Title: Mod Tryouts
Post by: Osmose on February 01, 2007, 01:29:29 AM
On account of my supreme awesomeness, amazing disposition, and good behavior (mainly the last one), I have been promoted to Global Moderator! I'm sure you're all very happy for me.

Of course, making a thread solely for congratulating myself is uncouth. That's why this thread has a second use - the sign up thread for moderator positions! There are three forums that need mods, or, more accurately, two mod positions to be filled:

All of All Moderator - My former position. An All of All mod needs to be familiar with most of the community. It helps to be well-liked, but that's hardly going to be the determining factor. Rather, a respect for the rules and a good head on your shoulders is something we're looking for. AoA mod has to watch out for flaming and trolling and take appropriate action, but at the same time not be so strict that no one enjoys posting. It's balancing these two that makes AoA one of the hardest forums to mod.

Tutorials and RPG Programming Mod - These forums are similar enough that they are going to have the same mod (Only exception being if the person we pick is extremely opposed to being mod of both and only wants one). To be mod here, you have to have a good knowledge of RPG Maker. The principle role of the mod in these forums is to help people with their problems, although you also need to control anyone who causes trouble in your forums. You need to be willing to give helpful advice to most people, and not be an *** about it if they're asking a common question.

You can apply to one or both positions, but you can't get them both - you're going to be chosen for either AoA or Tutorials/Programming, so if you apply to both remember that it's our choice which one you get.

Try to explain why we should choose you for the position you want -  if you say, "I want to be mod of either one because I'm well liked," your chances are lower than if you explained how you've helped members and gave a few examples. Anyone can apply, but only two will be chosen.

Let the games begin!

I'll apply for Tut/Programming. That's one of the forums I'm generally helpful in, and I do have a good knowledge of RPG Maker. I've also made quite a few tutorials, but my two most recent ones got deleted by someone :P.

BTW, congratulations on the new posistion.

Cool, Global. I'd like to try out for AoA. I'm pretty good at keeping a level head and keeping the order of things. I hope that explosion in the Warxe trial won't veto me out, I was having a shitty week and that confession blew the cap off my usually low-pressure temper canister. In opposition to me, I must state that I'll be a little busy for the next two or three weeks (and prob'ly from time to time after that) with real life stuff, and that I tend to take sides on things that affect me or my way of thinking, but I try to show a respectable side when I have a job to do.

And besides, if I'm a mod, I won't be able to pull my usual annoying **** without punishment... Or at least not without minimal punishment. :p

I'll try for All of All. I've handled Test & Welcomes awesomely. It's time for an upgrade. Ya know. I've been fair and kept a level head.
I'm a bad dude but I moderate well.
And I've been extremely loyal to Charas for 4 years.

I'll apply for Tutorials and RPG Maker Programming.

I have a good knowledge of all things RPG Maker, so I can help out with people's problems and post some tutorials.  I'm overall a nice guy and have a high tolerance level, so I'll help people and be patient with people having trouble.  I've been around since early 2004, so I know the place and how things are done.

I'm on almost everyday here, whether it's to lurk or post.  So I'll see what happens and I won't let anyone be an idiot in my respective forums.  Plus, I'm known around here and I don't think anyone dislikes me.

And finally, congrats on the position, Osmose!

If no one else meets your liking, I'd happy to be All of All mod.

I know I'm not here a lot, but that'd change

(won't be surprised to not be chosen)

I've been an All of all regular for (at least some of) 3 and change years and right now am in very strong approval of how the board is being run and feel I would fit in well with the system.

First, congrats to Moose. He's been working well on the staff and has helped out with a number of problems when they pop up. The appointment is mostly ceremonial; he's had a lot of authority around here anyway, at least in my mind.

About the positions, yeah, no public elections this time. They're good fun but a bit tiring, and I don't know about you guys but I wouldn't mind a bit of normalcy around here. Even so, the positions need to be filled and I'm not sure who should get what.

In the next couple days, after everyone is done signing up, I'll be looking around, talking to the rest of the staff, and getting feelings on who seems to be able to do a good job. I'll try to keep my personal feelings out of it and focus on the facts. Hell, even Meiscool, whom I said sometime last year would never get a mod position while I'm admin, will be seriously considered based on his merits.

