Title: Final Fantasy VI-II
Post by: lazyeyesmoker on January 15, 2007, 11:27:31 AM
Alright im making a sequal to Final Fantasy III (usa) VI (japan) because it was my favorite besides VII. I have just started using rpg maker 2003 a month ago and im pretty decent at it. But yea some info about the game.

                                          Story

It takes place 4 years after they defeated Kefka. Everythings been normal for the most part. Its gonna start off around Terra she's been having nightmares and her esper powers have started going off again. Its the day of Celes and Locke's wedding and everything goes fine untill they hear about a disturbance near South Farigo. Egar Terra and Relm are sent to investigate not long after the wedding, then Evil Guy (Havent picked a name) Shows up. He opens up a rift and you get sucked into it. You have no idea where you are to find out youve been teleported to the esper world. You get the idea. Im gonna let you know though that this takes place in two worlds, Ruin World (shaped the same but grassy and not gloomy) and, the esper world where most of the story takes place.

Characters - Alright out with some old in with some new. Old chars are going to be in it but as NPC's. New ones are replacing them :).

                                           OLD

1) Stargo (Gonna pass away in this one, will be apart of story).
2) Umari (Gonna be in narshe cave helps you in a misson).
3) Stezer (Flys airship and runs the new casino im putting in).
4) Gyu (Stays with crazy dad now and takes care of him).
5) Celes (HAVE NOT DECIDED YET IF SHE"S GOING)

                                           NEW

1) Cid (I loved Cid in FF2 and FF7 so im gonna use a charset with cid from FF3 and edit him and give him a wrench battle animation, sound familer. His special will be Mechanic but im not gonna give what it does away ;] ).
2) Duncan (Yup Sabins trainer Duncan. Im thinking of making it so if you have them both you can do double attacks like the twins in FF2).
3) Balind (A esper form the esper world that joins with you later. His special will be him transforming into a big esper that you can play as like FF10).
4) Jamein (A powerful blue mage that appears evil at first untill later where you learn her story).
5) IF I GET RID OF CELES IM PUTTING IN ANOTHER NEW CHAR.

                                       RETURNING

1) Edgar
2) Terra
3) Locke
4) Sabin
5) Relm (grown up)
6) Shadow
7) Gogo (secret)
8) Cyan
9) Mog
10) Celes (undecided)

Ive got about 50 maps done and some charsets and such im going to post it all on my Photobucket which I made just for this.

Screenshots and everything.

Let me know what you guys think ill keep ya posted on the game and will post screens regulary. I may need help with the events sometime down the road, I get most of it but I still dont know a good chunk lol.

Demo will be comeing in the next week or two.

Ok I need some help people, I can make charsets, chipsets, battle animations, maps, story lines, and alot of that kind of stuff. But im haiving problems with a cms and some of the other hard stuff. Basically I need a ff6 style cms with just a few alterations and someone that can make it. If they can do that they can prolly help me with all the other complicated stuff I need done. Im not asking for a slave lol just a partner basically anyone intrested? If you are let me know and ill send you my project folder and we can get to doing this lol.

You're not making FFIII-2.

You're making FFVI-2.
Title:
Post by: lazyeyesmoker on January 15, 2007, 01:53:29 PM
Lol I know I decided to keep it III for some reason, sounds better to me.
Title:
Post by: Daetyrnis on January 15, 2007, 02:44:23 PM
A game titled Final Fantasy III-2 implies a class system, and perhaps the inlcusion of Luneth, Arc, Refia, and Ingus.

Don't refer to Final Fantasy VI as Final Fantasy III, just because Nintendo of America decided to obscure the fact that they weren't publishing FFII, FFIII, and FFV.
Title:
Post by: Oi on January 15, 2007, 03:21:57 PM
Yeah. Calling FFVI is like if Square translated FFVII.. god forbid it be FFIV, because that what it would be.

FF3 contains of Onion Knights or Luneth and that sort. I think you may call it FF3 in your mind, but I think this game should just be 6.

Mmmk Ill change it.

Hows this.

Post by: aboutasoandthis on January 15, 2007, 03:34:33 PM
I'm all for good/finished FF Fangames. I just have a few questions.

What will the battle system be like?

Why is it named FF3-2?

Why are some of the names spelled wrong?

And why are there a lot of cliches?
Title:
Post by: Oi on January 15, 2007, 03:37:10 PM
Yeah that actually does look better. Looking at alot of IIIII made my eyes sting.

And yeah, you mispelled Relm.
Title:
Post by: lazyeyesmoker on January 15, 2007, 03:39:08 PM
The battle system will be the same as its counterpart. Gonna add new tools, new magic, new blitz and what ever else pops into my head ^ ^. Oooo and everything clishe cause its all been done before hahaha.

It doesn;t look like you're doing any work on the characters.

Their stats are all basic.

And still wondering about the font.

Id like to see more town-Map Undulation.

It would help occupy the negative space.

