Title: Systems on the market
Post by: Darrellito on January 07, 2007, 11:42:33 PM
Hey, I'm thinking of buying one of the 'Next Gen' consoles and would like to know some of the extra features of each console. Personally, though, I'm thinking about buying a Wii, only because of the price, and with the X-box 360, I've  heard that it's having alot of recalls for broken stuff.

So please, discuss.

If I had the money, I would get the Wii. PS3 doesn't look like it has anything to offer, and the XBox360 just looks meh to me.

Have a 360 here. I like it and haven't had a problem with it yet. But, you should look mainly at which consoles pleased you in the past and which next-gens have the type of games you want.

See I had my eye on the Wii, but I don't want to buy something like that and find out that the controler is just like one of those cheap games you see advertised on t.v. (Play t.v. baseball and other sports) and be disapointed. Of course though, I could always just take it back to the store i bought it from, but it would most likely be Walmart and they're really stingy with returns on video game and computer stuff. And from what i've heard from a freind of mine, they've had three call backs for the 360, and he's had to return his each time they had one. Even now, his 360 is broken. The disk tray refuses to open. But yeah, the ps3 is just a cheap blue ray player, and i'm more of a gamer then a movie guy.

The Wii isn't like that play tv crap. It's a really good controller.

Got me a Wii and a 360. Love em both.
You should get whichever has the most games you want.
PS3 has like 3 games I want so far, so it doesn't seem like a wise investment.

I think it just depends on the software.

I mean, the main games I "buy" are Final Fantasy, games made by Rockstar, sports games, the Project Ico games, and other Square-Enix games.

I had a Super Nintendo, I bought a Playstation, I then got a PS2, then a Gamecube, and now I'm looking at the PS3. If you'll notice, these are the systems which had FF the most.

Even though a Wii, and the Mistwalker 360 games sound tempting, I'm gonna stick with the PS3 and the Final Fantasy games coming out for it. If it makes the switch to another system (Probably 360) I'll get that system instead.

Right now, the PS3 isn't impressing me which is a disappointment. I mean, a lot of the tech demos they used to show off looked gorgeous, but now it's like they're games look like FMVs as opposed to the well animated stuff. Especially with FF13, after that FF7 tech demo I'm disappointed with how it's going. I just can't get interested in the disk drive space and the blu-ray player stuff.

What's are your favorite games? Try to go by that, imo.

Ok, it seems like more people have 360s then Wiis right now so could anyone tell me some of the games that you like? I haven't personally looked into what's avalible, so this would save me some time. Also, Wii games would help too.

Edit: Is it true that they're making a ff7 remake for the ps3?

(The Rayman game looks good)
Title: About FF7
Post by: aboutasoandthis on January 08, 2007, 12:23:06 AM
From what I know, no. It looked more like they were using Dirge of Cerberus's and that one "Zack" game's engine, and using PS3 to take away the lag. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a remake, but it's unlikely.
Title:
Post by: Darrellito on January 08, 2007, 12:42:05 AM
I was just wondering, because me and a freind of mine (Tmlunder) were watching a movie off the internet of ff7 and all the graphics were updated and when the intro came to the title like in ff7, it said Playstaion III underneath it. But yeah, that might have had something to do with Advent Children.

That was a tech demo, they said they won't make a full game of it.

The Wii controller for Wii tennis is actually quite accurate. I play tennis semi-professionally, and like on the Wii i could change my shots from spin shots to slice shots by tilting my wrist. So yea, Wii is actually much better then I thought it would be. And I thought it would be good from that start.

Well, just pit what is out now against each other.

360: Gears Of War, ?
PS3: ?
Wii: Zelda!

Ok so I don't keep that in touch with the gaming world.

The only trouble though, with the Wii, is that they are in such high demand, that you can't find one any where. And when a store finally gets one in stock, they sell it out right -a- way. But if anyone knows a good way to get a Wii (besides e-bay) It would be greatly appreciated.
Title:
Post by: Linkizcool on January 08, 2007, 01:18:28 AM
Ask a store to phone you once they get one. Small-scale stores will do this, maybe big stores like Wal-Mart might too.
Title:
Post by: Darrellito on January 08, 2007, 01:25:03 AM
Dude, i live in south dakota. We don't have smaller game stores. I asked Walmart to phone me when they get a shipment in, but they told me "They don't know when there gonna get a shipment in until it comes in that day" And to get one before they're gone here, i have to have further notifacation. I was looking fo more of a online source though.

