Title: The end of the world
Post by: Rowan on February 27, 2007, 04:30:57 AM
Out of all the possible outcomes how exactly will the world end? Global warming is still on the rise, but even then the effects wouldn't kill out the ENTIRE human race. Some people spectate that the human race will cease to exist because of bacteria & viruses. (AIDs, STDs, flu.. etc..) People also spectate that the world will end via man destroying itself.

How do y'all think the world will end?

(Please excuse my Southern American talk :P.)

The world won't end because of desiese. Natural selection will prevent that.

The world won't end because of global warming. We're still coming out of the ice age, the earth goes through this cycle every 100,000 years or so, things will go on.

Man destroying themselves may be a good idea, but before it comes to that, we'll probably do something about it. We won't go to a nuclear winter because no one is stupid enough to start a nuclear war.

The world won't end. IF you believe in christianity, you can believe that god will end the world. Otherwise, the most likely cause for the end of the world would be some form of natural desaster such as a comet.

Heres my theory...

The world/human race wont come to an end.
Life will change. But not end. For christ sake, we can live through Ice ages, we are the most adaptable creature ever....we have opposable thumbs.

Godzilla would be sweet though

A great big monster fight between Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidora and Barney. XD

Pretty much makes as much sense. It was a joke. Barney's song goes "I love you, you love me." Apparently you didn't catch that I was makeing a parody of that. Or were busy using some hard to understand minced English and capitalizing words for... who knows what reasons.

Look! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humor)

*sigh* I hate having to explain a joke then some random guy gives me a hard time about it, usually with minced English. Last guy that did that stuff to me was Kairou. He had as much of a humour gland as a lump of clay. -_- Very... very... dull...

It is a pet peeve of mine.

A) No. Although I respect where you're coming from, you have your facts rather broken. Under the circumstances that every last human is killed, that species would become extinct. Presumably eventually the environment would return to normal (that alone would take a long time) and become a paradise for animals.

Under the circumstances that we have a repeat of the dinosaurs (gigantic collossal space junk, killing most life on the planet), then assumably after millions of years, life would eventually evolve from these small cells, but they would not be human. Nature does not work that way. Think of how dinosaurs are the ancestors of modern day birds, except that's a really bad example because of how dinosaurs evolved and stuff and I really just wanted to mention how cool that is.

In summary, cells do not work that way.

B) Actually that will take 4-5 billion years. Good news is that with the expansion, the sun will lose some mass and, by the time the sun's expansion reaches where Earth is, the Earth will have moved back a bit, escaping its horrible wrath sort of.
The bad news is that regardless of this escape, the water would have been evapourated by the horrible horrible burning.
The worse news is that humanity by then would most likely have been removed entirely.

Apparently, around my 56th birthday or so, a giant space rock is going to **** us up anyway. 2043~ I think.

How many times have people claimed the world would end by now? Sheesh... you'd think people would get tired of predicting uncertain doom.

Im not religious..

But almost any natural disaster that will occur, there will always be those crowd of person with signs over there head saying "Gods Wrath is upon us...."

Just look at the Westboro Baptist Church and 9/11...

Though, (unlike alot of the other comments.) Ill respect your idea of "humankind" will never end. Its another possible theory.

Actually DF, Nostradamous, and St Malachai, both said the year 2010 as the end of the world. St. Malachi also predicted the end of the christian church. We'd have the pope born under the half moon (John Paul II) then the false prophet would follow him, and then, shortly after, the unholy Peter would destroy the church, and the world. Odd isn't it. And he predicted every pope in order, so it's not possible that it'll be like 200 yrs til the false prophet. No, the Nazi Pope is the False Prophet.

Nostradamus scares me. 0o;;; but he's alright all the same.  its just alittle freaky since with how things have been going, his divination is real.

Actually Nost/ never said the "End of the world" was coming he made predictions for a great war and societal upheval.

He also predicted things about human life up to the year 3000.

Read.
Title:
Post by: Shady Ultima on February 27, 2007, 05:30:22 PM
Well, I don't really believe in Nostradamous, cause I haven't read his whole thing, only bits of it, which anyone can take to mean anything.

But the St. Malachi is rather creepy. I don't really think the end of the world will come with the end of a religion though.

I dont think its so much "end of the world" so much as the "Peak of my awesome that overshadows all else" was being predicted

To me the world will end because of that material things tend to die and dissapear. Still I don't care much for the subject, if doom comes, it comes, you can't stop it.

I agree with Darkfox's Barney theory XD

"I know you, you know me, let's destroy humanity"

I'm thinking we shall be smoted by a giant fireball.  We have no defenses against this, and we've already dodged a couple dozen bullets over the last few decades... probably a lot more before that as well.

