Charas Breakout DX
The countdown

[Beta 14] (http://www.multiverseworks.com/charas/breakout/BreakoutDX_BETA14.html)

Welcome to the Charas Breakout DX topic, a topic about the Charas Breakout DX game, due to come out December 25th, if I at least reach the deadline. This topic is made for two reasons:

1: The old topic (http://charas-project.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=14705&forumid=12&catid=6&page=1) got messy. I'm going to ask a moderator or administrator to lock the topic, since it is now obsolete.
2: I desperately need your help now.

Here I will update the developement of the game, which you can find at the production log (http://multiverseworks.com/mvwboard/news.php?bid=44&standalone=1), but that one is kind of obsolete since I don't update it very frequently.

But what is Charas Breakout DX?
Charas Breakout DX is a deluxe version of Charas Breakout. Charas Breakout actually is a breakout with physics. Because of this physics, the ball can often drop, especially considering the size of the character. That's why it's an alternate version.

It works like this. In the first four stages you will just have to break the blocks. Once every block has been broken, you'll proceed to the next level. However, if you don't manage to break every block, but you do have at least 50% of all the blocks broken, you can still pass to the next level.

At the end of each round time gets deducted or added, depending on how fast you cleared the level. This is crucial because the time you get at the end of level 4 is the time you'll get to clear the boss level at level 5. After level 5 the time gets reset. If you however don't manage to clear the boss level, it's game over.

What makes this game so special?
It's Charas, that's why! Plus, you'll get to play with many members of the Charas community. Another thing is the playing style and the special rules set.

Why and how do you need our help?
It's simple. I can't do everything on my own. I have less than 1.5 month to finish the game, so things get really tight now.

To help me, it's simple. You can give me some ideas for the game and such. I won't use all ideas, since there isn't much time, but I will take them in consideration.

Also, on occasion, I will need to ask you to do things for this game. The main thing is to test the betas I'll post, but there might be more.

More coming soon...

well, if it will help, I would Beta test, if need be.

It would be easier to give ideas if I had a direct point of reference.

Anyhow...if you need my help, my msn is knives_are_quiet@yahoo.com

I'll help however I can, good sir.

I can help with the odd sprite, or graphic type unit thingies too. Im good with that sort of thing. Backgrounds....animations...title graphics...

God I love it when you return, Gary.

The pirate boss, for some reason, constantly appears after the level you fight it. Makes the game rather hard.

I got the same problem as Bluhman when playing the Beta 12 version.

And I love all the power-ups! Well exept for that one black thing....But still.

Spend some hours playing this, taking care of the sprites was fun (but the pirate ship was quite annoying cuz' of the bug) and well second time I had a face off with the Piracy, I lost...

Well great work Gary! You are the man in loads of areas across the net.

[BETA13] (http://www.multiverseworks.com/charas/breakout/BreakoutDX_BETA13.html)

BETA 13 is now released.

It includes two new characters, which I won't reveal to you, since they are super secret. However, if you know the cheats, please don't reveal the secrets.

Anyway, the bug is also fixed, and I'm working on an addon for the Piracy boss, so that it would be more challenging.

Finally, added the password for the bitmaps.

A small question: What does trevlac do? He has some bonus effect, but I don't know what it does...

Still awesome.
Piracy is a little easy, maybe the cannonballs should shoot the helmet in a random direction when they collide :/

I was planning on adding something for it, to explain its effects. You can expect to see all the effects at the trophies section, though. But just to look it up, it's called speed trade. It currently does nothing, but when it's implemented, you can trade power for speed. Toggle-able with 1.

Anyway, so far, what's your favourite character, asides yourself (if you're in)? Mine's Bas the Bear, unlockable by missing every helmet in one round (equal to not breaking any blocks).

GhostClown or Carmen would be my favorite.
I always play as myself, though.

I often find myself playing as GhostClown or one of the two secret characters, since he has the best break value, and still doesn't suck too much.

Carmen is good too.

Anyway, like I said, Piracy will be very different in the final version.

I need a character too. So does Moosetroop or Osmose.

Okay, question.

On Piracy, I'm planning on adding sort of blockades. Should they also stop the canonballs or should the canonballs go streight trough the blockades? The canonballs will cause paralysis.

Anyway, please tell me which characters you like and which need a little tweaking.

I think you should have cannons where you need to hit it.

Is Bas the Teddybear ACTUALLY anyone?

I dunno bout the cannons.

However, as to characters, I liked using Banner Guy the most. I hate how long some of those things take, so using him made me happy to play due to how quickly you can end levels with him.

Yeah on Piracy, the cannon balls are coming out of nowhere
But when you hit the invisible cannons, they have a healthbar for a few seconds
that's nice

and you can no longer hit the cannonballs back?

Waaaait a moment, I was never added into this game! Heck, I even asked for permission to be in it. I feel sad.

I believe I did make you, but I never had the time to actually add you, like MooseTroops.

In the event that you wanna make me... *hints, begs* Below is a gen'd Meiscool.

I'd like to be sorta like Banner guy with the stats, if that's alright and you deside to put me in.
Title:
Post by: GaryCXJk on December 11, 2006, 12:55:31 PM
Actually, the Bannerguy and Bas the Teddybear are special characters with special stats. I'm not applying same stats to two different characters.

Yeah, I'm stuck with the description for Bluhman. So for now it's empty.

I've been away for too long.

Okay guys, two days to go.

From now no more requests on characters. Meiscool, Moosetroop11 and Bluhman are the final ones to be in, with maybe a secret character if I have the time.

Maybe after the release I will add something so that you could still get new characters, but for now there won't. Also, I'm going to ask this topic to be locked by a moderator, and make a new topic to celebrate the release of the game, if it's not blammed anyway. Which I don't expect to happen, though.
