Title: Chronicles of Genia Comic. New stuff. Episode 4.2 posted
Post by: plightofthepureblood on October 31, 2006, 01:42:20 AM
This is the first strip of ten. The mini-series is meant as an introduction to the storyline of my game project, which has recently had to be restarted.

Rather than animate all of this again, In 2 dimensions, Ive decided to make a serial comic strip. Much of the series of the COG is already put into short story form, and I always had plans to one day make a graphic novel installment. So it only made sense to have a Graphic serial prequel. Its easier for me....and hopefully i can use this as a kind of storyboard trailer to get non rpgmaker community people interested in playing the game.
Its hard to read, and I apologize

Its nothing spectacular, but its in much better taste than my other strip. The imagry is super simple, as its meant to fit the style of graphics in the project.

I hope you enjoy it. I should have another made within the week.
It took me about 2 hours to make this, I used the storyboard i made for the old COG intro.

By the time this is finished, I hope to have a small playable demo of my game ready.....

please give input...

Episode four is in the early stages.
At this point, some aspects of the storyline are changing.
Im wingin' it in some parts.
And its going slowly right now.
Bear with.
In a week or two, Ill have a Graphics Tablet, and The whole thing will come along quickly.
But im going to be offline alot more, so the progress will be slower still, but when updates are posted, more will be added at a time.

That text is rather difficult to read.

ugh.....let me try to post it as an attachment rather than a link. I jacked down the color to 256......hopefully that will make it a decent size.

Bad ***.

Page one of three from Episode 2

I personally think you have too much text-per-panel, but I thinks it's cool how they have neither eye nor mouth details.
Title:
Post by: plightofthepureblood on November 04, 2006, 05:32:16 AM
I had a similar thought about the text.....

Point taken...Ill have to keep that in mind for the next page.

In the beginning of it, there is alot of dialogue....perhaps if I found a way to tone town the balloons?

In an episode or two, its a whole lot of action....less talk.....more rock.
Title:
Post by: Cosmos on November 04, 2006, 05:33:57 AM
The first one was so light.. and the text tends to be fuzzy from time to time, but other then that I like it.
Title:
Post by: plightofthepureblood on November 04, 2006, 05:36:08 AM
I was really trying to make the text easier to read in this one. Thanks Mid. 8)

The comics themselves are kind of big.
I'm not a fan of the extreme close-ups.

edit: I'm noticing colour information loss.
You should save all your files with something like ultimate paint (http://www.ultimatepaint.com/).
Title:
Post by: plightofthepureblood on November 04, 2006, 05:39:50 AM
Actually yeah....theres color loss here. The origionals are good for color. I toned em down to 256 because it was taking forever to attach
Title:
Post by: Archem on November 04, 2006, 05:40:37 AM
The female character kinda freaks me out... Not sure why. And yeah, it's good, but a little cluttered with text and close-ups.
Title:
Post by: plightofthepureblood on November 04, 2006, 05:42:12 AM
Lol.

Well, I was hoping she would put out a "Butch" Image.

Im enjoying the input. Learning curve, and stuff.ld it be better if I made shorter strips?

A thought.....And Input would be nice....
Instead of large 11X14 pages, would it be better if I made shorter strips?

Well, maybe have smaller panels and less text per panel? So instead of one with four bubbles, have 3 with 5 or whatever.
Title:
Post by: MrMister on November 04, 2006, 06:36:58 AM
I know WHY you changed it to 256 colour, but you can have it as a 256 without making it look like garbage. By using a program that.. isn't.. paint?
Title:
Post by: plightofthepureblood on November 04, 2006, 09:01:03 AM
this is the second page. Of the Second Part

Sorry guys, its still pretty text-rich I have one more page about this size with about this much text, and then its all pretty much dialogue free for the most part.

I tried to dumb it down a bit, color wise, in accordance to the wise Mr. Mister.

I didnt use a different program, but I did lay off the lighting effects and the speckling.

Aside from the text, does it look better/is it easier to look at?
Title:
Post by: plightofthepureblood on November 04, 2006, 05:07:57 PM
and the last page.

It should be the end of the huge amounts of text.

Next episode...they meet the other character, the one in the photo.

Some fights.
Some mountain climbing.
Some creepy gore.

3-5 pages.

Anyhow, thanks for bearing with me on this.

Bearded man with sunglasses is cool.
The comics are easier on the eyes now, too.

Thanks man. Im glad to hear its easier to look at.

The bearded man, in the game and the comic here, plays a big role...But in the WHole of the COG series, the "plight of the pureblood" episode is the only one hes in.

His name is Troy Hoen. Hes like an old ex-adventurer. He gets right manic at times, and other times, hes overtly serious.

He has prosthetic legs, and wears the glasses from old injuries, which, in the game, he rambles on and one about....gets carried away. (when hes in a good mood.)

Hes one of my Favs. Brown, the dude in the picture, is pretty cool too. You'll meet him next Episode. Bad...asp...

So now youve at least seen most of the Characters in the serial strip.

There are two others.....

Jimmy Vargus, the groups Mechanic/Engineer, and Brown, the Mohawked elven dude in the photo.

Ive decided that after Im done making all of these particular strips, Im going to be editing all of my shat punctuation and spelling before releasing it all for good copy on a Website.

Thanks for pointing it out. Ill make a note of it.

On the bright side of this, Ive got a friend in Vancouver, who happens to be An Arts Managment Ninja...Hes taken some intrest in the story and style, and we're in the very earliest stages of planning an actual published, release of this, which is awesome. He is a techers aid for a graphic arts course, or something along those lines....Hes got Students, of art-stuff.

