The world: eDriTh. A desolate little rock rotating around the much larger gas giant known as Artrogzir. To any intelligent being that observed it from a distance, it would look unremarkable - but anyone who landed on it would be much surprised. For not only is the world habitable, it once was host to a great civilization - the Gziriua Empire.
The inhabitants of the world, called Gzirthins, built their empire on Purity - a unique energy that was said to be provided by the gods. For nearly a millennium, the Empire ruled justly.
But like any utopia, there was a secret. The Emperor, a greedy and lustful individual, desired more than the political power of his office - he wanted the magical power of a God. Using the combined power of the Purity Machine and his Senate, they summoned forth a long-forgotten god, and all three parts amalgamated into one being. Calling itself Impurity, it destroyed nearly all Gzirthin civilization on the planet, as no number of warriors could destroy it. In desperation, the gods sealed the demon away; but the damage was already done.
Now, the Gziriua Empire is no more. But in their stead, a race known as the Risen have come to prominence; they are said to be reincarnations of heroes across the universe, though this is folklore at best. For the most part, the Risen mind their own business, but in the past few years, the rate at which Risen spawn has dropped considerably. This, combined with the resurgence of Mindless Risen in many parts of the world, and the fact that most Risen cannot reproduce sexually, could mean the extinction of the race. Many people have looked for a solution to this problem, and almost all believe that the Impure One is responsible. But what is the true cause? And will they find it in time?
.:CHARACTERS:.
You may have picked up on this before, but if not, the Risen are the embodiments of fallen heroes across the universe - so expect to see a lot of fictional characters from here on good old Earth. That said, there are some "original" characters, and the world itself is original (though many of the locations are inspired by other sources). This isn't some lame excuse to bring a bunch of VG characters together - it's a full-fledged game, and the addition of the unoriginal Risen is peripheral.
That said, here's some of the major characters:
-Link (from Legend of Zelda series)
Age: 16
Battle Style: Mixed short-and-long melee attacks (drawing from his arsenal in the games)
Yes, the main character is Link. He once again plays the role of the stoic but courageous protagonist, although he won't be completely silent. (For those of you about to stone me, remember that it's my game, and I can do whatever I want. :p) He lives on one of the small islands in the Alraise chain, and is employed by the nearby village of Kori as a monster hunter.[/I]
-Vassa (original)
Age: 16
Battle Style: Long melee (bow and arrow), magic - Status-Enhancing, Healing, Nature
Link's "sister" (they were spawned at relatively the same time, and they live together now). Though she appears to be the role of the calm magic-user, she's quite the opposite - she has a fiery temper, and never backs down from a challenge. She is, however, slightly more intelligent than Link, and often acts as his "mouth". She is also a monster hunter, and arguably has more experience than her brother.
-Samus (from Metroid series)
Age: 24
Battle Style: Long energy (beam weapons and missiles, as well as upgrades to her suit)
A world-famous bounty hunter, mostly due to her futuristic Power Suit. Though she'll take any job, she has recently been focusing on her efforts to rid Alraise of the Mindless Risen (read: monsters). She acts as Link's mentor for the first part of the adventure, and the two get very close at a later point in the game.
-Warxe (original)
Age: 20
Battle Style: Limited short melee, magic - Ice, Water, Healing, Summoning
An apprentice summoner under the tutorage of Shadow (see below). Though relatively friendly, he doesn't reveal much about his past for whatever reason. He also serves as the "encyclopedia" - when something mysterious comes up, he knows at least a bit about it.
-Shadow (original)
Age: 62
Battle Style: N/A
Acting as the "mentor", Shadow is the leader of a group called Shadow's Light, which Link becomes a part of. His vast knowledge about nearly everything makes him ideal for this role, although, like Warxe, he has a relatively mysterious past. He is one of the few mages on Alraise capable of astral projection, allowing him to see events that happen far away, as well as helping the party out at certain points.
-Contra (original)
Age: 58
Battle Style: Short melee, magic - Fire, Status-Decreasing
A renowned naval leader, Contra served in the Alraise Navy for a short time, but grew disenchanted with it and subsequently became a pirate, where he is known across the seas as "The Captain". After a brief retirement, he joined Link's party as the head navigator of the S.S. Syldra, and occasionally helps out in missions.
-The Avatar (original)
Age: None
Battle Style: Magic - any type, as long as it's powerful
This evil entity serves as the major antagonist for most of the adventure. It seems to want nothing other than to rule and/or destroy the world, although it's physically unable to do so - it instead employs a nearly limitless army of Mindless Risen. Many people believe that it is the Impure One, or at least an incarnation of it.
Of course, those are just the major ones. When all is said and done, you'll have a team of about 16 playable characters. In total though, there'll be about 20-25 playable chars.
.:GAMEPLAY:.
As can be inferred from the above profiles, the battle system is real-time. It'll be similar to Super Smash Bros, with 2-D battle screens and multiple levels (And before you say "that's impossible to do in RM!!!!", I say (to quote Pierre Trudeau): Just watch me). But that won't be the only system used - during certain points, I'll be emulating classic games in the RM engine. Expect to see such varying systems as Pong, Tetris, Super Mario Bros. and Phoenix Wright. But this isn't just a compilation of mini-games - as I described, there is a very real plot, one that I've been working on for a while. And all of those games will factor into it.
As for the game itself, it just uses the default map engine. But because of the large cast of characters, I do plan on using multi-party dungeons a lot. Monsters will be randomly encountered, but there will be some map abilities for puzzles and whatnot.
.:GRAPHICS:.
Now, despite the ambitious coding for the project, the graphics will be, on the whole, average. I'm going to do all of the charsets (and faces, probably) in my style, but maps, battle sprites, etc. will be whatever I can find on the tubes. There is an in-game reason for this (other than laziness, which is a factor), but it's also because I'm not too good at maps or spriting. I don't think having a uniform style adds anything to the game, nor do maps that take 3 hours to do one 20x15 square - they look nice, sure, but they're not necessary. In other words, screw you, Meiscool. :p
.:MUSIC:.
Again, I'm going to use music from whatever sources I can find. But I will have a lot of it (my current library of MIDIs numbers 500 or so), and there'll pretty much be a unique piece for every situation. I'm working on some of my own compositions, but there won't be very many.
.:CAMEOS:.
Because the concept I have works so well for cameos, there'll definitely be some. The Charas Pub has a role in the story, as does a village populated entirely by Charas members. But I'm not going to take requests for cameos - those will be given out at my discretion alone. So don't even bother asking.
Unfortunately, I don't have any screenshots right now, as the early version of this project is going to be drastically redesigned. But I'll get those to you, as well as a demo of the battle system when it's done, ASAP.

