This looks really good, tad unfortunate that it's still under development...

Looks quite interesting. Seems to be pretty useful and fun. I'm a little skeptical about the point-and-click style of it, it might reduce the need to explore and be ingenious making for bad games, but it's certainly promising.

However, it won't mean the end of RPG Maker. I guarantee it.

Yeah, I will definitely try it out when it's ready, though I do feel the same about the whole point & click. For some reason, it sounds and looks kind of kiddy.

But then, that's my opinion.

This is a borderline advertising thread, but I might let it slide if you're all so willing to discuss how this won't be the end of RPG Maker.
Title:
Post by: KiyoshiLancer on June 22, 2007, 11:55:10 PM
Ofcourse, it definitely wont be the end of RPG Maker.
I still have so much to learn, I already thought it didn't quite compare with RM2k ;)

Long live RPG Maker!

It doesn't loo as straightforwardly geared towards RPGs, more towards platformers. Which is cool. I like platformers as much as the next gamer.
Title:
Post by: KiyoshiLancer on June 23, 2007, 12:07:05 AM
I guess it's considerable, seeming it's also for other genre of games.
But I love RPG's, so I wont be AS interested as I am with RPG maker.
Athough it does say that RPG's are optional to make.

We'll just have to wait and see what it's like.
But, i'm pretty sure that RPG maker will still be better :D

I'm not impressed.

Not bad. Might use it in the future... I'm almost certain this won't mark the end to RM yet. RMXP 'Improved' on the methods of its predecessor, yet people still use RM2k3.

Shame there's no 'Final Fight' like options for the maker yet..

Assuming its anything like the system for RPGmaker (Interface, I mean) I'm probably scrapping two or so of my projects on RPGmaker and swapping to this, mainly because it was always my dream to make atleast one noncommercial RPG (Both turn based and action game "rpg"), platformer and shoot'em'up. ;D

We already have something out like this.

It's called get off your ass and learn to use Game Maker (http://www.yoyogames.com/gamemaker/)

The system's just using flashy graphics. I bet it's no different from game Maker.

Post by: Moosetroop11 on June 23, 2007, 01:26:39 PM
Gamemaker never seems to do what you want it to. This maker could feasibly challenge it if it's good enough... But rpgmaker is just too good at making rpgs. No matter how easy this thing is to use, it'll still be easier to make basic rpgs in rpgmaker.

It seems to have incorporated into it's engine a way to make tactical Battle Systems.
To me, Thats a big deal. o.o

But I mean, Surely Both can co-exists.

I just tried installing the newest version of Game Maker, and it keeps popping up with an error message whenever I try to run it.

And I have used past versions of the maker as well.

Cool, I personally love platforms equally to RPGs. Super Metroid FTW.

What error?

Dude, I just noticed... with this game making engine, it seems it comes with a SMB pack on it (and from what I understood is like the real game) I could totally keep the game as original but edit just a little to change the Mario sprite's to Grandys, and then bowser to Lord Raffes or something, and instead of lauching fireballs he could shoot missiles lol.

Softwrap file error3 - Error: Inconsistent files.

That's the error I get from running GM7.

I say we give this a chance and wait.  This looks good, but from what I see doesn't include the RPGmaker version of RPGs, so this seems to be more of the other genre game maker.

WTF are you talking about game maker sucks. You also have to pay for game maker while this your probably don't have to pay anything to use it.

Btw, its not gonna be the end of RPG maker. Rpg Maker is just too well known for it to end.

Sphere is pretty bad too. I couldn't figure out how to do much of anything in that.

RM2k3
RMXP
RPG Minerva
Sphere
Gamemaker
RPG Toolkit

Even if some of these aren't completely finished, they all have established communities. It looks nice, but it won't exactly take the market.

Ended up finding this.

Title: The OP is an impersonator.
Post by: Jon914 on June 24, 2007, 05:46:06 AM
Hello. I am the Founder / Project Manager for Stencyl. While I am thrilled to see an enthusiastic user post in our name, the post above was not made by anybody affiliated with us, and we do not endorse such practices.

If anything, I am trying to reduce the hype, so we can keep the community under control. It has never been our policy to spam advertise sites. We simply don't need it since the users have done all the work for us without our bidding. Plus it ticks people like the above off. I hope that those people see this reply and reconsider because such advertisements hurt our image even though we did not make them.

In other news, just earlier today, somebody impersonated me and made a "fake" announcement on other sites, so I'm a bit irked to see another instance of this.

If you are aware of other spam-ads, please bring them to my attention.

I just want to clear this up, and if this continues, we will have to take measures to curb it.

- Jon

His impersonator-sense was tingling.

Either that, or this person is not affiliated in any way, but might be an aquaintance of some sort.

I think Chuck Norris would like to have a few words with you. A few short words.

What planet are you from? Everything costs something. Even the use of public restrooms. Though you may not know it, every time you use one, despite the law, someone is watching you go to make sure you're not writing stuff on the walls, costing you some privacy.[/OMGPARANOIA]

Point is, everything that is at least decent will demand money. Don't expect it to be free. Greed runs the world now and the drive for money is the fuel.

Hello people. I'm the actual founder and creator of this program. You all know my wonderful coding abilities, and now I've put them to the ultimate use.

These other people are fakes trying to take credit for my work. I don't mind them promoting it, but I do deserve credit for the hours of work I've slaved over this creation.

An ad thread is an ad thread, and I'm more of a dick than Razor. :P

PS: RPG Toolkit is better than any of these makers, don't even try to beat it. :D

Site referrals from my webmaster pointed me here very quickly. It's the only way we can monitor things like this.

As I said in my PM to you, this guy also spammed other sites (like Gamedev.net), and thanks to those other sites providing IP addresses, we figured out that it was the same guy, so I am assuming that this is the same guy too.

I am VERY ticked at this guy not just because he's elicited a bad response to our project, but he's wasted my precious time correcting this, time that should have gone towards development.

How can I authenticate myself? Well, you can go by my e-mail address for my account. Nobody else in the world can fake it thanks to e-mail verification. I can also provide the IP address in question to verify that it is the same guy.

Meiscool: That's not cool, really. :P

I'm sure there isn't a single person here that really finds themselves caring if you are or arn't the real maker, so for the sake of stopping displeasure; you are the real thing and you don't need proof of such.

Just ignore Meiscool and you'll be alright.

Anyway, it seems you've sorted out the problem at your end as well, at least according to that thread. So, crisis over.
