THIS CONTEST IS CLOSED. WINNER: Robotam
JUDGES: Meiscool - Linkizcool - MrMister

Rules: Using the chipset above, create the best possible map that you can. You can only use the chipset, an NO events unless told otherwise. Any exceptions will be noted below.
Exceptions: You may use the event code -> Weather -> Rain. You may also use a charaset of a water ripple if you choose to use the rain.
You may use any sprites of human/monster characters or animals if you wish. NO sprites of objects or other things, except for the ripple.
This contest will go for five days, or untill we have enough entries. Winners of the contest will recieve random things from me, or recieve nothing. The winner of this contest will recieve a resource from me. The winner will have a choice between several different things, which I will PM him/her about upon winning the contest. These contests will be judged by me, and IF ANYONE ELSE WISHES TO BE A JUDGE WITH ME, PM ME. Only offer to be a judge if you seriously think that you can be here when needed and do your job. Anyone can enter the contest, judges as well, though judges can't win prizes. Prizes can consist of:
My 'special' resources that I use to map with and havn't shared with the public yet.
My special chipset edits.
And perhaps become a beta testor for my game.
To start things off, I will post my map. Remember, because I'm a judge, my map won't be in the voting. This is just an example of what you can do.

So, begin!

I'm so in on this one!

Well, whatever, it's worth a second try.

Screw you and your really good maps ^

...it's to find out why I can't stand Mack & Blue. Your options are limited. I hated this thing.

I think it lookks pretty good. But don't count Archem out just yet! He's got a map that just might make you say something! Mebe not something positive, but something none-the-less!
Now, if only I could find more TIME to work on this...
-
Alright guys. Tomorrow is the 12th, which is the fifth day of this contest. Unless I recieve three or so entries tomorrow, I'm going to give the contest a little more time. So, if you've got a map, turn her in :p
-
lol, I would enter, but i need the map set formated for xp.

This is a 2k/3 map contest.
Use a different RPG Maker.

Entry

Thanks for entering guys.
I'll wait untill CK, Krynth, and Archem post their maps, then I will begin the judging. Just don't take a super long time guys ;)
-
Don't worry, I plan to finish sometime between now and Monday. That's assuming that things don't take a turn for less computering. If I don't submit one by then, and you feel like closing up shop, them IO guess I'm out.
-
-
You can go without me. Sorry, I ended up being really busy this week and now I'm just tired and I'm deciding I'll wait until next time.
-
I'm disappointed with how this came out. I made a great map, but the submission size limited what I could show. Mebe next contest, we can have groups? Like small size, medium size, and large size map screens? Anyways, here's what I came up wiht, without using character sprites. Kind of a cheap way of adding detail, you know?
-
Sorry guys :p
I've had some friends over all weekend and forgot about hte computer. Anyways, this contest has ended, and I will begin to write the verdits once my friends leave. Judges, you may post your evaluations as well.

ZeroKirbyX: 7
I thought it was a nicely put together cliff, but still a little bland.
Nuff said.
Robotamz: 7
Thus begins the seagull rape. Nice map, probably would be terrible ingame.
aboutasoandthis: 7
I thought this could have been a better map if you had stuck with the shadows all the way through, instead of cluttering the map up with people. Pretty nice though, but more deserty than beachy.
Linkforce: 4
Now, everyone did a fair to great job of depicting height in their maps, which can be tricky. But you didn't try at all, sadly, and despite being constricted to 15x20, you still managed to weasel out of doing much work.
Also, seagull rape?
TjJackson: 6
Considering it looks really deserty, there probably shouldn't be a well there. The buildings are extremely cluttered and disorganized, so no town would really look like that. Also, the clotheslines on the rooftops ain't got no alibi, they ugly. They ugly..
Darrelito: 6
It looks like you saved this in jpg in MSPaint!
Anyways, I liked the shape of the beach and the building is neat.
Don't know if they wouldn't build a building that close to the water.
The cliffs in the water look pretty pisspoor. Otherwise fine map.
Krynth: 5
I don't like it. Flat, solid water. Nothing really interesting about the map.
Also, if you put in mismatched charasets, you shouldn't include them in your map submission.
lucas_irineu: 2
Terrible! The buildings are 3x2. This makes NO sense.
Also, random spots of water don't happen like that.
There's people congregating around a pot, and two children are playing with a BALL, which is an object charaset, which is forbidden.
Archem: 8
Sex. I liked the sex parts the most.
Also, the sex reminded me of Zelda.
You should have sexed the entire chip in some cases, like the water around the sex, but still a great job.
And, there you have it.
-
The buildings are extremely cluttered and disorganized, so no town would really look like that.
So according to you, all towns should have a nice clean gridded street pattern with streets and crosswalks every X number Tiles, no more, no less? There is only five buildings in the map anyhow, and all of them are spaced apart.
Many Desert towns Would have multiple wells in them, as any Drinkable water would be hundreds of feet under ground.
And yes, the Clotheslines were kind of ugly and didn't really belong.
-
He's a judge and you fail. Be quiet.