this looks cooooooooooooooooolllllllllll....... I will crush you into volcanic dust (I made that possible :P) if you don't finish this just a warning.
-
So it's a Multi-Fangame with a bunch of OCs and an actual plot? Seems difficult to pull off, but good luck!
-
Sounds like you've designed this game with no thought as to what others think. You're making it for yourself. Awesome.
-
Sounds like a game I won't play.
Still, good luck; and if the screenshots look good, I will check it out.
-
What kinda graphics are you going to use for the battle characters? ToND3 would be a good choice for SSMB style combat, if you didn't already know that.
Also: *screws self*
-
It sounds really cool... but just seems kinda vauge to me. Battle system sounds really interesting, too. Good luck!
-
Desi, it seems vague because, as always, there's a bunch of twists in the story that change the plot significantly. I'm about... halfway through the plot write-up right now, and I have further ideas that will come from out of nowhere (in a good way, that is).
MIC, I'm probably going to use ToWNK edits for the original characters, but I'm just going to use whatever I can find for the others. Again, the clashing of styles might turn off some people, but they don't deserve to play it anyways. :p
-
Warxe you spaz XD
This looks cool man, but when are ya gonna get to that series that you've developed with all that histroy? I've waited for that for damn near two years.
-
lol fangames suck gtfo n00b.
Looks cool, but I agree with ZKX, your original stuff is what has my attention.

I've started making my own sprites of that style. If you want to see what I've got so far and maybe use em, just ask. I doubt if I'll ever use em _sweat_

ZKX: This is part of it. Several concepts used in my other stuff will turn up here (albeit under different names). Again, the Risen themselves are peripheral - it's the race that matters in greater Iseo System history.
MIC: I'd appreciate that, man. It'll give me an idea as to how to go about editing them.
-
I'd probably rather like to play something original. But for a fan game, this doesn't seem to bad, theres a lot of interesting stuff to it at least, so it should turn out pretty good.
Good luck.

This is a fangame as much as an original RM game with the title "Final Fantasy" is a fangame. I don't mean to sound defensive, but it's a completely original story, with original characters, locations and the like. The only things that are unoriginal are the likenesses of some of the characters.

I like you. :p
Edit: Now that I've finished reading it, I like what I see.

I don't have a whole lot, but my biggest edit is below.
Also, the sprite in the lower right is from castlevania. You might want to use that style too.
-
That's pretty cool. What character is the sprite edited from?
BTW, the Castlevania edit looks cool too, but I don't think I'll be using that style of sprite - the ones I have now are more "cartoony", if you know what I mean.
Also, I'm working on the basics of the battle system. If I work uninterrupted, I should have a tech demo up sometime tomorrow.
EDIT: I'm thinking of using different health systems for each player (eg. Link has hearts, Samus has energy tanks and a bar, Vassa has a standard HP bar, etc). Would this distinguish the characters, or just be an annoyance?
-
It's a big edit from the female's priest jobclass. The sword is completely custom, the colors are taken from my RPG character's sprite.
And yeah, I know what you mean by cartoony. SSBM wouldn't be as cool as it was if it wern't so cartoony.
As to the energy/heart thing, it might be cool, but I would rather see a % bar.
-
I'm already doing a pixel-based realtime SSBM-style system in RPG Maker; now you want me to do physics? >_<
I mean, I don't doubt it's possible (I was confused by pixel-based movement a little while ago), but I don't feel like doing it right now. For now, we'll use HP/hearts/rings/etc.