I'd suggest a PS3, but thats only because of the bgames I like to play arer on it. To be honest though, the list of first release games for it (for Aus) don't impress me that much. To be honest all the consoles have have quite a few same games for each other. Also, the PS3's big games ain't out yet, so it maybe wiser to grab a different console.

I couldn't help you on 360 or WII games, cos I pay no real attention to them.

Post by: Dragonium on January 08, 2007, 04:05:00 PM
Like it's already been said, it all depends on what game series' you're into. I'm planning on getting a PS3 at some point for the reason that it has the Final Fantasy and GTA series' which I'm a fan of. So yeah, the current PS3 games are kind of shite, but there's some good stuff on the cards.

[Insert list of good upcoming games here; too lazy to search for all of them]

But it's up to you really. Nobody can tell you what you're going to enjoy more.

I have a Wii, and I'm loving it. Wii Sports is actually pretty good, and Zelda: TP owns as much as they claimed it would. But if you want to get a Wii, I would suggest waiting for a year or so, not only because of the high demand, but also to wait for some bigger releases (SSB:B, Metroid Prime 3, Mario Galaxy, etc.). Later games will also have better control (the launch games had less time to refine this aspect) - for example, I've played both Super Monkey Ball and Red Steel for the Wii, and I found both difficult to control due to the Wiimote.

Games That Are Great For the Wii:

Wii Sports - Simple fun. The controller is surprisingly accurate once you are synched with the sensitivity, and the games are simple yet fun - the best part is that it uses your Mii, so you can play against your friends Mii's (Benefit of the Mii parade is that Wii Sports replaces your opponents in the sports games with Miis that you have downloaded, meaning you can play a game of baseball by yourself and have you and all your friends be the characters).

Trauma Center: Second Opinion - Amazing. Fun as hell - the story is a bit out there, but that only leads to even more hilarity. Again, the accurateness of the Wiimote is well displayed, and the control setup quick and easy to learn.

Call of Duty 3 - FPS with the Wiimote is less than stellar - I have shaky hands, but even considering that the aim could be better. If I had more time to play it I would've gotten better, but I much prefer Analog controls and would recommend the 360 version. Red Steel is even worse, and I don't recommend it.

Excite Truck - Steering may take some time to get used to (Seeing a trend? :P), but the special boost tricks and the pace of the race makes for a great experience.

Twilight Princess - The Wiimote is used far better for aiming in this game, although this may be due to the fact that Zelda games usually balance aiming and normal play - and this is just as good, if not better, than the other 3d Zeldas we have seen so far - well worth it.

Games That Are Great For the 360:

Call of Duty 2 and 3 - Similar gameplay for both, although 3 definitely has different feel to it - both are great FPSes and worth buying. I've played way more 2 than 3, so I can't really make a good judgment on whether one or the other is better, but know that 3 is not bad at all.

Dead Rising - I played a little of this today, and it is a very fun game - killing zombies like crazy, taking pictures of gore, etc. The only downside is that the entire game is played on a time limit, and missions go away after awhile - I'd much rather be able to run around and kill zombies for a while without worrying about the time. But that doesn't detract from the sheer fun factor of making a huge group of zombies go flying with a baseball bat.

Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 - I used to hate wrestling games simply because doing anything took forever - you had to figure out complex movesets for each person. This edition of Smackdown vs. Raw, however, changes all of that. There's a new stamina system that gives you a fighting chance when your opponent runs out of steam as he tries to keep you down. Grabs and such are compacted into a much-more simplified system of using the right analog stick to grab, and punching combos now have a larger effect on the fight - not to mention you can counter or dodge attacks or grabs using the triggers, evening out a genre that definitely needed it. If you've played wrestling games before, this game will certainly change things for you. Not to mention that the graphics are amazing, although that is mainly for the Divas. :)

Fear - This is one of the few games that succeeds at being very scary. It's more or less standard FPS fare, although you will find it to be on the easy-side, and levels get a bit bland. The feel is unique enough to mix with the story and make a great game despite it's downfalls.