you also failed...

Shut the hell up, all of you. He is only one judge, and it does NOT reflect the thoughts of all the judges. If you can't take crit, then it's probally best that you shouldn't post a map. I know MrMister lays it down hard, but his opinions still stand. Don't make a fuss.
My Review:
First, before I say anything, I would like to scold three people for not following the rules.
1) Robotam. You used a flag in the upper left of the map. I don't see that flag anywhere on the chipset I gave out. Also, flags are not character sprites, unless you have a character that is an actual flag :p I'll ignore it for now, as its not a major part of the map, but please try to be more considerate of the rules.
2) aboutasoandthis. I'm honestly not sure how you got that shadow effect down below. Other than using one of the tiles that were already on the map and setting it to 100% black flash every 0.0 seconds (Which is forbidden in the coding anyways), I don't see how you could've made those shadows without using an object sprite. The next map isn't Mac, so hopefully you'll have more to work with :)
3) lucas_irineu. I know that is samus, and I wasn't going to say anything, but objects were forbidden. However, if you did intent for that to be the actual Samus in ball form, then I would probally give you an ever lower rating because Samus looks out of place amid a scene like that.
On to the rating:
ZKX: I like it. Other than the upper right being bear and bland, everything looks realistic. Some things here and there are off, but overall, it's great.
TjJackson: It was a great idea, and you did it pretty well in my opinion. I've made a map much like that before, and honestly thought of it as one of my best 10 maps. However, your choice of sprites was very poor. They don't match in style, size, or colors. Sorry bud, but you don't win this one.
Robotam: I NEVER KNEW THE WATER WAS SUPPOSED TO BE USED LIKE THAT. Really nice map. It's not crowded, doesn't have a lot to look at, yet it's so peaceful and reflecting somehow. Though you went against the rules, I'm ignoring the flag (pretending it isn't there) and still loving the map. You win my personal vote for the best map in this contest.
aboutasoandthis: Unlike above, yours is very crowded and relays a look of hectic actions. I still like it though. You used the tiles in a great way that I never would've thought of using. However, I think you put a little to many characters in it, making it an impractical map. I still commend you for making such a map though. You're very inovative when it comes to using tiles in an abnormal fashion.
Krynth: Congrats dude, I can see this one. You've got archers and a shocked dude. It would probally make a cool scene in a game. However, your sprites don't match, and though the map looks realistic, it's bleak. I think you did pretty well on this, other than the sprites not matching and the need of a bit more detail.
Archem: I like the left, I hate the right. You used the auto tiles really well to make the building roofs, and made use of the windows nicly too. However, It looks like you made this in a rush. Character sprites and animals would've made the map a great deal better IMO.
lucas_irineu: Unlike my friend above, I don't have much of a problem with small houses. Final Fantasy does it, I don't see why you can't. However, I do honestly like larger houses more, so you rank a little lower than you could've. You used your people and animal sprites well, but a lot of them don't match up. Your birds are from one game, chickens from another, RTP from a different, and Samus is a different style as well :p Try making your buildings a little larger in the future.
Linkforce: Wow dude. The center of it is great. The building, boxes, trees, guy sweeping. All awesome. I was thinking: "If the entire map looks like that, he wins". Then I saw the rest. In my opnion, there was to much water. If you made some rocks, a pier, cliff, really anything, it would've made the overall look a lot better.
Glitch: If you had made it smaller, it would've looked better and more detailed. Overall, the map is just lacking detail. Its empty in a lot of places, and has no variation of tiles. Try making it in 320X240 next time.
Darrelito: I like the boat, and how you used a pole to make a rope for it. Very nice. However, it does like like a JPEG, and the water tiles don't match up. Because a lot of the map is water, I can't just disregard the fact that your water tiles don't match up. I really like the fact that you joined this even though you only have XP, but it might be a better idea to download 2003 and use that to make the maps from now on.
The winner of my judging is Robotam. However, this doesn't mean the overall winner is Robotam. Linkizcool still has yet to cast his vote. So be afraid ;)

