Title: RTP Game
Post by: Pythis on February 06, 2007, 11:43:56 PM
Well, the main character is Jack, he's a young boy from Yaverin, a bad, poor town in the even worse country of Urik. Urik neighbors a place called Yova. Yova is a nice place to live, it had resources, money, and space. Urik desperately needs to send some of their towns and villages to Yova, since they have the space. Urik is currently over-crowded, and they don't have enough food and money to distribute fairly. Jack wants to go to Yova and he won't change his mind. After seeing his friend, Kyen, slaughtered by Tigers in hopes of saving him(which he does.). Jack must search for a way to get to Yova, he devises a plan at the age of 5 to get to Yova, but it would take many years to complete. He could only prepare for his plan -- a trip to a place which would bring him to Yova, without anyone knowing.

Here's a screenshot of the short-ish intro, which I just made today.

The reason for the crappy RTPness is because I want to make the game first, same coding, just with RTP. If people like it, then I will make another version, with revamped graphics and perhaps more features. Maybe a sequel.
Title: Sorry about the double post

Here's an attatched version of the screenshot, I can't see it using imageshack, I tried 4 different links.

I recommend PhotoBucket (http://photobucket.com/)  to store and display your pictures.

I find the whole "devises a plan at the age of 5" thing hard to believe.  If this isn't a comedic game, that part will be very weak.

Maybe it's not an elaborate plan.

Maybe it's like a

"I'll get there, someday."

Kinda plan

Well, I won't reveal the plan, but that plan doesn't further the game in a very drastic way, it does reveal some info though.

But like, most people barely remember what they did when they were 5.  Not to mention recalling details of a master plan created at that time.  Besides, the problem is the mental capacity of a 5 year old.

If your friend was mauled by a tiger, I think you might remember that from the age of 5.  I'd probably remember that even if I had Alzheimer's.

But, for the sake of being cool, make him.... 7, at least, before his friend is eaten alive. /SUGGEST

ditto.

anyway, I like the story, and the title    lol, actually, I don't, since its not really a title.  that was a funny ZKX, don't you even dare jump all over me about that. *stares*

anyway, I like the story, so, you have my support.  its very original.

I hope you know that when you tell me not to jump over you, it's hard to resist not doing it right? If you hadn't said that I couldn't have cared less.

Pythis, I've still that lesson you gave me on CMS item menus in my PMs XD

Heh. Sorry for the lack of updates, I lost my computer =( well, now I can continue work on the game. I'm happy that no one is jumping at me for my head because I'm making this in RTP. BTW, I remember you, ZKX. Charas has spell-check now? Nice.

EDIT: Good news everyone! I got RPG Maker XP thanks to my birthday! Woohoo! I will be using this from now on.

Title: Town Shot
Post by: Pythis on February 14, 2007, 12:14:20 PM
Here's a pic of the first town. Yaveirn. Possibly the best mapping I've done!
Title:
Post by: Moosetroop11 on February 14, 2007, 02:13:25 PM
I don't think it's the best mapping you've done. You need to find a way to get different buildings, and definately have less open grass.

I think the only problem is that you make the town as a whole. Try making the town bit by bit, starting from a corner. Think in terms of what the player will see in game.

EDIT: If you only want minor criticism, then the mountain within the fence is a bit weird. It might look okay closer up though. *Shrugs*
Title: Chimney

Whoa!  What is with the chimneys?  Are you sure you are using them right?  How about trying this:

the only advantages to XP is really justa bigger (normal) screen size, no 256 colors :), and the fact it has a scripting option.  the disadvantages are that your can't upload movies to your game, and there isn't a shortcut to making teleports.

yeah, there's a button if you right click (well, in my case left click *cough*lefthanded*cough*) but, if you do, then a menu will pop up and one of the tags is create teleporter or something, and then a menu comes up and lets you choose where to teleport to.  not that helpful, I just use the normal way.

Wow, lots of replies. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to try mapping the town again. I chose XP mainly for the scripting options. It makes life A LOT easier.

