Title: What to do when you cant sleep
Post by: DragonBlaze on January 31, 2007, 05:36:30 AM
So, I'm not sleeping at all tonight. Couple of reasons why, but thats not important. I don't feel like playing any games, I don't feel like working on any games, and I'm trying to think of something to do for the next 8 hours before I go to school. I was thinking that myabe I'd write out my entire game plot for my next game, which is going to be really long. But I don't know.

Any of you ever get this problem? What do you guys do when you can't sleep? I've spent the first 30 minutes just sitting here, but that got kinda boring after a while.

I'm an insomniac. Meditation helps.

Werd. Seriously, I can stay up for so long if I just chill, or go to sleep if I do the same. When you're mellow, you can do a lot more stuff.

Yeah, I'm pretty much mellow right now..

So anyone else want to stay up all night with me, come on, it'll be fun!

All night's not my thing, I'm normally up tp 12-12.30ish. Talk to White. He's got a pass and it's already like 6 AM for him.

I'm up all night every night. I enjoy it, though, since it adds like 8 hours of free time onto my day.

I'd do that, but I've got school and such still.

I can always sleep if I want to. I just don't want to some times. Those times I spend on MSN listening to music, youtubing or watching animes / tv shows I downloaded / on the telly.

I can usually sleep if I want to. Ever have that thing though were somthing is nagging at you so bad that you can't think of anything else, and then you can't go to sleep? Well I have that now...

Edit: Its really lonely here early in the morning :(

Seems I'm not the only insomniac here (I pretty much have the same sleeping schedule as MrMister). O.o...

Personally, I draw... Somewhat like meditation for me, dunno if it'd work for you though.

You really SHOULD try harder, without REM (Rapid eye movement phase.) your mind can't transfer short term memories into long term memories, so although you CAN stay up forever, you shouldn't, I don't care who claims you should, your brain will stop functioning properly.

Try going to bed earlier, so there is less stress about getting to sleep, and you can take your time to calm down and relax, and try to not move. Looking at a clock is a bad idea, if you're going for a good eight hours at least, looking at a clock will only remind you how much sleep your possibly going to lose, which will stress you a little bit, resulting in sleeplessness. (Awesome word.) Try Nyquil, it'll at least put your mind to rest.

SLEEEEEEEEP!

Sometimes you just can't sleep. Anyway, I went to bed around 5, maybe a little after, I got up at 7, so I got a full two hours of sleep.

REM sleep helps your mind recovery, stage 4 sleeping that comes before REM helps physical recovery.

Anyway, I'm not tired at all. REM acts like a stress reliever, however, other things can relieve stress as well. REM helps store long term memory, but it isn't needed for long term memory.

I try and make a bet with myself:

"I'm not going to sleep all night!"

After that, the sleep just kicks in.

I keep turning around and around, and if I'm not asleep yet, I drink a bit of water and keep trying. I love to sleep, though I sleep little ^^

Hmm...That doesn't happen to me very often...But I do remember it happening a lot when I was in 9th grade (it was stress--I'd go to bed at ten, wake up at around 3:00, and not be able to go back to sleep).

Try drinking some tea, without putting too much sugar in it. Also, try listening to a calming song (I listen to Lilium before I go to sleep).

If that doesn't work, then read or draw, or do something mentally tiring (tetris? Sudoku?).

You can achieve REM purely through meditation, which is what I have to do.

Once I went to bed at 12:15, because I wanted to get up moderately early the next day.
But then me mother came in after about 15 minutes to see (as I later found out) if I could do some inane job. I didn't move, so she thought I was asleep.

So I just lay in bed for the next hour or so. Awake. Only able to think and hear, but not sleep. Then around 1:30 I gave up and turned on the TV, where there was only crappy late night TV informercials and stuff.

Around 2 I have up completely and decided "Hey why the hell not" and watched the Director's Cut Blade Runner DVD I have.
That ended at 4, and then I went to bed and slept till 10.

That night really sucked.

Why not do what I do?
Sleep.
If you don't sleep for a week at a time, it's real easy.

I got AIM drgnblazex

I used to have msn (my AIM with a @aol.com at the end) but I haven't installed msn since I got vista on my computer last month, I'll do it eventually.

I slept really good last night though, but I kinda miss all the free time that I had the night before  :(

Suffocate yourself. If you do it right, you'll sleep good, and you won't die. Can't guarantee keeping your brain cells, though.

trakata meditation is good for getting in a dream-like close-to-sleep-state

Pseudo-sleep. I start to imagine that I'm sleeping, and picture what it is that I would dream, were I sleeping. Sooner or later it comes true.

I'm pretty sure he's gotten to sleep by now, we can stop telling him how to sleep. :)