Oooo tell me what you mean?? (examples)
Title:
Post by: lazyeyesmoker on February 05, 2007, 04:42:49 AM
Ha I think this is the final edit of Lone. Changed roofs and added a lil battle arena for later quest. I love the way the roofs turned out.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on February 05, 2007, 05:00:01 AM
There is still way to much open space, especially if you're trying to mimic FF6.

you don't mean that towered **** everyone is trying to pass off as the perfect map, right?   Some **** it just flat.  Anyways don't fill the space up; take it away if it has no use.

what i want to know is if the world will be back to normal, per se, or is the grass gonna be green, but the landscape the same? Or was it that the map of FF6 wasn't the entire world in your game.

I loved 6, and i'll definitely try it out if it goes anywhere.
Title:
Post by: lazyeyesmoker on February 05, 2007, 08:01:37 AM
Hows this?? The normal world map is the ruin world in 6 but normal like grass is green and stuff. The esper World is all new mahaha I get to play god (2 world maps). I want to know what you guys think of cids ability im gonna set up. Basically its called magitech and when you pick it he goes in that magitech armor and you can buy its abilty upgrades (attacks) heal beam, Ice beam, tech missle. Sound good? It would be awesome to set up an animation so it drops down and he hops in.

I like how it is right now. Don't listen to the others who are poisoned by bad map taste - they think cramming as much detail as possible will make a map instantly better.  ;)

That's what made Final Fantasy 6. The maps were crowded yet easy to walk around. And the layers were used almost perfectly. His maps have too much open space; it doesn't have the Final Fantasy 6 feel, yet.
Title:
Post by: lazyeyesmoker on February 05, 2007, 11:09:58 PM
Lol Well what you see above is the final one. It looks great to me and if you look back not all the maps were cramed Thamasa, and Maranda are some examples. I love the town I think it looks great after the modifications.

I really dislike people like you. Why do you post things for C&C if you're not going to listen to us and make changes?

As said before, the map is fine, but if you're trying to look like Final Fantasy 6, you need to close the space.
Title:
Post by: lazyeyesmoker on February 06, 2007, 02:19:27 AM
Im just gonna ignore that :). I didnt mean to offend ya I just need to move on I got alot to do.
Title:
Post by: blackskullwarlock on February 06, 2007, 04:32:57 AM
Yes, Thamasa and Maranda aren't as crowded as, say, South Figaro but it still has the Final Fantasy 6 feel. Why? Because of the small details the designers added.

Your map has a lot of grass, that's why it looks empty. The designers of Final Fantasy 6 changed the grass spots into gardens or gave the grass a natural feel thru the use of flowers, trees and other details. Never neglect details especially since you're doing it the Final Fantasy 6 way.

Friendly piece of advice.

that map looks very final fantasyesque, but they're right, way too much open space.  I'm trying to cut down on big spaces to I can sympathize xD

you're making me extremely nervous with this ffvi-2 idea. fan games are good and all...but when they are executed the right way. jumping into a storyline where you have "evil guy" who sucks the main characters into a rift sounds devastatingly frightening, especially when you get the ffvi fanboys like myself freaking out about how smooth the original story was, ya know? just take some time and let your thoughts gather and inspire you before you just forage ahead without a clear basis of the beginning/middle/end.

You can't really do this. You can set the four direction movement of the bridge, though, or you can make the bridge under-passable.

Slightly Harder Way:
You can make two maps using the same chipset (database). Then, make the other chipset have some important note in it that will remind you it's only for the bridge (like [Bridge] or something.)

In the regular townset, make the bridge passable by going underneath. In the new chipset, make everything impassible but the bridge.

Finally, copy the town you made and rename it [Name of Map]_bridge. Have it so that when you step on the entrance of the bridge on the regular level, it teleports you instantly to the other [Name of Map]_bridge map.

...Couldn't you just make an event that's above the hero that turns off after stepping on the stairs to the bridge? You could make some of them unable to move through, and have them shut off to make certain areas passable. Or will that work? I haven't bothered with RPG Maker in over a year...

Alright this is a map explorer NOT a demo haha. All ive been doing making maps and a little programing so I thought id show some of the towns off. I had alot of the teleport events set so they only teleport into the town not out. Which means you have to start the game over if you want to go to a different town ;). All of the towns are not done haha and some things may be off its not cause I forgot I just havent done it. ENJOY PEOPLE.

As long as you do better than the original Square sequels, you're doin' spiffy. *pokes FFVII Compendium with long pointy stik and shudders* Don't hurt us like that.
But yeah, your maps look really nice, and as far as fangames go, you don't seem to be going down the "OMG IT WOULD BE SO AWESOME IF THIS HAPPENED!!!!!!!!!!!" route. Cuz that would suck.

Obviously you don't know Lufia. Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals, was actually a prequel to the first Lufia.

And to remain on topic, those maps are nothing amazing as they're simply a copy of FFVI game's original maps. It's a good replica but it's still just a replica.

I just took a look around the topic and I think your maps are good right now. The replicas are, well replicas, but I think the fact you made them
from scratch and it looks just like the original is worthy of compliment. Da Vinci might be a great artist because he painted the Mona Lisa, but someone who can copy his work to the smallest details ( as a tribute to the original work, which is what he's doing, not plagiarizing) is also a good artist.