As a judge, I declare this to be true.
Also, this is a 'summer' contest, where you have to use a 'beach' chipset.
Where in that sentence is the word 'desert'?
-
Well then. MrMister's score for my map kind of threw me off, because I would have expected a lower score. Meiscool's decision sumed up my ideas of the map. I intentionally left out sprites to show off the actual map, but the right is indeed empty, or, at least, empty from what's visible. I would like to once again insert the suggestion of map submissions into size groups.

7 is > than 6 but he didn't get the highest score from you. therefore he fails too.
And while this is a summer contest, nowhere in Meiscool's guidelines does it say to make a beach. It just says to make a map using the chipset that was given.

You failed at accepting his judgement, and failed at beating me. Therefore, you failed. I may have failed at beating Archem, but I succeeded at accpeting his judgement unlike another certain pansy we know of. My one failure averaged with my one success neutralizes my status. Your two failures averaged gives you a failure.
When you enter a contest, and you lose, don't get all hissy because of it.

Indeed. But you were clearly pwnd seeing as how you couldn't think of a counter. Have a good day with your 6, I'll enjoy my 7 over here. 7 > 6

Seriously, stop.
TjJackson, you need to stop being so fussy. If someone gives you a non-bias rating, you DEAL WITH IT. There are people out there that don't like my mapping because they think it's overly detailed, but that doesn't mean I'm not a good mapper, now does it? You've recieved my rating, saying you did well for the most part, and you still have yet to recieve Linkizcool's rating. So be quiet, accept what you've earned, and quit turning my contest into a bickering fest. You stopped providing points many posts back. Now you are just trolling.
Silas, I'm going to ask that you don't respond to his trolling from here on out. Anywhere else I wouldn't care, but because this is my thread, I coincidentally do care. I'm sure you already had enough sense to not respond to him already though, because you're the defination of awesome.
EDIT: Nevermind that last bit....

Fine Matt, I'll stop.

Just so you know.. I do love this quote pyramid.
And ZeroKirbyX has been a man about losing, so he actually has two successes, leaving TjJackass at 4 successes less than ZKX.
Edit: Addressing Meiscool as 'Matt' calls him out as a dude.. another success for you

