Okay, I know what you guys are thinking. "Another CD thread?"
Yes, another CD thread. My old one is too far back to bring back. But I promise that this one is here to stay. I'll be reposting all the bios and stuff like that, but the screens will be as updated as possible. Anyways, here it is.
Story-Part 1: In the Beginning
200 years in the past, there was a prosperous world that flourished in it's technology. This world relied on its natural resources to fuel its machines. This world had only one continent on it and it was named Kelevor. All were welcome to live on this singular continent and the people lived in peace. However there were a few that hated their world with bitter rage. A world where everyone can get along? It was absurd to them. Everyone had their differences and they didn't like to share it with others. So they formed a pact known as the Arakian Seven. They rose up to the top of the worlds economy and soon gained enough power to have an indirect control on the world itself. As their power increased, they needed to appoint a leader. So a man named Kedrak broke away from the Arakian Seven and became the new leader of Kelevor, leaving the Arakian Seven and changing them to the Arakian Six.
Story-Part 2: Evil Within Itself
As Kedrak and his Arakian Six gained more power, they were soon feared around the world. Nobody would have thought that someone would have hated the world to such a great extent, that they would actually try to rule it and change it for themselves. As time went by, Kedrak grew tired of his control and set out to seek more power, more control. He wanted to advance the worlds potential, reach out past this planet and onto another. He was truly set on doing anything to become legendary. He searched through Ancient texts, ones that were written in the times of great religion and came across a discovery. He discovered the "Seven Soul Flames". Ancient relics that have been here since the beginning of time. He gathered information on their locations and went with the Arakian Six to find them all. The texts turned out to be truth rather then myth. Once Kedrak had obtained all the Soul Flames, the world began to change. The machines would break down and the buildings would crumble. Civilization was beginning to be destroyed by the imbalance that Kedrak had created by bringing all the Soul Flames together.
Story-Part 3: From Death Comes Birth
As the years past and the world continued to crumble, Kedrak soon realized that this power would soon destroy the world he was trying to recreate. So with the knowledge he had gained from the texts, he discovered a way to extract the essence of the Soul Flames and create one item. He named this relic the Star Stone. This stone had the purified power of each Soul Flame. Now, Kedrak could return the soul Flames to their resting place without disturbing the balance of nature. But upon creating this stone, Kedrak had unleashed the fury of the Soul Flames and accidentally opened "Pandoras Box". The skies turned black as the world began to change. Kelevor began to have massive earthquakes. Earthquakes so fierce, that it ripped the continent apart and separated it into four separate continents. As this was occuring, the Soul Flames were flung back to the far corners of the world on their own, resulting from the negative energy of the Star Stone. Voids in the sky began to appear everywhere. Beings came from these voids. Monsters and un-explainable creatures appeared and multiplied throughout the world. This continued for days until, in an instant, everything froze. The skies were black as death, and there was not a trace of breath anywhere. At this time, all the voids that had appeared failed in comparison to the void that had engulfed the entire sky. As Kedrak gazed at the sky, he saw black life forms pouring out of it. They rapidly erupted from the void, and soon, engulfed Kedrak in a massive dark aura. As this happened, the Star Stone began to glow, and it shined a magnificent light across the world. Within a matter of seconds following the light, the skies cleared, the void had disappeared, and the chaos that had been awakened began to settle.
Kedrak had unleashed unto the world beings called Zylacs. Created from the Star Stones energy, they began to roam the world, and destroyed all technology as they saw fit. Kedrak was never to be seen again, and the Star Stone as well. Now the Soul Flames lay hidden. They were never bothered with again, for fear of what might happen again.
Story-Part 4: A New Age of Man
Now, 212 years since those events, in a time of war over government, a familiar threat to the world is beginning to once again unfold. Although it hasn't surfaced yet, underground companies are conducting secret conspiracies. Also the technology that used to exist in the past is beginning to be rebuilt. Although Zylacs still roam the world, over the years, people have gotten a little more defense against them. Little is still known about them, as they are very hard to track. Their attacks seem random, but are always well thought out and tactical.
The story begins with the hero Skylar. A young man who lives deep in the Underground. Permission to leave the underground world is strictly forbidden, unless you are purchased a "favor". Usually, these favors span the length of 1-3 days of admission to the surface world. Lucky for Skylar, his best friend has gotten him a 2 day favor. But unknown to Skylar, is that his favor is about to be extended.
-Main Characters-
Skylar Lancaster
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/Skylar-1.png)
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Weapon: Sword
Description/Bio: The Hero of the story, Skylar doesn't really show any forward momentum to save the world. Since he no longer lives on Kelevors surface, he has no intention of saving or helping it. Skylar is a trustworthy person and trusts other people quickly. This usually leaves him in rough situations but he relies on his friends to help him out of them. Haru is his best friend since they were babies and although they have their fights, they always have each others back. Skylar is a person who wants to help others, but by being the "nice guy", usually gets burned. Skylar is not really the fighting type, but he can hold his own against a tough opponent with his skills with the Thunder element. Skylars soul calls Zelith; the Yellow Soul Flame. Although at first he won't accept it, the events that take place while he encounters it will show him the truth. But when something happens to Skylars Soul Flame, Skylar soon realizes that he can no longer be himself anymore.
Haru Linaf
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/Haru2.png)
Age: 18
Sex: Male
Weapon: Double Swords
Description/Bio: One of the less mysterious characters in the game, Haru is Skylars childhood friend. Haru first met Skylar when he was 2 years old. He boasts in his incredible skill with his Double Swords. Given to him by his father and mother, he never goes anywhere without them and refuses to use any other weapon besides them. He is one of the very few people in the world that can wield two swords and still have the skill and speed as if he were holding nothing. His strength adds to his personality, sometimes making him arrogant. Skylar has learned to deal with it, but it is not without its conflicts. Unknown to Skylar is that Haru has changed while they were separated. This confusion of personalities may lead to more fights.
Zephyr
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/Zephy2.png)
Age: Unknown. Completed in 47 years. Buried for 212 years.
Sex: Unknown. Looks Male.
Weapon: Arm Blaster
Description/Bio: Formally named Zyero-0001, Zephyr comes from the past. Zephyr was, at the time when the Zylacs first showed up, just completed by a science team under Kedraks direct control. Kedrak funded the program so that he could have any information he needed at a moments notice. It had been a 47 year old project, filled with everything there is to know about almost everything. It was designed as a memory bank of all the universe's knowledge, meant to be tapped whenever necessary. Once completed though, they had to preserve it so that it would not be destroyed by the Zylacs. Although it was made as a gatherer for information, in his last year of development when the Zylacs came they installed into it an integrated weapons system just in case. With no time to test it, they buried it underneath a secret location in the ground. A place where 212 years later is being excavated for construction. Zephyrs awakening would mean terrible things. With a being walking around containing all history's knowledge, only bad things can happen to obtain it. But with the knowledge of the Soul Flames, can this creation have an objective?
Rayne Valentine
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/Rayne2-1.png)
Age: 16

She depends a lot on Alkamar, one of her guardians since she was a baby, to keep her occupied and keep her from being lonely. Rayne doesn't get out much because the castle walls are all she has known her whole life. Her relationship with her family isn't very strong at all. Unless their lives are in danger, they rarely communicate. Rayne dreams of a world without death and a place where she can live without constant protection. Protection from what? Rayne has always asked herself why she has not one, but two guardians. It won't be long before her curiosity gets the best of her.

Willing to sacrifice anything to be a pilot again, he joined up with a band of criminals to fly their ship for them. This lasted 2 years. During one of their "jobs", Draight got shot in his right shoulder and twice in his left arm, leaving them dead. Using the money he had from the army he had surgery done, enough to save the arms but not enough to make them very useful. He returned home to a wife that had left him and taken his only daughter away from him. Draight set out to find them, hoping he could make up for the pain he had caused them and resume the life he once had with his family. He searched for 6 years but to no avail. Then at the age of 61, he secluded himself from the world and began to live on his own in a far off corner of the world.

But around others he keeps to himself. He is the quite type and always seems to be meditating or something. He is a different type of guardian in that he is not always with Rayne. Only when she needs him, he is there. With this in mind he tends to travel around a lot. Trance has a hidden strength about him. He definitely doesn't look intimidating but he can give a look of fierce power. Presently, he is on a personal mission. One that will enlist the help of Skylar and Haru. Unknowing to him, this meeting has a lot more to it then first glance.

Although he may seem like a bad choice as a guardian he has sworn himself to always being by Rayne's side and he does not go anywhere without her. He shares a close bond with the the king, Rayne's father too. They have been friends for years and the king can always trust him. Alkamar hides his emotions well, masking how he feels with a constant stern face. His cold and sarcastic attitude helps him give people sometimes hurtful nicknames.
Ledron Key
(http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y266/Linkforce712/Ledron.png)
Age: 9
Sex: Male
Weapon: Small Training Rod
Description/Bio: When Ledron was 2 years old, both of his parents died from separate illnesses. At age 3, he was adopted by a man named Tomura Miyagin; a martial artist who specializes in "peaceful" fighting that does not involve the use of limbs. While Ledron was adopted, Tomura had already adopted another child by the name of Simon Ramlik; a child prodigy who by the age of 7 could solve all types of Algebraic equations in his mind. Ledron was always a hot-head and tried to be tough and show off whenever he could. (He is actually a pretty big coward.) While he trained with Tomaru, he would always fight until he could no longer stand. And when he lost, he would then make up an excuse. Ledron was not the type to take defeat so easily...even though he lost quite often. He's like a punk kid that needs to be put in his place. He's special somehow though...

Now, whilst downloading the demo, please read these points to better understand things.
1. Anything marked with a CD in the resources has either been made for me, made by me, or a combination on the two. Therefore, if you want to use any of them, I would appreciate it if you consulted with me first. This includes all main Character resources even though they are not marked with a CD.
2. The intro of this game is timed with the music, so it would be wise to have as little programs running as possible, while the game is being played.
3. I ran through the game many times but I doubt I got all the "Sprinting" glitches out. If you come across one, please let me know and just try to get passed it in the game.
4. I would appreciate it if anybody who plays write what they think about it. I am always open to constructive criticism.
5. Just enjoy the game and take it all in. Also, don't steal my ideas, thats a no no! Lol, but of course have fun and play the game!!

