Title: Let's discuss the conditions of our computers!
Post by: Razor on April 14, 2007, 03:38:06 AM
363 days ago something happened to my computer what has effected it badlike ever since, and right this moment I am in the middle of formatting it.

So, how's your computer going?
Flies like a dream?
Lags like a bitch?
Won't turn on?
Somewhere in between?

My computer's made out of awesome sauce and bicycle parts, how well do you think it fuckin' works?!!

Extremely well, actually. Except when I have company, then it runs like **** in an attempt to embarrass the hell out of me. I want another gig of bicycle RAM, though.

My computer is functioning within acceptible standards. However, Despite taking perfect care of it, the speaker system is shot. I have to wiggle the cords for about 5 minutes just for both to work. I can't use headphones either because I've burned through two sets in about 6 months.

Also, I'd like it if someone could recommend a good brand for a headset that isn't Logitech.

However, for graduation, I'm getting a laptop that'll outright pwn everyone's computers here.

Mine's good enough for me.

2 Gigs of Ram, 2.04 GHz AMD Athlon 64 (Only running 32 bit, though), and Vista.

Internet was wonky for a little bit a few weeks ago due to outdated firmware, but other than that my computer has been in tip top shape for almost a year. Firefox and Norton are responsible, I believe.

Its running well for it's almost full hard drive. No lag ever. Except when I have an MMO up and/or too many chat windows, while having Mozilla and WMP up.

Its a laptop though, I don't think I'll go back to desktops as my primary use.

Indeed. I laugh at my brother's overheatingness, though he invented a way to prevent it. And mine did cost me above 1k USD

LIES! THEY'RE ALL LIES!!! All I need is a new video card (or mebe not, mine's fine-tastic), that extra RAM I've been thinking about for ages, and a processor that's like what you're planning, and I'll be equal to or greater than you. Again. And since it'll be a laptop, I won't even NEED to get all that. But I will anyways.

And Osmose, except for the RAM, I'm shocked that yours isn't better than you say...

I mean, mine's better than that...

Except for the RAM...
...

I feel really awkward right about now. :|

My laptops screen is busted. Its now a PC. My other PC is a piece of Crap, but I hard wired it to my stereo, and its a wicked jukebox now...And a backup for my shat.

Im buying a new laptop this summer, becasue they are actually pretty well priced, despite the naysayers.

Seriously, Even the cheap ones have warranties. And for an extra fifty-100 bones, its an extended warranty.

Dual Core...Im in UR base

My computer works great, my dial up though is another story.

amd duel core, 620 GB disk space, radeon x1600 pro, a mouse that works like a wimote, shutter glasses that make all my games and dvds pop out of the screen, high definition tv tuner, two dvd burning drives, only a gig of ram :( windows vista home premuim, windows vista ultimate, AND windows xp home. Then theres my damn internet.

What are you watching?

Gir: Scary Monkey Show.

That... monkey... urgh.

Gir: Uh-huh.

Edit: Sorry, couldn't resist an Invader Zim reference with the monkey thing. XD

Anyways my computer is satisfactory, but I plan to buy a much newer PC for new games and software.

Eh. My PC works well enough for me (The main one). The PC in my room likes to randomly reboot itself though.

My Mac's fine too. -shrug-

All in all, they're good. :P

My internet's been effectively covered with concrete because I use a family computer admined by my dad, and he installed Mcaffe antivirus, which decided to block half the sites I go to (Randomly selected pages from charas, for instance), even though I have complete access settings. It's almost enough to make a grown moose cry.

Hopefully he'll ditch it within the week though. I need to read my webcomics  :(

I just got another gig of RAM. That brings the number of gigs up to two.

I'm pretty excited and all that.

