What shows are you people doing?
This is ours.
Music of the Day
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDx5HsqVHak
(the last song after they say the marching band name isn't part of the show---and this is not our marching band either. Just the show we are preforming.)
It is so hard! Its made 75% of fast 8th and 16th notes. ugh. Why did I join as a woodwind and not a pit person? Oh well. I can do the 8th note runs slowly right now....
What are your shows?
-
The music is great!
Although your Color Guard seems to be off the majority of the time.
Your form is very nice, as with keeping it.
El Paso, eh? Not that far from here >_>
Where's the most out-of-town contest you've been in?
I'd post videos of us (marching season), but there are none online. Although there will be this year >)
-
I'm in a lazy marching band. We don't do competitions. We just do cool music and easy as hell but cool looking formations. Drumline \m/
-
Sorry about the confusion. Its not us. Thats just the show.
Heh, our colorguard's much better. We didn't have any seniors last year, so our colorguard just got quite a bit bigger.
Our band got smaller though. We got a new director so some people quit. *stares at old clarinet section leader*
Sorry. I just used the video to show the uh, show.
We are the DuBois Area High School Marching Band.
DAHSMB....i think I'll stick with saying the DuBois Marching Band...
Our band camp is early this year. It starts the last monday of July. Usually we have it later...
Farthest we went was Florida (Disney and Universal trip weeeeee!). And we are in Pennsylvania. So, 22 hours. On bus. Not a school bus though. We hate taking them 2 hours to the Atlantic Coastal Championships. (heh, we only made 23 out of 25, but we went in 25th. And that comp, most go down in ranking, we were happy.)
-
I don't know when our Band Camp starts, but I think it's on the 23rd (we get back to school Aug. 8 :P)
-
wow. we go back september 1-ish.
Our first compition is about the first or second week we get back to school.
-
My school's marching band was pretty awful. We made up for it with about 17 different jazz bands, all ruled by geeks. One of my geek friends conned the director into letting them do a show with all anime music. ^^ It was great.
I loves marching bands.
-
lol.
Every single person in our high school has at least one friend in the band. and our band and colorguard only has around 52 people.
-
o_O
Wow. Small band.
We have about 100 in ours
-
I enjoyed it.
Band sounds cool, but being able to read music seems to be a requirement. :p
The band at my school wins a lot of awards, but nobody seems to believe them. I had my Algebra class on the floor above them. I used to tap along with the drumline especially, and a lot of the time they were off-beat... It made the class fun.

We used to be a Group 4 (double what we are now), but people stopped joining band. Of course, the group we are in is a bit more competitive than Group 4 bands...
-
So, what are your shows?
Our show is a bit different than I vid I posted. And the woodwinds have a wicked run that's at 180 ans its all 16th notes. O_o. I'll post a midi of what it sounds like, in the video band its not loud enough to hear it clearly >_>.
It isn't exact note wise becuase I don't have the music right in front of me, but this is the right tempo. and the right note length. (Yeah... I can play most of it, but my clarinet doesn't want to let the sounds out. >.> )
-
I never played in a marching band. I played in a concert band (sax for one year, then bass for 2) and the school's jazz band (bass for all 3 years it existed when I was at school)
Personally, I love playing in bands. I'm working on arranging my own band right now, finally got my friend who plays bass to jam with us, and after jamming my tunes, he decided to join, which was awesome :D So, my hopes are to get some shows soon...

I don't even have 100 people in my school. So yeah, we don't have a band.
-
I can't help but to think about those things the military has, marching bands...
But I guess that you are talking about a band in your school? If so then really, we used to have one but no one wants to play classic music, it's just rock and punk rock really...
-
Prpl_mage, I posted a link to a video of what a marching show looks like in my first post if you want to know what it is.
Also, you can go to this wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marching_Band
Many High School Marching Bands in my area play arrangements of soundtracks from hit movies (Harry Potter, King Kong, The Incredibles, and some others)
-
Oh... Kinda what I thought. And you guys, are a part of those bands?
I donno, no one would ever want to join one of those back in Sweden I bet... Not trying to insult the entire thing or so, just that no one would feel forced or up to the thing.
We're not that patriotic or something, just a land of free thoughts really. We take the easy way around.
-
Our show is "The Machines" From GPG Music Publications.
It kicks *** :D
You can listen to it at gpgmusic.com
BTW, what do your uniforms look like?
My avatar is a small example. (SAXES!)
We wear a cowboy hat with a fold on the right along with a plume.
We also have a baldric w/ silver sequins on the inside.
We use Drillmasters for our shoes.
And the gauntlets/gloves combo, of course ^__^
-
We used Drill Masters for the past few years, but, we have a new director this season, so we have different shoes this year.
I'll find a picture of us...
Found one of us in Florida.
I'm a clarinet player in Marching Band, but for Concert Band I play Oboe.
Listening to the show. Its sounds really cool. Wow... it just got past the first hit. The melodic lines in this are amazing. This is much cooler sounding than our show.
-
Ugh. Our band had its worst practice ever on Thursday. We got to a point in the second movement where its played as swing. Swing. And... we fell apart. And of course, It features the Sax's Flutes, and Clarinets quite a bit in that part. Ugh. How you people ever had practices so bad that your teacher kind of went "omg. What the hell are we going to do..." (not exactly, but had that kind of idea.)?
-
Lol, we are doing a blues brothers show, so its easy and fun. :)

