Title: Charas' Past
Post by: Razor on January 18, 2007, 12:44:39 AM: For the wiki, we're (SaiKar) working on the history of Charas, which as you know is filled with various events. However, we can't remember everything.

So we need members who've been around to tell us the big events they can remember! Even if you're moderately new, post in this thread anything major you can remember.

Right now, we want some information on the pop/kairou scandle.

The Respect List. Originally started by Ghostclown (I think), it sparked many people to start hating each other for not being on each other's respect lists. The fad died out pretty quickly, but FFL has had his ever since.

Oh, and what about that time when people made the "Anti-*insertmembername*" avatars?

I don't know off the top of my head, but I made a passing comment to them being popular in my LiveJournal. LJs are actually a pretty good source of historical stuff.

He was a great guy, and one of the few users who would comment people's games with criticism, instead of "your game is teh bestest" and he got flamed so badly for his honesty that he ended up leaving.

Umm, lets see, we changed the layout back when I was a newb. When rm2k3 and rmxp were released, it caused a lot of contraversy over which was better, finally rmxp got accepted here. We had carmen and gc demodded or whatever, that was big.

Do we really need a history of charas? Its not like some cool history like the roman empire or anything, its just.. charas.

Oh yes, the big colour change. That was a big change (and so much for the better).

And yes, we need it. Because we've got 4+ years of history (if you include the precharas board that Alex and friends used).

We even had tarot cards in our signatures(courtesy of me..). We started up the whole scare where everyone thought DF was going to kill himself and that it was all our fault. That whole thing kinda started in his blog though, if I remember correctly. Then Me and Desi got like, temporarily banned or something to that effect.

As true as that may be that guy came down on me hard as hell.
Man that was a great topic/s!!! He did admit that he was mean about and did give his sorries months later, but, whatever..

Me and RRWP, huge fight, over fan games, as being the first game you make.
Blah Blah Blah, long story short, I made my fan game and RRWP left.
Due to me becomming a mod.

Suggested to Alex about allowing Charas to be open for public viewing which brought in a lot more of you nubs.

Umm me becomming mod and modding my team.

I had nearly 8 gigs of resources, and thats not counting midis and only about 15 % of that was monsters and I did rips and made a few sprites and one chipset for peeps.

Me making a post about sticky topics which drove them away...kinda.

and that's all I've ever done for Charas.

Please do so if you can. A lot of the old topics have been deleted by now and it's extremely hard for me to find reliable specific info and dates outside the private forum.

In other news, I'm still working on the history. I'm up to the part between when Alex got married (end of September) and when Lord Raffles showed up (December sometime?) I think I'm going to break each era down into two parts. The first is essentially what I've been writing now: the main big trends and policies that appeared. The second will be the part everyone will like: the short-lived fads that everyone got excited about that aren't related to the "plot" of Charas, so to speak. Things like respect lists and anti-avatars and the big NO BITMAPS! thing. This is the second that I imagine people will be adding a bunch of stuff to that I forgot.

Keep giving your random memories! Even the vaguest thing can cause someone else to remember it in more detail.

The funding crisis? I remember a big thing about raising money for charas, with donations and such. I tried to start a group that made resources in return for donations, visualising the best of charas' spriters to jump to the idea, but it was just me trying to do requests which I couldn't do :p

The introduction of the new smileys, wheras before we'd had the same few forever. But that's pretty recent and minor.
