I'm sure you all don't hate them as much as you say, people just do cause one guy started it, and for some reason people started following his footsteps. And so today you'll pretty much seem like an emo unless you hate them.

I don't mind emos, I think they can be pretty scary sometimes, but I think the whole emo thing has gone over peoples head's. You seem to think a guy is emo just cause he's got dark hair or simply doesn't smile on a photograph. That's ridiculous.

I have a couple of friends who looks like emos but doesn't realize it. And they seem to think the look is cool for some reason. And they are also not emos.

I don't like emos, but I don't hate them either. You shouldn't judge somebody if it's none of your concern, that's what I think anyway.

I don't hate emos because I don't hate depressed people. I find them irritating at times, yes. But I know an "emo" and he's actually pretty nice.

Like the Rob said, it's becoming too cliché and too much of an internet fad. And I blame myself for making my friends dislike emos too =P

If you're actually friends with somebody who have or does cut themselves, it's pretty scary, especially if you really care about them.  A friend of mine did that once and I told her, "Do it again and....  I'll have to kill you so you can't do it anymore."  Or something to that effect.  

As for me, I'm not really emo like everyone says, I'm just the guy no one's ever bothered to get to know.  And before the rest of you go saying crap like 'That's an Emo statement', you need to consider the fact that just about none of you know anything about my personal life, so please without comments unto my supposedly being emo as well.

It's because what you are saying is different.

From what you just posted, I'm guessing you had a depression. Yours seems like a chemical imbalance and you took pills to help. That is chemical. That is a physical problem that needed to be corrected. I can understand this.

Now, just saying life sucks and you want to kill yourself over it. That's different. That's just a personality of a person who gives up to much. That kind of person is, well...disturbing.

I have an aunt who used to be my godmother. She had a first husband, who passed away. They even had a son together. She was remarried on Christmas morning, surrounded by her family. She still has her son, my favorite cousin, and a new daughter. She is prosperous, and lives in a beautiful neighborhood. She should be happy right?

She had once trying to convince my mom to divorce my dad again, even knowing that I and my little brother were trying to keep them together.

There is something important she told my mom that I almost hate her for. I won't post it here.

She just started taking anti-depressants after being married. Recently, we've been having family troubles. My father just doesn't want to deal with his family. My mom (it isn't even her family) has tried to be the mediator.

I have nothing against her. I don't care if she is bisexual (I have another aunt who is a full on lesbian). I still love them both. I just can't understand why

I know I don't have any right to force my opinion on someone else. I'm not narrow-minded at all. Far from it. It's just...not right to hurt yourself. There isn't a good enough reason out there to me. An escape from pain, there's no such thing to me. This is just one of those things where you need to talk to someone. If I can get a good reason of why someone would hurt themselves, then I'll change my mind.

I feel kind of strong about this. Now I feel like an emo.

Let me begin with this....
I dont cut myself.
I used to....But only when my mental state was so f*#ked up that It seemed like a good Idea. And During these times, I was usually institutionalized. Schizophrenia is a crappy thing to come down with. And it tends to happen to Males in their Mid-late teens.
Before any of you judge me for this, keep in mind, I was lirerally NOT in the reality I live in today. Ive since had much treatment, and after 5 years of crap thats simply too heavy to get into I can look back on the events and peole I met with the eyes of a sane, objective person....What I noticed about cutters is as such:

Cutting oneself is not a symptom of Depression.....

Its Either A-A subversive way to get attention. An extreme action of aloof mellowdrama.

B-Any of a number of Psycosis (look it up)

It usually starts out as the first......
   If any of you are old enough to get or havehad tattoos (and im not talking about little tattoos.....) You would be familiar with the Endorphine rush envolved with this sort of Pain.
This is what keeps cutters cutting.
Its a Buzz. Its your body's own painkiller....and when its delivered correctly to your system, it creates a pleasantly Euphoric buzz. I see this Alot in my Line of Work Currently, and also Through my experiences with the Mental Health System.

This tends to Begin Happening to Teenagers. Thats not to say adults dont cut themselves...but the habbit is usually formed in the teenage years.

Commonly in alot of teenagers, various forms of anxiety disorders, schizo-spectrum disorders, and Manic/Depressive disorders...subject will need attention......and this is a accessable route.
However, This need for attention often passes, relatively quickly...
But because of the Endorphines released in the practice...the  practice of using these endorphines to deal with less-than-desirable mental states, is a more accessable, and much easier route than keeping with a proper medication regiment, or even initially seeking help in the first place.
Like with any addiction though, after time, one develops a chemical tolerance....so the cuts get bigger....worse....And it becomes an Obsessive behavior.

Hence, Habbitual Cutting.

