Title: Abyss 2.0!
Post by: Roland_Deschain on June 12, 2007, 06:31:23 PM
So my computer finally died. No surprises there. However, this does not spell the end for Abyss! I've changed it a little, and now you play as an assassin named Alex (My name, not the maker of Charas) and his not-so-merry band of mercenaries. I've gotten rid of Dreth as a playable character, since he's just so much cooler as the villain, but Erkai and his evil-ness remain. And, before it gets said, Alexander is around 29-33(haven't decided yet) and does NOT rescue some girl who turns out to be one of the (insert number) princesses of whatever. The game's purpose is to eschew cliche and the norm. Oh, and you get to kill a god in a side quest. Now, come on, you can't say that's not pretty damn cool!
(Also: no screen shots yet, the game's kinda buggy as of now.)

Edit 1: Okay, uh, also, I need to know what the command for making text auto scroll, and I'd like suggestions and links for a stealth-based CBS, using the DBS, if possible.

Sounds cool up to now.

By the way, the command for making text automatically scroll is ^

EDIT: Erm, crud, crud, it doesn't show up. It's a backslash after the ^; you know the one, it's a / only backwards.

Anyway, it sounds good, the fact you're trying to get rid of cliches makes it sound even better.

Any more details you can give out? Like an introduction to the story, or a little bio on those characters.

Okay, some changes have been made.
Characters

Alex: The hero of the game. Alex is an assassin working for the Unseen, but throughout the game, missions will be given to you by all three major factions.
Race: Human
Age: 39
Class: Assassin
Level: 3
Alignment: Neutral

Unseen

Archel: A vampyre and assassin for the Unseen. His loyalties are never difficult to place as he is fanatically devoted to the Unseen.
Race: Aven Vampyre
Age: Unknown
Class: Aven Assailant
Level: 4
Alignment: Evil

Sarah: Alex's friend since childhood. The two had a close relationship until Alex joined the Unseen. She is a healer and innkeeper.
Age: 36
Class: Healer
Level: 2
Alignment: Good

Rea: A young fighter who wants to be an assassin. She is Archel's sister.
Age: 29
Class: Fighter
Level: 2
Alignment: Good

Erkai: Guildmaster. He is one of the three possible final bosses.
Race: Human Vampyre
Alignment: Evil

Empire

Aruel: The Emperor. He is one of the three possible final bosses.
Race: Elf
Alignment: Evil

Azathoth: The first horseman, Pestilence. He is one of the three possible final bosses.
Race: Dereloth
Alignment: Evil

Malakhath: The second horseman, War.
Race: Human
Alignment: Good

Arcanis: The third horseman, Famine.
Race: Dereloth
Alignment: Neutral

????: The fourth horseman, Death. (can't give you a name, that'd be spoilers)
Race: ????
Alignment: ????

Rebellion

Dreth: Leader of the Rebellion.
Race: Ilthin
Alignment: Evil

Ungolim: Dreth's second in command.
Race: Human
Alignment: Good

Races

The races are human, dereloth, aven, ilthin, elf, goblin, mystik, and vampyre. The ones that need explaining are dereloth, mystik, ilthin and aven.
Dereloth are humanoid demons. They take whatever form they wish. Not all are evil, but many people fear them, and so they are persecuted.
Mystik are like magic gnomes. That's about all.
Ilthin are, in a sense, muscular Dark Elves. They have gray skin, a natural skill with bows, and are stronger than most humans.
Aven are basically people with wings. The wings' color shows the true color of the person's soul. (Red or black: essentially evil. Blue or white: good.)

EDIT 1: ABS!!!!!!!! I named the Game Abs in RM2k3. Isn't that brilliant? Well, here's the alternate title screen inspired by Dr pepper.

Oh, and that's not Porn, is it? The picture's a DUDE it was the first image in a google images search for Abs.

Thanks. Okay, new screens! And the above post has been edited again!

A little paragraph from the new intro that sums up the plot.

The new Vahn. I changed his name too, for reasons that will be revealed later.