I am taking this seriously. The staff probably is taking this seriously. The rest of you can take this as unseriously as you want. Feel free to campaign in any non-annoying way possible. I might as well say it right now; I really like the propaganda aspect and that will probably play a small but existant factor in who gets the job. Mods need to be fun too.  ;)

I would like to be moderator for the All of All boards, seeing that I have a good sense of judgment and have the ability to use my logic instead of beliefs, and I hold a lot of experience with the forums and most members. I think I would do a fantastic job with this, seeing that I am also fair and for the most part unbiased (By for the most part, I mean unbiased towards everyone who matters. (AKA Not Meiscool.) I also have a lot of spare time to check the forums regularly, seeing I have access to my home computer AND laptop during the school day.

I stand behind and communicate with a lot of charas members regularly, so I always have a good idea of what's going on, and what possibilities may happen. After as long as I've wanted it, and as much garbage I've had to go through to get it, I'd sooner resign (Not going to happen by the way.) then go totally mad and try to do something dramatic. I'm not well liked by the common members, going to show that I hold no favors or bias's for them, which hinders not my judgment, and I feel that I could do a great job keep the All of All board a well behaved and civilized place.

I know I'm not very much of anything, but I'd at least like to prove my ability to uphold my responsibilities. I'd like to try out for All of All mod, dispite probably being the last choice on anyone's list. If you take a look at someone my died-out threads, you can see I'm not one to give up easily. In the future, I will try to calm down and become much more mature than I have been lately.

Everyone makes mistakes, it's common nature and I apologize for making pages on the Wiki on a whim. I have decided to stay away from that ever since every single one of my pages came under question.

I am on almost every day, doesn't that count for something?

I do not need, "Ed's a noob", "lol Ed as mod" posts please. If no one thinks I should be one, then just let this post be carried away with the others.

On a more positive note, Congrats Osmose! You've earned it.

MrMister for AoA. Him and Charaman are the oldest members applying, and it really should be between the two of them, so my vote goes to MM.

I'll sign up for the turorials and rm programming. I'm good with all that stuff, and now that I only go to school 4 hours a day, and 2/5ths of the school day is on the computer, I have plenty of time for charas again :)

Anyway, I'm pretty good with most anything related to programming in rm2k/3/xp. So vote for me, and I'll give you a cookie :)

Congrats Moose.

I'll run for AoA, but my vote still goes to Charaman if we're voting.

Reasons why you should elect Draggy.

1. Has experience of modding forums. Got the thumbs-up from Trevlac for God's sake. :D

2. Rarely gets into major arguments with members.

3. Nearly got in last time, and would like the chance to prove himself.

4. Doesn't want to be beaten by MrMister again.

5. Unbiased, due to having no friends to side with.

6. Uses the forums frequently. On for an hour or two practically every day. Plenty of spare time.

7. Committed. Not likely to go missing for days at a time.

8. British.

9. Would prefer to make Charas a more calm, civilised place, rather than one which is full of spam and flamers, or one that is run by MrMister.

10. Has good spelling and grammar, so hopes to set a good example to other members.

11. Isn't in this for the power or the status.

12. Capable of making decisions for the good of Charas as a community, not what a few people think would be good.

13. Can make long, drawn-out lists like this one easily. Would possibly be good at writing lists of rules or something.

But good luck to everyone applying. We need some new blood around here.

I'd like to apply for all of all.

I've been a member here for 3 years, and while I may not have an insane number of posts, I post when I feel it is necessary. I believe I am rather well - liked on here, as I have never truly been a jerk, and have never, or very rarely, had fits. I am currently not workin and not in school, and I tend to be online a lot of the time. I have been a part of many teams to help users, as well as creating threads for requests. I have never been rude to anyone who asks me for help. I suppose that I am a rather quiet member, but I am loyal, and I am unbiased.

Well, congrats Osmose, and good luck to all the other people running. I hope that I am seriously considered by the mods.

Also, on a rather unrelated note, wat has happened to midnight? She hasn't been online at all for over a month. Not trying to be a jerk or anything, just curious.

PS: If anyone contributes to the Wiki (Such as uploading some tutorials or fleshing out the RPG Maker article or basically what I've been trying to get you putzes to do for a week [ I even went to the front page to no avail, you lazy jerks ]), you'll get major points and headway to becoming a mod.

PPS: Because Sai is having a fit, no, it won't give you major points (It will make me intensely happy, though, and that is always a good thing)
Title:
Post by: SaiKar on February 02, 2007, 12:30:56 AM
You can't run for "either". First off, nobody is "running" since this isn't an election. I just want to know who is interested. But more importantly, you need to pick one or the other position. No fence sitting! Pick a side!

