Title: AFL's Post A Midi Thread-Or AFL's almost lone midi posting thread.
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on January 14, 2007, 02:09:13 AM
This thread is for people to post their midis.  That way, if you only want opinions on one or two songs, you don't have to create a new thread.  I seem to take up the entire thread, but I have seen others post some.  Why don't you?

If you feel like using one of my midis, just pm me.  Please.

Post your midis too!

This songs is best for a sad event near the ocean or on a beach.
(That is why in the midi it has the ocean wave sound)
I like it.  It sounds really sad.
Title: Holy Knight

A holy knight theme
I was thinking Of Beatrix from ff9 when I made this some
Title: I like it
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on January 15, 2007, 02:20:04 PM
I like the beginning of yours, Vidian a lot.  I like the piano.

I don't know why, but for some reason I arranged this song.  It is Carol of the Bells for Flute, Clarinet, and Oboe.  I used my Oboe and Clarinet part to get most of it.  Enjoy.

Loved the whole Oddness that you gave the song...
Almost alarming...
Like everyone rushing around, Trying to put out a fire.

Here was a song I found on the Complete Resource section posted somebody.  -I forget-
Anyway, I change some instruments and notes to make it for Flute, Clarinet, Piano, and Trombone.

-I already uploaded this to the complete resources-
All I did with this one was change an instrument.  Most of the credit should go to the original composer.  I forget who that was at the moment. srry!  Look it up yourself if you use it.  I want just a little credit :)

Here is Moonlite Guitar 2

You may take this rudely, but don't give that to your band teacher. I don't want her to think I wrote that.

Be more original dude, stop rewriting my stuff in different and worse ways. But if you must insist on doing so, then fine, jsut stop asking me to look at everything you come up with because it's always the same problems. Clashing notes, out of key, bad percussion. If you're gonna do this then atleast take my advice.

I did this today.  I have no life on the weekends now that marching band season is over.

beore playing it, let it play through without you hearing it once, because it was stopping alot.  It plays better when you've gone through it already.
Title: Theme of Caves
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on January 31, 2007, 11:03:01 PM
I guess I was trying for a cave-ish kind of feel.  It has the same kind of melody as another one I made, "Theme of Light".

Well, here is Theme of Caves.
Title: Theme of Light

I think I was messing around with Theme of Caves when I came up with this...
Not sure what I was really going for here, but here it is, Theme of Light.  (I like the cave one better)

Title: Ok, a marching band arrangement
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on February 19, 2007, 07:07:45 PM
Okay this one is a marching band arrangement.
Final Fantasy 7
Part 1
The Countdown Begins
Includes The Countdown Begins, You Can Hear the Cry of the Planet, J-E-N-O-V-A
I'm sorry for all those FF7 fans that know that these might not be in any kind of order.  I still have to add dynamics to the whole thing, so ignore the fact the the whole song is kinda loud.
Instrument Parts:

Wind InstrumentsPercussion InstrumentsPit Percussion Instruments
I know that the end is a bit weird, but I'm going to fix it.  and make it a bit less... chaotic?  Okay Here it is...
The Countdown Begins (The Opener)

I didn't add as much as I thought I would  Well here is the complete version of They Have Come.

Well, I'd like some outside opinions on this peice. I hope you dont mind if I use your thread....

This is a song I constructed to paly with my games trailer, which will be released in early summer most likely... note that the style changes rapidly, but that is because of some of the parts of the trailer...

Title: well...
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on February 22, 2007, 08:23:24 PM
You should add some dynamics.  Make it loud when the Orchestral Hits come in, and softer when the flute comes in.  I haven't really been using them in my stuff lately because either I'm working on it, or it was practice.  In order to say anything more about the song itself, I'd have to see your video clip or what ever your using.  Anyway, I think you have something going with the parts you had a flute in it, but the Orchestral hits seemed to be too repetitive.  They sounded fine with how you used them, but use that for when you are making songs for future reference.  Sorry if I was too critical, I'm not a big fan of Orchestral hits. :P  It would probably work from the sounds of what you were talking about in the post you made.

(That was a long post for me... I hope I won't do that too much...)

I would do Dynamics if I knew how :S

What program do you use to make midis?

Dang, this noteworthy looks AWSOME! But thers no way I'mpaying $40 for it. *sigh* I guess i'll have to put up with not being able to do dynamics and junk.

I haven't bought, I'm still using th trial version.  there is no limit on how many days you can use the trial.