Fah, I never use that shortcut anyway.

Why is the map called "Ellenburg", yet the town is called something like "Yaveirn"? In the screenshot of the map, I mean. A;so, your chimneys are screwed up.
Title:
Post by: Pythis on February 15, 2007, 02:57:31 PM
I WAS going to make that another town, but I decided not to, but I never changed the map name. I erased that map anyway, however. Here's a pic of part of the intro.

Post by: A Forgotten Legend on February 15, 2007, 04:21:17 PM
I never thought you could use the crystal set that way.  How did you do it? Did you just put the characters beind the crystals?  Or make a completely different character set thingy? (Iforgot whether they call them charsets in Xp or character sets)
EDIT:  Oh, scratch the character behind the crystal thing, I just realized that would work right :P
EDIT AGAIN: I just remembered that XP has a third layer plus the event layer.  I hate that tileset because of the sides of the curved parts of the walls.  I tried using it before and it was really bad. :(
Title:
Post by: Pythis on February 15, 2007, 04:36:11 PM
I'm using another charset I got off a resource site.

Lol, yeah. I did had to do a bit of work getting some working scripts. XD. Anyway, currently working on the database a bit.

Post by: A Forgotten Legend on February 17, 2007, 04:52:45 PM
I suck at scripting.  Anything other than the default looks neat to me.

I hate XP. The fact that ANYONE can use it to make gold turns me off. I'd rather work with 2003, because most people don't know how to work it like I do :p
Title:
Post by: Pythis on February 18, 2007, 02:22:46 AM
My game making skills are pretty 1337, but there are some things I could do a lot better on RMXP than 2k3. Such as menus, battle systems ect.
Title:
Post by: Tomi on February 18, 2007, 02:33:34 AM
2k3 > XP

Nice game anyway.

My Day/Night system. Made it myself in a matter of minutes. Works great.

This is the battle system at work!
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on February 19, 2007, 02:03:48 AM
Yeah... I've seen that whole "Dash Sneak" system everywhere. You're not just using scripts made completely by other people, are you?
Title:
Post by: Pythis on February 19, 2007, 04:15:15 AM
Only the battle system. RMXP is limited because it doesn't have the key press command thing.

The first boss battle!

Is that a large bee?  I can't tell.
Title:
Post by: Pythis on February 19, 2007, 07:26:22 PM
Yes, that's a large bee.
Title: oh.
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on February 19, 2007, 07:55:29 PM
:hi: <- that does not look like hi, it looks like I'm hitting myself in the head.  That is what I mean for it to look like.
Ok, I guess you just enlarged the bee character set?  Looks like it.  Why are the two characters at the bottom on top of eachother?
Edit: You may want to fix the wings.  Looks a bit strange.  Maybe find a different picture for the bee?  If the bee didn't move, you could use the monster pic for the bee, and use it as a picture.
Title:
Post by: Pythis on February 19, 2007, 08:43:40 PM
The bee does move. When adding party members, they overlap .

Post by: Pythis on February 20, 2007, 06:00:26 PM
Here's the screen size selection.

The screen starts at small screen, I just F12ed after picking full screen to get back to screen selection to show you guys.
Title: that's neat.
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on February 21, 2007, 09:02:52 PM
I guess a lot is possible with the right sripting.  All I can do is edit script, and only at a small degree at that. :(.  Like the title image.  The font for the title is a bit weird though...  whatever floats your boat though.

A suggestion for you, Mr Pythis.....

When Night time activates, you should rig it up to change your overlay. The cloud cover's ground shadow is funny. Even just raising the transperancy would help.

Also....

Your windowskin......

Um.......Can I use it? Ive never seen it before, and Id like to use it as a base for a skin Im making.......Is it from a resource site, or is it origonal?
Title:
Post by: Pythis on February 22, 2007, 01:51:51 AM
Oh, right. That's the old version. In my latest Day/Night, the clouds disappear during night. And the window skin is off a site.