Ace's "Why are people voting? Can't you read, we don't care about your opinion" is gold, though I don't mind seeing who people support.

Also, good freakin God! I wasn't expecting the entire forum to volunteer. Thanks for the loyalty and all that but it's going to make my decision proess hell.

Anyway, carry on. It'll be a few days before I start to narrow down the choices.
Title:
Post by: Archem on February 02, 2007, 12:33:42 AM
Yep, that's us. The whole forum. I think most people are in it for the, ah, "glory" of being a mod. But hey, if they can do a good job, mebe they deserve that glory. Or they get de-modded. Glory = no.

EDIT: BTW, since Osmose brought it up: I've contributed a bit to the wiki in the past. SysOp, yo. But I have been a little busy IRL, so my contributions are a little on the smaller side.

Little Riker and 'What the Christ'. The wiki should not affect the decision at all. The fact that I've modded Test and Welcome responsibly, tastefully, and sensually should be what influences your opinion of me as a candidate, 'dudes who are deciding'.

Lol, I see how the system works :p

Anyway, I'll get around to adding some things on satuday, don't know what exactly to add yet, but I'm sure I can think of something uber amazing.

We're not really 'running' for mods, but we're kinda volenteering/signing up, which is pretty much the same thing just a differant word, since this is kinda an election, just the mods or whoever in power is the one that is going to do the electing.

If by "the mods are the ones doing the electing" you mean, "The mods tell Sai who they think should get the job and hope that he agrees with them, because if he doesn't, then they're out of luck", then yes, we are the ones doing the electing. :P

I agree. It should not be open to the public, as it will become a popularity contest. Besides, just because someone's been here for quite a while, doesn't mean they know how to mod.

A mod must be dilligent and search through manny threads in search of anything against the rules and/or harmful to other members. He must not just bask in his/her glory and absorb the knowledge of power. A mod can be a terrible thing if all he has to go on is his time spent here.

(Not directed at anyone, just stating my opinion.)

Razor, after much thought I have decided that I don't like you any more.

Oh, and I'm standing down and not running any more.

Well since the whole forum is volunteering...  :D

Actually I do think I could do the job, the Tutorials and etc. mod.

Despite my low post count I have been a member of this forum since 2003, and though I don't post often, I am still on the site often, I read most of the threads, just choose not to post. I have ample time to do the job, as I do nothing but sit and play on a computer all day at work. I'm more than capable of finding answers to people's questions and making sure people aren't spamming/flaming when someone asks a dumb question.  I been part of this community for 3 years now, it's bout time I started doing something proactive!

so, yeah.

Go me.

Post count doesn't really mean much, but really, to be a mod, you should really be involved in the community more. Involvement shows dedication, and you need dedication (among other things) to be a good mod.  :|

Mr. Mr. -> Sure, he´s loyal to the forum and could be a good Mod. Though I´m afraid he might delete lotsa posts outta nowhere during a "trip" :D

Apex -> Same as Mr. Mr. Not the trip thing though.

Charaman -> also a nice guy, but he kinda has his flip outs...

Meiscool -> Nice member too, but not responsible enough to be a mod. Kinda guy with tendencies to delete a lot of all of all posts. And that is evident, while Warxe's was hidden within...

Dragonium -> Awesome guy too, would make a good Mod...Though he can get into arguments sometimes, and he´d have to refrain that feature of his...

Who else was interested again? I like making reviews on people ^^

And pray tell me what you could use as an example to prove my responsiblity? I havn't been given any here on this forum yet, hence I, and you, can't prove anything.

I can say though that I once modded another forum, seriously, and was not strict, nor ignorant, and I most assurly havn't abused my power to do anything Warxe has.

MrMister was about the same as me untill he got modded, and now he no longer causes nearly as many problems as before. People change when they are given responsiblity.

And his love for me is overwhelming. It's like a giant gay orgy of love, topped off with a barrel full of love estrogen.

Question: What about Forum Gaming? Are you just gonna let that be?

Oh, and also *obligatory rant about patronage being too much a feature in Charas politics*

Forum Gaming doesn't need a mod. If there's any serious flaming going on, either a mod will see it and notify a gmod, Razor or Sai will see it and handle it themselves (I don't read forum gaming), or a normal member will complain to a mod. Nothing happens often enough in Forum Gaming that no mod is necessary.

MrMister. Now. While I may have volunteered myself just for the hell of it (and after a few words from Sai awhile back. I love you hunny ;) ), I seriously think MM would do a good job.
