I started a game a while back called Nightmare Recast ~ The Phantom Project. But I gave up on it, mostly because I didn't like the story that I had come up with (way cliche). About a year and a half later, I decided to try and start up a new game that pays a homage to my original idea @ the name, which is identical. I have just, just, JUST started making this game. Like, an hour ago. But I've been working on the story and the resources for weeks now, and I think they're finally refined enough to share.
So, here goes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two twin brothers, known as Atmos and Ultimatum, once ruled over a vast majority of the universe. The two gods, good leaders though they were, were also constantly in conflict with each other. If one wanted to go one way, the other would go in a completely different direction.
Destros used this to his advantage. The third of the brothers, he was not given a position of power, for he was the last-born. For this he loathed his brothers and wanted the power that they possessed. Destros was an unusually crooked god, and decided that the only way to attain power was to trick his brothers into relinquishing theirs.
He devised a plan. He told each of his brothers that the other would attempt remove them from their seat of power. Using their distrust for each other to his advantage, Destros succeeded in his plot. While Atmos and Ultimatum were preoccupied fighting each other, Destros usurped power from behind their backs.
It took them years to realize what was going on. When they finally did, Destros was completely corrupted by his newfound power. Atmos and Ultimatum, exhausted from fighting with each other, decided to use their remaining strength to destroy their corrupted sibling. By then, however, Destros was far too powerful to be fought by conventional means. So the two brothers each created a planet, and using the last of their strength, separated Destros’s soul from his body and sealed them into the cores of the two new planets. With his body and soul separate, Destros was powerless. As a final measure to protect the universe, Ultimatum, much to Atmos’s discontent, assigned guardians to his own planet. While Ultimatum believed that these guardians would forever protect the planets, Atmos was convinced that like Destros, they would become corrupt and instead destroy the planets and bring Destros back into the universe. However, they did not have the energy to quarrel over the decision, and they both fell into an eternal sleep, placing the fate of the universe in the hands of the guardians.
Those guardians came to be known as Humans…
The Humans lived in peace for many years on the planet of Ultima. One day, however, the Humans learned of the sealed god’s spirit sleeping inside of the planet. This knowledge gave birth to a lust for the power that the god’s spirit held. This lust brought fighting, war, and monarchy. Soon, the quality of life on Ultima deteriorated to the point where the citizens of the planet were no better than slaves to the King. By then, Humans had become fairly experienced in the art of magic, and one day, in an attempt to leave the horrid lifestyle of Ultima, the most powerful mages on Ultima used their magic to transport a new civilization of Humans to Ultima’s uninhabited sister planet, Atma.
Over time, the population on Atma grew exponentially. Hundreds of thousands of Humans, in a search for a new lifestyle, fled from Ultima to Atma. The King of Ultima feared that if he didn’t take action soon, he’d lose his entire civilization to Atma. The only way he could stop people from going to Atma, however, was to bar the only way to get to Atma ~ magic. From there on, Magic was completely banned on the planet of Ultima, and all Magic-users on Ultima were banished to Atma. This caused much anger and discontent between the two planets, each disagreeing with the other's ways, and soon, the two planets were at war. They are still engaged in that same war to this day, each planet fighting for control of the other. There is a problem, however. The civilizations of both planets are starting to realize that this war won’t end any time soon because the two planet’s forces are too evenly matched. That would normally be a good thing, because under normal circumstances, when faced with that same realization, the people of the two planets would decide to cease the fighting. The civilizations of Atma and Ultima, however, know of a secret power that, if unearthed, would give their own side the upper hand.
The secret power I speak of, of course, is the power sealed within the planet of Ultima, the power held within Destros’s sleeping spirit.
And someone just found that power…
My name is Seraph. And I am going to stop them from exploiting the power of the gods, no matter what the cost. I can’t fight this battle alone, though… I must make others aware of the dilemma that both worlds are facing right now. I must warn them… about the Phantom Project.
The story was awesome but got a bit long winded with the war. No doubt you'll pull it off fine though.
I like it so far!
Of course it got long winded ~ I just explained nearly all of the backstory of the game! Betcha can't name a single great RPG that doesn't get a bit longwinded, heh. Plus, if you knew the whole story (which I would have posted if spoiler tags were possible), you'd know why the war was not only inevitable, but extremely important to further the storyline. Of course, if I told you what the Phantom Project was, that would reveal all... but I'll hold off on that for the time being.
the story looks good and original, keep working ^^
Thanks!
I'm planning to have the character development pan out like in FF6 (there isn't a 'Main Character' persay, all of the characters contribute greatly to the story... although if you did want to designate status, I guess you could call Dyson the main character. Seraph is the largest contributor to the story, however.) Also, you'll notice that Ultima has a very... 'Spanish' influence to it, while Atma has more of an 'English Renaissance" feel to it.
Hey, are there any spoiler tags on this forum that I'd be able to throw up?
I just updated the character profiles with face pics and details, yay. If I feel like it tomorrow, I'll post some of my concept art.
I'd suggest you at least use edited FE faces instead of the original games.
I plan to edit the faces. Minor edits though, 'cause right now I'm focusing on taking existing sprites from other games and changing them to look like these characters (since the FE overworld sprites suck).