These are the members of the Arakian Six.
Arakian Six:The Arakian Six has been around for around 215 years. They were formed to change the world to a "better" place in their eyes. Many saw tham as evil, but they were trying to "purify" the polluted and technological world. When the Zylacs came around, they severed a major blow, and were destroyed. They came back 52 years later, but with a new vision. They were re-formed to eradicate the new worldly foes. It was only composed of the strongest and most powerful of people. Since the time of the first six members, each new member had to be the old members son or daughter. It was simply heritage only. But long since then, and since the new uprising of the new Western King 4 years ago, the Arakian Six has become a corrupt and evil organization, doing undeground missions for the most pay. Also, since this time, the tradition of heritage-to-join has been extinguished and is now mostly composed of the strongest out there.
Members:
Ephram (No last name yet)
Age: ???
Sex: Male
Description/Bio: The Leader of the Arakian Six, Ephram is a very calm and mellow guy. He leads the Arakian Six, but not frontly though. He likes to give orders from behind a defense. Some may see this as cowardise, but he is an incredibly smart man, and can always outwit his opponents quickly. If things change in an instant, he will know what to do within a matter of seconds. He is never caught off guard, and is therefore never intimidated.
As far as his abilities go, he isn't very strong. Nor fast, or skilled in magic. He fights, but dislikes it. He is a man of the mind; able to psych out his opponents so that there is no need for a fight. Ephram's recent dissapearance has forced the Arakian Six members to appoint a temporary leader though. This temporary leader gets right to work, to try and take advantage of his temporary high point in the food chain.
Bersius Shelgot
Age: 48
Sex: Male
Description/Bio: Bersius is the second strongest of the six, but not very smart. He used to be a champion Martial Artist, until one dreadful day when his mother was kidnapped. He set out to find her, and when he did, she was found violated and dead with scars. Filled with rage, he went on a rampage and attacked the tribe that had captured his mom. He was far too outnumbered, and was captured. As punishment for fighting their people, the tribe chained him down, and pored boiling lava onto his faced. Severely burned, they left him on the shore to die there. He miraculously rose the next morning but was blind and could not smell anything. He somehow managed to find himself back to the village which had been abandoned last night. He stumbled upon an ancient tribe mask depicting the tribal God of hope. He wore it from then on, and swore revenge over his life. He was later recruited to the Arakian Six.
Cilvikea Rencid
Age: 26
Sex: Female
Description/Bio: When Cilvikea was born, her mother had died in the process. Through the early years, her father took care of her. One night though, a gang of theives came and stole everything from her village and burnt it down to the ground. Everyone died, and Cilvikea was left alone under rubble. The next morning though, when soldiers arived, they had found her just barely alive and took her to an orphanarium. There she was adopted by wicked parents who made her do slave work until she was 21 years old. Finally, one day while she was working in the fields, her spirit and her will broke, and she could not take it any more. She went to the shed and took out the field Sythe. She then killed her parents, and escaped that wretched place. After escaping, she soon found out that her real father was a member of the Arakian Six, and soon joined to live on her fathers legacy.
Lankers Hymnal
Age: 27

His mother was always away, and his fatherwas alwatys at work. One day though, Lankers followed his father to work. He had never known hwere he worked, and just got curious that day. When his father had reached his work, he knew right away that Lankers had followed him. Little did Lankers know, that his father was a member of the Arakian Six. What else he didn't know was that his father was a very big drug addict. Being on drugs at the time, Lankers' father beat Lankers nearly to death for following him. He broke his arm in three places, and officialy disabld it. Years later, Lankers' father had died from Overdose, and Lankers assumed his position in the Arakian Six. Since being there, he has been granted with a magical aura made specifically to make his limp arm into a weapon.
Lascius Tavigard
Age: 20
Sex: Male
Description/Bio: Lacius is the oldest of the two brothers. Lacius was always the mis-understood child in the family. His father was a well respected and well known scientist in the A.S.G. After much preserverance in his studies, Lacius' father than was accepted as a member of the Arakian Six. Not for his strength particularly, but for his knowledge. Since then, Lacius' father never wanted kids. But was forced to when he was nearing his death. Lacius is a very calm and collected person. He hides almost all of his feelings inside. Very smart and tactical, he usually comes up with most of the plans for the Arakian Six. At birth, he and his brother both had an un-definable birthmark on their foreheads. This "special insignia" allows them to telopathically comunicate. Lacius doesn't give much of a front, but with all he can do, he just might one of the most powerful members.
Rander Tavigard
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Description/Bio: Rander is the youngest of the two brothers. Always the trouble maker in the family, Rander liked to break the rules and make new ones to benefit himself. At the age off 17, he discovered a secret power that he had as a result from the birthmark on his forehead. He had the power to control and manipulate fire. As he began to harness this power, his physical appearance began to change. His hair began to turn red, and he eventually could no longer feel his hands or fingers. The nerves in his hands and fingers were permanently destroyed from the intense heat. But Rander soon used this to his advantage. Now he could use fire without any pain in his hands. Rander is a hot-head, and doesn't usually think before he acts. He'll rush into any battle just to prove a point. No matter what the odds. Since he can control fire, he is a force to be reckoned with. With his brother controlling the front, and Rander with support, they are almost impossible to beat.
Hope you guys like 'em. Comments are appreciated. ^^'

There is a race in my game known as the Zylacs. These creatures play a very important role in the story and will be encountered numerous times throughout the game. So why not show them off and explain them a bit? Well, here's exactly that:
The Zylacs are creatures who first made an appearance when the Soul Flames created the Star Stone. They are deadly creatures who are relentless when in battle. Very little is known about them, but they seem to travel in massive pacts. It is very rare to see only a few at a time. Zylacs appear through rifts in space that appear without warning. These rifts usually have a purple glow to them, and it serves as a gateway in which the Zylacs can travel through. To date there has only been one man brave...or crazy enough to actually jump into one of these rifts. He has never been heard of since. It is unknown what the true purpose of these creatures is, but as far as the world is concrned, life would be a lot better without them.
Now for a few different types of Zylacs. (All sprites are 100% custom by Bluhman and Spike21).
Reaver
Zelot Pawn
Zelot Knight
Malasii
Zethanian
Gatastar
Remeber, these were made custom for my game. No stealing!
YOU CAN NOW COMMENT AS YOU PLEASE.

Looks great. If you ever need anything, I'd be happy to help.

*readies up much bigger dominicy stamp of approval* Woot for my favorite game (well, it clashes with MT, that game rocks.) returning to work!

KICK ***
It's back! Again! ^_^
Looks as good as ever!
-
Thanks a lot guys. I know I still have the way old demo up, but a new demo is going to be out very soon. I already had someone test all the new stuff and he said it was great. I don't have an exact date for the new demo, but just know that it is being worked on vigorously and shall be out before you know it. :)

This is the best example of why fancy battle systems or menus don't make a game. I, personally, played it from start to where Link is working on and I loved it.
Just when you think you know what will happen, things turn around. And the maps are great, almost perfectly balanced. Not too crowded, not to empty. And no weird or useless details. A mix of classic and fresh situations and plots.
As far as the music goes, I'd buy the soundtrack if this was to hit the shelves. Of course, we all know it won't, but the music is that great....even tho a few of them royally gets on my nerves.
Overall, I'll never say it enough, it's a great game. Great enough for me to follow it from start to finish. The VERY start that is. Good memories. I won't ramble on forever so keep up the good work!
-
Yea! Glad to see this game has moseyed on back in!
-
Gasp. It's Carpe Diem: The Living Flame.
That reminds me. I'm totally going to have to make a short Murder-Mystery game named "Rigor Mortis: The Dying Dame". Muahahahahaaaa. Or maybe I won't make it. Stupid contest. Eating up my time.
-
It would be a CD:TLF topic if I didn't make a comment about how kickass Haru looks. Best spritesized battler I've ever seen still!
-
You mean it "wouldn't". Lol, and I had no idea you liked his sprite so much. Haha
-
Um. Is there supposed to be no way back across the bridge once you get the cap in the cave? I was stuck on that little ledge with no way out.
-
Yes, so long as you make it back to the other side before the timer runs out. Other then that, there's no problem.
-

I thought I've made a comment on it before? Maybe I made the comment to Jerico or whoever the maker was, I dun remember :p
-
Wait, so you say it's intentional to leave someone stranded with no way off that cliff if you screw up unless you turn the game off? I can't think of any video game ever made that does that.

Yes. I think if you can't make it there and back in the time given to you, then you shouldn't be allowed to come back. But c'mon Saikar.....it's definetly the hardest part in the game......:p
-
It seems needlessly cruel for an item that gives like three more defense. I'm against making the game unplayable in general for any reason. It's sort of weird that you won't admit this is a bug.
I got up to the Beelba battle before quitting. After three tries I concluded it's just not possible. Before I even get to go he berserks me and I miss every single attack and he kills me. Right.
Otherwise, pretty solid game in general, though there are a few things that reeeaaallly got under my nerves after a while (slow walk speed, time delay between dialog, generally more dialog than actual gameplay). I'll write up a full review when you release your next version.
-
You can just hold shift to sprint...and I assure you, Linkforce knows about everything you said except for the Beelba part, it appears that your combat skills aren't as great as you'd think they are. I rocked him on my first try because as far as I know, he only berserks you once in a while. That's why salves exist. About the damnable bridge of game destruction, I told him millenias ago to do something about it.
-
Yes, you also have to bear in mind that this version you are playing is quite old. Very old at that. I may have changed the whole bridge thing but I'm not sure.
As for Beelba, he is very much beatable. Many people who have played my game can defeat him. Although he is hard to face, you just have to keep trying.
A big thing to survive Alkamars chapter is to stock up on "Cure Salves". Remember..."Cure Salves save lives". Thanks a lot for playing it and I garuntee that the new release will be much much more pleasing. (Reference to BlackSkullWarlocks post)
Edit: Not this post...the one he posted before.
-
I would have loved to stock up on Cure Salves, but I started Alkamar's part with 17 Riols since I stocked up on weapons and armors for Skylar's part and couldn't find much a way to get any more money. Not that they would have done me any good, being too berserked to use items and all.
It's not a bad game in general, and I rather like the characters. I'm thinking of possibly putting them in CoD2 as a cameo fight (with your permission, of course). I'm adding well-known Charas game heros to CoD2 as random fun battles and your guys seem to have the variety as well as name recognition (I recognized Skylar immediately) to be worth immortalizing. Well, we'll see. I'll talk to you more about that later.
-
Beelba is easy. It's the chick after him that's hard.

