Kinda like the FF Hero thread, but I thought I might expand this a little bit.
Give your favorite hero, least favorite, whys and why nots, whatevers. Can be from ANY GAME.
Personally:
Zidane is one awesome mo-fo. However, above him comes my personal favorite: Yuri (Shadow Hearts 1&2)
Yuri is a badass demon slayer. His clothes are so cliche, but his apperence other than that is pretty original. Unlike most heros, he isn't made to be some super attractive looking dude, and his hair is pretty different. He uses fists rather than swords, and instead of magic, can morph into monsters that can use magic. He has that "silent hero" quality, and manages to combine it with that "immature teenager" speech quality, which leads to incredible character dev.
*Spoilers*
Also, midway through he dies, which shows that he isn't some uber god like everyone else in other games.
*End Spoilers*
So, tell me your favorites already!
-
Orlandu managed to still be an amazing character even though he broke the game. He's like a mistake that you adore.
Delita's quite the anti-hero, especially since he shows what would happen if the main character had chosen to take the Dark Side Path instead of staying honest.
Jack grows crops. And raises cows. And basically runs a farm. He does all the boring, mundane tasks in running a farm, and he makes you enjoy it!
Mario... is overrated. He's just done too much to be a fan favorite at this point. Link's still got some credit to his name, but really, you can only do what amounts to the same quest so many times before you lose favoritism. This doesn't mean the games are bad - quite the opposite, Mario and Link run some REALLY good games. But as characters they just don't have the edge it takes to become a favorite outside of their respective games.
Nerevar and the Imperial Dragon Knight are pretty amazing, although really they don't exist as more than shadowy rumors to cover up a character creation system.
Master Chief wins every battle. Like, all the time. He NEVER loses. Well, okay, he does lose a few times, but every time he does it is either someone else's fault, or he's just waiting to come back and win even harder.
Alucard doesn't really have a lot of story or development behind him, but he does have the fact that he set a new standard in Castlevania games and is one of the most enjoyable characters to play as.
No, we're not counting the Prince of the Cosmos. Seriously, no.
Sonic is a little too hip these days, and should just stop trying to portray any personality at all.
Phoenix Wright strikes both a serious and humorous tone, and succeeds well at it.
Solid Snake is just too complex. He himself was great in MGS1 and most of MGS2, but it just kinda got absorbed by the overly complex storyline.
Samus retains awesomeness due to mysteriousness and the badassness of her game...ness.
Which one do I like the most? I honestly don't know. I like far too many to make a choice, although Orlandu is really close to taking it - of course, in reality I am in love with every Holy Knight, Shrine Knight, Lune Knight, whatever, excepting for Meliadoul - I just hate how she looks, her abilities, what she does, etc.

The Wanderer KICKS HIS ***.
Heros: Ashley Riot of Vagrant Story. He's a guy. Even though the dialogue in the game was written Shakespearean styled, him and almost every other character in the story had a DEEP personality. He reminds me of Auron, but with proper English. He also has a lot of things going on such as false memories and unkown workings of the church. I wuv this game. ^ ^
Villains: Sephiroth, Algus, and Romeo Guildenstern.
Sephiroth had a presance. My 11 year old self was scared of this guy. You were just progressing forward and he was off in the corner of the screen walking or watchin you, that is some scary stuff. If you grew up a good little Christian boy like I did, he also had a lot of satanic references. If the game wasn't three-discs long, I would've been on the edge of my seat expecting the final boss.
Algus: Great Gatsby styled elitism with KKK styled actions and thoughts. This is even when he doesn't have his noble name. This kid was just plain evil...Especially this line.
Miluda: Who do you think you are!? We're not animals! We're
human, just like you! There's no difference among us other
than our families! You ever been hungry? With only soup to eat
for months? Why do we have to suffer? Because you nobles
deprive us our right to live!
Algus: Human? Hmph, ridiculous! From the minute you were born
you had to obey us! From the second you were born you were our
animals!!
Miluda: Says who!? That's nonsense! Who decided all this?!
Algus: It's the Will of Heaven!
Miluda: Heaven? God would never say such things! In his eyes,
all are equal! He'd never let this happen! Never!
Algus: Animals have no God!!
Romeo Guildenstern: With the permission of the church he RIPS THE SKIN OFF OF SOMEONE AND PLACES IT ON HIS BACK SO HE CAN GROW DEMON WINGS.
I don't really have any hates, but I'm really getting tired of Link. Especially after Ico and The Wanderer, I can't see what's so special about his games.

