Title: My game
Post by: forgetaboutit on January 17, 2007, 09:08:54 PM
Normally, when I start a project, I just make it for five, ten minuts, then I stop, because I am not good at making original stories. So, I have a idea for a new game: the whole game is going to be an abs, and one map, like a arena, where you are going to figth with the enimies. You may be thinking: wow, this game is the worse thing I ever seen. But you will can use magics, combos, and many other things. Any help would be good. I dont have screens, story, or name yet.

I wasn't thinking the game would be crap, I was actually pretty interested.  ABS' are awesome, but look forward to critics unless your willing to upstage metal tears, because even I said that my ABS was stupid. o,o  it had a good story though, a very good story.  lots of time warping, and....evil liches....

if you need an arena (I think you said so) maybe consider different kinds of arena's to create a good environment for the different monsters.

example: have the base room where you ask some dude who you wanna fight, then you go through the door and you go into a different map (one for each challenge, not that big a deal to use 15-25 maps instead.  atleast its funner than) let's say the first arena is a battle agains lizard men, perhaps instead of an arena, then there is some kinda machine that makes the arena sorta like a forest environment.

that's easier and IMO way cooler than just a little arena. ;D  but if you don't wanna do that then your choice.

if you go with your original idea, you should request an arena chipset or look for one already requested.  character sets....

for my ABS mini game I just used one animation for attack, and if I remember right its just with the character with his arm raised in a slicing motion.  all and all, the game sounds cool, but I suggest doing it on XP, or atleast doing it on 2003, 2000 is not good for ABS

pretty cool. :)  if you go with the environment changing arena thing, then just tell me and I'll help you out chipset hunting.  :D

Here's a possibility for a base arena looking thing, or possibly a desert theme challenge.

PS:

Yes. Lizardmen in forests is something that is really hard to come up with.

It's funny actually, I was thinking of making a sort of gladiator game too!
But I didn't had much of a story and such, so I didn't do it. But I guess I can share some ideas.

For the story, you can make it like that the Hero is a slave that became gladiator and has to be the best gladiator to be set free...ok, that's a bit ideas-stealing from the movie 'Gladiator' but hey...it IS a gladiator game :D.
Or you can do it that the hero does it for revenge(the owner is his arch-enemy or something) or for power, wealth, to be famous...
About the revenge story...how about this: A man(the villain) made a new game for the citizens of a certain town: a gladiator arena. People get imprisoned and then have to fight against monsters...Just for the pleasure of the people!
Ofcourse, there are protesters with as their leader the father of the main hero.
The villain kills (ofcourse) the parents to stop their protesting...right in front of the hero. He now becomes gladiator to defeat the villain...

You should make a lot of different "arena's" with different "levels" to complete. When all levels of an arena are done you can go to other arena('s)...

By fighting, the hero gets exp so he can learn magic and combo's. At the end of levels he perhaps get money to buy new items and weapons?

These are all just ideas, you can use them all if you want :D, just trying to help!

Sure, It looks good.

But you better think about why he enters the tournament...and I always thought it's weird that in RPG's monster gives money...(no offense, my monsters in my rpg's also give money but in ABS it looks a little bit weirder, I think).
Using holograms can be difficult, but if done right, it can work out very well.

That doesn't look bad at all! But I should put more plants and flowers to fill up the area.

PS: In my previous post, I typed a grammar fault:

PPPPPPPPPPPFFFFFFFFFTTTTTTTT. sorry about the caps, but you give up too easy.  what happened to you man?  this game had potential.  this game could've been very worth while.  but no, you go and quit. _veryangry_

So? I have to study too!

If you quit that much, then why even start with gamemaking?

I have troubles with sticking to the same project too, but now I got through the hard part(of coding a custom menu) and now I love to continue making!

The point is, don't quit so easily!

Ps: Have a nice trip

Title: Ever play "The Gladiators of Rome"?
Post by: Krynth on February 03, 2007, 02:01:22 AM
Well its the only game I've played of its type and seems alot like what your making... Well I dont think that game even had a story that or I didnt play story-mode idk its been a long time....but there isnt always a story or is just a lack of it in some games...

Try reading up on some gladiator history it should help alot giving you ideas and the type of stuff used and all...

May be wrong but I think the majority of it were slaves and brigandes fighting for their freedom...then later became a sport....

If you're good at making a game but bad at making a story, you might be just the person the Community Contest is looking for. If you're interested, check out the threads there and if you want to help as a programmer/mapper and such, say so and I'll send you a copy of what we have so far.

Of course its just when I think of arena other than the game called "Arena" I think of fight club or gladiators even though there have been other games I've played with an arena in them but not as an abs...

I have'nt seen any futurisitc though...

There's already a game with an insanely awesome ABS. It's called Furious Angels.
