Title: Yay, more bomb threats
Post by: DragonBlaze on October 14, 2006, 02:59:45 AM
So yeah, my school has had 3 bomb threats in the past 3 weeks. We're not allowed to bring backpacks or any kind of bags to school anymore. If we are tardy for class, we get an in school suspension. We can't go to the bathroom during classes, IF its an emergency, the assistant principle will escort us to the bathrooms. Lets see, what else. Oh yeah, no coats, no wearing hoods. We can't bring cell phones, mp3 players, or any other electrical devices. Before we could have them, but we couldn't have them out or use them, now we can't even bring them or we get an in school suspension or something.

So yeah, this sux. One more bomb threat and we can't drive to school and they'll take away our spring break or some other days off.

Bomb threat! Kids might bring bombs to school. So let's cut their vacation time so they're at school EVEN MORE.

I don't see the logic. :P

They could spend spring break.. making bombs.. or something..
Yeah, my school got a bomb threat once, but it was some dick trying to get out of school for a day.

My school's scared because all the other schools are getting bomb threats, shootings, etc...
The last time we had a gun at the school was like... 15 years ago. o_o
The old principal kicked his *** for having it. My band director saw it all when he was going there! :D

Dude. You should so fill a backpack with speakers and put it 200 ft outside school grounds and call one in from a pay phone XD

Post by: DragonBlaze on October 14, 2006, 03:23:06 AM
Well the bomb threats we have are written on the bathroom walls, since a lot of people go into the bathrooms, and there are no cameras in the bathrooms, theres not much they can do. They've tried interviewing all the people who have gone into the bathroom in question and testing their hand writing, but they haven't found anyone. Twice they found the message in the guys bathroom, this last time, it was in the girls bathroom.

Our school is offering a $1000 reward for information. It costs them $100,000 to $300,000 to call the bomb squad into the school and check it out each time.

And it kinda sux, the first time we got the bomb threat, it was like 12:30. The second time it was after school, and thursday, it was 1:30. We're hardly missing any school with these, but we're having days added on.

The reason people are doing this is because they hate the school and its rules. In return, the school adds more rules and makes people hate it even more. In return, other stuff happens. It just keeps getting worse and worse.

No one can blow up a school.
They might come in and shoot up the place a little, so just.. stay out of the lobby.

No backpacks and no coats? Man, I'd just say screw the school. I'm not hauling three or four books by hand through the freezing winter.

Everyone at my school wants to beat the **** out of whoever is doing this. So I'm not too worried that I'll get the **** beaten out of me if I find and report the guy/girl who did this, cuz I would basically have the whole school backing me up.

As for carrying things around. I only have two text books, and 3 notebooks to worry about. I can stick the notebooks in a binder as well as my papers. My pencils and stuff I can just keep in my pocket (I do that anyway). As for the books. Me and a few friends decided to share lockers. That way we can place things in differant areas of the school. My locker is in the science wing, so some people are puting their science stuff in my locker, my gfs locker is in the math wing, so I'll be puting my math book in there. It should work pretty good.

Hopefully this won't go on for too long. I'm guessing if they find the people who did this, they won't keep these rules up much longer.

That's really gonna suck for you, Dragonblaze, if this keeps up until winter.  You claim to live in Wisconsin, so if you're not allowed to wear coats or hoodies, then.....  you're proper fucked.

As for my school, they treat a power outage more seriously than a bomb threat.  For a power outage, they take us all outside, if it's warm, and try and 'fix' the problem.  For a bomb threat, they just send a letter to all the parents with the students.  My school can't really afford to call the bomb squad....  we're 1.8 MILLION in the hole.....  *Expletive words*

Hope they catch those muthafuckahs at your school, though.  Those rules really suck.

Damn, that does suck. Lucky you don't live in a place that's even colder... like here. Geez, I know it's a Canadian stereotype, but it's October and it's been snowing...

I think I had 3 bomb threats during my entire high school time. They were always done by some stupid pothead who was just trying to get out of class. Morons...

