Title: The Children of the Ruby Fire
Post by: Shady Ultima on April 24, 2007, 02:00:40 AM
The legend of the children of the Ruby Fire:

Long ago, when the world was still young, the dragons reigned supreme. The five kings of the dragons, the children of the dragon god, the Ruby Fire, were feared throughout the world. The children, Drake, Danur, Draconis, Dralio, and the most powerful, Draman, had defeated the elves, and the dwarves hid away beneath the earth. All that remained free was a small country of men. But when all hope seemed to be lost, a young man, named Eire Salio, came forth, and with a group of courageous warriors saved the world from a bleak future.

Characters :

Eire Salio : Eire was born in the small farm of Sarina, just outside of Cinry. His mother died when he was just a child. His father raised him, and on his eighteenth birthday, he built his own house in Sarina.

Eire is 22 at the beginning of the game, and is fishing, with very little luck. He decides to go to the bar for a drink. When he leaves, he hears a beautiful melody coming from the forest. He follows the voice, and sees a woman. He follows her into the forest, and she speaks to him. She tells him that only the one who can defeat the children can see her... and then the screams start.

Eire runs back through the forest and into Sarina. The pub is burning, and bodies are laying everywhere. An army of half-dragons  is destroying the area. Devastated, Eire runs back into the forest, taking shelter for the night in an abandoned mine shaft.

Neya Vawdrey - A beautiful young priestess, who lives her life of prayer in the Church of St. Ultima. She grew up in the residential area of Cinry, with her mother and father. On her 16th birthday she was sent to be ordained as a priestess of the church. Five years later, her faith has made her one of the most promising priestesses, with extreme abilities to heal. Eire and her meet when Eire is gravely wounded by a band of renegade warriors, and she manages to save his life.

Well, I had plans to make it in 2k3, simply because I can make the sprites for 2k3, and resources are also easily accessible.

true enough. But a simple resize, pixel resize, of 200 percent will fix you up.

Either way, Ill do what I can.

For the record, Im not doing very awesome 2k3 sprites these days. With the Tablet and the colour restriction, its kindof iffy. HOWEVER.... Im all about cinematic battle animations and pictures and Titles and stuff like that. Im having a hard time getting motivated for sprites these days.

I'll offer coding assitance in the form of tutorials and such if you ever request it.

Just don't ask for anything overwhemming :P Also, if you're planning on editing the DBS... don't ask me anything about that. Editing the DBS often gives me headaches.

I too am skilled at the programming, I wouldn't mind giving you advice or helping you with something.  Heck, I'm writing a basic CMS tutorial, so once I'm done you could check that out.  As for battles, either CBS or DBS, I can help you there.  I've worked with DBS manipulation, but most of the time with that, you're having to work around the program.

I am also skilled with the spriting, so there.

The DBS can be Awesomesauce with tweaks

(Recalls the old comic panel DBS tweak of a previous scrapped COG project)

Yeah, the DBS kinda sucks, at least without any modifications it does. But you can still make it cool as long as you make the battles fun. Basically, if you can just smash the space bar over and over again, the battle isn't fun, you have to make them challenging, and you have to make the boss battles interesting.

Aww, so the dragons are evil. That sux, stupid humans...

Gyah hah hah! It looks like everyone decided to be charitable at the same time.

Looks good though. Pretty LoTRish, with the dwarves and elves declining and humans standing up to become the dominant race.

The thread is gone now. And the latest Verson of my C.O.G Dosent have this feature...But I replaced the Battle Animations with Comic Panels. The Battlers were panels and the Monsters were panels, Over top of a Comic panel Battleback. Its was neat. I cant remember who all saw it. I knw ZKX and drenin Got it.

One day after The COG demo is out,and the graphics TUts are made I'd like to make a tut for A Comic Style DBS.

I made it in XP, but It can very easily be done in 2k3. If not easier..ly

You need to add a 'splash' at the bottom of the waterfall. If you don't have any graphics like that, talk to me on AIM later. Im at school so i cant upload any graphics cuz i dont have them with me.

I'm gonna start complaining about the mapping if all your maps are like that :p

I kinda just realized it, but the reason I don't like maps like that is because of the water autotile. Makes the water look really fake...
Title:
Post by: Shady Ultima on April 26, 2007, 08:24:17 PM
Well, then you'll prolly complain about the maps. Oh well.
Title: It actually doesn't look that bad.
Post by: aboutasoandthis on April 26, 2007, 11:17:17 PM
Four things though.
1. If you're going to have a cliff like that, try to have it surround two out of four sides of the map. It makes it look more like a real cliff.
2. Use move event and Increase the transparency of the fish by at least 2.
3. That dark grass could be better used as shadows. Master the shift key imo.
4. The splashes and stuff can be found at Gaming World.

Yo. You can sign up at Photobucket and upload all your pimpin' screens there, so you don't have to make a new post for every picture you want to share with us! Doesn't clutter up the thread as bad, too.