So uh....A collaboration on this project is in the early works.
Were thinking of getting the process started early in his January Semester, if not In the fall semester after.

Its a bit early to announce anything for sure, but this is really sweet.
Ive been playing with this idea since I was 13, and ALWAYS wished I had some help with it...to turn it into a graphic Novel (Not the plight of the pureblood episode though...thats a supplementary installment), and now it looks like its an actualy possibility.

Im pretty stoked on the idea. But its still quite far off.
Damn, drinkin import beers with hipster Art students is looking like it may start to pay off.

Yay.

And Yay for MS paint.

Nice job on the latest one. The art and layout really is awesome. That is, however, the only selling point, the characters and story is pretty flat so far. We'll wait and see.
Title:

the story picks up right away.

Next page things get interesting.

New character introduced.

I will say no more.

Here is the next page in Episode 3.
about 2 more pages left.
Title:

DAMMIT. I KEEP FORGETTING TO ATTACH! YARRGH.
Title:
Post by: Archem on November 08, 2006, 09:14:47 PM
Quite interesting. The characters seem a bit, uh, blocky around the edges in the last two, though. Other than that, I like this.
Title:
Post by: plightofthepureblood on November 08, 2006, 09:17:59 PM
Uggh....you're right too. I used grey outlines, and slacked on the resizing and filters....Point taken man. Thanks.

I will make up for recent slacking with the next page.
Storlyine-wise, Graphic-Wise, and action wise

Im purchasing a graphic tablet sometime in the next few months.

Il will destroy the universe when I get that lil bitty.
Mouse drawing is lame.
Title:

this is the third.

Im anticipating two more pages in this episode.

Edit: Im still editing the little imperfections in lettering and stuff
Title:

I'll admit, I don't much like the comic, but I do enjoy the effort you've put into your art. Simple, yet effective, shading and realisitc looking characters make it nicer to look at then most comics.
Title:
Post by: plightofthepureblood on November 09, 2006, 04:36:12 AM
Im glad you appreciate the effort dude. Thanks.

I should have the next two strip for this particular scene done by tomorrow evening.

the next two, and this one, really start introducing more plot twists.
More plot. There hasnt been a terrible amount of plot yet...

God, it's like watching a movie that's downloading REALLY slowly. You try and watch as much as you can, but it just won't come quick enough.

My only problem still is the page layout. It's just like it almost hurts my eyes. But as I said, I do love the style.
Title:
Post by: plightofthepureblood on November 09, 2006, 06:27:35 AM
Is this any better, with the background toned to a darker shade?
Title:
Post by: ZeroKirbyX on November 09, 2006, 06:35:30 AM
Much better, actually. The other way I think the white bubbles on white bg wa straining.

Nice. What do you use?
Title:
Post by: plightofthepureblood on November 09, 2006, 09:32:57 PM
MS paint for everything but the lighting and resizing. For that I use paintshop.

But Im about to have photoshop to mess with in uh.....ten minutes...

So I may test that for the strip im making tonight.

All mouse-made.

Im excited for my graph. Tablet

Hehe, blood effects.
So in the game I guess that is just another battle, but battles look so much better in comics and movies.
(not including ToS cutscenes when people in the party attack someone/something)

So will you post the rest of your episodes then Plight?
(we really need something to call you dude, to hard to choose what part of your name to use.)
Title:
Post by: plightofthepureblood on November 10, 2006, 07:59:33 PM
lol. plight is fine. So is Ben. Or Gem (from the old account "gemini").

the comics are being made. I would post them all if they were all done.

The comic here, is a storyline prequel to the game itself.

In the origonal project, before the hard drive crash, and windows XP, it was intended to be just a battle...

tonight i hope to have the first page of episode four done. That will start to pique some questions of the story...and then its all back to the first panels dream sequence.

When the comic concludes, the project begins.

As for the project itself, Id like to have unlockable comics within the story....and perhaps have the boss fights made into comics, that would be unlocked also.

Sweet, an in-game comic collection that shows special events in a comic style...

I just might be stealing you idea there Gemm, Monster list, Ability list, Comic collection and a Character chart. Yeah that would be something different.

Well I guess Iīll just be waiting for the rest of the comics then.

Keep it in your own pace Gemm.

lol. It was hard to get his point across to the point I wanted, while still making him enigmatic.

He comes into serious play in the story in a few strips from now And then its crouching tiger ninja fights and then its time magic shifting ninja blood-turtle man action.

In the origonal animations of that dude, her has the voice of a child...the voiceover makes him really kindof creepy....

Ive been slacking lately. And trying to figure out a new way to tell this part of the story. So im going to ease into it, and use some filler, as it were.

this one is nothing special, but i needed to forshadow some stuff.

More will come eventually, but right now real life is hectic.
Ill be buying my graphics tablet in a week, perhaps less.

unfortunatly, ill be around a helluvalot less in 7 days time. but ill be sure to post it when it comes.

The pending graphics tablet is another reason for my recent lapse.
The calibre of art will be going up dramatically when i get that unit, and id like to save some of the upcoming crazyshat for that.

Anyhow, heres the next snippet from episode four. Its pretty plain compared to the others though.

EDIT:Sorry dudes. the text is crappy. I resized it poorly.

Oh, how this Red Vine dipped in melted Tootsie Roll rollercoaster grinds deep into the surface of Pangea, making twist after twast to take us into a level of the human's subconcious only tapped by the insane, and occasionally resulting in such twisted statements as the one in the present. Also known as this one.