Well, I have finished the ballad of my FF7 show.  Here is the info on it:
Final Fantasy 7
Part 2
Aeris's Theme (is it Aeris or Aerith?)
I'm sorry for all those FF7 fans that I don't know which one is which, (one is KH the other FF but which one?!?!).
Instrument Parts:

                   Wind Instruments

-Picollo

-Flute 1/2 *optional Flute 2 solo*

-Clarinet 1/2

-Alto Sax 1/2

-Mellophone 1/2

-Trumpet 1/2/3

-Baritone 1/2

-Trombone 1/2

-Tuba 1/2

                   Percussion Instruments

-Snare

-Tenor Drums

-Bass Drums

                   Pit Percussion Instruments

-Mallets

-Timpani

-Electric Bass

-Electric Piano (Keyboard)

This one sounds a bit better than the last one.  There is a sour note towards the beginning, but that is just because it is a half-note but it holds it for some reason... Well, here you go,
Aeris's Theme (The Ballad)

I added a new part to Sierra's Theme!!!  It was originally from a song I called Strings (practice one), but i liked it so much i added it!  I just called the new one String Ensemble.
Title: new
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on March 02, 2007, 10:48:04 PM
for instrument parts, go to the earlier post.  only, there is no flute 2 solo.  there is a clarinet 2 one though.
same as earlier FF7 opener, only used a different song for the end of it.  i added some dynamics, and tempo changes as well.
Replaced J-E-N-O-V-A with Battle Theme  (i don't know what else to say about it.  just listen.  (i need to fix the end note as well.)
Title: redid one
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on March 03, 2007, 07:10:36 PM
here it is.  I renamed it Strings, but it was Hero('s) Death or something like that.  I changed some notes, made the ocean sounds louder, ect.
Anyway, i want some opinions.  Should I keep the current instruments, or go with a viola and a contrabass(?), I can't decide.  :(.  Oh well.
Title: beauty and the beast music

wow... i dug this up from my files... i made this about two years ago, so don't laugh... that was when i didn't realize much about my program.  This song is kind of literal.  It is called Silence Broken... and well, it sure breaks the silence alright.
Title:

How Long Has It Been?
That is what I called it because that was the only thing that made sense to me.  PLEASE GIVE YOUR OPINIONS ON THIS ONE, AND ANY OF THE OTHERS I POSTED, EVEN THE ONES I POST OVER A MONTH AGO!!!!!!!
Anyway, I made a nice slow :violin: song and then... BANG!  it hits me, transition! Fast paced, eighth notes! :) Gotta love eighth rests  ;)
Title:
Post by: Boba_Fettuccini on March 11, 2007, 03:17:17 AM
I have to say, I'm not impressed with this 'How Long HAs It Been' its... noit alll that great, sorry. SOme of the chords were clashing, and... well, the bass needs some work... and there isn't enough.. how to put this.. deviation. It all sounds to similar. Not repetetive, but the instruments. I would suggest trying some instrumemnts out of the string family. But then again, thats just my view. I'm sure there are other people who would love it as much as you do =/
Title:
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on March 11, 2007, 05:13:07 PM
really, the one note note that is disanant in the middle is supposed to be.  That is where the transition is.  With the name... I kinda just gave it a name.  I couldn't really think of one.  If anyone has a better name, that would nice. And the instruments were just the ones I started out with.
Title:

_sweat_ this was my very first song with a base line like that, and I guess just went with the flow... i don't know what I just said either. I guess if you don't like it, you don't like it.

CAN ANYONE ELSE GIVE OPINIONS?  Or is it just a few people that look at galleries?

Fix up some more things on my FF7 Opener.
Added more dynamics
Fixed some notes
Added some parts
Changed that last note, and still can't get the right combinations of notes.

Title: Musical Part 1
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on April 15, 2007, 01:50:52 AM
Overture-

This song is played right before the actual musical starts.

Okay, I'm a bit if-fy on this one, in my game, I will have two different versions, a midi version and a mp3 version so if you have dial-up it would be faster to download the midi one.

Anyway, it sounds better an mp3 :P

Actually, it is just a changed version of my Sleepy Hallow and Fate of the Gods thing...
Title: Musical Part 2
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on April 15, 2007, 01:58:59 AM
The Orphan

Well, this song is well, for an orphan.  The song talks about her troubles, and her hopes.

Hope you like it!
Title: Musical Part 3
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on April 15, 2007, 02:03:03 AM
Knowing You-

This song is a character named Braeden telling the Orphan, Erin, that she is worth knowing.  (*Spoiler* There is a wedding scene at the end of the game*Spolier*) Anyway, it is right after The Orphan.
Title: A Musical, but, its from Cinderella
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on April 16, 2007, 08:51:39 PM
No, its not Disney's Cinderella, but Rodger's and Hammerstein's Cinderella.
It includes part of Ten Minutes Ago, and the Finale (Wedding, song is also heard earlier on as Do I Love You Because Your Beautiful? with the Prince and Cinderella)

I was bored during lunch today, so I wrote this.  It kind of tells a story.  Its slow, then it becomes fast, then ends at the same tempo as it began.

Dark Tale.
Title:

Title: New
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on May 10, 2007, 07:36:44 PM
Well, I made a song in my notebook, and originally, it was in a different key signature, but it sounded strange to me, so I made it Gb, Ab, Bb, Db, and Eb, and now I like it.  It is going to be used for my game.  Its a little girl's theme, the girl's name is Leya, and she dies.  So this theme will play at her death as well.
Title:
Post by: ZeroX5 on May 12, 2007, 07:39:47 AM
wow afl the midi's are really nice.
how are u making midi's ?

and the ff7 ballad - is it only cuts of other FF midis  or did you play it yourself O: ?