Hmm, Zero from the megaman x and zero series is awesome. Don't know why Ilike him so much, he's just awesome. Megaman is cool too, but not as cool as Zero.
Ashton and Abel from Star Ocean were cool.
Sepheroth was probably my favorite bad guy. I mean, he was a mad physcopath, a lot of other games have guys like this, but most of them turn out corny, lame, or pushovers.
Then theres conquer from conquers bad fur day (dont know if I spelt that right). What other hero gets piss drunk, bounces off a sun flowers breasts, pisses on rocks, and all this other stuff in a game?
-
Kirby.
...
'nuff said.

1. its conkers.
2. yeah, bad fur day on n64 rocks! they remade it as conker: live and reloaded for ps2, xbox and gamecube. (but its still the same game)

I choose to bring the most awesome game hero ever:
-
Hmm...for the character development and deepness of his story and personality: Fei, Xenogears. He doensīt look cool at all, but he was really well planned, and has the deepes story I've ever seen. And he is powerful as hell. Not to mention that he get to drive those super cool robots!! :-)~~~~~~
EDIT: Actually, many of my "Bests" would go to Xenogears...maybe one of the best games ever. When it comes to storyline, only FFT compares to it...
-
Too bad they waited until the second disk to start speeding up the LONGEST GAME EVER EXCEPT FOR 7TH SAGA.
-
It was long indeed, though they made the story flux perfecly, it almost reaches the perfectness!
-

Amen to that, there definetely aren't many heroes like Conker. The whole Great Mighty Poo scenes were hilarious as well.

Commercial game favorite hero by far : Ryudo from Grandia II. He had a good personality that didn't change because the little singing priestess asked for help. through the entire game that I've played (up to Valmar's claw) his personality didn't change, he just made friends. He's, in my own opinion, the epitome of ruthless anti ~ hero heroes.
"Fan game" hero by far : Rhue from The Way. Rhue was awesome. end of story. he was very similar to Ryudo from Grandia, however, he didn't change in the least, and he STAYED alot darker. Sure, he made friends, but there was always that aching evil in the back of his mind, telling him to beat the crap out of the Aristotzi spy's son, or shove that guy off the waterfall (if you choose ofcourse :P).
Favorite villain overall : Sephiroth. Sephiroth is indeed very evil and maniacal, and let's face it, eleven years old or not, scary. I mean, in the Shinra building, you make it to the top and find a guy with a ten foot long sword shoved through his back. you keep going, and you find a snake with it's head impaled upon a big stick. A STICK. Sephiroth was insane down to his hairstyle, and that's why he's my number one villain.
-
Conker is indeed a great character. Second best, for sure.
Kirby's a close third.
-
Pff, Sephiroth. Kefka is by far the most sinister villain of all time. I mean come on, he's like the only one who actually succeeds in reshaping the face of the world. He's a friggin clown. The satisfaction he gains through his acts of naughtiness is beyond recognition. I don't think I've ever played a game that made me want to hate, as well as fear somebody that much. And that laugh... ohh that laugh. Kefka > all
-
Hero from Fable: The Lost Chapters.
Just the fact that he has no name is just so awesome. :P
-
All of your heroes bow to the mighty power of Jesus aka Goku.
you just can't get rid of this guy and if you do, no worries he'll be back.
He can destroy a whole planet in a instant and he doesn't even know this but he doesn't need oxygen to live.
He can stay under water and live in outer space for ages.
Also this guy lives over 130 and still looks the same age.