Windows XP home edition SP2, 256mb SDR ram, 2.69GHZ Celeron processor, Intel EXTREME (Crap) graphics card with 64mbits memory, a 90% dead CD-drive and a 33GB hardrive, which is some how over half full. Has a mysterious process problem, where it refuses to initiate and end cirtain processes, which results in the inability to shut down normally, and install most software outside of safe mode. I've tried countless anti-viruses, Registration cleaners, spy ware removers and a couple of tech-support forums, nothings been able to fix, let alone diagnose exactly what my problem is, so I just learn to get around it. I have less then 18 process running at once, and it still manages to go slower then ten slow men.

My laptop on the other hand is just fine, it's a mac OSX 10.4 and I have never had a problem with it ever, even with all the suspicious activities I some times partake of.

I think a complete format is in order here.. Either that or your CPU is overheating.

Hahaha... let's see...

I only have a laptop, which is my pride and joy... but I haven't exactly been too responsible when using it, although most of the following incidents aren't my fault.

It's been hit heavily by viruses, which is what forced me to have it taken in to be sorted out the first time (I didn't know that much about viruses to clean it myself as I do now). I was a download whore and spent most of my time downloading albums and film and games ignorant of all that was flying around... because I was an idiot. I learned my lesson, I now only download stuff carefully. :D

The second time, was nothing to do with me. We have a wireless internet system, my laptop connects to it from a Belkin card. Well, I left my laptop on the sofa as I went to get myself a drink. While I'm in the kitchen, I hear a bang (something hitting the floor). Fearing the worst, I return to the lounge, to see my laptop on the floor - no power. The laptop had fallen off of the sofa as someone had got up and landed with the network card pointing downwards, therefore landing on it and forcing it back into the laptop. According to the repair shop, the network card being forced back into the laptop had caused the motherboard to shatter. Expensive. What annoys me more, my mother who had been sat on the other side of the laptop had made no effort to grab it.

The third and last time it's messed up, the most recent and the most comical in some aspects, was just annoying. I'm getting a CD from the shelf in the lounge, my sister was sat next to my laptop, eating a Muller Fruit Corner yogurt. She snaps the corner off, which shoots out of her hand unexpectedly, sending strawberry jam and yogurt onto my keyboard which began to then make it's way through. Grabbing some kitchen towel, I made a futile effort to try and wipe it off. It didn't do much and the keyboard for a while was completely screwed. I left it for a couple of days, phoning around to get price quotes on repair. I turned it on a couple of weeks ago and the keyboard works fine, the spacebar's stiff and some keys that I don't use anyway don't work... oh, and the left directional key doesn't work. However, it's usable, so I thought "Screw repairing it, it works". And yeah, here I am now, with a laptop that smells of strawberries.

Yeah, my laptop's been through the wars... don't laugh too much.  :(

I use:
My Grandfather's desktop (XP),
My Grandmother's laptop (XP),
My Dad's desktop (XP),
and my dumb computer with Windows 98 First Edition (with no internet access) in my room.  I can barely use it for anything.  And my midis don't sound very good on it. :(  It makes me sad.

I don't get it...Chi's almost brand new (bought Chi on December 28), and I defragment Chi on average 2-3 times a week (have System mechanic professional), but Chi's.......really.......slow to turn on! And, on Saturday, after a whole evening of playing emulators, watching 3 anime episodes, and a few hibernations in-between, Chi...wouldn't turn off....

....I couldn't have downloaded THAT much anime/pics/'H', can I? I mean...it says I've got about 19% of my total memory left on Chi. WTF?!

Go into your start menu, and select Run. Run "msconfig" and look under the "startup tab"

(if its a PC of course)

Check everything thats running in a google search to see if its a necessary process.

Make sure the box is Not ticked off if its not necessary.

This is a fun way of finding annoying hidden spyware and viruses and crap too

Djanki....Do you have an excess of like, Movies or Music?

Go through everything in safe mode. Go on a deletion binge if you have to.

And when all else fails, Reformatting is nice sometimes.

Killing your pc, and giving it life again.

Or, pretty much wiping out everything from it so you can start it fresh.

I use that as last resort on viruses, even though its recommended to do every 3-5 months or so.

I haven't done a reformat in about 3 years, i hate loosing stuff cauuse well I am a pack rat.