As for your original maps, yes they do look quite different from the FF6 ones, in a bad way, but I think you'll eventually get it right. They're not actually bad, just inferior to FF6.

I salute you for putting so much effort into this, which shows you're a true fan, but right now I say: go easy with the story. If you're not so good at story-telling, get help from someone. I think the part where most fan-games fail is in developing a plot just as good, or maybe just slighty worse, than the original, and getting the "feel" for the characters.

^ good map, it looks less empty than the others. I think it looks just like the FFVI Style. The only part I dislike is those stairs seperating the inn from the shop in the middle, looks a little unnatural to me.

Btw, if you need help with your story, you shoul check the team storyline topic like FL said.

It's not kicking as such, because it was only six days old, but Lazyeyesmoker hasn't posted in this topic a while so I wouldn't expect a reply any time soon.

Kicking is bad because we don't want a lot of dead topics filling up with spam and staying on the main page. Stop posting in this one and wait for Lazyeyesmoker to come back.

Nice! The font is fantastic. Having tried custom fonts myself, I know what you went through. :P

Curious, though, how exactly did you get that as a raster font?

Its not as hard as it looks just no one explaines it. Download Softy and edit the rmg2000 Font. When ur done replace it with the font in ur rgpmaker folder. Then make sure u also replace the font in ur windows folder and then ur done. I looked online forever untill i just eventualy figured it out for my self.

Ah, cool. Thanks! I didn't know about Softy. I was using some German app that allowed you to select other fonts. It only let you use raster, though, so I was so limited it was almost pointless.

A little about the progress with the story and alot of other stuff. I didn't like the intro I made so I tossed it and redid it now it's way better but thats about it. I have begun to work on the story though and it comeing along good. With the menu i've gotton the timer working along with the money to show. Also i've got the save working so you can only save when you go on a save point. Also you can go to the item part of the menu and go into it and scroll around but I haven't made any working items yet but I do have most of them made in the database. I've been working on weapons, there animation, and some skill attacks (like Edgars Drill, Chainsaw, and Crossbow). I've had alot of time so ive been getting alot done. I do need to find someone to look at my menu and try and set up a positioning system for the characters (4 characters in the party have to be able to move into a different order and have to have you be able to switch them out for like 10 other chars lol I dont know where to start). So yea theres been alot of progress and if anyones good at scripting Cms let me know I got a good start on it. Ok picture time.

Didn't know how to do that mode so im going with ff4 style airship

Two new chars with there facesets in corner also useing Cid's facset from FF6 advanced now.

Last one is of the menus timer and gil working not much I know.

There ya go guys hope you like the update also if anyone wants to see the intro let me know. I want peoples feedback and want to know if you guys like how its gonna start.

Yay!
It's still alive!

In criticism:
The world map looks a bit dark, especially when compared to the indoor maps, and parallaxes

Sorry to burst your bubble, dude, but unless you are a whole games development company on your own, and a good one at that, you're never going to make a sequel worthy of the Final Fantasy title. Nobody is. I'm not saying it's because it's you or anything, I'm just saying that 'sequels' to RPGs often turn out terrible because the makers think that using everything from the previous game just with a character or two dead and a bunch of cliches will result in a good sequel.

Instead of using a Final Fantasy game as a gimmicky way of creating an RPG, be creative! Stand out from the crowd! I can see you've got a little potential in you. Use it properly, my friend. Also, you're going to want to fix up your grammar. Never make mistakes as blatant as "Hey whats up are you ill?" in a video game. It should be, at the very least, "Hey! What's up? Are you ill?" Even that sounds bland and inhuman.

I apologize if that post sounded harsh. I am merely trying to bring you away from the dark side the mainstream, if you see what I mean.

That are you ill thing wasn't meant to be proper, it was just a test lol. I've been working on this for a year and a half now, so I'm gonna stick to it. People just have a harsh view on sequals because there usually very poorly made. If anything looks poorly done to me I redo it :). Yea I'm gonna use stuff from the previous game, but I also make my own Final Fantasy 6 style chipsets, and charsets. Nothing will be as good as the original, but Final Fantasy 6 fans will for sure enjoy this game.

Post by: wella on January 26, 2009, 03:43:21 AM
Well, I'm glad to hear that. In fact, I'm glad that you disagreed and are persevering. My only advice would be not to try and clone FF6 just using a different, crappier storyline, because 1) you won't be able to and 2) people won't like it. Instead, give FF6 some sort of spin or twist, as it were (not necessarily in the storyline sense).

Good luck! I look forward to a demo!

I here you, and I appreciate the advice. I'll make sure I don't throw a crap storyline in it, that's why I redid the intro lol.

Post by: wella on January 26, 2009, 08:26:54 AM
I see. Well, I'm very glad you're the sort of person who actually listens to advice, especially someone who's making an FF fan game/sequel (if you know what I mean). It shows that you care about what the players think, rather than what you think. Good sign.

Sorry 'bout the major topic kick but this game sounds freaking awesome. If you need any help on the storyline, i've played the origanal FF 6 and can really help you out on the plot.

P.S. Whens the demo comig out? I'm really looking foward to it.
