Title: Organization on the generator....
Post by: Nugget on April 20, 2007, 12:19:34 AM
i couldn't find anywhere else to post this, so here goes:

im new to charas, i just noticed it yesterday, and i think its great... but, i also noticed the individual sprites for hair, clothing, etc, are organized in a seemingly random order.  i know i read somewhere that only ALEX could change the actual code, but i think it would be nice if the, lets say CLOTHING is organized into groups:

Mens'
Womens'
Soldiers'
Monks'
Wizards'
Other

and etcetera.  Just right there on the page with the thumbnails, separated by line breaks.

I know it would take a while to organize it but it would make it so much easier to find the pieces im looking for.

I'm also wondering if there's a way to create a guy (in the regular char creator), and then automatically have the matching battlesets and facesets created too, based on what you chose for your chara.
???

i think solider stuff is together for the most part, and that they are in general categories.  You can definitely see that in the items section of the charset generator.

as to the second question, you have 2 options.  request someone to do it, and do it yourself, and most likely, you'll have to do it yourself.

No, you'll have to generate them all separately.

It wouldn't be possible to make it automatically create a faceset and battlechar though, since there are several resources which don't have matching resources for the other two generators.

Right now we don't have this option, but it is kind of a nice idea.

We're going to be moving servers sometime soon, with several updates as we get code access - one of them could be a "related resources" system which lets you save a generated Character, and then look at resources in the other generators which have been marked as similar enough to be used in place of the other.

This could be backed up by a system that lets users recommend resources that look similar to others that are later approved or something. But this isn't one of the primary goals - maybe after we get other stuff done. :P

I don't really think its a good idea really, as many of the resources are able to be used for multiple categories.

I didn't mean to say if the ARMOR clothing was in the SOLDIER category, it couldn't be used for an old lady if you really wanted to; that's still your choice.  I thought this would be a great way to convenience people, not restrict them.

And, of course, there could always be an "OTHER" category, like I said, or even repeat a few of them if they apply to multiple categories.

I dunno. The system as set isn't that hard to use.

I think it's a good idea. And so what if clothings fit in several sections. PHP and MySQL are flexible enough to handle this. Resources could easily have two properties which define in which category they could end up.