You disappoint me in so many ways. Kefka < all.

Solid Snake.
Samus.
Truly the greatest hero would be their offspring.

I agree

=D
Look at em, you just can't beat that.

-
Oh boy, Smokey, I'm sure that makes you happy.
I'm incredibly partial to most of the characters in Tales of Destiny, especially Leon. He's a kinda hero, I guess..... Finally, a plot twist that actually impacts me. All the others...... meh.
Since we're going into villains, I'd say the coolest was NOT Sephiroth. Anybody who invites Cloud Strife to be a minion has to be pretty lame. And anyone who Cloud could beat? Hoooo boy. FE's Ephidel was pretty cool, despite his lack of importance to the story. Something about black hair and gold eyes adds about 500 points to your awesome meter. Storyline wise? Kuja.
-
Yaoi. Ew.
Vyse from Skies of Arcadia was pretty cool. I mean, sky pirate, two cutlasses, hot moon chick, glass eyepatch. Win.
Abe the Mudokon from the Oddworld games. No weapons. No powers. No notable talents whatsoever. No intellegence to speak of. amd yet hes pure awesome. Win.
Dart Feld from Legend of Dragoon. Two years after FF7, yet totally different. Heavy armor, realistiv broadsword, with blond spikey hair. Plus I swear that if he had the Divine Dragoon armor he'd wipe the floor with Cloud, whether or not he had the damn Bahamut. Win.
Rayman from Rayman series. No arms or legs, throws his fist (or powerball in 2 and 3) and talks like a drunk guy. "Razzle frazzle num zoom zu." Win.
Ninja from I-Ninja. Killed his master, total smart ***, wicked sword. Midget as well just gets extra points.
Boss: "So, you're the foolish ninja that killed his master"
Ninja: "And you're the fatty gasbag thats been stinking up town with his beefy waffles"
Tetris I block pwns pretty hard too. Always there when I need it. Double win.

Final Fantasy:
Kefka (FF6): he is insane and at least accomplished his goal of world domination and held that position for a year. No other villain has done that.
Gilgamesh (FF5): He at least was cool because he was a recurring villain who became an ally.
Battle (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tl9Rdbdf0S8&feature=PlayList&p=5EA780B82AE1E07F&index=23)
Star Ocean:
Indalecio (SO2): Wanted to destroy the universe. Extremely cold hearted. (Really the persona of Dr. Lantis: Creator of the 10 Sages imbued into a new shell)
Shigeo (SO2): He speaks in all capital letters and we all know Caps Lock is cruise control for cool.
Cyril (SO2): He at least wanted to dominate the universe unlike Indalecio. Very cunning and Manipulative. Plus Wind of destruction is an awesome move.
Romancing SaGa:
Any of the 3 Dark Gods (RS1):
Death:
The mediator of Souls of Mardias
Best Entrance ever! (http://youtube.com/watch?v=gprETDHIJ1E)
Schirach: She sealed her powers away in exchange to live among humans, but sacrificed that which sealed her power to save the lives of your heroes
Battle (http://youtube.com/watch?v=XqocbTunajc)
Saruin: The main villain of the game Very PO'ed that he was defeated by a mortal and wants to lash out at the world.
Battle pt 1. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=nt5O3xHae_E)
Battle pt.2 (http://youtube.com/watch?v=LHhir3Q8OxU)
Ewei: An insane mage who plans to perfect his magic to become immortal using the Emerald of Evil.
Example (http://youtube.com/watch?v=XqocbTunajc)
-
Kratos from God of War. He's one pissed off dude, and his weapon kicks all kinds of ***.