Pretty close >_>
We start our drill tomorrow.
Our drill creator is already working on a show for next year (AFL knows for who ;))
-
We only have 3 Clarinets* and 4 Saxes in our Band, we call ourselves the Saxinet section (I came up with it! w00t!)
* (Yet we are the loudest ones in the Winds [includes the 7 flutes, 10 trumpets, 7 Saxinets, 2 tubas, tenor sax, 2 trombones, and 2 baritones])
Ha. I laugh at them.
ALSO: Saw this on Myspace:
Just want to let everyone know that this subject frustrated me for years until I finally realized that Marching Band isn't a sport for a reason. Because it is WAY beyond sports. ...ITS LIFE!
Really hate how people consider people in the band to be geeks! Being in marching band is harder than any one would imagine. We aren't just walking around the field playing an instrument! We practice for hours in 90+ degree heat, practice our music until our lips are numb, and march SO MUCH that it isn't even funny! PEOPLE IN THE BAND ARE ATHLETES...It requires endurance....lots of it. You have to be dedicated to deal with practicing like crazy, standing in the sun FOREVER, and getting yelled at by your band director. When we go to a competition it isn't just so we can go out on the field, play some songs, get off the field and watch the other bands! We go to competitions to beat the crap outta other bands. THAT'S WHY WE PRACTICE SO MUCH! We work just as hard (Some more so) as the football team and cheerleaders. So next time you go to a football game, instead of just getting up at halftime to get something from the consession stand, stay and watch the bands. And clap. And cheer. Think of everything we do to make the show perfect.
>>>Oh, I would like to add something here, it isn't just the heat we have to deal with, sometimes we even march in ice and snow!<<<(signed: JOHN BARTON)
>>>Blizzard performances ROCK! (Joe Boboige)<<<
IF YOU ARE/WERE IN A MARCHING BAND, PUT YOUR NAME AND THE INSTRUMENT YOU PLAY AT THE BOTTOM. REPOST WITH THE SUBJECT "READ IF YOU KNOW ANYONE IN A MARCHING BAND".

So, our first competition is this weekend. We have made it to 11 pages in our Finale. Our Entire Drill has 72 sets, we are at like 65.
Our Finale is tough. Its at 180 towards the end, and the woodwinds have another 16th nore run. Only... for me its:

and then it goes into a melody... Damn trumpets... you can't hear the melody(Clarinets/Flutes/Saxes) over them. Gr....
We worked really hard the past few weeks to get ready for this upcoming competition. How are your Marching Bands doing?
-
We finished the first movement and the transition sets (42 not including subsets) on Monday and worked on our field entry Tuesday. Tomorrow we start on the second movement.
This is going to be the greatest show ever! Our first competition is at the end of October (20th)
We're taking the first movement 8 clicks under tempo, but the third movement will be at tempo (180). Second movement is only around 12 sets long. Tempo's only 100 BPM. It'll be the brasses time to rest (Lord knows they'll need it, I'm out of breath halfway through the 1st movement @_@).
I've signed that list.
Twice.
In a row.
XD
I'm not on that one, though :)
-
Yeah! I am in drum line, currently i play bass four, but i am working up to the snare! My band plays Disney music. Blah, i hate Disney.
-
Our First Compition was on Saturday.
...We got a 71.5 or something.
And the Band we are trying to beat got... 78.5 or somemat. Yeah....
We placed second in the Comp. anyway. That band is cuirrently Second in all of "Tournament of Bands" in the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and such.
We were all like... Sh*t.
In drill, we are at Set 65. In the Finale. I think 65. But the entire show is like 72 or something like that.
-
We got to our first competition last Saturday!
We had a completely new judging system which only made it harder :P
We got 5th place overall which wasn't that bad. We could have done better, but it was still pretty good. All the scores were really tight, the winning band was only 8 points ahead of us. We have Showcase (the toughest in LA) next weekend in Lafayette. It'll be tough.
I hope to get a video up of us sometime soon!
We have around 100 charts if you include the subests (86 w/o them)
-
Holy crap!
Sorry for the double post, but I found a video of us from our Parkway contest! Low quality, but the sound is pretty good :)
Our 2007 Show! (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6478795712201310670&q=Haughton+High&total=19&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=2)
If I can get a better vid this weekend I will
-
Well, we have placed 3rd in our last few competitions. The other band that is our big "rivals" even though we are kinda friends, had a 10 point lead over everyone that competed last week. O_O
In TOB, we are 42, we have a score of 78.55. And the other band that we compete against that got second at our last comp. has a 79.9 and they are 32. So things are really tight this season. Our last competition is chapters next week.
There is a video of us from our first competition somewhere, but we are much better now.
Hm... there is a more recent video, but you have to download it I think.
Let me find it...
Here we go!

This is from October 6th I think.
Oh, what do you thiknk of my new avatar? I would've tried a clarinet but.... yeah, as you can see, I did better than normal with the beaver.
-
Just got back from LA Showcase last night (the most prestigious marching contest in Louisiana) and got a whole lot more than expected.
We are the ninth best band in Louisiana! We haven't been invited in the past 15 years, either!
We were best in class band in Class AA and Small Class, as well as percussion.
Auxiliary - 2
Percussion - 2
Drum Major - 2
Band - 1
We now have an invite next year, and we'll just keep climbing!
-
We are 42nd Group 2 Bands (1 smallest 4 biggest), and made it for ACC's Invitational (which is like really early in the morning, we have to leave at 12:30 AM in the morning to get there and preform at 8:24)
Our show this year is hard, and we are playing it well, its just that the judges are only calling it "Moderately difficult". Which angered us.
But what can you do?
-
My last competition was last sat. We got a score of 81.5 (Last place _sweat_ ) or something close to that. We are a group 4 band, some of the bands were like group 6 or something, they were huge.
