Post by: forgetaboutit on February 05, 2007, 01:15:52 PM
========
----Story----
========
Is said that when the evil threatens the world, a warrior should born, to stop the darkness. You, a young solider from the kingdom of Aera, was at the middle of a battle, when a enemy knocked you. You wake up in a temple, where a monk tell you about your destin. You dont belive him, and knock out the monk, then run away. When you come home, your mother and brothers where kidnaped by the enemy army.
EDIT: i know the history sucks, if anyone have a better idea, please tell me :D

Seriously though, can't there be another reason he has to fight the evil? why does it have to be every 1000 years, why did he kill the monk? Why not just knock him out? Also, the lone soldier bit has gotten old. In addition, it sounds as if the opening of the game is going to be a dream sequence and he wakes up from it to start his quest. A big and annoying cliche.  The biggest problem though is the dead family, every freaking RPG hero (exception Crono) has his family killed off at the beginning to free him of attachments.

How bout something like this.

Whenever evil threatens the world it is said that an ancient hero will be reincarnated into the world to stop it. The game could start with the soldier in a battle maybe, after being victorious something causes him to faint, he wakes up in a temple with a monk explaining things to him. He doens't understand so he knocks the monk out and runs off. He gets home to find his Mother gone, perhaps taken prisoner, his sibling wants to help him find her but is too young, so he is left at home, possibly to be following the hero around later.

Just some ideas.

Yeah, all in all, the story seems very genaric, and rather boring :( Make some more interesting things to it that'll keep the player wanting to play the game.

You're gonna have to think of a story on your own. If you make a game based on someone elses ideas, its not really your game. Plus, you'll probably lose interest in it after a little while once you think of something you like rather than something that just someone else likes.

If you need some help coming up with a story, I made three tutorials on making stories (one for the intro, the story itself, and the ending). You can find the links to all three in the 'top tutorials' thread in the tutorials section of the forum.

Risus Fantasy Cliches (http://codepoet.org/~markw/risus/fantasy.html)
 The Grand List of Fantasy Cliches (http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Labyrinth/8584/stuff/cliche.html)

All fantasy but a large list of cliche's in them...

Blending some real-life history into a story is always good as long as you subsitute the names and dont go by the history completely...

Edit: You can even base some of your character's history/personality on yourself or someone else...

Allows things to be more realitstic and the player could relate more to the pc in some way as well...

I dunno, I kinda like the idea, sounds an awful lot like how zelda started and it got famous, ofcourse, most likely this project will be dropped so what ever *shrug*

That's the point, Domincy. How ZELDA started. Not necessarily how this game should start.

Good luck with stuff though, Lucas. Are you new to Rm2k? If so, this'd be a fantastic game to start with, testing out making a game. Everyone should really finish a game for themselves before making one public.

1.You don't suck at making games, you just value the opinions of others far more than you should.
2.How is waking up from a dream to start and RPG cliche? I can't remember of a single game that started off with a full on dream sequence. Chrono Trigger had the waking up but no dream, and Xenogears had the dream but no waking up - it was more of a flash forward to the future.