Condemned - Awesome game. Not much you can say - it's basically an FPS with barely any guns - the guns you find run out of bullets after killing maybe three, four people - the rest just have to be beaten down.

Gears of War - Cool as hell FPS - controls are on the heavy side, and cover is way more important than in most other games. Plus, the machinegun has a chainsaw for a bayonet - that's worth it alone.

Oblivion - I'd say more about Oblivion besides it being godlike, but I don't recommend getting the console version. The PC version is way worth upgrading your PC for it like I did - the amount of mods is AMAZING and they do so much - some add in the Buster Sword and Masamune (Advent Children Buster Sword is available for those wanting it), to being able to wear armor and become Pyramid Head ala Silent Hill, to adding in tons of new monsters, fixing what is not a very great leveling system, improving graphics immensely without lowering FPS, adding better textures, being able to sail ships, etc. GET THE PC VERSION NOW

Games That Are Great For the PS3:

Ummm, I dunno what it's called, but there's a sick-looking racing game for it. Motorstorm. That's the one. The videos for it are sweet as all hell.

I don't know much about the PS3, but a lot of the games that are coming for it sound great, they just... aren't here yet. :

If by outside you mean outside of my own room, yes. I certainly can't afford a 360 or a Wii, but I have friends who can, and thus have the ability to try them out before I decide which I want first (I want them all eventually). :)

True, but a zombie is a zombie no matter how you kill it. I just don't like the whole undead thing. I never really got into those Resident Evil games. I generally like an rpg that doesn't base itself on pretty graphics and more on gameplay, and some sports games. I like FPS. Killzone 2 looked unbelievably cool with it's tech demo. I can't wait to try some of the shooters on the Wii.

Dude, Resident Evil and Dead Rising aren't the same genre or type of game.

Also, based on your logic, it also means an adventure game is an adventure game no matter what adventure you have. Your logic phails (see, ph instead of f for more ownage).

Post by: Dragonium on January 09, 2007, 05:37:02 PM
You can't say two games (In different genres, I might add) are the same just because they have a common element between them. That's like saying all RPGs are the same because they contain swords.

Still, at least the 360 is doing something fresh and original with its games, instead of just making another hundred spin-offs of an existing series...

I'm not sure if they've said it outright, but they've at least strongly hinted that they will stay with the Gamecube style controller setup (Wii has that rounded version that accomplishes more or less the same thing.

Do you plan to go into moding the system and all of that?

If so, don't bother with the Wii

as much as I don't like the 360, there are some nice *** mods for it.

PS3 mods suck, well so far they suck.

Be safe, get a Wii.

I did have a 360 and the screen froze outta no where... pissed me off.
I didn't even want the thing anymore. It is a known device error and they exchanged it out for me and I still haven't opened the box to play it. That thing is dead to me.

My PS3. Not enough games. The Gundam game is utter garage. I tired of Tony Hawk. All I want is FF 13, Kingdom Hearts, and whatever RPG's come out.

My Wii.. I only own Red Steel and Zelda but I love them both even though I haven't got to play them much.

To be honest I've only played one game from any of the three consoles, which was gears of war, so I don't have much of an opinion- but it was awesome on co-op. It was the first game I've played where I really felt like my survival was dependant upon my friend. I'm waiting to see what Halo3 gives but GOW was a breath of fresh air.

There has been alot of Talk about Kingdom Hearts being for Wii actually. Final Fantasy is having three non ported titles for the DS just as of late, Final Fantasy Tactics advance II, Crystal Chronicals and Final Fantasy XII Reverent Wings. As for other RPG's Dragon Quest 9 is going to be for DS as well.

So if you are a Square-head, looks like DS is actually the solution.

For Wii, we get a different Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicals.

As for your friends code, you have to go into the message board, choose new message, go to the address book, and view friends codes.
