Title: The Death of Gameboy Advance.
Post by: Apex on November 28, 2006, 07:01:38 PM
Final Fantasy VI advance will be the last major title to be released for the little system, in the year 2007. It's had a good six year lifespan, and has brought almost (If not all of us.) joy at some time. The launch of the DS made the gameboy advance pretty much obsolete, but did not destroy it, since I could also play Gameboy advance games, so production of games continued for a few year of the DS launch.

It's gonna be kind of sad to see no new major titles being released. (Worthy titles to say the least, none of those stupid disney channel television show, crap excuses of games, and poorly made licensed games such as KingKong and other horrible movie titles.) So, let's take the time to look back at exceedingly good games that have been released on this little console over the years. Remakes or not, games that made you carry your GBA everywhere you went..

Games I really enjoyed:

Final Fantasy Dawn of Souls, Final Fantasy V advance, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Megaman Zero I&II, Pokemon Emerald (Yeah, it's a good game, shut up.), Wario Ware and Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap.

Go ahead, tell us your favorite games, so we can honor this little ol' bundle of once astonishiing technology.

KH: CoM
Castlevanias
Pokemon Emerald

The GBA had so many bad games, though. The bad:good ratio of GBA games was like 80:1.
Awful games like Finding Nemo and Banjo Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge made me reluctant to even buy a GBA.. but there were some great games too, like Castlevania.. I remember more than one occasion in which I busted out Castlevania at the movie theatre(The Notebook).

Final Fantasy: DoS
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodus
Mario Vs. Donkey kong
The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past/ Four Swords
Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland
Kirby and the Amazing Mirror
Fire Emblem
Metroid: Zero Mission
Metroid Fusion
Golden Sun
Castlevania Double Pack (Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance and Castlevania: Aria of Souls)

Sure will miss that ol' game machine... Not for nothing, but anyone else notice the trend of Final Fantasy games and think that VII will end up on the DS some time in the near future? If that happens, I might actually play to the end of it...

Who cares? DS = way of the future.

Did anyone care when PSX stopped making games? :p

well, if seven comes out for DS, then 8,9 are good bets too.

I can say that I'd enjoy that. It's not like the DS can't handle it or anything. Hell, it's highly plausible, what with Square being a money-munching machine... Akin to Pac Man in a way...

Anyone who says FFT:A was good has either never played FFT or have horrible taste.
Title:
Post by: Darkfox on November 29, 2006, 12:20:15 AM
Shin Megami Tensei 1&2
Devil Children: Light and Dark
Sworcraft Story 1, 2 and the third one with big title

Nope, no Final Fantasies XD

There are others I enjoyed playing... uhhh... Castlevanias even though they were rather easy.

FFT was a better game, but that doesn't subtract from the fact that FFTA was fun. I suppose the changes don't appeal to everyone...

Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories

That's it. Screw you, I'm poor :P

Meh, I liked both games. A lot of people only hate FFTA because they played FFT first and expected a game just as good. But just because FFT is better doesn't mean FFTA is a bad game.

No, it's the judge system and limiting jobs to races that makes the game poor. It makes multiclassing dulled. For example, what if I wanted an Archer or a Hunter who could speed himself up to run away from people who try to get close in and hurt me, as well as do more damage? With FFT:A, there is no race combination that will allow you to do this. I will admit that is from being spoiled by FFT, but I still say that being able to make combinations out of every class should be possible.

But what really gets me is the law system. Laws are RIDICULOUS. Some of them are so ridiculous and can cripple a good setup. The whole magic of jobs is that you can create brand new parties that beat enemies in different ways. Plus, have you ever gotten the rule "No damage"? You have to freaking poison the enemy to death.

The clan territory wars are also kinda whack because you get to a point where trying to keep all your territory takes precedence over doing missions, which makes the whole game run way too slow.

I'm an FFT purist too..
FFTA actually was a bad game, though.
Everything Osmose said plus a horribly simple story and a bastardization of Ivalice(gay dog people) makes it bad.
Title:
Post by: FFL2and3rocks on November 29, 2006, 02:58:32 AM
Yeah, I'll admit that the story was pretty horrible in FFTA... getting stuck in a video game world? Come on, that's just plain stupid. Plus some of the secret characters can't change jobs, which makes Babus really suck ***. He's kinda like a sage/time mage, but with less attacks.
As for the laws, they  never bugged me very much because there are so many ways to get around them. The only ones that annoyed me were those damn copycat and damage to animal ones...  :(
Title:
Post by: DarkFlood2 on November 29, 2006, 03:01:41 AM
I would have to say that while FFTA had some nostalgic qualities, it is a bit of a letdown... Not a complete failure, but not as great as it could have been. Nevertheless, It'll find it's place right between Final Fantasy Mystic quest, and Final Fantasy X-2.