And Plight... wtf, I had some respect for you, until that post in this thread and some of your later posts in the Bonk thread. I hate to say it, but I agree with Drace, from now on, you're ignored.

I tend to not give a **** about the schools warnings. We're in "Code Yellow status" throughout the school. I dont even know why. I do know that the principal got punched in the face recently by a student though. Appearently it means I have to have my ID out and visible at all times and also random backpack searches where they take all your cool **** and leave your books. I believe they got me once with an iPod and a PSP in my bag. I snatched my **** back and told them where to go. Best 5 days of OSS ever. I generally dont let them take my ****, cause everyone knows you dont get it back.

Plight uses pacifiers.

Wait, random backpack checks? Did you agree to those checks? Because that's invasion of privacy if you didn't agree to it, and you could sue the school. I should sue the school for a lot of things, but then I'd have to go to a FECALIER school. And we have to have our IDs out all the time, too. I don't, but if a teacher starts checking, I'm putting it on for... About the next five minutes.

Seriously, sue the school.

Cool, I remembered to pre-censor my post!

We have random backpack searches, but its at the front gate. So if you refuse, they don't ket you into school. So you get like a $200 fine for truancy. Then we gotta wear ID's around lanyards too. And now because some dumbass freshmen decided to start throwing bottles of soda at people, we can't buy bottled drinks on campus.
Title:
Post by: Osmose on October 14, 2006, 11:40:45 PM
I don't know if it's different in other states or countries, but I know that at least in Florida schools have the legal right to search you, your posessions, or your locker at any time as long as they are on campus. It might even apply to the surrounding areas - I know that the school has first jurisdiction over punishing any student found commiting a non-felony within 1000 feet of the school.

I don't bring my DS to school, since my only classes that do not have work in them are computer classes, and my iPod counts as a USB drive since it's a Shuffle, and we're allowed to have those at school, although they may be subject to a search: One kid left his in a computer and they found pictures of him holding a gun to a girl's head in it.

Plus, it's a national law that you are allowed to have a cell phone with you at school, although the school can restrict you from actually using it and can make you silence it or put it on vibrate. So I'm good on all accounts.

Post by: aboutasoandthis on October 15, 2006, 12:19:31 AM
I still hate the uniforms, and the IDs with the lanyards, but I like how the school is designed. We don't have just one big building. It's spread out into 20, and we've got over 2500 kids. It's pretty safe aside from fights, and we don't even have that many anymore.

There's a rumor about how there was a school shooting years ago, but the gunman could only shoot one person because it's so easy to get away. Plus, we've got lots of security.

Which reminds me. There are a lot of kids getting caught sneaking in the bathrooms to use their phones. They mostly call OTHER PEOPLE IN THE SCHOOL. wtf?

Locker checks are legal, since you're using school property. We're allowed to have cell phones in school, but if they're seen, heard, or anything that makes them noticable, they're confiscated. What the SEXUAL INTERCOURSE?! Why give out a privilege, but threaten to confiscate if that privilege is used?

Lol pre-censor!

Our security blows. Its a bunch of old men and like 2 really old ladies. I remember that the school principal was outside greeting people in and inside the building these 2 kids got into a fight. It lasted so long a student actually broke it up because someone was REALLY going to get hurt if it continued like that. Then afterwards security comes to walk around like they're doing something. Ah the securitY guards with the reaction time of the GODS.

Dealing weed in my school is like...not rare. I remember one kid got caught with Vodka in his gatorade bottle.

I would advise him to POUR OUT THE COKE and then pour in the vodka. No dipshits at a school are gonna check what someone drinks.

Good idea, except scotch does look like diet coke, and teachers will actually smell a bottle if their suspicious. It happened in health one day. Guy had bottled water and vodka. Teacher knew and sniffed it.

Holy charmap, Archem.

Last year some girl got caught with vodka in a waterbottle. Other than that there hasn't really been a problem bringing alcohol into school.