Agrees. I beat him on the first try. Even though she was hard, I beat her on my second try.
I do agree with Saikar on one thing. Your battle system NEEDS MORE OPTIONS. All I did was press Enter as fast as I could, stock up on Salves, and that was it. The only other option I can remember is this useless little "Thunder Slash" Skylar got from a level up. You can have the speed attacking, but you have to let the player have an alternative as well. Put in some wierd attacks!
Remember my 9/10 review? I gave it to you because I put an NA/10 on the gameplay section. :p
BTW, out of all the games in the world with no real gameplay, this one is my favorite.
-
Saikar: Just keep trying and if you can't beat him, then just wait for the new release I guess.
As for adding my character(s) into your game, I wouldn't mind at all. I'd love for Skylar to appear in other games and become better known around here. If you'd like to use any other character, just let me know.
aboutaso: Although you do have a point with the battles, you have to keep in mind that these are the early battles and some of them are fought one on one. So there isn't much else to do. But just give it some time and I promise things will get interesting.
And what do you mean "no real gameplay"? :p
-
Early battles shouldn't last long enough for them to get repeatitive. That turns me off of most professional games, to be honest.

My early battles are relatively fast. Except for the bosses which are quite tough from what I've heard.

Well, I said to give it some time, because my game DOES have its own skill system. It just hasn't come into effect yet.

What? Come on, there was that whole... Charging-up thing. And you have to admit, some of the special skills the characters exerted were useful.
But it's the past.... By the way, when are you going to give me a demo of your game to play, aboutman?

Me sorry. :(
As for the game, it's not done yet. I'm a little swamped with homework right now (term paper due tommorow, Spanish Project due Friday, didn't due too good on a math test so now I need a retake...)
I've been working like a nut on it though. When do you get back from your trip? Remember, dren is still testing it.
So this isn't too off topic Linkforce, how long are you planning your game to be?

I'll be back on the smack dab 25th, and probably won't get much of a chance to do anything. Oh well.
-
Hey Bluhboy, stay on topic. :firefox:
And aboutaso, that is a tough question. Hours and hours. If you mean the new demo, at least 5 hours. At least. As for the whole game.....I don't really have a plan on how many hours the game will be...but at this rate, somewhere in the 40's.

When you're in the serpent cave and you push the lever to activate the bridge, if you're on the bridge by the time the timer runs out, ntohing happens, you're frozen in mid air.
I like it so far tho, I'll continue it some other time. liek tomorrow or something.

Haha, remember that this is an old *** demo. I suggest waiting for the new one to come out....unless you really want to play that is. The whole bridge thing is fixed so dun worry. ^^'

Muahahaha. I totally made a, like, script that makes you fall into doom. Yeah. It's in my game. You can use it. If you want to.
By the way, is the demo you gave me a while ago back then the same one you're posting here?
-
Yes, yes, I just opened Serpent Cave, and I already have a system where you just fall to your doom. BSW can back me up because I sent it to him before poeple complained about it. So no worries once the new demo is out. Like I said, everything is better in my version. No stupid stuff.
And Bluhman, yes. Yes it is.
-
Ahh, I see. lol, I'll probably jsut wait then. XP
-
Hey guys. Well, it has been a while, but "I" have finally changed Raynes look. not enitrely, just more detail and such. And by me I mean BlackSkullWarlock. Lol, he has pulled through yet again, and edited Raynes sprite. I think it is a lot better, and people who said she didn't fit in can now fear NO MORE! lol. Well, here's the before and after:
-
I like the new sprite.
-
Haha thanks. Took almost a week for someone to notice. ^^'
-
Hey guys. Been a while since I last updated.
Basically, I've been working on the game a lot. Things are going great and a new demo release is well over the horizon, if that made any sense. I am almost done with Chapter three, and it will include things like two dungeons...a brand new town, and some new characters. I know the first demo has raised some questions like "Who are those draped guys from the cargo ship?" and "What is that black shadow thing that looks like Trance?" Well, that second question won't be asnwered for some time, but that first one certainly will be. Anywho, here are some new screens from the new town Kaelor. This town is real cool because of what is going on/what you can do. I'll explain under each screen though.
The town is having an election for the new mayor. The current Mayor has barricaded himself into his house for day, and just before that, he raised up taxes quite significantly. These are protestors with signs against the mayor. Oh, and the pictures on the house is not of the current mayor. It's the guy running against him, Ringo. These protestors hung pictures all over the mayors house.
Just a screen to show an inner map. this is the towns item shop. Yes, it has a weapon shop too, so you'll be able to upgrade and sell. Something the first demo lacked.
This is branching from the first screen. You will eventually choose who you want to help with their campaign. who you help will determine what "mini-games"/tasks you will do. I think this part will be very cool to play through. and add to some replay value.
Anywho, enjoy! ^^'
-
The paranoid mayor Jinsten versus the charismatic contender Ringo. That will be an interesting change of pace. Especially since Ringo is Maxi's sprite from Soul Calibur, heh.
Personally, I really like the Item Shop. It has that 'crowded storage' feel to it...and it was needed badly so we, the players, can refill on salves and such.
That huge plant on the screen with Skylar, Trance, Haru and Ledron has got to go. It's big, it's bad and it's ugly. Burn it, eat it, banish it on another plane, I care not. It's ugly.
As for overall, it looks pretty nice as always. Looking forward to a sky-view of the new town and also actually play in it. Fear the subliminal messages of the blue-haired dude.
-
wow... This is looks super.
I think ill try it..
-
Even though your mapping could be better imo, you really know how to take effective screenshots. They can tell exactly what is going on, even without the captions and stuff.
One of these days, you'll have to teach me.
-
Thanks for all the comments guys. I appreciate them. I really hope everyone is excited about the game as I am. At this rate, a demo is looking good for the end of the month.
Oh, and I'll be happy to answer any questions about the story/characters/etc. Anything at all. :D
-
I've gotta say Link, this has come a long way. I kind of agree with aboutaso on the mapping bit, but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because you have definitely gotten tons better than before. I also agree with him on the effectiveness of the screens you take though. I especially like the shop interior, the whole crowded feel to it suits it well; nice job on that. That screen with the reporter and stuff in it looked weird at first, I thought those were supposed to be like heads popping out of windows or something. XD Then I read the caption of course, so all is good. So yeah, your mapping has improved quite a bit, from what I've seen. Good job. ^^
Aside from the mapping bit, I also love your poses. You have quite a large variety of em, and they really make some of the scenes you have. Props to the makers (Not sure if you're one of em or not <_< ) and you for utilizing them well and stuff.
I look forward to your next demo. Well of course I look forward to it, seeing as I still haven't even played your most recent release. (Which was back in like September) <_<... but you're the one who insisted on me waiting for this next one, so I shall do just that. :D And for whatever reason, your sig brought to my mind the exclamation "OMG is Skylar Jesus?!?!" I figured I'd share that, since I know you already knew it. I have no idea why it did, but your answer satisfied me well enough. So yeah, I'm still a fan bud. I'll quit my rambling and just say "lolz looks g00d keep up teh work nd nice jorb!1" Hopefully this comment is good enough for ye, Comment-Nazi. 'XP
-
It's what he asked for. I also saw the semblance of Jesus that'd cause.
-
Yeah, I intended him to look all holy-ish and what not.
To Ace, I'm glad you're stilll a fan. Lol, and I know you've been waiting a long time but the new demo will be ouot soon. Thanks for all your input on my screens. Lol, I guess I do have skills at taking good shots. lol
-
Well, it's been over a month, and I'm sure some if not most of you have forgotten about this game. Well, to let you know, this game is still alive and kickin'. I've been working on everything, mapping, eventing, battles, and stats. Im trying to work on things step by step rather then by pieces and then just putting them together.
I know I promised a demo soon, but I still need a little more time. Maybe by next month I'll have this demo ready. But for now, I'm just gonna keep working at it. Here's a screen from Chapter 3. As you can see, you'll find out who these robed guys are. Or at least you'll meet them again. XD
P.S.- Trance is here too. But you can't see him in the screen.
-
Cool bridge. Some debries in the water might add to the broken effect.
-
Not a bad idea. Now to look for some debris charsets. XP
-
debris charsets
like logs?
or some of the old bridge debrie
see if i can help you out
if need be
i can make some thing up for you
but thats up to you
-
Just wanted to say I'm glad you're making progress.
Take your time.

No, dont say that! Lol, I need to hurry the **** up and get this demo out. XD But seriously, thanks. glad you're still into it. :D
Oh, and lonewolf, if you have any bridge debrie charsets, I'd appreciate them. Thanks. :)
-
As you wish. HURRY THE F*CK WILL YA?!?!
Now, in all seriousness, the water under the bridge needs debris or you need to make it look like strong current so the debris were washed away.
If those two dweebs get past the bridge, they'll be amazingly resourceful because, as far as I know, they're as smart as a pair of logs.
-

i get on to sorry its be some time to say so
but my leptop was a way to be fixed
-
I'm trying to play your demo thingy, but when I start it, it just says, "The file vehicle cannot be opened." ....I wanna play it but I don't know what's wrong... :|
EDIT: My bad, I figured it out...yeah, I'm kinda stupid...I'm testing the game now! I'm excited haha
-
Very cool.
It's great seeing others' work because it makes one want to do so much better!
The only problem I saw with the first screens was some spelling errors, but other than that, it's awesome. ;)
-

-
Thanks for all the comments guys, I really appreciate them.
And lonewolf, thanks alot for those debris charsets. They'll definetly add a nice touch to my maps. Thanks. ^^
Just letting you guys know that I am trying for a demo for late June. This is very plausable, lol, so keep your hopes high! :D
-
I can't play your game cuz my jumpdrive is MIA...... curses. The screens look purty though....... *loves purty screens* You should prolly do some of the debris as transparent so it looks partially underwater...... unless the bridge just broke. Just a thought.
You know what? We should totally have a demo-releasing party. With lots of vanilla coke. MMmMMmmmMMMMmmmmm.......................
But yeah, the first thing that caught my attention (other than your pretty sig) was the depth of your characters so far. They really seem like they have enough motive and background to truly impact and drive an amazing storyline. Can't wait to find my jumpdrive and play..... damn it!

