4 years do past by between that. So in the ending Hero does become a 19 year old. I decided this to be able to be able to give them enough time to develope and grow strong.

Or how about Hero is 18 at the beginning and 22 at the ending. How do you think of that?

Besides isn't Zidane in ff9 16?
Title:
Post by: GreatNghiaHang on October 05, 2006, 10:46:27 PM
Ok Iam just having a really hard time finding characters which is just about my final step to releasing screenshots or demo's and it's kind of pissing me off. So if you have any chara sets that matches my characters personalities than you are welcome to post it on board. If you generous enough you are welcome to even make a chara set and post it. Okay.

But if you wouldn't mind I may post some screenshots with my current RTP characters. And soon I may give descriptions of a few villains and a few more NPC's.
Title:
Post by: GreatNghiaHang on October 06, 2006, 12:45:33 PM
 Please don't turn off yet.

These are some screenshots of my Undecided Detiny currently in RTP version. I know I should release part 1 to 5 in a more edited version but the demo will be in RTP due to a few problems which hopefully will be fixed.

Although I am thinking of releasing a non-RTP version of the Demo. And when I fix things up I will re-edit the title, chara sets, face sets and battle chara.

The characters and battle characters are RTP, so that's kind of a pity. The tile screen isn't realy impressive either, sorry. I think you have a quit good story, plz don't mess it up because you used RTP's :(
Title:
Post by: GreatNghiaHang on October 07, 2006, 11:13:24 AM
Well the title and battle charasets was just for precaution but I'm not planning to keep it because I am not intending to keep the RTP. But I know we were supposed to hand out screenshots earlier so this is why.

And sorry about not being able to post screenshots earlier for somepeople.

PS: I have to thank crossfire for the non-RTP chipsets.
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on October 07, 2006, 05:24:47 PM
Atleast the RTP use is good. Definitely may want to consider switching to non-rtp. The battle looks boring, sorry. RTP battle graphics just make me yawn. :-/ Your story isn't bad though, and since this is your first game I think you're off to a god start. Here's a few tips.

Find a different title screen. It's simple and easy to find one that's untitled and then put your own title in with paint.

Save your screenshots as .PNG

Change the age of your characters for a few reasons. It's a major cliche, it's unrealistic, and young characters tend to be bitchy and whiny annoying characters.

To answer your question, yes, Zidane is 16.
But he isn't exactly a hero. He's a protagonist antihero.

Post by: GreatNghiaHang on October 08, 2006, 12:12:20 PM
Ok so the search for non-RTP characters are making progress but I also need to find facesets and battle characters to work them.

Now that my demo (RTP version) is complete I will hand it to you guys once I find out how to put it on the net. So when you try it please do try to imagine how great the game will be with non-RTP.
Title:

At long last the first demo of Undecided Destiny is released. The game is RTP so try to imagine how great it would be if it weren't. Ok?

The game kind of starts slow with only one question in Hero's mind but soon builds up after the demo. Oh and I couldn't find a sprite for Hero when he was young.

The demo takes about half an hour and even for me it's quite challenging. Yes the enemies are far weaker than you but after a few battles you may become exhausted.

The Boss of the demo Minotaur kinda has a stradegy behind it and even when I knew it I only defeated it 2/3 of the time. So enjoy and send me your reviews either they are criticisms or compliments.

Download the demo here at http://www.filefactory.com/dlf/f/308423/b/4/h/b61f60e7159bfec5

I played a few minutes your game and then I already was bored :s. It's to cliché in the beginning to still be intrested. Also, you said that this is only a RTP version and that you will update it later. You should have updated it before you brought out the demo  :( .

I'm sorry, but I have to be honest. The game didn't impress me much(even though the musics are good), try making it less cliché and replace the RTP's, that's my advice.
Title:
Post by: GreatNghiaHang on October 10, 2006, 04:34:28 PM
Yeah I said my game starts slow. The beginning is always the hardest part but later on you get the feeling of the plot. And possibly connect with some characters.

Also as we are speaking I am finding non-RTP chara sets for Hero and Itami. So the replacement is making progress.

PS: so by a few minutes how far exactly did you go? Ooops I forgot to remove the save games.

Seriously though.....I took a course on writing when I was younger.....and in the first paragraph of any written story, If you dont "hook" the reader, its going to suck...and most people wont put effort into finishing the effort.

Smae goes with an RPG.....

If your story starts slow, then maybe try a "Flashback/forward" in the intro, and flash to a part of the story that has alot of intesity....maybe a part that would be Confusing, but really intriging....Like somebodys death....a dream.....a battle.......and then slowly drop hints as to what was happening.....this will compell the player to push through the slower parts, and then even if your graphics suck butt, youve still got the player "hooked".

Ill download your demo, and see if I can think of a suggestion or two.

Or not. For some reason its not giving me the option to download.
I dont sign up to services for a one time dl either.....

And it seems like its a pretty large file for being a demo......

Do you have a bunch of voice files in there or something?
Have you deleted the resources you dont have a use for?
Im especially not downloading a file thats 80% unused RTP.....
I already have my own, 100% unused RTP.
Title:
Post by: Jaide on October 10, 2006, 06:30:13 PM
I'm unable to download it either.  It's not giving me the option, and like plightofthepureblood, I don't sign up on sites for a one time download.  But I would definitely play the demo if there were a more readily available way to get ahold of it.

Use megaupload.
Title:
Post by: GreatNghiaHang on October 11, 2006, 04:41:29 AM
Ok so is the file really that large. I'll try and delete some unused RTP to make it easier and the save states. I'll do it as soon as I get home and re-upload the file again.

And about the option to download have you tried scrolling down to where a hyperlink says "download for free with FileFactory basic" and click on it. Then it lead you to a page where you can scroll down again to where it says "Click here to begin your download and click on it.

And finally about the introduction I may be able to rearrange it in the full version. But introductions are kind of like my kryptonite so I'm good at everything else. It is so easy to think of a story and adding things in but thinking of how it should start? (Sigh)
Title:

I will "beta test" in the proverbial sense, as it were, henceforth, whence, asitwere

Ok I think putting up my game too early was kind of a mistake so I'm gonna update my game and post a new thread when I am completely sure it's ready. Ok?