Our APs are mad awesome. They actually do stuff and do it well. They're like ninjas.

My school says stuff like "No visible cellphones, no iPods, no Gameboys, etc. etc." But it's usually up to your teacher, and my teachers don't really care as long as work is getting done. I can listen to my iPod in Physics as long as I'm doing the worksheet.

It used to be like that for some of my classes, but since they're cracking down on the rules, if word gets out that a teacher let us use a cell phone or psp or something, the teacher will get in deep ****, where as before, they may have just got a warning or something.

And we can bring coats to school, we just have to keep them in our locker all day. That part really isn't that big of a deal for me, but a lot of people like to wear their coats around school (we have a lot of hicks that like to wear their jackets around school), and yeah, they can't do that anymore.

Lets just say that sometimes our heating system doesn't work too well. Some of our classrooms, such as our chemistry and pysics classrooms, were added onto the school after the school was built. THey're just sticking out there, and they can get REALLY cold. Some of our classrooms in the math wing (oldest part of the school) and some upstairs don't really get heated well either.

Time to switch schools?

Is it true you can't choose your school in the U.S. unless you move?

We had a lock-down the other day, but it was only a test. Basically, we all just ended up sitting in the corner with the lights off and talking about random stuff, since the lockdown took about an hour out of class. Someone asked "If there are twins that aren't born yet- can one of them eat the other one?"

Sad thing is they were serious.

Yeah, but anyways, I think the fact that we have to practise what to do if an armed maniac shoots up the school is pretty sad. But maybe it's what we get for not having air-raid drills. It's a funny time when you start having to have tests to protect you from your own people.

Sorry but I have no sympathy for that point. When you're at a school that makes you wear a skirt in the Canadian winter, then you can complain. It takes me an hour to get to school, and I'm doing it in knee-socks. So  I win.  ^_~

This is what it's like where I live. This is how I ended up transfering to my new school.

My family moved into a rental home that was still in my hometown. I spent a year going to the Junior High School there and was expected to go to the High School.

As it turns out, the landlord switched his property taxes to another town.

The rules here state that if you control all payments going to your children's school, you get to pick the school. Since my parents did not control the Property Taxes, I had to go to the school where they were being spent, even though my parents were paying the other stuff (Tuition, Books, Yearbook, etc.).

I don't know how it's at where DB lives. Like Mid said, it be kinda pointless since he can graduate after Christmas.

That's true to some extent. It depends on where you live, but if there're multiple schools in the same area, or if there're private/catholic/something else schools, you can choose which one to attend. But it's usually set in stone.

Or you could be home schooled.

Actually, you can. You just have to fill out alot of paperwork. When I was about to go into elementary school, my parents didn't like the school in the town (It was a small town with a crappy school), so I went to the school in Tyler which was an hour away. Same thing in Middle school, technically we lived in Denver, but my mom wanted me to go to one in Littleton, and I wound up going there.

As long as you don't notify the school of your address change there is no way for them to know that you're not supposed to be going there - I stayed in the same school system while moving into two different districts over the space of two years because they were not notified of our address changes.

Eventually we moved back into the district since my parents saw I was dead set on staying in the district - moving to a different state in middle school sucked way too much for me to want to do it again.

They actually cared about your opinion? I was in three districts in middle school (1 in Texas, 2 in Colorado) and moved to California in my freshman year (from Colorado). Lucky you.

Actually, my school is being stupid, so I don't know if I'll be able to graduate after chirstmas anymore. For sure though I'll only have to go to school for a half a day, and half of that time I'll be on the computer.

And yeah, I can't really switch schools. I had a choice to go to a public or private lutheran school (I chose the public one). But yeah, IF I would switch now, I wouldn't be able to get enough credits in the bible study area in the one semester I'd be there. But yeah, I can't chose what public school I want to go to unless I get a fake adress or something, and that would just be stupid to do at this point.

The paperwork way... Thats too much work, and if I switch now, I may not have the required credits at the new school.
