Title: Antvirus
Post by: Krynth on January 09, 2007, 08:37:45 AM
Eh think I have a virus seeing how I'm getting bull about my antivirus being disabled and not existing when trying to turn it back on...so fine I went to reinstall it and now I'm getting crap about it being already installed so I try to uninstall it completely seeing how it supposebly wasnt but it wont let me do that either.... well tried something out taking the disk and scanning for viruses before loggin in to the computer and it says there is none but still got the same problem...

So yea recommend any antviruses that are good?

I'm compressing all the files I want and emailing it to myself so I dont lose anything when I reboot my computer all the way....hopefully dont lose them or I'll have to start over on everything....that will work right? Usually I just make a boot disk but I'm out of space...

I had some initial installation difficulties due to harddrive malfunctions, but Norton has been very nice to me otherwise. I used to think I didn't need antivirus because I never got a virus before, but then I almost lost everything on one of my harddrives and realized how important it was to me.

I use AVG (the free version) since about 2 years, and I have no problem with it :)

I bought my computer from a pawn shop and it had Norton Internet Security and Virus Protection already on them. Norton is pretty pricey, but I think it's the best overall. I tried the AVG free version (idk if it's just from where i downloaded it) but I got a virus from it on another one of my computers.

There is some speculation that some who work for Norton make some of the big viruses and says to get rid of it you must buy it for removal. This is why alternatives exist.

AVG, STINGER, and Ad-aware.

Basically, only the following antivirus programs are crap:

-Those that promise to block everything (spam, viruses, adware, etc. everything.

-Those that come with the computer

-McAffee

-McAffee

-McAffee

-McAffee

-Those you have to pay for at any time.

-and McAffee.

Well I had anti-spyware or w/e but it didnt protect me from the viruses that came with installing java....that and I had to manually scan my computer even then it wouldnt it delete all the viruses....

I used this one that had a duck? I think for a logo but that one sucked as well...

Norton was the latest one I had (And the best) till  it was shut off by a virus I'm guessing....but yea till I can find my boot disk since I'm going to uninstall win xp all the way (or just update since its outdated) then reinstall it, then reinstall Norton..thats the only thing I can think of right now to fix the problem all the way....

Was able to get needed data in my zip drives though I have to get rid of things I wanted but eh they were'nt really needed so all's good!!!

I'll go ahead and ask this though...

Theres times I when my disks are'nt read, understand if they were burnt but even some of those that I actually bought dont always load up and even then I cant install them unto the computer.....

What can I do to fix that problem? Before I couldnt even read floppies untill I installed a scanner to the computer...

A. Don't get virus.

B. Use firefox to prevent most viruses.

C. Encase you get a virus, CTRL + ALT + Delete, find abnormal process, research what it is, and delete it.

That's what I do, and I haven't had to spend a dime.

Ha ha ha! Yeah wait till you get a backdoor or a worm. You'll need one then. lmao.

I have computer associates Ez anti-virus and spysweeeper and if you have version or build 5.2 or better you can get antivirus with it in one small package. The Ez one saved me from a spywhere/trojan combo.

krynth your problem is outdated drivers. go to microsoft.com to find the latest cd and floffy drive drivers.

Soon you'll ask me what drivers are I'll tell you now to save the time of you wasting a post:

Drivers are what lets the computer namly the cpu communicate with all the stuff you put into the computer. Plus thare are smaller and simpler .dll files that let the cpu communicate with certain programs namely rpg2k3 for instance. Drivers come with teh computer or are installed with the hardware. .dll files come with the software that you install.

I've had a backdoor worm, and I didn't need one, I just killed the process, removed the hidden folder, and changed the registry back to normal.

If you know what you are doing, then there is no worry.

Hmm... have to try that with spyware. But can you do that method with quick acting viruses? The ones that kill the computer at startup?

Krynth try this: Click start. Click run. Type setup.exe and click ok. most disks don't have autorun.

Eh I got everything working, was abel to reinstall my antivirus by just copying everything from the disk and pasting it into the specified folder where it was suppose to be in the first place, and yea I did have a virus, just one and have a good idea where it came from too so I'm staying clear from that site, but yea I was looking for some scripts for a b/g for one of my sites and well in order for me to install that b/g i needed to install something that had nothing to do with what I was wanting (never did install it but eh, sorta like that whenUsave ad) but yea non-virul infection allowing pop-ups, which i never got any so I never knew I had virus till to late...well yea manually deleted the way Apex was talking about....so all's good!!!

I know what drivers are....and yea you can go by without ever having a anti-virus (did for a real long time) but alot of times i have no idea what it is I need to delete from task manager...

Yea I've tried manually installing game disks and all before it either just doesnt read it or gives me an error of some sorts....

NWN, Morrowind, and DarkBasic are the 3 main games I've tried installing and had trouble...

NWN I know should work since I've had it installed before on my comp.

I know what I need to get Dark running...

And Morrowind well not sure its been a long time since I tried

Don't worry about viruses because they rarely come ina and kill your comp spyware on the other is like awar of attrition it attacks your ram.