It may say Chipsetbeach, but that still doesn't mean that we 'had' to make a bea--....,.... ah forget it, arguing with MrMister is like arguing with a rock, and I said that I would stop allrady...
-
Yes.. arguing with me is like arguing with a rock.. no matter what, you are insane for even comprehending it
-
I just got rpg2k3 on my computer, so next time i'll hopefully do better.
This message brought to you by my Wii.
Edit: Also, my map was jpg format. I didn't know anyway of saving it except print screening it while I was testing it. Is there another way of posting it?
-
Yeah. I'll post the method of how to make screenshots in the rules for the next contest.
-
Either by the end of today or after Linkizcool posts his review of the maps.
-
>_>
<_<
Where be Linkizcool?
-
Even though this wasn't a rule, I admit I cheated. I darkened the image with Ultimate Paint. I was going to put in a lot of shadows like MrMister was thinking. I did not use any coding, but it was still stupid. So in other words...I personally believe I cheated, even though there wasn't a rule.
Meis, if I were you, I'd put in a no image editing rule or something. I can even help you make some rules if you want. You should know I'm good at cheating and finding ways around stuff.
MrMister, no where in the rules does it say make a beach. That would be like someone making an F-16 that flies for a sand-castle contest, and having it lose to a kid with a pale because it wasn't a castle. Unless there was a written rule saying make a castle, he would not have had to make a castle and you know it.
Am I saying I should've got a higher score?
No
Am I saying change your decision?
No
Just...I'll stand by your decision anyway. I mean you gave my map your time of day anyway. If you took the time to read this, that's not like you...
I respect the judges descisions. They're taking the time to do this. You're not. This is supposed to be fun remember? If you worry about winning a mapping contest or getting something from Meiscool, you need a life.

Hey, I got tied up on the weekend. I'll add my judging to this post, even though it might be a little late.
Here:
ZKX: Nice use of grass, and the detaling is nice, but not really very complex with the water. That would be what I would work on., adding some water overlays and all.
Glitch; First of all, the maps a little big. Plus it's a little spread out, and not superbly detailed. Again, thats what I would work on.
Robotam: Very nice use of cliffs and water, but a little more grass on the cliffs would have been nice.
Aboutaso: Contrary to most of the previous maps, I think this was a little over-detailed. Not bad, but the middle top looks a bit crowded.
Linkforce: There was a little too much water around the island, which means not too much room for detailing. Nice idea, but it doesn't work too well when you have to use a small map.
TJJackson: I like this map. It has a nice feeling to it, no too crowded and not to detailed. The only thing I object is that the chars are RTP...
Darelitto: The cliffs look kinda weird, like its flat then the little bit at the end. It kinda looks random, and not very realistic. Not bad otherwise.
Krynth: A little open, but nice idea. The sea could use a little more in it. I like the cliffs on either side.
Lucas_Irineu: Nice map, i like it, but it kinda looks a bit random. RTP chars, and soem detalis in random spots but not others.
Archem: I like the house and eerything, but it looks a bit bland. you could have curved the path a little bit.
Anyway, I have to go so I'll leave the winner and runnerup judging for tommorow..which is now today...
The winner is...
TjJackson
the runner up is...
Robotam.
Good job you guys!
-
Good job, judges.
First place on one, second on another and on Mister's list I'm not too sure. I'm just trying to figure out if I won here.
...Sorry about the flag btw, lets just say it's a living flag. :p
-
Nedz moar contest.
-
Alright. Because Robotam recieved high votes on us all, I'm giving this contest to him. Second place goes to two people, TjJackson and ZKX. ZKX got 'good' ratings by me and MrMister, and Linkizcool seemed to like it. TjJackson got a 'great' rating by Linkizcool and a 'good' rating by me, which was only messed up by MrMister's 'poor' rating. One Poor, One Great, and One Good adds up to three goods.
Great job guys. Really great turnout. I'll post the next competition soon.
Also, for the future, DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE JUDGES. If a judge feels that a beach chipset should be used to make a beach and not a desert, then that is his choice. When you make something for other people to judge, normally, if you want to win, you make something that pleases the judges and not yourself. So, remember what I like, what Linkizcool likes, and what MrMister likes. You could make a fine map, but if we don't like it, you don't win :p
If people really want me to, I'll post a list of what each person likes and dislikes in maps, so you have guidelines. I'll post the next contest by the end of the day. Hope you'll all enter again!
Also, Robotam, PM me if you do or don't want the reward for winning. I lost all my RPG Makeing stuff to a computer wipe, so I don't have a lot to offer, but maybe I can find something...
-
It is now open. Feel free to enter it ;)