You know what, this is ****ing stupid.

Why is it that every few years, a NEW and IMPROVED game system comes out?

I have to admit it: Playing Zelda: Majora's Mask would be HEAVEN on Wii, but, why stop making games for Gameboy Advance, and why are all of you sounding like it's gone forever? You still have it! It's not like you'll get picked on for playing it. The most recent game system I own, in fact, IS Gameboy Advance. My brother has an X-box, but I took one look at it and had no clue what to do. Nope, no Gameboy Advance SP either. I might get a DS and maybe Wii (To play the Zelda games, of course), but otherwise, I'm happy with my GBA and N64.

If you all say DS is an improved version of GBA, so be it. I LOVE DS very much, but why bring out all these new game systems at once?

I know if I get Wii and DS, I probably wont get any other game system that comes out for years.

Yeah, Gameboy advance was great... but I mainly liked it because it looked so cool and could survive no end of ill treatment, such as dropping, water and sand. I never liked the SP.

Fire emblem, Pokemon ruby, FF Dawn of souls, Metal slug ^.^ And FF4.

<3 GBA
- Pokemon Ruby
- DBZ - Legacy of Goku 1 & 2
- Super Mario Kart Advance
- LoZ: Minish Cap
- FFTA
- Fire Emblem
- Super Mario 2

I think those are the major ones I played.

Post by: Cerebus on November 29, 2006, 11:17:27 PM
Final Fantasy 1&2 : Down of Soul
Final Fantasy Tactic Advance
Sword of Mana
Metroid Fusion
Metroid : Zero Mission
Worms World Party
Mech Platoon
Wario Land 4
The Legend of Zelda : A Link to the Past / Four Swords
Mario & Luigi : Superstar Saga
Golden Sun
Golden Sun : The Lost Age
F-Zero : Maximum Velocity
Advance Wars 2 : Black Hole Rising

I think that's it, although I'm sure I forgot some...
I rarely play GBA games on my DS, I prefer playing them on my SP, but my R button doesn't work correctly, I sometime press like 20 time before it works... so some games, I can't play on my SP.

Post by: ~*Sweet Ichifo*~ on November 30, 2006, 12:06:45 AM
on this remote? Wayy more than 2 buttons.

Yeah, 2 buttons make it work, but what the hell do the rest do?!

Also, I'll admit it. My family just can't afford to buy me all these new game systems every year. So, Rev, calling me n00b is almost like calling me poor.

I'm dropping this as of now.

(Thanks Mid)

Oh... let's see here. The good old GBA. I'll try to do this in the best order I can remember. I pretty much loved all the games I've ever owned for GBA, so this will be all of them.

-Pokemon Sapphire
-Golden Sun: The Lost Age
-Golden Sun
-Super Mario Advance 4
-Super Mario Advance 2
-Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (Never played FFT)
-Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga
-Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls
-Castlevania: Circle of the Moon
-Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow
-Classic NES Series: Castlevania
-Final Fantasy IV Advance
-Tales of Phantasia
-Final Fantasy V Advance

I've also played all the way through Sword of Mana and Zelda LttP, but I had only borrowed them.

And I'm definitely getting FFVI Advance and maybe a couple other things along the way.

Yeah it was, but the DS follow-up didn't quite live up to it. :( Well, sequals often don't I guess.

But anyway, yeah the remakes were definitely a good thing, especially since I never owned a SNES! That, and I didn't get into RPGs until I played Final Fantasy IX and Star Ocean 2, so I had all of those classics to come back to remade for on-the-go!

True, but it still had the humor that made the first one so fun. That and the most active turn-based battle system I've ever seen and enjoyed at the same time.

I wonder if they [Square-Enix and Nintendo] have considered making a remake of Super Mario RPG? I'd buy that for a pretty penny.
Or 4000 + tax pretty pennies.

Zelda: ALTTP
Fire Emblem
MegaMan Zero
Metroid Fusion
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga

Those are the five good GBA games I got.  I also got Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, but they really lost their appeal with all the badly-drawn Pokemon.  I felt like I was playing a kiddies' game everytime I ran into one of the new ones.

Dragon Ball Z: Taiketsu.  Ugh.  The claymation in that game was terrible.  That game pretty much sucked the life out of me.  I don't even know why I played it.  It was an X'mas gift, but still...

Four Swords with my brothers.  Those were some pretty sweet times.  And hunting down all the little upgrades in Metroid Fusion was fun, even if it took a long-*** time.  Yeah.