Leya's Theme is nice, too  but i think it could be more sad.
Good Job O:
Title:
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on May 17, 2007, 08:24:13 PM
thanks.

Here is one I did, it is a mix between a theme i made in my notebook and Hero's Death (which i think sounds better like this)
Anyway, here is theme 2.  Btw, could you suggest what this could be used for?
Title:
Post by: game_maniac on May 18, 2007, 03:32:25 PM
^Well it sounds sad, but not sad/epic enough to appear during an important plot point. Maybe during a few side-quests which have a sad  story?
Title:
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on May 19, 2007, 03:16:27 AM
Really, i wasn't trying for the sad effect on this one.  I was working for maybe a title screen-ish feel?  I was happy because all the faster parts at the beginning and at the end, I made in my notebook without hearing the notes being played.  I just guessed what might sound good.

Hm... I guess a side quest sad thing may work.
Title:
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on May 26, 2007, 01:29:38 PM
I was messing around with my clarinet... and yeah. Then I added a french horn, flute, alto sax, and a trumpet to the mix... and I got this.

Theme 3.  Based on Fate of the Gods composed by Steven Rieneke.  I took what I remembered from my oboe part... and played the fingerings of those on the clarinet to get a different sound.  And this is what I have.
Title:
Post by: game_maniac on May 26, 2007, 01:49:54 PM

Theme 6

The Transformation

Theme 7

This one I made when we found our our Band Director and Chorus Director were being sent to the elementary level (primary) at our school.  It made a lot of people sad.  (Chorus and band students get very attached to their instructors, especially marching band, we see our instructor more than our families sometimes)

So, Originally titled Goodbye, but, decided to change it to Theme, because its a bit short.  I may add more, but not now.

This one is for my game., A Forgotten Legend.

Where have you gone? Where are you now? I want to fall asleep, but I can't seem to close my eyes. Waiting for you to set me free, from this prison, I know you are on you're way!

I anxiously await your return, wondering what will come in return. Come and save me from this awful place, wanting to fly away with grace, can you hear me? Way, far way? Can you get to me? From far away.

Oh, help me today!

I know its a bit short.  I not completely done, so bear with.

Ok, I was messing with a song I made for the theme of my character Braeden, who doesn't die.  And I made this.  It is a sad version of his theme.  Crap.  I should of written in the storyline that he dies.  Oh well.  I would change it, but that would ruin the rest of my story.

Title: Marching Band Show - Young One's Sorrow
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on November 12, 2007, 07:40:06 PM
This time I made every last bit of it!  Yes!

The show is called Young One's Sorrow.

The show features the different areas of the band.

The show begins with Rivalry.  It begins to tell the story between three characters.  The third character (C) (M/f character) killed the first character's (A) (male character) mother.  Leaving a bitter hatred between the two.  The second character (-B-) (female character) is A's "best friend".  An argument occurds after the first few measure of the opener.  Tell us the back story as well as current issues.
Title:
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on November 12, 2007, 07:42:47 PM
The Ballad, An Unfortunate Meeting starts out light and happy, where A and B have a nice time together, then C come is in.  B is no more.
Title:
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on November 12, 2007, 07:48:36 PM
The Closer or Finale, Battle 'til Death is the last stand of A before C.  But, at the slow tempo change, A is no more, and C finally feels regret.

At the very end, C falls to the ground, feeling the pain of all they have hurt.

And that is the show!

Instruments:
Flute
Clarinet
Bass Clarinet
Alto Sax
Tenor Sax
Bari Sax
Horn in F
Trumpet
Trombone
Baritone
Tuba
Timpani
Xylophone
Vibraphone
Glockenspiel
Bass (Guitar)
(Cymbals)
(Gong)
Snare Drum
Bass Drums
Tenor Drums

Here's a Concert Band Arrangement called A Forgotten Christmas.  .Mus is available if anyone wants to see it.

I've been making MIDIs for a little while, but I've never uploaded anything yet. Maybe 'cause I rarely make anything more than 30 seconds long, and never anything that's even a minute. I always give up on every song I start because I'm not satisfied with the way it turned out.

Or maybe 'cause I'm just lacking confidence.

Anyway, please tell me if this unfinished, 15 seconds long piece is anything worth finishing.

Hm, the song is great so far, but it needs more of a melody.  The main instrument is good as an underlying part though.  The melody is what makes the piece. ^^

'Final Battle' or whatever you want it to be called, the instruments don't seem to fit the style of the song a good portion of the way through.  I like a bit of it, like the instrument you used as the main one (don't know it's name), it gives it a nice feel, but the beginning feels almost happy.  It's creepy o.o

It was my intention for the main instrument to be the melody, but come to think of it, it should work great as an underlying part. I'll get to work on adding a melody.

Also, added another MIDI I've been working on.
No wait, the site won't let me do that at the moment for some reason. Adding it later.