Well, I hope you can find your....thing, lol, in time for the demo release.
And thanks about what you said about my characters. I really have put a lot of thought into making each one special in their own unique ways.
-
Heheh, AFL, Vanilla Coke Zero= God in a can with vanilla bubbles. *hands AFL a few dollars to go to the grocery store*
But yeah, last I saw character development this good for more than a few characters was, uh...... well, other than Ember Sky of course *looks snobby for a moment, then continues*..... dunno. But you're doing great. *triple thumbs up, hands you a vanilla coke too*
-
Thanks, lol. I like vanilla coke, but STOP IT!!! Lol. Yeah, I spent a lot of time on my characters, and they're always being tweaked here and there.
-
It's inspiring to see that this is still going strong. You, Mister Linkforce, are an example to us all. :p
Keep it up. ^_^
-
Thank a lot Drqgonium. :D I've seen a lot of games rise and fall since I've started. And to tell youo the truth, I think I am the only one who has constantly worked on this project without letting it slip away from the Game Topic page. I think I only let it sink to page 2 once, when I took my break from Charas. So yeah, the fact that I'm still here and going strong even suprises me.
-
Stop what? Oh, I have the Vanilla Coke. :)
I think this is going to be a great game. If it isn't, then we will have to hurt you. *Smiles scarily*
I can't wait 'til I can play the demo... All these demos come out around the time I'll be back. Yay!!!!!!!
-
Well, I've finally gotten far enough to have a solid date as to when I'll have Demo #2 ready. And that date is
June 30th
So mark your calenders, because if you liked the first demo, this nextr one will blow you away. I still need to make some more maps and events, but i'm reaching the end of the rope, and June 30th is when I'll have it all done. :D
-
Marked and waiting :D
-
I like how your game has actual progress. :p
I still wish you weren't aiming for a 40 hr epic, but it's your game, and it's gewd...very gewd... ^ ^
-
I look forward to it.
-
it looks good so i play it all day
-
9 days.
This may well be the Charas Event of the Year so far.
Keep up the good work. We're all looking forward to it.
Seriously, I feel like Christmas has come early.
I have 11 weeks of free time now, as school is finally all done. And during that time, there could be two things that could make me very happy. The release of Monster Hunter Freedom 2, and another Carpe Diem demo. And since the former isn't out for ages yet, the latter will be very nice indeed.
*Waits patiently*
-
Hey guys, I really appreciate all the support and it makes me happy knowing some people are actually anticipating this. :D But I have news, it's not horrible, it's just that I need one more day to get things together. So instead of June, 30th, the demo will be released on:
July 1st
Sorry for the delay, but one more day won't kill ya right? But this date is definite. Thanks for being so patient! :D
Oh, and please DO NOT POST!
The next post on this thread will go to the next page, and I want the first post on that new page to be my demo. So just read what I wrote and you can comment on it later. Lol. Or if you really need to tell me, just PM me. But please DO NOT POST. Thanks. :)
-
Well, it's been long coming, but the day is finally here. After a long delay and tedious run throughs, the second demo for Carpe Diem is ready. I've had a few people try it already and they all said it was great, so you won't be disappointed. :)
A few things to keep in mind before playing the game:
1. Anything and everything with a CD in front of it was made by me, for me, or edited by me and therefore may not be used unless I am asked first.
2. The beginning introduction of the game is timed with the music so if you want to experience it fully, try and "warm-up" RM with another game to minimize skipping. Or "X" out some programs.
3. There are a few battle poses that I don't have yet, but you might not even come across them, so don't worry.
4. When exiting a town onto the world map, you have to stop sprinting to exit. Don't ask why it's like this, it just is.
Well, with all that said, and without further adue, I bring to you the second demo of Carpe Diem.
Carpe Diem: The Living Flame Demo#2 (http://www.savefile.com/projects/808515283)
I really hope you guys enjoy this and that my old fans stay and maybe even gain some new fans from this. Lol. I also apologize for any little errors I missed and hope no big glitches are in the demo. Okay, enough talking, go ahead and PLAY! Oh, and one more thing, I'd appreciate any and all comments, critisizm, and suggestions. And any reviews would be AWESOME.
Have fun and ENJOY!
-
ZOMG DLING
edit: I got first download :)
-
KICK-FECKING-***, MAN!
d/ling right now >:D
-
People be prepared to enjoy yourselves. It's took me days to beta-test, and technically I didn't play all of it. Please download now.
-
Downloading Now. (Yay! Cluttering my computer with even more demos!)
EDIT: Crap... I died even with the "???" guy against that floating lizard thing... I used a Cure Salve on the ??? and before I could use it he died so i lost my last Slave. :(

Lol, damn lost to the first boss? Lol, maybe next time conserve your skills until his defense is up, because Trance's magic will still deal some damage as apposed to his blade.
-
To die against the first boss is to cease to exist. Or not. If you can't handle that lizard, you won't stand a chance against the next foes you'll be facing.
I'll download your game eventually as I always do. I just don't know when I'll bother taking the time to do it. Perhaps I'll download it after the same amount of days you've delayed your demo has passed from the time I'm writing this. That sounds like a plan.
God bless cheap internet /sarcasm
-
Lol, BSW, do what you want. I know you'll play it though.
So, did anybody beat it? If so, can you write a review?
-
Can the demo not be compressed any further? 19MB is somewhat beyond the limits of my dialup conection. >.>

For those who have not played yet, refrain from reading this. There will probably be some pieces stated that could be deemed as spoilers. One must read at his or her own risk.
Alright, first off, great job! This version was quite better than the last one. As always, this review will consist of everything except for battles; they are something this writer really does not enjoy, which means a useful opinion on them could not be given. So, without further a due…
Story 9/10
The story is a lot more in-depth for this demo, and it is probably what this writer likes most about Carpe Diem. Many scenes leave the player shrouded in questions and assumptions, but the way they are presented gives enough vague information to make the player want to continue playing. The “unknowns” within the game are not completely obvious, nor are they outlandishly farfetched to the point where none of it is understandable. This is good, and finding a happy medium for this is sometimes difficult, so nice job.
Another plus to Carpe Diem’s story is that pretty much everything is important to keep the plot flowing. Aside from a couple factors, such as the pointless lizard boss toward the end of the cave, there really is not a moment where the player feels as if they are doing something for no reason at all. But even the aforementioned event was important for the introduction of a new character, which is vital to the plot. Overall though, anything that happens within Carpe Diem happens for a reason. The only suggestion this writer can give is to perhaps add just a few events that are not imperative to Carpe Diem’s linear plot. It is always good to give the player a little bit of freedom with their choices, rather than guide them through everything that happens within the game.
Overall, the story is well thought out. The introduction is very well done, what with the poses for Laknar, the various sound effects, and of course, the whole scene being timed with the music. That alone made the scene a good one. Sometimes it is good to have a bit of game play within the introduction to make it less boring, but for Carpe Diem, it is not very long and hooks the player in pretty well. This writer will admit, however, that the suspense dissipates strongly after that scene. Usually the introduction of a game is best when the transition from the big scene to the lesser one is more gradual, rather than overly dramatic. Aside from this fact, it was good enough to make this writer want to continue playing, and hopefully it will be for others as well.
Characters 6/10
Character development is a lot better in this demo. The majority of characters, aside from Trance, were a bit too stale in the previous version. In many cases, it was hard to differentiate the characters’ personalities, and it was too easy to notice that one person was creating the dialogue. This is not the case in this demo, but it could still use some work though. Most of the characters have their own defining characteristics. The characters in which it showed the most, in this writer’s opinion, were those not of the main party.
Skylar, the protagonist, is an okay character, but is a bit too bland and boring. The most he has is anything that other hero’s have: a sense of bravery and honor, as well as that keen “always glad to help out” cheerfulness. Overall he is a decent character, but he does not really have something clearly unique about him. One of the biggest factors that hurt this character was being unconscious for a good portion of the demo. While it helped broaden other characters, it did nothing to help define his.
Haru, Skylar’s friend, is probably this writer’s least favorite character. All in all, there really is not anything special about him, aside from his two-sword attack in battle. He does show some new colors within the mirage forest place with Ledron though, and this seems to continue afterward as well. Hopefully players will learn a lot more about him as the story progresses.
Trance, a mysterious royal who assists Skylar and Haru in the caves, is probably the most interesting character, mainly because of the mysterious aura that surrounds him. Players find out that there is more to his helpful and courageous nature in a few revealing cut scenes; and while the two-sided character is somewhat cliché, Carpe Diem pulls it off pretty well, and that is all that matters. The most defining characteristics of this character are found within his thoughts and dialogue. Refraining from using contractions and proper grammar helps present his personality. His thoughts also point out how he feels in a lot of situations, such as his reluctance to tag along with Skylar and Haru while in Temeri.
Alkamar, a high ranking officer within Caduet’s royal military, is a pretty solid character as well. A lot of his defining characteristics are presented graphically, through character poses and expressions. Being a military officer, fighting is something he does well, and he will do so whenever it is necessary. Exclamation marks within his dialogue and angry pixilated faces show off his angry and forceful nature when in battle, and his willingness to serve and protect is presented very well.
Ledron, a small dwarf kid in training, is a neat character too. His defiant, yet independent nature is admirable. Ledron is the type that will push his limits to accomplish something, solely to say that he was able to do it. It seems as though he hates it when somebody tells him that he cannot do something, but at the same time it is that which drives him to attempt the improbable.
All in all, the characters are good. There are a few that need more defining characteristics though, and hopefully these will broaden as the story progresses.
Graphics 7/10
The majority of graphics used within the game were great, but as far as mapping goes, they could have been used better. This writer does not want to sound like a broken record, and is sure the author has heard this many times; but all in all, the maps are just average. They have improved from before; however, in many cases they were too open and lacked the fullness that makes a great map great. Honestly though, it should not be something to worry about; they are good enough to present what is necessary for game play.
The big thing that helps this score are the various poses and animations used. They all capture emotions and events very well, and this writer commends the creators of such graphics, as well as the author for using them to help present each scene more thoroughly.
Game Play 7/10
Aside from being rather linear, the fun factor for Carpe Diem is more than satisfactory. There were not really any dull moments, and in most cases, this writer retained a sense of enjoyment throughout the whole demo. As far as difficulty goes, excluding battles, it is rather easy. The princess’ room took a few minutes to find in Caduet… but aside from that, pretty much everything is straight forward. Excluding the battles, Carpe Diem took about 5 and a half hours to play; and with this being the case, perhaps the author should throw in some pieces that will make the game a little bit more difficult.
Overall 8/10
Thus far, Carpe Diem is a fun and entertaining game. The story seems to be well thought out, and many of the “unknowns” drive the player to continue, only to discover the mysterious and secrets of the world of Kelevor. This writer recommends Carpe Diem to anyone looking to play a somewhat simple, yet enjoyable role playing game.