And "Emo", the word, contrary to popular belief, does not come from the word "Emotion".
It comes from the words "Emotive New wave" in reference to the Emotive Punk Movement of the early/mid eighties.

Most of you use the term in correctly, myself included....This is because it IS indeed a Fad to make fun of Emos. Its a common Omega for the Alphas and Betas to Ostracise.

I think most people make fun of Emos because their entire subculture is based on Whining and Crying for attention.
So If I make fun of an EMO for cutting.....Im not trying to belittle cutters so much as draw attention to the fact that most people see right through the subculture/cry for help. Lets face it.....If you need to get your Point across....getting in somebodys face is not going to do it. Thus, streaking black hair and wearing the eyeshadow is just a more 'millenial' form of Goth. Its a bit more contemporary is all. And I dont appreciate being referred to as a conformist, simply because I dont want to Stand out like a sore thum in any crowd.

Besides, for all of their Hatred for Conformity, these kids......
You go to a Concert with an "Emo" Band playing there....
Its like theyre in uniform anyhow.
Theyre still just as conformist as the rest of Us.

Sorry, I still must disagree. I'm bipolar, and I've had some really low lows, where I have tried to kill myself, but I never tried cutting, because I never could understand the point. I suppose since its bipolar I don't need a supply of Endorphine to get me up, since I will eventually reach the up again. Either way, I still think that cutting is un-necessary. But then, I came to terms with my bipolar and went to the doctor on my own. I suppose I can just handle it better... or something.

Emos are nondepressed people that exaggerate any hint of depression they have. I have known plenty of people diagnosed with depression and ****, the didnt cut themselves, wear black, rant about the suckage of life. If an emo stuibs his toe, he will act like it was some monumental pain he had to suffer, and act as if he got shot. Emos are annoying assholes. Nuff said.

It's a symptom of a devloping psychosis resulting from the constant lows of clinical depression. Bi-polar people have a manic peroid, I was always low. It causes you to lose the ability to make the distinction between the real and unreal, and have bizarre thought patterns. Mine equated physical pain as a release of emotional pain.

I'm beter now, and I'd never do it again.

Now they were both given pills from their doctors, but the girl I use to hang with ended up in the mental place, and my friend he went into times when he was depressed and started cutting himself again (I've spoken with him before about it, and he actually stopped for a while). After he stopped messing around with the meds, he was fine.

 But after I graduated, I've been told from one of our friends that he started cutting himself again because he's lonely and he's a nobody now. Which makes me go, is he seekin attention? Like I know he has issues. EVERYONE has issues, but like com'on? As for the other chick, she dropped outta school and my guess is she's out whorin and so forth.

I would think one would be happy to simply be alive and not have any true handicaps... If an Emo Person is missing one of their senses, (Blind or Deaf) i could not blame them for being depressed... Being blind would be the worst thing ever...

Maybe i dont get it because i have a pretty happy life, My dad is nice to me, i have alot of friends that like me for who i am, and i wrestle (waits for stupid gay jokes about wrestling)

Ah, well, as I had thought, since I only have short periods of depression it's not as bad for me.

And Silverstein DOES suck. I saw them at Warped Tour, and they were awful. I don't mind their recordings, but man, they are awful live.

Since we're talking about depression now, I guess I'll throw this into the mix.. I have bipolar disorder. That's a legitamite medical condition, not being grounded. Anyways, even when I was really bad, like a couple years ago, I didn't turn into a pussy and self-mutilate. Anyways, I'm on medication now.

There's no philosophy about a persons personality. It's either like-able, or not like-able.

I have plenty of "emo" friends that I enjoy hanging with because of their personalities, but then again, they arn't true emos. They call themselves emo because of the clothes they wear and consider themselves rebels, not because they are deeply depressed, anti-social, bitchy, and often self-damaging.

I hate true emos, because I am the polar oppisite of depressed and anti-social. I'm a generally happy and pacifist guy that craves interaction, be it via forum, IM, online game, life, sports, movies, whatever. I've almost always got to be talking to someone...

I was disliking emos before it was "cool" purely because of their bitchiness, so I don't do it because it's a "trend". However, because it's a trend now, it does make it a lot easier to make jokes about them without any of my friends getting offended.

Sometimes I'm really joyful and antagonistic and sarcastic, sometimes I'm OVERLY happy(like, a lawyer-ish creepy happy) and I take things literally and sometimes don't do what I'm supposed to do(like when the class was really loud the teacher said,"QUIET DOWN! You didn't yell in your other classes, did you?" unto which I had replied,"I did." "Who made that smart-alec comment?!" "Me!"(in a happy monotone)), and sometimes I'm depressed beyond emos.(But I don't cut myself or anything, I just think.)

...And I've been self-diagnosed with autism.(Asperger's. Yes, I'm mentally retarded, but I'm a genius.) Weird the is yes says me.
