Yesterday, me and four of my friends went to... I dunno how it's called in english... car exposure..? Anyway... at some time, we all went to the last floor cause two of my friend wanted to try F1 simulation. I sat on a bench, few meter away, with the other, and then we heard a weird ''Bang''. At first, we thought it was a car that made that noise. But then, my friend saw that lots of people went look down the stairs, so my friend thought that maybe something had fallen. We went there as well, looked down, and from where I was, I couldn't see properly, but I could clearly see a hand. Some guy had fallen from an equivalent height of 5 stages, something around 15 meters. That's where the noise came from. We went down a few floors, so we would have a better view. Ambulance men or whoever they were were trying to heal him or I don't know... the ambulance then took him to the hospital. When I watched the news at night, they talked about it and said his death was confirmed at the hospital. I'm not sure if they meant he died in the hospital, or if he was death already but that they tried to reanimate him at the hospital but didn't succeed, but I'm pretty sure he died as soon as he... landed... the guy was 15 years old...
Why did I feel like telling you? I don't know... to think that someone died a few meter away from me... made me feel like talking about it to some people... although I'm pretty sure the question has already been asked before and probably more than once, did something similar ever happen to you?

Reminds me of when Maude Flanders died in the Simpsons.
-
There have been a couple of murders in my small town, about a week within eachother a month or three ago. But I never actually witnessed something like that.

in no is that funny razor. how did he fall? what happened? did he just jump or what?

I was predicting a response like that.
Since Cerebus didn't mention it, I'm assuming he doesn't know any of those details.
-
If he jumped 15 m onto a solid surface, I'd imagine he was doa.

Spoilers: I never said it was funny. I said it reminds me of the time when it happened.
Protip: Read posts more thoroughly before replying to them.

Which, if I remember correctly, wasn't even a very funny thing to start with.

Oh, yeah, how he fell... quite stupidly... he was leaning on the stair's, err, ramp? It was a mechanic stair, I don't know how it's called in english... google translator says 'escalator'. Anyway... he leaned on it, and for a reason I ignore, he simply fell... dunno how, maybe he tried to sit on it but failed...
He fell on some metallic surface above the entrance. We thought maybe he could have survived, since he didn't fall on the floor directly. But, well, he didn't.
-
Hmmm... I don't think I've been present when someone died before. Though my ex-step-cousin (long story) got hit by a car when riding his bike. The car was running a red light too. And he was 15, it was really sad.
And yes, it's called an escalator.
-
Well, it all depends on how you land. For example, if your parachute failed during skydiving, just try to land on all fours and you'll only suffer major fractures in the arms and legs. You can use that to survive a fall 2000+ feet(~223+ meters) in the air.
Anyways, the man should have easily survived that unless he:
1) Fell on his neck and broke it.
2) Hit something on the way down and cracked his skull.
3) Fell on his head and broke open his skull.
Those are the only ways in that setting that he could have died from a fall. I mean, 15 meters roughly translates to about 135 feet, which isn't that much. People have fallen 300 feet (~33 meters) and survived with only a broken leg.
Yeah, it sucks, but people are idiots and do stupid things.
-
Yeah, not to be mean at all, but that guy was most likely stupid. Who would sit on an escalator's banister and not expect to fall?
“Survival of the fittest” is how Herbert Spencer would have put it.
-
Not sure exactly how he landed. But since he fell backward ( or I think ), I guess he landed on either his back, his neck or his head. By the time I could see him closer, I cold see blood coming from his mouth, so I'm not quite sure...
Yeah, well, I don't know if that is the reason. I said maybe he tried to sit on it. If he did, then yes, I must admit it was quite stupid from him.
-
Wow...that is quite sobering...
Let's hope he rests in peace.
-
Yeah. Landing on your back will kill yeh to, and you have to understand, that even if he didn't land on his head, trauma from landing in even a non-fatal position can cause fatal injuries as a aftershock.

I've had a friend die in front of me, as well as two strangers.
Having a friend die is a million times worse.
-
Oh my God I know that emoticon.
I've read that whole story. Tragic. Ending was confusing though.
-
Basically what I thought was that he was in a coma until medical breakthroughs allowed him to have both robotic limbs and robotic internal organs.. which was yet another sad thing in his life, because instead of meeting his family in the afterlife he had another few years of unhappiness tacked onto his life.
-
Yeah that was all logical, he met a fellow vet and exchanged stories.
Then he thought of his family and threw something in the bin.
Can't figure out what that was.

Poor you, you deserve a hug. *hugs Mr. Mister*

Can't say I have ever witnessed anything like that. But I believe the mechanical stairs is an escalator (sp?) and the "car exposure"? Do you mean like a car museum or car show? Where you see different cars?
-
Yes, I guess it could be a car museum.

How?

I never actually SAW somebody die, but I live close to a train station and the train rails, so I get to listen lots of suicides close to my place.
Such a terrible story... I'm sorry you had to witness that Cerebus.
-
I've seen people die next to me. I got over it.

I don't think that's the "how" he was asking.
-
Mm, I think he meant "how'd they die?".
I haven't seen death. My childhood friend died pretty young though, that was terrible although I didn't witness it.
-
I've seen folks die. People die, whatever.