Phew. lol
Thanks for that review Ace. It's real good to know part you di like and parts you didn't like. shows where I need to make improvement and where I'm doing things right. But thanks again for that review. :D
-
Dude, holy crap, Carpe Diem demo 2. Too tired tonight but I'm downloading it and I'll try it out in the morning.

Damn straight.

Haha, I couldn't be more glad that the two characters I busted my *** on are actually the most popular. You can't go wrong with mixing a person's mind and another's talent. Linkforce will understand what I mean, I'm sure of it.
I'll download your demo soon enough and get back to you eventually...although by Ace's review, I'm pretty sure it would sum up what I'd think of it. Not that you need to hear it from the horse's mouth do you.
-
I've played up until after learning a bit of Trance's past for the first time. It wasn't to captivating at first, but it quickly caught me. After the first OTOS I wanted to keep playing to see what happens.
I'll finish it some other time, I definitely want to. =D
-
SaiKar: Thanks man. Glad you're excited. :D Let me know what you think.
BSW: Lol get on it!!
drenrin2120: Lol it only gets better and better. trust me. KEEP PLAYING! :D
-
So is this a revamp of that old demo?
-
No its a continuation. But the old stuff has also been improved as well. I wouldnt release the same material twice.
-
Oh I know, but I thought I remembered you saying it was all lost recently.
-
Um......no....? Lol, I don't recall ever saying that. If you're talking about like last year then yeah. Lol
-
What's with all the long cutscenes before battles that I tend to lose? It's annoying! I stopped playing because I didn't want to watch the same cutscene again. -.- I'm a bad gamer.

Lol like which ones?
-
Wow, some of your bosses are really fricken hard, especially for bosses in the beginning of the game. Maybe it's just me, but I stopped playing last night because I didn't want to fight Rixtia again. I also had to fight Beelba three times. = Buuut, it is enjoyable so far, except for those damn bosses! =P

Hehehe, all the bosses, really.
Especially the fight on the ship. I couldn't stay at the inn for some god awful reason and was in bad shape, so after the looooooooooong cutscene with Trance and the ship.... they destroyed me. *sob*
-
Well, most of the bosses can be beat with a bit of luck and strategy. Also knowing what kinds of attacks the certain boss uses and guesstimating when they use it.
Serpent Cave Boss- If you can't beat him you officially suck wind. Seriously though. With Trance, it's a no brainer.
Cargo Ship Boss- Just concentrate on taking them out one by one. If you feel like one of them is about to die, keep an eye on your HP, cause they'll chuck a grenade at'cha in a last ditch effort.
Beelba- Probably the hardest boss. I use a Salve every 2-3 hits he does. Always keep your HP above 50 just in case he uses Psych Fire. (Puts you in Rage status) Unless you're really unlucky, you'll snap out of Rage in time to heal yourself and deal some damage before repeating the process. (Why not get some Salves at the castle armory? It's on the way. ;))
Rixtia- Another hard one but not as hard as Beelba. If your regular attacks aren't quite cutting it, try throwing your weapon at her. It may deal more damage as this attack disregards defense. Just keep your HP up, and you'll know she's almost dead when she tries to talk instead of fight.
Zylac- If this can even be called a boss, its not quite hard. Use Draights magic immediately and deal as much damage with Alkamar as you can as well. Once Draight is out of SP defend with him and use him to heal and as a target so that the Zylac can attack him while Alkamar deals the damage.
Once you get past this, if you have problems with the other bosses, let me know. Just remember that if you can beat a boss on the first try, then it's not much of a boss. Just think of any console RPG you've played and think if you beat every boss on the first try.
Hope this helps. :)

Luck should never be a factor against a boss. Logic alone should be enough to take it down. You also have to realize that there aren't that many Salves in the game. The only opportunity you have to get them is in Temari and the Serpent Cave. Even if you fight every monster in the Serpent Cave, there is little chance that you will recieve a Salve or enough money to buy one. It's hard to keep your health up in this game. Did you put in the Complete Restores like I asked? This goes on until the cave that is filling with water.
Lucky for you all, I fought every boss five times in a row. Once by speed attacking, and four times by strategy. They can generally be beaten by pressing Enter as fast as you can. If you like strategy as I do, and cannot beat the bosses, please PM me for information.
I think you're taking your game a little too seriously. It's an RPG Maker game. I told you people would say something. Aren't you glad I took that much time to play it? :p

I absolutely hate psych fire... -_-
Anyway, here's my look on it. You have a lot of bosses in the beginning where there is no access to places to train and/or buy items. Plus, all or most of your bosses are hard to the point of needing multiple attempts. On top of that, the long cut scenes before each one AND the fact that the battles rely heavily on luck can really get a player down and annoyed.
The way I think, and this is personal opinion, bosses work best is to have a certain level ranking for bosses. Like, let's say you've got three levels, 1 2 and 3. Level 1 bosses are frequent, tougher than your regular monsters and shouldn't take multiple attempts, but should definitely be a strategic challenge to the player. Level 2 bosses are even tougher, but are spaced in between the occurrence of Level 1 bosses. These types of bosses may take a couple of attempts. Now, Level 3 bosses are reallll hard. They're the bosses that usually occur around key plot changing events. These bosses should be severely strategically challenging and take a couple of attempts or so, unless the player is really good or gets lucky. I'd say these guys should be almost as hard as, if not more so, than the final boss.
Well, that's all in my opinion, that's how I would do it.

Quoted for Emphasis. I got very unlucky against Beelba and died while berserk'd. Therefore, I went into RM2k and turned Psych Fire into Funny Pink Flame attack, which instead heals Alkamar and inflicts Q.up upon him. Muahahahahaaa.

I was considering doing something similar, but decided against it. But I was very close to resorting to such tactics after the third go.

Looks good... or should I say sounds good. I am planning on trying to it tonight after my weekly broadcasted episodes of anime. I might just pull an all nighter. Well I look foward to playing this game. Though I'm not sure if anyone will care really about my opinion cause I'm like a N00B here and nobody really knows me or even talks to me. :) Owell I don't care :P because I enjoy this website and possibly spend too much time looking through the complete resources. Anyway sorry for going off topic. I'll be back tomorrow or Monday with my review. Again I am sorry for going off topic.
-
A word to all those stuck on Beelba.
EXPLORING is a key factor in RPGs.
As an RPG player, you probably know that information and items are gained through EXPLORATION.
You may just find a solution to your problem by EXPLORING.
For those of you who say my game is linear, this is your chance to EXPLORE. EXPLORE the castle. Who knows what you may find............

Everyones opinion counts man. I'll be glad to hear from you. Hope you like it. :)

I love this game. No really I do. It runs very smoothly.
Caution to all readers. Message WILL contain SPOILERS.
Well right now I am up to the tidal wave... I haven't had as much time to play it as I thought I would but anyway here are my thoughts.
Introduction:
I liked it. It was informative and instantly caught my attention. (Not many charas games grasp your attention so quickly.) I was instantly hooked.
Baven:
This town I thought was a little to small. Though it surved its purpose.
Serpent Cave: I enjoyed this cave which is rare because I do not particularly like long caves. I love the way you have your battle system set up. I also enjoyed the sprite sized battlers. I do not see what all the fuss is with the boss here. I fought him once, lost fought him a second time and won but did not make it out before the cave collapsed. I tried another three times until I accidentally found the dash button. Seriously man you should have something in game to tell us about the dash. I had no clue it was there.
Temeri:
I particularly liked this town because of its expansiveness. This town really felt like a town. I enjoyed the quest to clean out the chimney though the whole time I thought to my self: Why is there a back way into his chimney? When the fire place is not lit a crook could easily slip into his home. Other than that it all was very well done.
South Castle (Celdana): When the chapter started and I began playing as someone else I though what the fu** just happened but quickly began to enjoy it. The castle is a little big but it suits its purpose.
I'm not exactly sure what I did after this since I fell asleep playing the game last night. The game wasn't boring it was just the fact I played from 3am till 6am. I do remember laughing my *** off when the tidal wave hit me though.
Overall this game runs smoothly and I enjoy it. Though I'm not exactly sure when but it was during one of Skylar's narrations he said the word beginning though you spelled it "beggining" It bothered my mind at 5am in the morning.
-
Bold that spoiler warning por favor.... >.<
-
Woo! Thanks for the review man. Might I suggest that you don't play the game so late. This way you can actually appreciate the game and story and stuff. Um...I'm glad you like it so far, but I really want to know what you think of all the stuff in Chapter 3. That's where all the new material is from the last demo, and I have yet to hear anything about it. Well, thanks for the review so far. :)
-
I work a lot so I don't really truly get to play till the later parts of the night. I will make sure to write a review of chapter 3 soon. Give me about 3 days and I should be done with it.
-
Sure man no problem. Take your time. :)
So does anybody else have anything to say about the demo? I've had 24 downloads and only two people have said something. C'mon people!! :jest:
-
Give me a few days or something and I'll have a review for ya. :)
-
Actually, I think I could review it right now. Very quickly, but It'll give you an Idea of what I think:
Anyway, this is very brief and swift for the moment. Might stop by later on to elaborate on it.
Graphics: 8/10
Your greatest asset in this section are your poses, Thanks to BSW (I think. He's working on your poses, right?) and I. The chipsets didn't quite have synergy in style, but the maps were decently set up. Especially later maps. That said, I'd advise you modify and liven up some of the earlier maps so that they can compare to the later ones. Charsets are FF6 and RTP styled, which you managed to make match up reasonably well. Also should be noted that the battle animations also are excellent. Overall, you did very good in this section.
Sounds: 7/10
The sounds themselves were used well, albeit them being from my game(s). Not much else to say. Used well both in battle anims and cutscenes. The music in some places were quite nice, especially some of the MP3s, but I personally am'nt a huge fan of your music for Boss Battles. Not that it's a bad song; it's just that I don't really find it that fitting. Beside that, the sound in this game was good.
Gameplay: 7/10
This game has minimal addition of bells and whistles to the base systems, yet the gameplay stands up to other games well. Seems you're working on a special combo input system as well, which I do hope goes well. Yeah, there's also not a lot to say about the gameplay, because it doesn't do anything too out of the box. Despite that, it works well, and gets a good prize in this category. Hm, must be the compelling story...
Story: 8/10
Well, the story itself is quite the trip. Like the gameplay itself, its style is nothing revolutionary, but it is used very well. Events are logical and intriguing. Trance was, by far, the most interesting character of the bunch, with his unusual, dark past. Cliche, but effective, and that is why cliche's are sometimes used. In comparison to Trance, though, the other characters fall short by varying distances. Some have slightly interesting pasts or various dimensions of character, which make them decent, while other's are somewhat one dimensional, and not quite as interesting as the rest. Skylar himself comes to mind.
Ze final score: 7.8948643359726349236598237592382934/10.000...
Or just 7.5/10.
A reasonably good game; a true exemplar for newer game makers for an idea of what a true, well balanced RPG maker RPG is like. Not only is the game a good example for other games by other makers, but it's also survived through the years of Chara's existence, making it a true classic.
People, play the game. If you truly got nothing better to do, then this game will be a surprisingly enjoyable adventure.
-
Wow! Your game definately owns mine hands down I guess I have a lot to learn! -looks at his own maps- -cries- I'd definately play it after you finish it. That ship screen is what really gets me! My chip is some ff4 set and looks old and outdated.
-
drenrin: I'd appreciate it. :)
Bluhman: Thanks for the review. :) I'm glad you liked it overall, and yes, you have put quite a lot into it, so most of the graphics score is cause of you. lol
element: Thanks. :D And I have a demo out on page six. Why not play that instead of waiting for the end result?
-
looking good.
-
Hey Linkforce, thought I'd check the game out and see how it's going.
From the looks of it, it's going well! I haven't been around so much, but I hope the story stayed a little the same from when I last saw it.
Hey, if you need any help with anything, tell me. I'm here for that :)
Looking good, and keep up the good work!
W££rd
-
Very incredible Story, The Intro was nice, I just started it now but is there any more recent demo that takes care of those problems you had mentioned in the list? Just wanted to know x]
-
topic kick.
-
Not really a topic kick, cause its not that long ago.
Kazu: Thanks a lot man. Glad to know someone is playing. lol Well, the most recent demo is on page 6. Thats all there is for now man. Let me know what you think of the rest.
-
Well, its a good game xD i enjoied it ( i lose in that part, in serpet cave after i've killed the boss when the cave is shakingxD) but i found some bugs, in the cave, before boss part, there r a entrance to that part of dungeon, that entrance with many lizards :p if u exit from next part of that entrance, that is not in the middle, you can't move the char... mm that but i really liked the game :p
-
the games great do you have a date for when you want to have it finished by, out of all the games on here this is one i want to see finsihed the most. keep up the good work.
-
yea man long time no play .... lol. it looks good
-
Well, well....although I have not updated in ages, CD is not dead, and I am still working on it. Just slower thanks to the holidays. (Good excuse, eh?) Rest assured though, I will have a new update soon. How soon though, I am not sure. Mainly, I am posting this just to let all the members and fans know that the game is far from dead and I am still here and working on it. I hope I haven't lost all my dearing fans. :P
-
Dear god! You're back!
C'mon, update this oh, force of Link. Been wonderring whatever happened to you....
-
Lol, well I will update soon so don't worry!! And thank you to all of my.........................
*Drum rollllllllllll*
1 FAN!!!! lol :P
-
Dude, why haven't I played the demo? I should get round to doing that.
-
HUZZAH!

