Alright, we all do it. We all Pirate. I know this, because most of us use an illegal copy of RPG Maker to begin with.
Limewire has been giving me problems, as it hacked my computer with a nasty worm, causing my parents to wipe it without telling me and me losing all my photoshop art, RPG Maker things, and school reports. Also, this caused me to lose most of my Itunes music, so if I plug my Ipod in right now, it will update automatically and I'll lose half my songs. I need to get these songs back in some way.
So... what program/programs do most of you guys use? I'd prefer programs that could be trust worthy, and not programs that have given you problems in the past. No links of course, that's against the rules.
So.. yeah. A little help in being pointed in the right direction please?
-
Well first tell iTunes not to auto update, that way you can keep your songs. It's somewhere in options.
And about pirating (I am a ninja, however), I just use BitTorrent. It works well and I haven't had any problems with it.
-
man turn that stupid sync thing off the Ipod
and I'd suggest uninstalling Itunes before you do anything.
and i use Ipod Agent. On Podtropolis they have a program package thingy on their with all kinda ipod software that owns.
and yes, I use bit torrent with isohunt if you do use isohunt do not dare click on the link that says something about which site the torrent came from.
-
I did turn the sync off. Some reason, it keeps turning back on. I already got it charged up, so I don't feel like risking pugging it in.
Thanks for helping. I'll take a look at Bit Torrent.

Using Limewire is piracy, too. I won't talk. 'Sides, I only know one case of a guy ever getting caught for Piracy.
That guy made a weird little game that had a lot of NES and Famicom games in it, but it wasn't with Nintendo's approva, so he was arrested, fined, and the like, and returned to Iran.
But those things are all over the place in Puerto Rico...they even sell them in malls (small ones, mind)!

LimeWire.
You're just an idiot for downloading something with a worm. Seriously, check the file size, if it's less than what it should be, don't download it. Not to mention virus scan everything you get off there.
You will NOT get a virus/worm/trojan/spyware form an MP3 file, it is only read only. Feel free to get as many of those as you want without worrying about jacking up your computer.
Avoid Exe's and Compressed things, unless you have a virus scanner you are somewhat confident in. You will not get the Virus unless you try to open the file or compressed file, so scan it before you risk it.
Check file sizes, honestly, if you are going to get something like Flash, then go to the official site, go to the downloads page, and see how big the file is, so you have something to compare to when you try to get it off limewire, because if you search for a program, other things will pop up claiming to be it, with only about 4.8kb (Just an example.) in size, which is clearly not what your looking for, so don't even bother with it.
If you're going to be a pirate, at least get an associates degree at the school of piracy.
Bittorrent is a great method, but only for large files and whole albums, if you are going for an individual song, just get it on a p2p program.

Ditto.
Emule had the largest variety of things. I have not bought a single RPG book in my whole life, but I got a lot of them. How? Downloaded in .pdf with emule and printed in my office's laser xerox printer ^^
So far I got: Tri Stat dX - 96 pg.
BESM - 200 pg.
Cyberpunk 2020 - ~300 pg.
A Game of Thrones - ~500 pg.
Dreaming Cities - ~300pg.
Monster Manual for BESM d20 - ~150 pg
More stuff I donīt remember...
Guess who suffered the most with piracy was my boss in the end -.-
Anyway, for complete albums (which I recommend, cause if you only listened one song of a band, liked, and wears itīs shirt the next day, you're a ****ing poser) Torrents are the best. Same for games. But Emule got all of that too. The problem is that you gotta stay in line to download and your ID gotta be high (which means you gotta share your stuff and your connection must be good). But no virus there.

I think you just gave him his degree.

I know about file size Apex. The 4.8 WMA files and ect are bullshit, everyone and anyone can see that. That doesn't mean the actual song I downloaded doesn't contain a virus.
-
Viruses can attatch themselves to the song while you are downloading it if the seed computer is infected.
-
I use BitComet for downloading albums/anything, and SoulSeek for songs..

If you are that flipin' paranoid about getting a virus, get a Mac.
Either way, I don't have a virus scanner on either of my computers, and I haven't gotten a virus in over at least a year and a half. Use common sense.

utorrent is my personal favorite for my torrenting needs. Torrents are the safest, most effective means for downloading your goods. Of course, this is merely opinion based. I have used direct downloading, limewire, kazaa, morpheus, and none of them worked nearly as well as torrents. I would offer the three greatest torrent links I know (Again opinion based), but I don't know if that would be going against the rules of charas. But wait, you have me on MSN I think. Hooray Hoorah.
-
Yeah, I forgot that I'm gonna have to download MSN messanger again. I'll get on that.
-
Meh. There is really no way to be safe. Virus scanners dont always work. Even Macs aren't 100% safe anymore. Of course when I download a song from limewire theres usually like, 50 different versions of the same damn song, all with the same file size... I usually pick one of them. Of course theres those cases where you only get like 1 or 2 and one's 4 mbs and anothers 8 and they're supposed to be the same thing... those I'm a little more cautious.
Bittorent is slow, and it can be hard to find sources. I dont really use it much...

*Fairly sure this is illegal*
You have to download Win rar and you have to download the entire album of the song of the artist you want, but it's still pretty good.

A bit late, but I love you.
I finally sat down and did that, and I got everything back. Now on to illegally downloading other music that I want but am to cheap to pay for.
-
Download on, my illegal friend!
Factiod: My birthday, September 19th, is International Talk Like a Pirate Day (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Talk_Like_a_Pirate_Day). I get pirate related birthday gifts, too. And I pirate things for the hell of it.

Oh hero! Pirate me a soul untainted by temptation.

I use Limewire, or my m8s. I have plenty of m8s you continously download anything and everything, so I never need to do the dirty work. Plus these days I usually just buy albums, dvds etc. not programs though, don't have the money for them yet.