Rebel Hill, the first location in the game. It's a pretty bland, ho-hum Dark Forest map with a fog effect. Move along.

A battle. Sorry I had to post the image with one of the lamest in game enemies, but I'm working on making elves and bandits less irritating to fight.

It's not lying. The Hiveminds are ridiculously tough for a lower level character. At about 9-15 they're killable and at around 20 they're as easy as bats. Oh, and one side quest can have you kill them all in one fell swoop!

The into town, Alex's home. It's pretty run of the mill except for all the people. WAAYYY too many of 'em. Oh, and did you notice the colored names? Blue is for no faction, green is empire, red is rebellion, and orange is Unseen.
Demo coming soon, I'm working on the first level!

And, another screen! This one is a battle between Alex and the Hiveminds. As you can see, Alex is clearly not winning.

It's really short, but you'll get the basics pretty
quickly. Comments and such would be appreciated!
But first, um... How do I post a demo?

Either winzip/winrar your project folder or use the create gamedisk command, but I think one of those options has a downside, can't remember what it was though.

After that, just upload your file to any file uploading site. Try  ZUpload (http://www.zupload.com/) . AFter that post the link that site gives you here.

Ah! I'm intensely excited!
Try snooping around and seeing where others have posted their stuff. I did a quick google search, found a few okay-sounding places:
http://www.streamload.com

http://www.freewebspace.net

http://www.sharebigfile.com

http://www.freefile.com

Good job, and post that demo soon!
Title: DEMOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: Roland_Deschain on June 22, 2007, 02:42:25 AM
For realz this time! (http://z02.zupload.com/download.php?file=getfile&filepath=34626 )
EDIT: Okay, a few errors:
*The Alex Battle sprite is weird. At the time of Demo making, I hadn't fixed it yet.
*The Rebellion is called the Kingdom in the Intro. I dunno how that happened, but it did.
* The Hiveminds do not appear in the grass they are supposed to be in in the upper half of Darkovia.
*The face set for Darius MAY or MAY NOT change sporadically during the demo. I can't remember if I changed it at certain ares.
*Text might go off the screen during cutscenes. If it does, I apologize.
*Some enemies, like bats and wood elves, are pretty easy to fight. I'm trying to make the elves harder without being as irritating as they were before, but so far it seems impossible. Bats will probably stay ridiculously easy.
*Centipedes should not be alone, they should be in groups with other monsters. They are too weak to work alone.
*No, the CBS is not done yet, and probably won't be introduced until after the point in the game where the demo ends. There's currently no use for the "stealth" skill I'm giving Alex.

The game is in progress, so there will probably be a few others. If you find them, let me know.

uuuhhh... I got exited there for a minute...
why do I get the feeling that Setup.rar isnīt your game?

...

OH. Thats why...

Uhm... Well, the only advice I can give you is, next time, use savefile.com - its the best site, because once you sign up, you upload your files, and they stay there.... FOREVAH!!! So sign up... And this time post your actual game XD

Okay, I fixed it. The other one was the wrong file, many apologies. It's still in .rar format, though. If you want the folder, I'll post that too.

SORRY!!!!!

EDIT: It's not on savefile because that site was saying some crap about an "invalid tech code" or whatever.

No demo, at least not yet. A few problems have come to my attention, namely that the demo I have been attempting to post is over two months old, from when the game was buggy as hell and there was no direction to anything. Since then, I have improved the game and the vagueness of the directions. My sincerest apologies to anyone who played that mess. The real, completed demo will be up some time next month. I'm REALLY sorry, guys. This demo has taken up most of my time and I'm taking a break from making Abyss for a week or two.
However, I can assure you that the new demo contains much, much more than the other mess did. I have added three cutscenes, the first boss, the first side quest, the Stealth System has been abandoned for something I hope you guys like, and the forest maps have undergone a near-complete overhaul. These are the changes made so far, and others are in the works. Please forgive me if it seems like I'm stalling for time, but this game is ridiculously hard to make work right.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaay for demos you thought were done which then reveal themselves to be hot steaming piles of poo! Yaaaaaaaaaay!