...*debates on waiting to download old demo, or wait for the next one*

Well, my suggestion is to download the latest demo which is on page six. Unless you want to wait a time limit that I don't even know. Lol
-
Point. Hm... I'll wait a few months and see. How 'bout that. :p
-
Hey guys!
No update quite yet, but I was wondering if anybody (with a good rep) would volunteer to Beta my game. What I would need you to do is:
-Clock your gameplay. (So I know how long the game is so far)
-Gauge difficulty. (So I know if I have to make any enemies harder or easier)
-Check consistency. (So I know if the story and all the events are in a fluid motion.)
If anybody would like to help out, please PM me.
Thanks. :)
-
Good to see you bacak once again. Release the demo already, been wating far too long now.
-
Nice to see you still working away at this game. I'd be interested to play this next demo.
Dunno if I can promise the time to beta though.
-
I could do it. If the file's around 20 meg or less.
-
Sorta sipped what every one sayed, expect the main ost of course so this was probly asked but a wile back I dowloaed this game. the demo ended with some old man and the guys and we had to kill 2 of those robot, destroyer things. is this a longer demo or did you just bring it back to life?
-
Damn, how long has it been? Too long to count. Haha Well, from what I can see, Charas still doesn't care much for games. Lol. But that's not really gonna stop me because CD is here to stay.
Although, I have not been working on it very much lately, due to laziness, and no real inspiration. But, I'm ready to continue again. So, let me begin by telling/showing what I have been up to for my long absence.
For starters, I've been making events like crazy. The last demo left you at reaching Kaelor, but never being able to actually explore it. Well, thats not the case anymore, because the new content lets you run around as you please, and begin another quest to......do......."stuff". Lol. Obviously that "stuff" is story related so I won't be spoiling that for you guys.
To be honest, there isn't too much to update on. Lol. I'm working on the game still and the rate at which I'm working on it is increasing. What's that? Huh? A new demo you ask? Hmm........
Well, a new demo may be available by Mid-March. It'll include Chapters 1-4 and probably be around like 8 long. Somewhere around that time, I haven't clocked the game exactly.
So, this is just to let you guys know that CD is still here, and I'm still working on it as usual. Don't forget about the latest demo on PG.6. If you haven't played it yet, please do so and let me know what you think. :D
Thanks for still being fans!!!
-
Sweet, all these games are brought back to life it seems. Sounds great, sounds cool, sounds awesome.... Now finish it.
-
Lol, thanks! I'm workin' on it!!!
-
This game looks awesome. Very good work Linkforce.
-
Hey guys.
I was wondering if anybody would like to make some fan art for my game. Anything and everything is greatly appreciated. Thanks to anybody that does. :)
-
Hey guys! Yes, I am still alive and still here. Yes, I am still working on the game. Yes, I am still sexy. :p But yeah, seriously, this game is still alive. Until I get both my arms chopped off it'll still be alive. I'm working very hard to get a new demo out soon so start wetting your whistles.....(yeah, it was stupid, I know) because pretty soon you'll sink your teeth into some yummy Carpe Diem. :D
:x And for whatever reason my first post of my main characters disappeared.......?
Ugh, so give me some time to fix that. Lol
-
1.What does "carpe diem" actually mean?In English, that is?Or is it a phrase you thought up?
I think it's latin though...
2.I played your game from the first demo, and everything is great, but some places really lack quality. It's just hard to play in parts where the background is monotonous and simply BORING. I always go quality>quanity, I hope you'll do that too later on. You'll please the fans later.
3.Is Haru a name of the main character in the film "Beverly Hills' Ninja"?
4. The fights are mostly bad. They're simply not interesting and flat!Spice them up for god's sake.
Overall:7/10.
-
Okay, lol, well.....
1. Carpe Diem is a latin phrase meaning: Seize the Day.
2. Much has been changed since my latest release, so I think you'll find the new version to be a lot more "spiced up" and less "BORING". Lol
3. It is from that movie but thats not where I got it from. I just saw it somewhere and liked it. Plus, it's not pronounced the same way like it is in that movie. In my game, Haru is pronounced more like "Hey-roo"
-
Hah, I learned what Carpe Diem meant last year in English. We had a hole unit on it. =P (haha, Firefox can't spell Carpe on mine. lol.)
Carpe Diem is also the name of a movie I think. We watched in last year during that unit.
Can't wait!
-
Hellooooo people of Charas! Well, those who still care about games of course! Lol
It's been a while, but I'm still here! And so is Carpe Diem! You can't get rid of it! Lol
Anyways, I have an update for you guys. I guess you can count it as an "official update" considering I have Screens and a Demo Release Date. :)
Yes, you read correctly. A new demo release date. :)
The release date of my third demo is currently scheduled for: May. 17th
Mark your calenders everyone! :D
As for the update, I've been working on the game a lot recently. I've also taken the liberty to write down the list of Major Events that will comprise all of Episode 1. I've also written down what the outcome of each character will be at the end of Episode 1 and what mark I wish to leave. Basically, all the events are laid out. Now all I have to do is make them. :)
As for now, the progress on Chapter 3 is going smoothly. A few more events and the Chapter will be finished. Then I'll begin Chapter 4 and just work on it until the release date. Then wherever I am I'll stop there and edit it a bit to act as an end for the demo.
Now for all you bastards that won't give a thread the time of day without screens, hahaha, this is for you! And of course all my loyal fans. ;) Enjoy!
Screens (Scenes from Chapter 3):
You may notice a certain someone who created problems for Sky and the gang. ;)
Hope you guys like it! Make sure you're available on the release date. Lol
Comments are very much appreciated! :D
-
Sweet, gimme' the demo now, damn I want to play this so bad. Loved the first demo, so this will rule.
woot!
C'mon, those screens looks great. But maybe the cave couldve used some tint-screen thingy to make the characters blend in a bit better.
-
...did I forget to play the other demos of this? I can't remember playing the game :o
Maybe I played the first demo. I remember something to do with... something...
Never mind! I'll play this latest one! Looking forward to it.
Nice to see someone else still working on their rpg :D
-
Prpl_Mage: Thank you! Be patient my friend. ^^
And I see what you mean about the "cave". (It's actually a basement) lol I'll definitely add some tint to it, thanks!
Moosetroop11: :o Get your *** in gear! Lol, go play my latest demo! It's on Pg.6! Please let me know what you think! :D
-
Cool, good to see you're still working on this. The screens look pretty good, although the little inner dungeon temple thing is sort of open and bland. But eh, we already had a big conversation on graphic whores and such, so you already know my view on that. Unfortunately I won't be able to get the demo on the date of its release though, I'm going to see Dream Theater (back stage passes and stuff too, woo!) Rest assured though, I'll play it as soon as I can. Keep up the good work, [STRIKE]Comment Nazi![/STRIKE] buddy. :D
-
Awesome. Carpe Diem, along with the Alpha Force, are my two favorite Charas games I've ever seen here. (the Omega Seal would be among them, but someone COUGH ACE COUGH is lazy). Good to see you still working on it.
I'll be sure to pop in around release time and pick up a version of the new release.
-
Thanks guys! :D
12 more days to go!!!
-
demo release huh??? niceee lol some more maps and then i can do that myself lol keep up the good work
-
Hoho, good to see that you're still working on this one mate!
Last Demo I played was a real treat ^^
Can't wait for the next one :)
-
Thanks guys! :) Demo will be out tomorrow!
-
Hey wtf! No demo release!? You have failed us for the last time Linkforce. You shall be burned at the stake!!!
-
Seriously, let's lynch him!
-
Is there a demo at all?
-
i think somone beat us to killing him
-
Has he logged on in a while? Maybe the internet are causing problems.
-
don't think hes logged on since may 16
what if he started another thread on another site!
or worse his internet did go out!!
DUN DUN DUUUNNNNN
-
You better be posting your new Demo soon, Linky Boy!
...Those aren't city lights you see on the horizon.
-
Well, after much delay, it's finally here. The wait is over!
I bring to you, the 3rd Official Demo of my game!
Carpe Diem: Episode 1 Demo #3 (http://www.savefile.com/files/1600797)
While downloading the demo, please read the following:
ENJOY!! :D :Plight:
-
Cool.
-
A few words
LOOOOVEEEEEE THE GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its really fun and challenging.
-
Ok, I must suck at this... Honestly...
I keep dying after the lizard boss....
I kill him and the place is falling down. I have 25 seconds to get out... But I can't get into the cave where the boss were or go back to the previous map...
But the character moves so slow that I get halfway to the top before I die...
Did I miss something along the way?
Really awesome game otherwise.