I don't understand heroes who never talk, like in Chrono Trigger and (I think) Zelda. I guess it's good in stuff where the story is nonexistant, but not in a story-oriented game.
-
What are you talking about? Having a talking main character doesn't mean anything to the story, and there are several fantastic examples out there. Seriously, the main character can have a very active role in advancing a story, but think about it: who really tell the story? It's usually the rest of the cast.
-

Whoa, did you just say that Chrono Trigger didnīt have a story?
Mario games without Mario talking is the best for mankinds sanity... Thatīs why you get someone to talk for him or he will just try to show everyone what he means with his hands.
Nah, best hero of all time... Kirby perhaps, he can fly, use a bunch of different battle styles and his games are the best platformers according to me.
How about Dante from DMC? Yeah thatīs a good one, almost imvurnable and great speed and strength because of his demon blood, his comments and the lines fits him perfectly and that makes him a great guy (a lot better than Kratos if you ask me).
Best villain? Me (the Purple Mage) from one of my actually completed games Purple Moon, he is just to evil and has a damn screwed up ideal on how to make the world a better place...
Well thatīs how it goes when the creator sends you down to bring judgement upon the world but anyway...

Link doesn't count because it's a different Link each time.
You'd have to specify.
"OOT Link is the best video game hero ever."
"ALTTP Link is the best video game hero ever."
"TP Link is the best video game hero ever."
etc
-
It's annoying to have a non-talking main character tho.. cause it's like their missing their personality.
I think Vyse was pretty cool as a main character. He kept me entertained.
If there was a worst main character.. I'd say cloud. I just disliked him most of the time..
Again, my two favorite villains were kefka and kuja.
Worst, um.. melodia from baiten kaitos. Her laugh was so effing annoying, gawd..
-
I'm rather partial to my own characters, but since they don't count, I'll have to say... Bowser. In past years, he's been portrayed as incompetent, but you have to remember that not only is he physically powerful, he's also a skilled sorcerer. And no matter how many times Mario screws his plans over, he keeps trying to kidnap Peach. That takes determination.
-
0_o I'm not sure about who to go for right now. Carth from KOTOR. He was cool.
"I don't want to talk about it."
I can do his voice. But not on the internets.

You know why in most those games the main character never talked, right?
That person is suppose to be you. Stupid Idea... I know.. but thats the only logical reason why they would call the games role playing games.
Welcome to the worlds most one sided fights!

We all know who got own, I'll give you a hint.. Supaman got owned.

my favourite has to be:
Link
FROM:Zelda Ocarina Of Time And Majora's Mask
Why: Hes the Hero of hyrule. Through The majora's mask is a challenge,
that i found out he was an halian, an Orphan to the
Great Deku Tree,
PLUS That hes a perfect match for Zelda.
he could whip anyones ***

Yeah dude.
Didn't you read the rules? You have to be homosexual in order to be an active charas member.
That's why I frequently "rape" midnight.
-
Link sucks. Seriously.
Oh yeah, Geddoe from Suikoden 3 ruled. Not only he was well developed, but the character design looked amazing and he was a talking and social version of Squall. *high fives Geddoe*

-
Whoa, did you just say that Chrono Trigger didnīt have a story?
No, I was just saying for the most part I think it's best to have the hero talk. I know it's supposed to be a "role-play".... but you're pretending to be somebody else. Besides, most non-talking heroes get words put in their mouths. "Oh, you think we should do this, Mr. Hero? Yeah, sounds good." Errr..... no.
As for Goku, he only beat Superman cuz Superman is sucky. Let's see him beat Darkwing Duck, huh?
If Darkwing Duck were in a video game, he'd be the best videogame hero EVER.
-
lol.
Ms. Pac-man.
No, kidding. I'd have to say...
PHAYRE SHOULD NOT READ WHAT I'M ABOUT TO SAY!!!!!!!!!
I like Sora from KH.
If you notice, Sora does have character devolpment. Plus, I'm just a KH fan.

erm... he was in a video game.. it was for gameboy.. I traded it in for ninja boys.. boy do I regret that one ;.;... Darkwing duck was fun, but the levels got to hard for my 12 year old mind.. ;.;

****, for real?!!
*packs up, heads to Game Universe*
Must find Darkwing Duck!

yeah man, I think it was just darkwing duck adventures. I dun recall...
