Remembrance DAy. I figure other countries might have it the same day not sure. I had family who thought in the Great Wars, and I had family who were there during. My great-nan was a child, and was there during the Battle of Britain. The jewish side who would marry mine, lost all the richers they had when Germany began hunting the jews. They took refuge in England. My great-grandad was said to have watched the Bismark sink, and (not direct revelative, but relative all the same) my famous great uncle Wing Commander Penrose Gibson was the leader of the daring Damn Bombers. Finally, my great-grandad (other side) cleaned up the ruins og Germany.
I'm not too sure though on my biological families side. They were Germans, so I could of had Nazi soldiers for relatives.
I'll be at work that day, however, when the time comes, I will stop for that minute in silence.
How many people are gonna do anything for it, or have relatives who were in the wars (or any war for that matter?)

Yes, its here in Canada as well.
I guess this year is a good one to heed this holiday if ever there was.
In the spirit of all of the wars, and now especially with rumsfeld stepping down. Its a good year to Honor the fallen.

We call it Vetrans Day in America.
Same concept, so same holiday I 'spose.

My Grandpa was in a war or something. God knows which one.
-
Uh, yeh. No school on it either. Lessee...
Great Uncle to some extent- US Civil War. I think Union, which sucks
Grandpa- WWII. I think he was an old OSS agent or somethin. Died like... 30 years ago, not from war
Uhh... Thats all I know of.

My Grandpa was in a war. The korean war. :D
-
Mine was, too. But I don't know which war, he died when I was younger. Not like one or two, but like fiveish years old. I think it might have been the Korean War...
-
No we donīt have any days like that, just the religous days like easter, christmas and those stuff...
Completly different but my great.grandmother(or whatever thatīll be) was born before the WW1 and lived during the second one. She lost two of her brothers during the first war thus she lived in America back then, after the war she and the rest of the family went back home to Sweden.
And well she is still alive...How old is she now...Well um about 97 or something...
But no, no family of mine has taken any part of any war, Sweden is a neutral country with like no military at all, so it would be suicide to enter any war... And of course um... We love our friendship so we donīt want to ruin it by chosing side.

Yeah it's rememberance day, Saturday. I always cry at Rememberance Day Mass when they show all the slideshow things with the sad music. In choir we all sing a really haunting arrangement of Flanders' Fields. If I had an mp3 I'd post it, because I'm sure it would make everyone cry.
It's a really big deal at my school, and I think more than anything these past few years when we're all affected by wars we can't really control. It's a horrible feeling when you know you're basically on a car with a crazy driver who won't listen to anyone unless everyone can throw him out.
On a side note:
My grandmother was involved in the war. When she was growing up, the Japanese attacked her village. They took all the babies and threw them into the air and caught them on bayonets, they speared pregnant women in the stomachs, raped a bunch of people, beat up, stabbed, shot and killed lots of men.
She managed to escape getting hurt, by wearing boys' clothes, covering her face in soot and then hiding in their farm.
A few years after she moved to the capital. And on the way back from bombing Japan, the Americans bombed Manila (not Nuclear. And I'm not sure if it was literally "bombed" or just attacked).
She went through a lot so I have a lot of respect for her.
I'm not trying to spread hate. I'm just saying what happened.

I've read alot of stories about what the Japanese did.. its very frightening and scary.
I find that I cry when I think asbout my family. Not out of sadness, out of a pride. I really can't explain it.

Yer I lost mine too :(