Haha, I probably should've mentioned somewhere that you can hold down the "Shift" key to run. XD But, I'm glad you like it so far. ^^
-
Okay, I downloaded it but can't open it XD
Damn you RAR file...!
-
Just want you to know that I at least downloaded it, and I'll probably review it if I get that far.
-
Sounds like a good game, I shall download it along with some kind of .rar reading file.
-
Wait, wait, wait, wait, Haru? Trance? Oh, so that's what that perv was talking about in Alpha Force.
But did **** really kill ******? (Haven't played that far. I always get pissed when I never save and have to watch that damned intro.)

You can save at the inn at after getting Haru you know?
I got a bit further, now I just need to get to the end.
-
I found a bug with the Shift Key Run.
If you spam the shift key continuously the hero will begin to lose its speed and then walk/run EXTREMELY slow. (I had a similar bug within my game.)
The solution: Add a 0.3-0.4 sec whenever the key is pressed. Therefore the player cannot spam the shift key. It also makes a LITTLE more sense since in real life it takes a person about .2-.3 seconds to build power and speed in order to sprint their maximum speed.

Yeah, Bluhman likes to put cameos of my characters in his games. Lol And are you talking about his intro or mine? Because like Pprl_Mage said, you can save right at the first town.

Hm, thats odd. I fixed that whole spam the Shift key thing. Are you playing the older version? Lol, make sure because I definitely fixed that. Unless you're like trying to mess up the running by spamming it while teleporting or through cutscenes. Lol
Anybody get to the new content yet?
-
Hmm, there seems to be a resource missing.
Just after the intro of chapter 2, when the kings right-hand man has spoken to that woman and then says that he is going ot see "her". There was this error message "somthing- castle -caquede(or something) is missing" And the game closed itself.
What could it be?
-
Ok guys, there was something I missed when I posted the demo. In the beginning of Chapter 2, after Alkamar gives you a "tour" of the castle, and after he talks with the Director of Communications, the "banner" of the castle, or rather a picture with the Castles name, etc is supposed to show up. Problem is that I changed the name of the picture but didn't go back to the event to change the "Show picture" event to the current name. But thanks to Prpl_Mage, I now have a solution to fix it without you having to put it into RM and going to the event and fixing it that way. (I'd upload a new version but my comp is being an a$$)
Anyways, here's how to do it:
(This is what Prpl_Mage did)
"Episode 1>Pictures>Copy>Paste>
I copied the file "Southern castle celdana" and then paste it in the same folder(it was named southern castle celdana(1))
I then changed the name of the pasted picture to "Southern Castle caduet" and loaded from the last save point"
I hope this helps to anyone that got that error thing.
And btw, has anyone gotten far enough to write a review/comment on it/gotten into the new content? Please, let me know what you think!! :)
-
I'm playing through it now, expect a review from me soon, =D
-
Do you have a zipped version instead of RAR? :(
-
Zerlina: A zipped version? I thought it was zipped already.......*scratches head*
Ian: Thanks man! I look forward to it. Don't forget to fix that picture problem.

Wait the link dosn't work..

Reviewing Carpe Diem.
Purple mage.
Graphics.
I liked the graphics in this game. The main characters were custom-made and their outfits looked great. The NPCs in this game was rather detaield as well. Some work had been done to make them fit into the town they lived in and I didn't see a single RTP in there.
The monster graphics went really well with the backgrounds and the battlechars and I liked that. It wasn't over-detailed like the RTP monsters; they actually fit in there.
The backgrounds looked liek they'd been made with screenshots of the game and it really added to the game feeling. The characters remained sprite sized in battle and the background looked like the place you were at in return. I like that, perfect match.
Music.
Most of the music used seemed to be from FFIX, I'm a great fan of FFIX so I never disliked the comforting tunes that brought my memories back. And even more pleasing was the way they were used, I never reacted to "hey, this doesn't fit in here..." I really enjoyed the boss theme as well, I actually felt like fighting for once and not just "Hey speeded version of the battle theme with added bas... Nice"
So I really liked the music. Great choices.
Story.
The story evolved during the course of the demo, as expected of course. It started out a bit dim at first but the more I played, the more I understood.
I liked the way the story bounced back and forth some times in between chapters wich allowed you to see what was going on at different places.
The game also took a couple of twists along the line, it avoided most clichés as well wich I liked.
In overall, I'd say that it got a bit confusing at times but it was sorted out neatly and there was a rather good cliffhanger at the end.
Gameplay.
The battles wasn't really interesting at first, but it got better then further you got in the game. The first boss battle was well-planned and it continued like that afterwards.
There was some points where I missed some monsters that I could beat up for free exp but I had my way after getting a bit further ahead.
The running pleased me as well(when I finally noticed it) and the OTOS added that extra touch to the game.
I only got stuck about three times but found my path after soem exploring luckily enough.
Misc.
Unfortunatly, there were some bugs in the game. I got past them and most of them wasn't to my disliking to be honest.
A tip to those who play this is "Stock up on healing items" 'cuz you get away from shops and such for a good time and I had little choice but to run from a couple of battles because of that.
Two of the boss fights was really hard. The first one was a dual battle where both of them had an attack wich could instantly kill one of the party members and deal some heavy damage to the rest. I didn't have that many healing items at the point and tried to be cheap. It just didn't work untill I spended all of them nearly.
And that wasn't too good to be honest. 'Cuz there was an overpowered boss afterwards. Link did hint me thowards a shop just before it though(the path to it was barely noticible though) and i use my money and bought some healing items.
But this boss, dealt soem sick damage to all of my party members. The same guy as before was instantly killed by 2/3 of his attacks and more than half of the other characters' health was missing after the skill called "tri-co strike"
Now, my healing items didn't heal up more than this attack so my characters were dead if he used it twice. I had to retry this boss at least 10-15 times as it went bad during the first three rounds.
I got through the game in the end though. And I liked it a lot.
-
Hmm......ok for whatever reason, my game got deleted from Savefile? That's incredibly unfortunate.......umm.......problem is that the version I'm working on now is different then the one I posted even though its only been a few days. Mainly because I changed a lot of the stats. But I'll try and get a hold of someone who has the original download and then post that one if I can.
And thanks Prpl! I'm glad you liked the game and really happy you wrote a review. I apologize for all the bugs though. I should've caught them. Anyways, thanks a lot. I await anybody else's review. :D
-
Alright, I fixed the demo link. Thanks to AoS, the demo is back up and I (meaning him) managed to fix that picture glitch thing and the one boss who is total rapage. So go ahead and download the demo again. All is well!!! :D

Um.....thats from the old demo....the beggining scenes withthem jumping from the ship? Are you sure you downloaded the right one?
-
I finaly got WinRar,so now i can play your game.
I just download the one on page 13,right?
-
Yeah page 13. Lemme know what you think.
-
Ok, probably stupid question. But I've been looking around in your game and I still cant seem to figure out how your charaters move to the enemy when fighting.
-
Ok, probably stupid question. But I've been looking around in your game and I still cant seem to figure out how your charaters move to the enemy when fighting.
Say what??
-
When you attack, you move to the enemy. I remember if you set the animation for the weapon you can select that.
-
I looked for that but I cant find it... I was talking about how your battchars move next to the enemy then attack. I'd like to know how you do that.
-
In items, select the weapon you want it for.
Click "Set" under Animations (In your weapon's data)
At the top put Move to Target in Movement before attack.
-
Ooooh. I never saw that before, thanks lil. Great Demo btw LinkForce, some of the battles are a bit hard for the beginning but nice.
-
Oh and I keep running into a problem on your game, sometimes when I talk to people I get stuck facing up when I move around afterwards.
-
I took some time out of my busy schedule to play your latest version and here is what I have to say about it.
Carpe Diem: The Living Flame is a cutscene-intense game. In my opinion, there is more cutscene than actual gameplay so if you like to go to see a movie, I would suggest you try this game and get yourself some popcorn. The cutscenes are pretty good and the OTOS(On The Other Side) system adds to the depth of the hero(s)'s situation. The story often splits into smaller stories involving different parties scattered around the world, showing what's happening elsewhere adding that much more depth to the situation. The graphics are on-par with any other games that are using sprite-sized characters but I have seen this game evolve from it's humble beginnings and aside from having contributed to it, the graphics have definitly reached a new level.
In my opinion, the best part of the game is when you get to control Ledron. The maps of the Ignis Forest, not the mirage forest, are great. The story of the forest is, in my view, an amazing one. Too bad Ledron sucks so bad.
The game's greatest asset can also be it's greatest weakness. If you like action, this will not be your cup of tea. There is a lot of reading and watching. Another problem is the game's balance. The heros grow psychologically but they remain inept in combat all the way to the end of the demo. Because of that, the monsters scattered on the maps tend to take forever to kill and make you waste a lot of resources that would be better used against the much harder boss at the end of the dungeon.
Overall, it's a good game for those who like cutscenes and probably a plague to those who prefer non-stop action. You have been warned and recommended.
EDIT: Fixed typos
-
I'm still alive and I'm still working on the game! School is over for now so it's crunch time! So you can all sigh a sigh of relief. :D
-
Glad to see your still working on it.
-
I think it's about time for an update. Who thinks it's about time for an update? I think it's about time for an update. Alright it's time to update.......>.> <.<
Anyways, yes, I know it's been a long time since you last saw this thread. I had troubles finding it, it was all the way on the third page. The reason for this is that school has consumed my life, but I've found time here and there to continue to work on the game, and further the story. As for now, school is winding down, and once finals are over I can resume working on the game at full speed. In the meantime however, here are some of the results of what I've managed to get done.
If you remember from the latest demo, Alkamar and Rayne found themselves in the middle of a forest with an old man by the end of their chapter. In Chapter 4, you'll continue from where they left off, and venture through the Rowan Forest. The reasons for doing so will be explained in the game. This screen shows two possible directions you can take. One leads to a small side-adventure while the other will lead you on to further the game.
This is a screenshot to show my sad attempts at making "puzzles". Or annoying things to do to continue onward. The green leaves are actually levitating platforms, and the blue rings contain a spirit monster that powers each platform. Getting to the next island is possible through a series of battles.
When you enter a second set of "puzzles", a friendly Remolite will help you as always. Alkamar's not the nicest person as you may already be aware of.
This second "puzzle" comes in the form of trial and error where you have to follow the path of the flags direction. Only when you figure out which flags take you where can you reach your destination.
The destination. Ultimately, when you finally exit Rowan Forest, this is where you'll end up. Where this is and why it looks like this will have to wait until you play it for yourself. :P
Well, this is just a small part of what is in store for Chapter 4. The midway point of Episode 1 is Chapter 5, which means the game is nearing the halfway mark. I'm glad to say that it's still going strong, and I sincerely appreciate all the support I've received, from old members, and new.
Enjoy!!!
-
Looks good, love the map work.
-
Thanks, glad you like it! :D
-
C'mon lad. Get that new demo up and running. Been addicted since the last one.