And at the end of that one guys long list of popes?  The End.

This could be interpreted several ways.  He could have meant the end of the church, the world, the world as we know it, war, peace, or a dozen other things.  That's the problem with obscure prophecies;  you can't really say 'that's what that is' except in retrospect.  Now ain't that a bitch?

That comic Razor posted made me fall over laughing.

I am a Christian, and I think we will get some form of the Rapture. My guess is that the sun dies, and we'll have seven years to live before the earth freezes over.
Title:
Post by: DarkFlood2 on February 28, 2007, 12:00:15 AM
Umm.. We're not going to be around when the sun dies. Its impossible for a human to be living on Earth at that point in time. That is simply because the sun will die about 1.1 billion years after it swallows the Earth in its red giant phase, which is only about 6 - 7 billion years away. Not to mention that there is the fact that as the sun stops burning hydrogen and switches to helium, its going to bake the planet.

Don't forget that before the sun even destroyes the earth, we have to think about the fact that in about 3 billion years the Andromeda galaxy is going to collide with ours and possibly wipe out our solar system.

So maximum we have about 3 - 3.5 billion years.

Even if the earth was able to survive all that AND humans managed to survive on earth instead of relocating, then yeah, we would freeze to death.
Title:
Post by: Bluhman on February 28, 2007, 01:21:25 AM
Mace-In-Headism states that the world will end in a glorious blaze of fury. See, the celestial mad scientist will eventually discover his purpose as the destroyer of worlds. Already, legend has stated that he destroyed the Andromeda galaxy three years ago. We just don't know yet because the light takes much too long to reach the earth for us to realize in time. In addition, much longer ago, he managed to destroy almost all of Pluto, but was stopped when he suddenly got a stomach cramp from that day's lunch, which was a rancid tuna sandwich.

As the last two legends have so far been true, the third and final legend, is that the mad scientist will destroy the earth using his mace. He's already started his grand swing toward earth. However, his lethargic movements cause him to take very long to do so, and so the earth won't end in another twelve years.

Anubis is gonna be severily pissed off because of all the crap that Richard Dean Anderson did and he's gonna come with a flock of Ha-Taks and wipe us all out. We would be able to save ourselves using the Atlantean ancient weapon that's buried in Antarctica, but Al Gore's team of global warming activists caused a massive earthquake there with all of their drilling and such, which collapsed the weapon's location and barried the whole room underneath many layers of snow and thick ice. Not even Anderson's knowledge to modify the ring transport beam will be able to melt through all of it. Damn.

The end of the world will come when Bill Gates and a team of computer geniuses decide to make artificial lifeforms in cyberspace and then they succeed and the creations gain life but then start coming into the real world along with a virus that begins devouring them and Bill uses the computer geniuses as shields and locks himself in the closet and then the stock market crashes... some other stuff happens like Jim Carey gets elected president... and then all the valcanoes erupt with chocolate and then there are several explosions on the Earth, the earth falls out of orbit and hits Venus, then hits Mercury and then they all crash into the sun causing a supernova and every planet gets crisperized... except Pluto which turns out to be a frozen ancient monster that thaws out and terrorizes neighboring aliens and then they are killed, their planet falls out of orbit, and their sun explodes and crisperizes every planet...

Or... aliens invade us and with a lazer cannon thingy takes out every world capital at given times. And we can't blast them because they have potato shields... until two unlikely heroes fly up in one of their own ships and installs a virus that causes their spuds to fry and then they get defeated by human jets fireing missiles (lol).

hum, then there must be variations of the story.  I never heard of skoll actually.  and by dragon I meant the serpent of midgard.  what I read about norse (I think that stuff is norse) mythology of the wolf fenrir eating odin and the midgard serpent eating the planet after X number of years.  I 'unno, I'll have to google the name Jormungandr.  I'm curious about this... :sweet:

Jormungandr IS the midgard serpent. Skoll is the wolf that chases the horses of the chariot of the sun, chasing it around the world. When ragnarok comes, he manages to catch up and devour the sun, resulting in darkness.

skoll being the moon and the chariot being the sun? and I never knew the serpent had a name other than that actually.

I totally wrote a piece on Ragnorok from Fenris' point of view for my creative writing class. Also: Super-AIDS. I didn't make that up. Someone (Who was in a lab coat) told me once about AIDS and the cold virus fusing together to create a virus with the strengths of both and the weaknesses of neither, IE, the effects of AIDS but spread through coughs. This could, I'm told, very easily destroy humanity.