C'mon lad. Get that new demo up and running. Been addicted since the last one.
Lol yes, I probably should've mentioned that I put up the 3rd demo again for people who didn't get a chance to play it. Let me say that now...
I RE-UPLOADED THE THIRD AND LATEST DEMO. IT IS ON THE FIRST PAGE FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO PLAY IT!
-
I think I remember playing the first demo long ago when you used the song Fallen by Delerium.
Though I could be mistaken.
-

Though I could be mistaken.
Lol I'm not too sure I remember what song that is. But you should definitely check out the re-released demo!
-
I actually did download the demo but I get stuck on the first battle it crashes because its missing spear2 animation.
-
Do you have an RTP file? Because if you don't that could be why you're getting that message.
-
Yeh I have it even reinstalled it dunno why it won't work.
-
It might be a different version or something....other than that I don't know what it could be.
-
First of: I love this demo. The mapping, spriting and story. However, I don't like the fact you can't earn money in battle and thus have next to no way to stock up on essential items.

Thanks Fish! :) About the money situation, there are chests scattered about that usually contain money. You just have to explore a bit. Also, as you progress, there are a few enemies who will drop a bunch of money. But mainly, search around for some treasure chests like in towns and stuff.

Ah! I see. I found one in room before the first bosses room. ****! This first boss is pretty tough. I realy hate how he starts killing you, then when you start winning increasing his defence. As if it's bad enough I do no damage with Skylar.
-
Wierd I even posted the file in the game and still messes up.
-
Getting a Game Over from falling down a ledge that you didn't even know you could fall down is ROUGH, man! You can at least put a warning sign or something! D:
-
Ok playing now I had to go through the Intro 5 times *Seeing that intro one more time will drive me insane because its so long and I its burned into my mind its like tortuuure* before I had the thought to open up the game and just switch the punch animation to something else so it would work.
-

Lol, fight smart. Save Trance's magic until the end. :P

Lol well, when people fall into a black abyss they dont tend to live to tell the tale. There's a save point right before if I'm not mistaken. Or.....right after......anyways, if I warned you, it would take away all the fun lol

Well I'm glad you got it working but sorry you disliked the intro so much! Usually people say they like it. Anyways, if you run into any other trouble, let me know :]
-
If the save point were right before, I wouldn't have closed the demo in frustration!
-
Lol its not that I hated the intro its long and after seeing it 5 times you start to dislike it.
-

Lol yeah I suppose. It's not too hard of an obstacle though so you shouldn't fall for it again.
Lol its not that I hated the intro its long and after seeing it 5 times you start to dislike it.
Oh, right right. Yeah, I can see how that could get annoying. Lol, well as long as you fixed the problem you shouldn't have to repeat any of the scenes again.
-

I wooped the first bosses *** with only using one item.
Its easy as long as everyone is at least level 3 you can take him down quick.
If you used special attacks first thats what you did wrong.
Haru's normal attack is way stronger than his special so just doing normal
attacks after the fish thing increases his defence twice then start using Trance's
special and Haru's and use Skyler to heal if needed if not just have him guard
and the Boss is taken down within 2 minutes at most.
I actually keep running into problems and again yes RTP is installed but
like charasets are missing so I have to keep going back to make sure the files are there.
Oh well.
-
Thats really odd that you run into problems with charasets missing. I've never ever run into that problem. Hmm......
-
I mainly just fix a problem everytime I run into one by replacing the charaset etc.
I was even missing the Vine Whip animation.
Bug wise
Skylar gets stuck into position on the chimney ladder. (which can be fixed if you walk on the latter after defeating the monster)
When the mayor runs to check on his face he runs straight through the wall.
If you leave Temari after the monster is defeated before talking to the mayore
you cannot go back into town unless u press ESC by town. (This also could be because skylar was stuck in position.)
Oh and bad idea making the background water first time you go to ship it looks akward like its mie like you're floating in the sky and water is miles under you more than actual water.
I know you've been questioned this before but its very weird and wrong to have a wheel only at the front of the ship.
Force to stop when part of the castle couldn't be opened.
-
Alright well besides from the chimney, I've never come across your problems. It has to be something with your RPG Maker because nobody has ever reported these problems.
-
See I would think its my rpgmaker because I have a patch on it but like I can run dozens of other rpgmaker games and its fine.
Theres are only two games i've had this problem on and yours is one.
-

Idk man youre the first. Just try and get through it I suppose. Sorry you have to play it like that
-
Its i'm basicially uninstalling everything rm2k3 and gonna reinstall everything blank without a patch on the rtp and see if it still has any problems then.
Reinstalled everything still has a problem in the castle
can't find southern castle caduet

Oh yeah. That brings back memories.
It's that "title" that appears when you enter the castle. The file is not in the game folder though if I remember it correctly.
Ok, it's in the folder but the name is changed.
"Southern castle celdana" was the correct one if I remember it correctly. So change the name to what is expected. Or open up the game with the maker and change the event to display the right picture.
-
Yeh already done : )
-
This is still looking really good.
-
I love this game, especially the OTOS system. There's one thing I think you should add to your demo. I finally beat the Serpent Cave boss and then when the cave starts collapasing and I was supposed to run, I didn't know how to, because there was no in game info on it. Just a minor suggestion, but maybe you could add a in game tutorial.

Same thing happened to me.
I always thought the game was a bit slow before I realized it.
Turned out that it was written on the first page of the thread or something though.

Yeah, but there should be in game guide still of tutorial. In LR there's a few events like Serpent Cave, but I'm going to have a guide book that lists all the extra controllers so nobody has to get killed by puzzles unecessarily. I probably should make one for Warped as well. it just makes sense.

Yes, when you come across this problem, do that! ^^^^^^^
Well I'm glad you guys are enjoying the demo. As for the sprint button tutorial thing, I may include like a sign or something that lets players know. I guess I thought it was implied that you should try "Shift" to try and sprint. I'll probably add something to let people know about it.

Review
Music 6/10 - Your game has some good themes and the music was placed and worked very well in every part of the game except like the tracks you used for in town annoyed me i liked them at first but after hearing them over and over it gets a little annoying and I disliked the battle theme but the boss battle theme was good.
Gameplay 7/10 - Slow but fine it has some very slow parts in your games and then fast pace its a good balance between story and action.
Story 8/10 - There are some parts of your story like any game that are very cliche then other that are very original and no matter what after Chapter 1 the story just gripped me to keep playing until it was finished.
While most of the story remains unknown so far is very interesting
Chapter 1
Ugh I disliked this one Chapter 1 cliche and like "happy" that I don't feel like playing it again.
Just like its all very cliche especially the part with people helping the Hero's just because he is a nice guy. I dislike the main Hero alot he annoys me he is just too nice and seems like you average hero.
Chapter 1 is my biggest complaint with the game, but it wasn't very long so no problems.
Chapter 2
This is my favorite Chapter while the Chapter starts slow and you have to walk around the huge castle alot once you go into the basment it doesn't stop it had great moments and it just went straight into all out Chaos which was very fun not mention its very easy to die here since its battle after battle which made it funner.
Great Job.
Chapter 3
Took a step back and its not as good as Chapter 2 but its does move faster and its not bad at all its above average and while it wasn't as cool as Chapter 2 it did move nicely and open up the story more as a good pace not rushing and not too slow I enjoyed it alot and there was plenty of action too keep me busy and finally seeing
some of the characters evolve was good especially Haru (I started liking him alot more in this chapter).
Overall 7.5/10
You had some good comical moments here and there some even made me laugh and I liked how sometimes when things you knew were cliche you made sure to point them out in a "funny" way.
Your game started off slow and you have a set pace that you kept with that is cool.
It kind of goes slow story, battle after battle after battle, speeding up the story, but it all goes so smoothly its doens't feel forced or rushed. I do have a problem in chapter 3 some things are harder to notice not extremely hard but i'm sure people will get stuck but we already discussed that.
There are no big bug or errors to complain about.
I'm sure it'll be a higher score once the next demo is released.
I'm anxiously awaiting to play more and this one of the better Rpgmaker games out there and definetly one of the best i've played from Charas.
-
Hooray!!! Thanks for the review man, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I'll be working hard to continue the game so all you have to do is be patient! :P Thanks again! :D
-
It's time for me to break radio silence, so to speak.
I am one of the few who can claim to have seen this game grow and evolve into what it is today. This game is the first of two reasons why I have Charas bookmarked. One of the more promising game produced on Charas, I know a lot of work has been put into it but I agree with Nandez that sometimes, it seems to drag on and on. Is the wait worth it? Yes, yes it is because the pace picks up after the first chapter. I recommend this game to all avid RPG Makers out there.
As for you, Linkforce, expect to hear from me soon enough. With school ending tommorow, I'll be pretty damn bored so I'll restart working on my project. I will see you around or in pieces, the choice is yours 8)
-
Thanks for your input BSW. Always good to here from you, though rare as it is. I'm glad you still continue to give me support. :) I'll see you on MSN :firefox:
